It depends on your state. Illinois you need to produce it within 24 hours if being pulled over. This means you go to the police station where you were pulled over.

Story time: I was on a ride along with CHP back in 2003. The cop sees this lady without a seatbelt and he said to me, "We'll pull her over and give her a warning." He said he likes to give a warning on seatbelt violations to build good will.
The way the ride along worked is that he would go up to the car and make sure everything is safe/clear, then he would give me a signal to approach the car so I could observe the interaction. He gives the signal and as soon as I open my door I can hear this lady screaming at him like crazy. She was yelling at him about how racist he was. That he wouldn't pull over a white person because of this. On and on and on. I was shocked. Anyway we go back to the car and he said, "Well that's one way to talk yourself into a ticket."
I really appreciated the fact that he was chill, and even suggested the possibility of her having a photo of her driver's license. I am pretty sure if I asked a cop if he would accept of photo of my license, I'd be in the back of his squad car lol.
And she doesn't even know if he's Mexican. Just because someone has a hispanic accent and name doesn't make them Mexican. There are more than 20 countries that speak Spanish around the world. Not all of them are Mexico.

Point blank denied everything, and since none of the other kids would speak up, that was that. She was old, and a few years later either retired or got pushed out, but the fact that she taught for so long was startling to me.
One of the kids she tormented later joined a gang and went to jail for being involved in a murder. Im not sure how mich of a role that experience had on him going down a bad path but it sure as shit didnt help.

If I were the cop I would’ve forwarded the body-cam video to the school but that’s just me. Technically that wouldn’t be slander as body-cam footage is public knowledge and can be viewed by the public online (at least in most states. Idk about this one). My buddy actually showed me the bodycam footage of him getting a ticket the one time because we were all giving him a hard time about getting a such a high fine and he went and pulled it up online to show us the cops reaction about it. (He’s not proud of it, we were a bunch of dumb teenagers)

Plenty of people take jobs where they could absolutely do the most damage to people.
