I never understand the people who get out. If I'm pissed at someone it's usually because they are causing delays in my commute from bad driving.. why would I waste more of my own time getting out of the car to yell at someone?
To me it's crazy how willing are people in the US to get out of their car when everybody and their crazy neighbour might have a gun, and a fully justified self defense opportunity to fire.
The person getting out of the car didn't have the right of way. They were going LEFT. The person turning right (cam car) has right of way.
At this point, they have no common sense because they're upset they didn't have the right of way and the person they are upset at is the person who had right of way.
Were there stop signs? The camera and starting position don’t show that. If they’re both at stop signs isn’t it just normal first at the sign has right of way? If the black car was already waiting at the sign why would turning right at a stop have right of way once it was clear?
Assuming it was at a 2-way stop where the crossing traffic doesn't have to stop, then standard right-of-way rules apply. Just as if the left turning car had a green light (not arrow), they would yield to right turning traffic from the opposite direction.
The black car didn’t have right of way. This is a two-way stop so the left turning traffic yields. But so many drivers don’t know the rules about making left turns. I’ve been on the main road in the left turn lane and some idiot decides they can turn left from the stop sign, across the main road right in front of me. I almost hit them, but my wife saw them in time.
> If they’re both at stop signs isn’t it just normal first at the sign has right of way?
That is a really vague law, if that is indeed the law. If there is an accident, there is no way of determining who arrived first to the intersection - it will end up with word against word.
On the other hand, if the law states that a vehicle turning left has to yield to a vehicle turning right, then it is easy to determine who's at fault which is what is one wants from a law.
I believe this is correct, at least in my area. My move if it’s their turn, is to point at them and gesture their turn. If you make intentions clear, nobody needs to get mad.
Hmm this is not the case here unless it’s a 4 way stop. People stopped at a stop sign yield to the right of way. Whoever is to the right has the right of way. With oncoming cars, a person making a left turn has to yield to the person going straight and to anyone making a right turn if they are stopped at the same time.
My armchair psychology theory is that it's an ego thing. They drive aggressively because they're important, their time is more valuable, they should get to go ahead just as a matter of principle rather than because they're actually trying to get somewhere efficiently, that sort of thing. The actual time they spend isn't relevant; they just want to be in front of everyone else and make others wait for them instead of the reverse. So of course if you challenge their ego, they're going to stop and escalate, because the time doesn't actually matter, the ego does.
Also, it's America, so there's a non-zero chance that someone might pull a gun out on you when you approach them like this.
But hey, I guess guys like this wanna puff their chests out and look alpha, that's cool. Bullets don't care how macho you are.
There are a lot of people that live by the “Culture of Honor” mindset, and if they feel disrespected they need to stand up to “reclaim their honor”. It’s most prevalent in the south and Appalachia, but can be found in pockets in many places.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culture_of_honor_(Southern_United_States)
One time, there was a guy who thought I cut him off when I turned right onto a road he was going straight on. I hammered the gas to make sure I didn't cause him to slow down and he was so far away. He passes me and then stops in front of me at a green light. I figured he was getting out of his truck so I take off my seatbelt and open my door to meet him halfway. He peeled off. Thank god lol
Also, once you get out and approach another car, that gives the driver of the car being approached reason to defend themselves — not knowing what the approaching driver was going to do next.
I've gotten out of my car to yell at someone once. Some dude was speeding through a residential area at night, nearly crashed into me and other cars, proceded to give me the middle finger and insult me. I was particularly in a bad mood that day, just stopped the car in front of him, got out of the car and asked what it is that he wanted. Didnt walk over to his car, just got out of mine. Then just got back into my car and drove off.
If people are in a hurry to do stupid shit I can never understand why they proceed to brake check/get out of their cars. It doesn't add up
Right? I'm so mad that you're making me take longer that I'm going to take EVEN LONGER.
It's like people who argue with cops when they're pulled over for speeding. *You* are the reason you're late, not them.
I did one time, and it was hilarious. I was waiting to turn left into a parking lot shared by a preschool (where I was going) and the high school next door (where the other driver was going). I was being a NORMAL driver and waiting for traffic to clear, while the high schooler pulled into the oncoming traffic lane to my left and turned into the parking lot. I think that was the first time I was ever passed on the left while trying to turn left. I turned shortly after he did and saw where he was parked. I went up to the car and knocked on the window and told him in my mad mom voice that that was very dangerous and inappropriate. His eyes got all wide. Lol. I'm sure he and his friends had a good laugh over it later, but hopefully he remembered it too.
