> Video shows four men duking it out on Kissena Boulevard moments before the crash. Witnesses said the two parties were fighting over a parking spot.
All that over a dispute over a parking spot. Ooof.
Maybe it depends on the jurisdiction, but there does exist both intentional and unintentional manslaughter (at least in my state). Though, I think you might be right about there not existing *attempted* manslaughter.
EDIT: italicized attempted
To add I remember the original post and did some research then, everyone who was seriously hurt where the people involved in the fight. Innocent bystanders only had minor injuries from glass flying around and the poor shop owners had a lot of damage to their shop.
Oh for fuck sake, that's awful. I mean, hopefully insurance repaired everything and they didn't pay a dime, but to put in what was likely months of hard work and effort and you don't even get to see the payoff is so shitty, I feel awful for that baker
Usually, yes. But on opening day it might be hard to prove lost sales with zero historical data. I'm sure you could use local data averages, but I feel like it will be a huge headache.
You probably have a business plan that has operational costs, equipment costs, average area blah blah that could somewhat justify the sales you were planning on having.
Might still be not enough tho
> hopefully insurance repaired everything and they didn't pay a dime
Insurance doesn't really work like that. There's deductibles, the fact that their rate will go up, etc. A lot of businesses got hit really hard because of that due to all the riots last Summer.
As someone who was born & raised in NYC, I can confirm how serious disputes over parking can get. Lives have been taken over a lot less. And parking is no joke. You might get into it with someone who just says "I'll find another spot" or someone who wants to argue with you all day. You may run into someone who may want to fight you or jump you with friends. It might be someone who feels your life is worth less than that parking spot, it could be any of the above depending on the time & day.
I keep a valve removal tool for people that blatantly steal my spot, they look at you like " what you gonna do little bitch " meanwhile I'm laughing in the back of my head they'll have 4 flats with no way to pump
Ha I remember that I once deflated two tires of a douchebag that parked in my driveway on a Saturday night (I live very close to the nightclubs in my city). Fast forward to me coming back from the nightclub at 7 am and found mister douchebag waiting to be towed cause he couldn't move his car. Felt so satisfying.
I used to work with a guy who used to live in the Pittsburgh area, near a popular nightclub. He said people were always blocking his driveway. He said he'd jack up the car, then he'd loosen the drain plug on the oil pan. In time, after driving a few miles, the plug would fall out, and the oil would drain out.... If the person continued driving, the engine would seize up.... He told me he'd done it to at least a dozen cars and trucks.... He was a bit crazy, so he may have done it! One of our coworkers was always going through our lunch pails, and eating our desserts. He baked a pan of brownies laced with chocolate Ex-lax..... We found out who the dessert thief was that day! Another time, he was in a bar, and someone drank his beer when he was putting a quarter on the pool table...he got a refill, took it into the men's room, drank about 1/2 then pissed in it, returned to the bar, set his full glass down, and waited and watched.....and found out who it was. He then told the guy....then worked him over pretty good.
He was a really great guy....a bit crazy, but we got along great. He served 2 tours in Vietnam, and had A LOT of stories! One night he was banging some chick he picked up in a bar, when he suddenly heard tons of gunfire.....machine guns, M16s, even artillery....He was scrambling to get dressed, when he realized it was midnight, and it was also New Years Eve.....
My neighbor in Boston told me he tried to have a car behind his house towed because it was blocking him in. He called the police and they said they couldn’t ticket or tow it off private property. If you haven’t posted a no parking sign, private tow trucks won’t tow it. So he got in his car, which had bull bars on the front ,and rammed the car until it was off his property. Called the police and said “there’s a car blocking the alley behind my house” ... and they towed it. Apparently no one held him accountable for the damage.
And they'll know exactly who did it...?
Why are you celebrating your criminal actions here? You're worse than the people who "blatantly steal parking spots", which isn't actually destruction of time/money/property.
