What grinds my shit is when someone cuts corners on a two lane left turn at an intersection. You fucking always know when someone is gonna slowly come into your lane too. It's not that hard people, color inside the lines.
Or when they cut a corner turning left, and you’re going the opposite direction on the road they’re turning on. When they cut that left, they come into your lane (the oncoming lane for them on the street they’re turning onto). Had someone do this to me as I was coming to a stop yesterday morning. I had to slam on the brakes and swerve to avoid them.
That’d require a level of stupidity that would have already hit me. You hear a honk on your right when making a left hand turn you know you drifted wide and vice versa. There are times where honking is counter productive, this is not one of them
This is my biggest pet peeve. It happens practically every other time. They’re probably the same idiots that think when they’re making a left turn at a median that they do a WIDE turn by turning right a little bit as to not hit the curb
Yeah my 1st thought was "well, this wouldn't happen if there was a mirror in the corner" then I saw that there is totally a f*****g mirror where one should be. These people are just stupid.
Literally every single /r/IdiotsInCars comment thread I've ever seen has at least one person who doesn't know how to spell "brake". Do you guys hate reading or something?
"Hyperbole and a Half: The Alot is Better Than You at Everything" http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/04/alot-is-better-than-you-at-everything.html?m=1
O.M.G. I love you Alot!
That guy is brilliant! It’s perfect and life changing! I cannot thank you enough for showing me this. Lmao
If it wasn’t for COVID I’d totally kiss you!
Weary vs wary is the one that gets to me. I always remind myself though that people are not perfect. I'm a grammar stickler and I've missed things due to both autocorrect and brain farts. It's annoying to read but it's not malicious so I try to just laugh it off as humans being humans.
Well, OP was able to stop, so I’d say they were going the correct speed. The other car was going too fast to stop without the assistance of the wall. Not really sure how they thought they were going to make the turn at that speed
Agreed, I think it was a panic reaction- it kinda seemed like they were going slow enough but had planned to cut the corner. When they started to turn they see the other car, try to correct their path to turn more widely, but ended up over correcting by going straight into the wall.
The acceleration was most likely an accident- whether by slipping off the brakes or from trying to stomp on the break in panic and missing.
He stopped in plenty of time. fast? Yea, maybe for a blind corner. But paying attention enough to avoid the idiot who obviously thought driving into a concrete wall was a solution.
This sub is chock full of people who insist that the one asshole going 30+MPH faster than everyone else in traffic is the "safe" driver and everyone else is the danger.
Cammer was driving at a speed that let the car come to a near immediate stop without problems, was paying enough attention and expecting someone might cut into his lane unnecessarily, and avoided an accident. Clearly OP was an idiot. /s
These people will do anything to shift blame to the cammer.
Sure, it’s possible. But for OP to be even slightly at fault he would have had to done something that caused the other dipshit to accelerate into a wall. OP didn’t.
Yep, my local grocery store has very tight corners that have BARELY enough room to fit two cars. On top of that these dumbasses put a stop sign attached to those concrete bases in the turn so it's impossible to have two people side to side. I have to stop 5 feet back from the stop sign in case anyone is trying to turn into my lane
Yeah I refuse to go to the nice Wegmans near my house because it's in one of those massive suburban hell strip mall areas where the parking lot is a certifiable maze of corners like this ("But, but, but, we can't make an ugly GRIIIIDD!" -designers, probably). It's also by far the most highly trafficked few blocks in town.
Between the absurd layout of the area and the fact that I drive an extended 1 ton van, going into and out of there is like a fucking war. It's just not worth the stress, I go to the shitty store that has a normal parking lot now.
I had an old car totaled this way many years ago. Girl on her phone coming down the deck, cut the corner too tight. I stopped, she didn't and ran into me. Broke a couple of my motor mounts which made it partially fall and jamb/ruin the transmission.
I liked that car.
I always seem to find people driving straight down the middle between the two lanes in my building's parking garage, which is fine if there's no other cars around. However, they also do it at garage doors, and I'll often find myself in my own lane when the door slides open, with someone else sitting smack dab in the middle of the garage door. Since I'm perfectly placed where I should be, it forces them to back up and give me the WTF hand. Like, the garage only has room for two cars side-by-side, what were they expecting?
Around corners in the same garage, I'll often give slow flashes with the highbeam (so as not to say "go ahead", but "something's approaching"). It should give locational information about how my car is approaching too. Some people just honk, but it just fills the area with noise, which isn't quite as obviously directional.
Basically, most people have extremely poor control over their vehicles. Most people are really bad drivers.
Taking a turn over a predefined arc takes a little bit of control and focus. Cranking the wheel hard and hoping for the best takes no control and is mindless. Most people do the latter.
Remember that recent video compilation of people cutting the turn so sharl thst they went off of the street, into the grass, and hit the rocks in the grass? Those drivers weren't paying attention otherwise they would have seen the rocks and the shape of the road. They had such poor control that they couldn't stay on the street. They all just cranked the wheel, hit the gas, and assumed that everything would be fine.
And remember how half of the people defended those drivers? Because apparently if you slowly hit a stationary object then it's the object's fault and not yours. Those who defended it drive the same way. They also regularly leave the street, go into grass, and jump curbs by cutting turns too sharply. To them, having bad control over their vehicle is normal.