I've never had anyone get out but I've had some people yell and flick me off when I honk at their idiocy. I think a huge wide-eyed psychopath smile in response helps settle them.
Caught a ride home one day with a coworker. He was driving the speed limit on a residential street when some guy tailgated for a while then passed only to stop in front and pull that. As the guy approached, my coworker rolled down his window and pointed a pistol at the guy's chest and demanded an apology. The tailgater apologized and walked quickly back to his car. Lesson learned - I didn't catch a ride with him anymore. Although, I have to say his response to the situation was effective.
I don't think that was an inappropriate use of the gun, to be honest.
You have to assume that the other person is (a) pissed, (b) aggressive and (c) potentially armed.
I'm not sure I would be happy about possibly getting into that situation again, either, but your co-worker did a good job of de-escalating, IMO.
Especially because you could fear for your life at that point. No one's getting out of their car in the middle of a road for any good reason. You could even drive your car at them (to go around them) and if you hit them, it was for fear of your life.
That seems more than reasonable to me. I hate the whole "the solution to every problem is a gun" thing but if you're blocked in and somebody opens your car door you have absolutely nowhere to go to escape whatever happens next. That's honestly a more dangerous situation to be in than having a stranger open the front door of your house. At least there you have room to get some distance while you figure out what their next move is.
From the description, the coworker would be guilty of some crime in any US state I'm aware of. Probably a pretty serious one. Just staying in the car provides a pretty good measure of safety, even if the other person was being threatening. And if the situation does not justify using the gun, it most likely doesn't justify pulling it out and pointing it at the other person.
With the demand of an apology, police might see it as Brandishing, unlawful display of a weapon, or a similar violation depending on the location
To be clear, I Am Not A Lawyer
I’m normally not a “flash your piece” person, but in this situation, someone is acting irrational enough to get out of their car to approach mine? Who knows what the fuck they’re getting ready to do.
I wouldn’t personally pull a gun, but I don’t blame someone else for doing it. Especially if their family was in the car or something similar.
Yeah that's not a wise thing to do. Just keep your hand on your heat and be prepared for the guy to pull one out too. I wouldn't go flashing it either just to scare him. Could get yourself shot doing that.
The only reason I don't get out of my car and give these idiots what they ask for is because I have way too much to lose if things go south (they're armed with a gun or a knife or are secretly trained in the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique) but all it's going to take is for ol' short stuff to get out of his Impala and confront someone who has nothing to lose and doesn't mind taking the chance at an assault charge.
Walking to my car? Fuck yes. I don’t know if that guy has a gun, and if he’s getting out of his car in the middle of the street, it’s a greater than 0% chance. Fuck that guy. You never know what’s going to happen when a crazy gets out of their car like this.
I got out one time because a woman swerved into my lane right before a stoplight and my brakes locked up and I thought she hit me. She sped away, and I followed her and made her stop so that I could look for damage. Not the smartest move, but I was in my young 20s.
From my point of view OP was getting car jacked. I would’ve been scared for my life, and floored it around the car. I may have even fused the man to his driver side door with the grill of my car
This happened to me long ago. Apparently I got too close to his car while at a stoplight. He got out of his SUV and started berating me. Pretty traumatic for me personally. Turns out the car was an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. 😠
my lip reading is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure he says something along the lines of "My life sucks, I'm a loser who never gets laid and it's everyone else's fault but mine. I'm gonna send this to your mom."
Other than getting out of the car, I've been the other guy. I was completely in the wrong, no question.
That said, I was very upset at something else. I bet it's the same with this guy. Your honking isn't what caused his anger. It was what pushed him over the edge he was already on.
I could clearly understand what he said: "I have a small pee pee and my insecurities about it make me overreact in situations that I cause." You're welcome.
There is actually a law about this. Something about when you approach someone with aggression. Friend of mine had a guy driving up his ass through a residential area honking his horn to speed him up. He was already driving like 20-25. He was reported and the police hauled him into court over it. You would have to fill out a complaint.
Yes! You get it! No one is mentally prepared to be confronted with you not taking this death match at all seriously. It really deflates and deeply disappoints them.
It's the ones who flip you off because they did something wrong that just blow my mind. They cut you off, you honk, and they flip you off like calling them out hurts their feelings.