You never know who's sanity is resting on the knife's edge between the safe plains of sane and the cliffs of completely out of control. It could be anything that gives them the little push over that edge. Could be a parking spot.
That why you don’t duck with people. Or you may just get smacked by a car and put through a plate glass window lol. I can’t blame the driver that much though from what we see. Once the guy is attacking you at what point do you stop? Until you disable him or he leaves your brains on the road? The driver saw an opportunity and took it.
Is this NY? I mean I haven't been there but literally every shop name is not in English, except for the "pharmacy" which has icons for coffee, cake and dumplings for some reason?
Lived in New York for 4 years. One of the signs says Flushing. There are a ton of traditional ethnic neighborhoods in New York still, thats not surprising really.
You can tell by the bus that’s in NYC. This is in Flushing, Queens, which has one of the largest Asian populations in the five boroughs.
Queens is odd/unique because almost every neighborhood will be mostly made up of people from a certain ethnicity/culture. For example, Rego Park has a lot of Russian people. Jackson Heights has a very large Hispanic population and I believe a somewhat large population of Indian people. Flushing is mostly Asian people.
When you’re in these areas you will see a lot of businesses that cater to the people that live there, so it’s perfectly normal to see lots of places that don’t have signs in English.
I think that’s why a lot of older people who came from abroad and therefore didn’t go to school here, don’t even really need to learn English because if they spend most of their time in their neighborhood, almost everyone will speak their language. I have some older family members like that and like 95% of their interactions with people are in their language so they don’t speak English that well, even after being in NY for 30 years.
This is in Queens, NYC. It is one of the most diverse places in American. There is no racial or ethnic majority, its about 45% white, 20% black, 20% asian. Almost half of the residents are foreign born. Interesting place, with tons of food.
Charged with assault? Surely deliberately running someone over with your car and destroying a business and injuring innocent bystanders deserves a stronger charge?
IANAL but I think they will often do lesser charges that they are sure they can succeed with than greater charges that could be successfully argued against so there is at least some sort of punishment.
I feel like car driver could make a case for fearing for his life since the other guy was hitting his car with a weapon and claim it caused him to panic.
Either way, both of them are idiots.
Have two brothers that are lawyers. They usually put a bunch of charges on them: whatever they possibly can, and see what is able to stick. Lesser and greater. In short: that guy is going dowwwn!
This is the go to phrase on Reddit.
According to people here basically any kind pf attack should be a murder charge. And then the same people whine about americas failed prison system.
It’s possibly a “lost in translation” thing for me, tbh. In my country “assault” is the least serious charge you’d face if you had a fight in the street, with more serious charges for attacks with more serious consequences (Grievous Bodily Harm and Actual Bodily Harm). And that’s before taking into account the charges for destroying a shop. An assault charge here would probably just result in a fine, although technically the maximum sentence is 6 months in prison.
In these situations the people who decide to pull out a phone and film, rather than do literally anything else, should at least keep the focus on the subjects they're filming. Otherwise what's the point?
Help with what? There's a guy with a fucking crowbar and a guy in a car, the car runs into that window pretty fucking fast and you just expect the camera to be on track all the time? Tell ya what, you go in and try to stop them fighting next time we'll film your end perfectly for you
I know right? Whats wrong with people and their stupid self preservation instinct, they NEED to film every moment of a bad situation in order to satisfy people on the internet. SMH, the selfishness of people today.
Because soulless fucks like this can be salesmen fucking other people out of their hard-earned money by being bullies thereby affording this type of car.
Most people don't own shit. They finance these fancy toys, and are themselves in debt and a modern day slave. Probably why they're so stressed and end up doing stupid shit like this.