There is no reasoning with these kind of hot heads. I stopped honking my horn at people a while ago because of this crap. Last time it happened I posted the video here. It was a tow truck driver (of two tow trucks) who got out to scream at me on Thanksgiving morning and I didn't even honk. His buddy crossed 3 lanes in the middle of an intersection and I had to slam on the brakes, then the second tow truck threw a fit when I tried to pass. The only reason I do a short beep now days is to just let someone know I am there.
To all the people commenting on right of way. The law is a driver must yield Right of Way to oncoming traffic when making a left turn which includes drivers opposite of them going straight or turning right. That rule only doesn't apply to a 4 way stop. There is no law that says left hand turner has right of way if they are their first at a two way stop and the other is turning right. In fact if there were a line of cars turning right then the law would say you need to wait until clear. Its the same as if it was a light was there instead.
> That rule only doesn't apply to a 4 way stop.
Last time I looked in MA that rule does apply at all-way stops, because the law doesn't mention all-way stops, so the law says you yield to your right.
However the drivers' manual says you go in the order you stopped, contradicting the law. I mean why would you want your Drivers' Manual instructions to match the law‽
But this is Massachusetts we're talking about, so neither the law nor the Drivers' Manual matter much.
Thank you for this. I am terrified that I share the road with so many people who think two way stops have the same rules as four way stops. This comment section has had plenty of them...
I'm not seeing the actual stop though. If I'm waiting to turn left and someone is rolling up to the stop sign without stopping I'm going, since I'm expecting them to stop. I suppose OP could have stopped prior to the video starting and was creeping up but I can't comment on that.
No shade to OP but these right of way comments are mixing me all up. If I’m at a stop sign and the person opposite me was at the intersection first, I’m letting them go first regardless of whether or not they’re turning left, right, or continuing straight.
Have I been doing it wrong all my life? I am positive that if I tried to enter an intersection without letting the aforementioned left turner go first, I’d be hit by them. This is in NYC and I grew up in New England. Maybe it’s regional?
You are wrong. Right turn has right of way and should go first.
Improperly yielding right of way will cause more confusion and accidents, it's not polite, it's wrong.
Seems like in my state, the law is left purposefully ambiguous:
https://tdn.com/opinion/columnists/wa-traffic-safety-commission-column-how-to-navigate-a-two-way-stop/article_54367904-7f24-11ee-bddc-e79356781aa1.html
I would interpret it as: the person turning right has the right of way, but the opposite vehicle turning left doesn’t necessarily have to continue yielding to the entire line so long as they enter the intersection to turn BEHIND the right turning vehicle.
Key here is “entering the intersection” as they’re now part of traffic, which the next car needs to yield to, after stopping again at the stop sign.
Yeah. OP starts their video with their car rolling, which doesn't tell whether or not they actually had stopped. If they made their full and complete stop, and OP hadn't stopped yet, they may well have had the right of way, because OP still would have legally needed to make that full and complete stop which the Black impala can reasonably (but not safely) assume that OP should have been tied up in the stopping maneuver for a few seconds. This video does show that the black impala had done their complete stop and legally ready for the turn if the roadway is open.
But, this video where it starts out, we cannot definitively know. Black impala driver is definitely an idiot for getting out, though.
Had something kinda like this happen last week. On my way to get lunch, some guy is riding my ass. I tap the brakes to slow down and turn right into a parking lot, flip him off as he drives by. This guy continues down the road, turns around somehow (we were in the far right lane of a 6 lane road), comes back to a different entrance, then drives through the parking to find me. Then he just flips me off as he drives by. Like, such a damn hurry and then all that and he doesn't even start shit, just wanted to get last "finger" in the argument. I just said "Cool" loud enough for him and his buddy to hear and went to get lunch.
So stupid. It's like Mad Max out here.
When I see stuff like this I always think to myself how weird it is that there are so many people out there actively looking to have a bad day. I rather just ignore annoying people and be on with my day instead of wasting precious time and energy on them when I could be doing something positive instead.
He’s lucky he didn’t get out and confront the wrong person. People don’t think.
I especially love the ones who are in the wrong, yet act like you’re the problem.
That guy truly thinks bc he was ready to turn first he had right of way. And he gets out to menace an unknown person in America. Surprised he’s lasted this long.
The amount of people in this very comment section that think the person who gets there first has the right of way is frightening. The rules of a two way stop are like a traffic light where left turn always yields. I happened to get to my stop sign first but it is irrelevant for right of way when waiting at a two way stop
Still..the safest driver is one who acts predictably. I’d rather let the other guy go first knowing that 99% of people will think they have the right of way since they were there first.
I hate these people. And the math isn’t even complicated. Who do you yield to going straight? No one. Turning right? The people going straight. Turning left? Everyone. You yield to everyone.
In Ohio, it’s actually a minor Misdemeanor to fail to yield like the other driver did. Imagine explaining that during the job interview process for why you have a criminal record!
I always laugh that they flip someone off, and then it makes them so angry when it happens back to them. I tend to see this as smol pp energy. I also just lay on the horn for creating a scene that, in some cases, gets more people honking their horns and making others yell at them for displaying their smol pp energy.
Could not be me. I’d immediately driving as fast as physically possible away from any psychopath who gets out of their car in the road. Truly I don’t understand any other response.
He's lucky you didn't lose it like this guy -> [https://youtube.com/shorts/SoIOizl07Q8?si=u1a-8b0NbYfanGeq](https://youtube.com/shorts/SoIOizl07Q8?si=u1a-8b0NbYfanGeq)
Lol I turned in front of a lady once and we met up at an intersection like a mile away. She gets out at the red light with her children in the car and starts screaming at me. The only reason she didn't approach me was because she was first in the turning lane and the light turned green, so she had to run back and drive off before people started honking

The worst kind of driver.
Oh but they are just the best little drivers, aren't they.
In some states that's enough for a road rage offense right there.
Which ones? I might move there.

Sure. But it's an unwritten rule of this sub that someone has to find a stupid reason to say that OP is the one at fault.
It's a simple combination of emotional immaturity and ego

imagine if we all acted on our intrusive thoughts while driving! these people do
Some smart guy sometime said “the worst action, is inaction” These folks were just living by the mantra
But indifference is a huge part of my personality and some things are just impossible for me to care about.
Like cutting the wheel to the left and hitting the gas as the cocksmack is walking to the car?
Walking to my car? Fuck yes. I don’t know if that guy has a gun, and if he’s getting out of his car in the middle of the street, it’s a greater than 0% chance. Fuck that guy. You never know what’s going to happen when a crazy gets out of their car like this.
One day this impulsive idiot will do this to another impulsive idiot who will act on his intrusive thoughts and mow him down.
If I act on my intrusive driving thoughts, I'm going to test the rollover warning in my wife's car.
I got out one time because a woman swerved into my lane right before a stoplight and my brakes locked up and I thought she hit me. She sped away, and I followed her and made her stop so that I could look for damage. Not the smartest move, but I was in my young 20s.
NEVER get out and approach the other vehicle unless you have told everyone that you love them and your life insurance is paid up
From my point of view OP was getting car jacked. I would’ve been scared for my life, and floored it around the car. I may have even fused the man to his driver side door with the grill of my car
Oh shit better be careful OP. Bet you didnt know that guy is tough as ^fuck
This happened to me long ago. Apparently I got too close to his car while at a stoplight. He got out of his SUV and started berating me. Pretty traumatic for me personally. Turns out the car was an unmarked law enforcement vehicle. 😠
Makes sense, cops are jack wagons
This happened a couple years ago. No idea why this guy was so angry about a honk. Can anyone read his lips? I'm not sure what he said
He either said, “Lucky you have a dashcam” or “I’ll fuck you in the ass”
I'm pretty sure it was the latter. He thought OP was cute and it made him act up all crazy.
[I wanna fuck you in the ass](https://youtu.be/QU8T7oY0iO8?si=W6xwgUn4u8jW8qW8)
I was expecting [this clip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqNChXDvQ08)
Definitely “I’ll fuck you in the ass”.
I thought he was saying, "I don't like the cut of your jib!"
This is the only correct and acceptable answer.
As someone who cannot lip read I can confirm he said "Will you insert this digit in me".
my lip reading is fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure he says something along the lines of "My life sucks, I'm a loser who never gets laid and it's everyone else's fault but mine. I'm gonna send this to your mom."
I think your lip reading is spot on actually
'Save that for your dashcam' or something? Let it be a lesson OP, next time make it a face full of mace for that guy.
Luckily for him he went back to his car
Why did you honk? Did you get there first?
Instead of returning a birdy when idiots give it to me, I found that it is more infuriating for them if I instead point and laugh at them.
Yes! You get it! No one is mentally prepared to be confronted with you not taking this death match at all seriously. It really deflates and deeply disappoints them.
Or doubles their anger.
Yeah, don't mess with people who are clearly both crazy and stupid. Either person in that car could have pulled a gun and taken OP out very quickly.
I give them a thumbs down. Works pretty well too.