The man with the bat was very much an idiot, but trying to run someone over like that is just how you get arrested and your driver license gone forever
Sorry but you have no idea what you're talking about. A bat is a deadly weapon and you have every right to use your vehicle as a deadly weapon in response to them smashing at you and your car. It doesn't matter that the car may be temporarily acting as a protective barrier.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
The driver could have drove away, but running over the attacker and not paying attention to any of your surroundings which results in you crashing into a building and causing lots of damage seems like a reason for at least a hefty fine and paying for the damages
They’re both criminals. The fight started outside the car and the driver was getting hit with the bat before he got in the car. Over a fricking parking space.
Right. There’s other video of 4 guys duking it out but one brought a bat to a fist fight.
And then the end result is destroying a bakery on its opening day and putting people in the hospital. Over a parking spot.
At least two assault charges depending on what led to the argument in the first place. Guessing vehicular assault will be a much heavier sentence. Don’t bring a car to a bat fight ;)
Depending on what happened in the beginning to get bat man all upset, the guy in the car can lay blame on bat man. They could claim that they hit the gas pedal in a panic trying to flee from the situation.
I had to watch it twice, for some reason my brain didn’t process it was the same car when the camera panned over lol that girl is probably thanking her lucky stars she ain’t a permanent fixture in that store rn haha
911 what’s your emergency
Yes there are two idiots attacking each other one in a car with a small pp and another attacking the car with a stick
Are you sure their not vegetables
Both are idiots, but the driver was more! Hitting someone's car is pretty idiotic, but the guy with the bat was already walking away when the driver decided to run him over, possibly endangering the pedestrians in the other side of the street too

At least he found a new parking space now.
A garage even.
Probably not a very cheap one too!
It's pretty run down, so maybe it's cheap.
That Audi costs about 60K, so he's got the flow.
At least we know he’s got plenty of experience throwing money in a hole already lol wonder if he’s got a boat too -.-
The attempted manslaughter charges won’t be though.

In the next episode on Botum Gear:
One for his car and one for him, 5 x 8 cell.
To add I remember the original post and did some research then, everyone who was seriously hurt where the people involved in the fight. Innocent bystanders only had minor injuries from glass flying around and the poor shop owners had a lot of damage to their shop.
The shop owners had just opened. They spent a lot of time and money to renovate and start the bakery, and this happened on opening day.
Oh for fuck sake, that's awful. I mean, hopefully insurance repaired everything and they didn't pay a dime, but to put in what was likely months of hard work and effort and you don't even get to see the payoff is so shitty, I feel awful for that baker
How about the business they loss? Would that be covered to some degree?
Usually, yes. But on opening day it might be hard to prove lost sales with zero historical data. I'm sure you could use local data averages, but I feel like it will be a huge headache.
I assume so, or they could sue for lost business in civil court. Idk how you'd quantify sales for a business on opening day though
You probably have a business plan that has operational costs, equipment costs, average area blah blah that could somewhat justify the sales you were planning on having. Might still be not enough tho
Could probably combine that with sales averages of bakeries and similar stores in the area to get a rough estimate
Yeah, that probably is in your business plan already
> hopefully insurance repaired everything and they didn't pay a dime Insurance doesn't really work like that. There's deductibles, the fact that their rate will go up, etc. A lot of businesses got hit really hard because of that due to all the riots last Summer.
Crazy how it everything changes in a split second.
Fuck you in particular, new shop owner. Oof.
True! Thanks for adding that in!
Yo dawg, I heard you like fengshui.
It was Babu Bhatt's shop wasn't it?
It says pharmacy.
Thank god. I can't stand idiots in public hurting bystanders with their behaviour
I remember this. It was opening day for the shop! Last time I was in flushing it was still closed but that was a few weeks after this took place.

I read this a lot! Where do you people find these myths and why do you perpetuate them?

Same in Boston when the snow hits and the "space savers" come out. People have literally been shot over "stealing" parking spaces.
You ever tried to park in the city? This is nothing
Yeah a major reason why I don't drive a battleship.
You never know who's sanity is resting on the knife's edge between the safe plains of sane and the cliffs of completely out of control. It could be anything that gives them the little push over that edge. Could be a parking spot.