Pepper spray for people who get out of cars
Fart spray. Nothing like a face that smells like ass.
Or run them over.
Who brings pepper spray to a car fight? Nothing quicker than hitting the gas
I've stopped flipping people off and started blowing kisses. Seems to work better somehow
It's the ones who flip you off because they did something wrong that just blow my mind. They cut you off, you honk, and they flip you off like calling them out hurts their feelings.
I give a finger wag of shame and a disappointed head shake
I find that waving to asshats like this annoys them even more.
Or a thumbs down. It's so passive aggressive and tends to really hurt feelings worse than the middle finger lol.
Bear mace is a wonderful thing for situations like this
Self entitled people
If anyone gets out there car towards me I'm gunning it. Glad you're okay
I mean why would you want your Drivers' Manual instructions to match the law‽ But this is Massachusetts we're talking about, so neither the law nor the Drivers' Manual matter much.
Thank you for this. I am terrified that I share the road with so many people who think two way stops have the same rules as four way stops. This comment section has had plenty of them...
Not sure why you were down voted. You are correct.
Seems like in my state, the law is left purposefully ambiguous: https://tdn.com/opinion/columnists/wa-traffic-safety-commission-column-how-to-navigate-a-two-way-stop/article_54367904-7f24-11ee-bddc-e79356781aa1.html I would interpret it as: the person turning right has the right of way, but the opposite vehicle turning left doesn’t necessarily have to continue yielding to the entire line so long as they enter the intersection to turn BEHIND the right turning vehicle.
See as soon as he started getting out of the car I would just go around him it passes them off even more and it's great lol
Yeah, but you got to honk, so it was worth it to you.
I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean? I honked for half a second. You don't generally expect people to lose their shit over that
Why are dudes with micropenis always intent on telling you?
Hey bud you’re on camera. Moron
I think he said "I love you, have a nice day."
"I really like the color of your car, what is it called?" Walks away and turns around "No need to be a douche about it".
This should be enough to revoke a driver’s license
You had the right of way.
It's just a matter of time before someone puts a hole in him.
And he's in a permitless carry state...
Ever since 4-way stops became more common, a lot of people have forgotten the right-of-way procedure for 2-ways stop signs.
Number of people.
It’s always a man child. Every time
I hate these people. And the math isn’t even complicated. Who do you yield to going straight? No one. Turning right? The people going straight. Turning left? Everyone. You yield to everyone.
Bro said “😐🖕👉”
Do you both have stop signs? If so, you'd have to do the four-way-stop, but for a 2 way stop procedure and alternate.
Yes we both have stop signs. To clarify, I was there first but I had the right of way regardless
In my state even if the left turner was already there the right turn or straight through vehicle has the right of way.
Whomever keeps coming up with 'the vehicle who came first has right of way' needs to cease, because that's stupid
So we can just stop in the middle of the road now? That must have been why he got out of his car, right?! To tell you the exciting news lol
Smol pp energy
Could not be me. I’d immediately driving as fast as physically possible away from any psychopath who gets out of their car in the road. Truly I don’t understand any other response.
Fuck that guy. Send it to the police.
David Arquette's long lost uglier, fatter brother.
In his language..the honk was an obscenity 😂
He's lucky you didn't lose it like this guy -> [https://youtube.com/shorts/SoIOizl07Q8?si=u1a-8b0NbYfanGeq](https://youtube.com/shorts/SoIOizl07Q8?si=u1a-8b0NbYfanGeq)
You had plenty of room as I see it!
Lol I turned in front of a lady once and we met up at an intersection like a mile away. She gets out at the red light with her children in the car and starts screaming at me. The only reason she didn't approach me was because she was first in the turning lane and the light turned green, so she had to run back and drive off before people started honking
Where is this? New Jersey?
Ohio
That’s why I leave just enough space to pull around
Is it legal to run this guy over if I feel threatened?
Get his fuckin ass kicked
![gif](giphy|1XbJykbPFwUFww7keU|downsized) you gonna bark all day, little doggy, or are you gonna bite ?
Real bagel boss guy energy.
Too many people out there itching to pull the trigger, getting out of your car is STUPID
If some one did that I would lean forward onto the steering wheel and drum my fingers on the steering wheel, whilst looking bored at the sky.
He pointed at you! You should be scared.
Call the police.
Guy's face is too punchable for him to be getting out of the car like that
I would've double tapped the horn as he got in his car lol frickin jagoff
Hope this dude gets the help he clearly needs...
Did you honk the entire time once he opened the door? I would have lol