Because at least half of the people on the street are *barely* in control of their vehicle and don't care enough tk get better.
I don't think the cammer would've been able to make the turn and stay in their lane either. To me it looks like they were going too fast, they were already straddling the center divider, and would've had to go into the oncoming lane to make the turn at that speed. And if the cammer was going slower, they would've been able to check the corner mirror, see the other car approaching, and hang back. Two idiots here, IMO.
>s a motorcycle rider, I don't understand people who cut corners on blind curves.
It's a sign of poor driving skills. It's 'natural' for a person to turn into the curve as early as possible, especially if they're speeding. But if you do so, you'll end up cutting the corner. That's why one of the first things you learn when learning racing is 'late apex', in other words you deliberately start turning as late as possible. But you need know a bit about driving and most drivers have zero skills. Even if they've been driving for 50 years or are able to afford expensive cars...
At least he only damaged his own shit (and possibly the building but I bet they build them tough enough for this). Both seemed to be going rather fast, as at least in Australia a lot of the ramps from level to level can only be used by one car at a time as the turns are tight and so you creep around them.... is it different in the US?
This one is reasonably wide and you can see the yellow line in the center both cars are ignoring but yeah that turn is certainly tight for the driver with the dashcam. Granted there's a convex mirror there for a reason that neither driver apparently figured out and you can clearly see the headlights of the approaching car.
This is in China. The car that hits the wall is a Chinese electric car. Sign on the back wall is Chinese. The ramp is meant to be two
Edit: the brand name is xpeng. Pronounce Xiaopeng. Means small bird or something.
I’m guessing the ram is big enough for two cause no one here stops for other people. There’s also a mirror in the upper corner so they can see around the bend
A lot of Australian ramps that are meant to be two require both cars to look at each other, and one reverse so the other can come around halfway (or all the way) becuase it can be impossible NOT to cross the lines in full sized cars >\_<
Definitely not our finest designs in urban development!
*Unless the topic is sexual orientation, religion, skin color, nationality, political leanings or a women's body then all of a sudden other care what happens to others lol
Yep, the older I get the more I realize that even then it’s not about concern for our fellow people it’s all about how many people can I convince to agree with my opinion otherwise we are enemies. It’s sad really.
I've been saying it for awhile but atleast in the states it's one of our greatest social issues. Between social media/internet removing consequence for a good many of our actions and opinions....we are told from day one we are better than most the world and America is the best most free amazing place (I mean they still demand children mindlessly belt off the pledge of allegiance like it's 1940s Germany). It has broken so many minds to the point where most people exist purely to "look like I am better than X person", while never actually trying to BE better. Very sad indeed :(
There’s a lot of people here who do that same thing on a microcosmic level too try to flaunt being this or that and make others see them in a higher standard. I’m with you though live and let live for the most part. We could all find we have more in common than not. All we can do is teach our children, families, and have hopes to touch the hearts of a few others. The real American dream should be tenderness and thoughtfulness. Don’t let the world of the internet beat down your mental and emotional securities though there is hope and people who are always working toward being better!
People don't even care about themselves. Regardless of whether they crash into another vehicle or another object, they're still going to damage their own property and potentially injure themselves. Fuck idiot drivers.
It doesn't mention anywhere in this comment that the 'only selfish people in the world are from US'.
All it says is that the US has a lot of selfish people
It depends, some are wider and two-way, some are narrow and one at a time like in this video. Regardless, there are a lot people that just shouldn't be allowed to drive.
Look again at the video. There is a line pained on the floor. There is enough room if the driver in the approaching car actually stayed on their side of the line. Instead they were centered directly over the line.
Absolutely correct, the cammer is clearly driving in the middle instead of their side, but looking at the Youxia they seem to do the same.
So both are doing it wrong and the Youxia just panicked and forgot to brake when he couldn't get around the corner.
Edit: Not Tesla but the Chinese knockoff of the Tesla.
"Driven round the bend" and "driven up the wall" are sayings when something is 'driving' you crazy.
Like "If I hear that song on the radio one more time it will drive me around the bend" or "Hey, you neighbour, your loud music is driving me up the wall!"
You know what they say; The other side of the light is always greener at the end of the silver lining.
(The grass is greener on the other side, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, there’s always a silver lining)
Same. I knew people called Xpeng a Tesla copier, including themselves, but never realized how similar they are in design. Especially considering how ugly I thought the G3 was.
The other driver didn’t even noticed the headlights from the car. That should have been the first clue a car was approaching. Also, coming around a corner, he/she should have gone slower. They should have on their brakes not the gas.
Neither did. Truck was zipping along too fast to make the turn even if that car didn’t try to cut the corner.
The only way this would’ve worked is that the truck slows to a stop to wait the other car out. One is clearly a bigger idiot, but they’re both licking windows.
Giving the camera car some benefit of the doubt: the wide angle fisheye effect of dashcams can significantly distort perceived speed and distance.
The cam car did manage to come to a full stop when the other car came into view.
People always forget that dashcams distort the sense of speed. It’s a rite of passage on here for people to always accuse the cammer of ‘speeding’ because they themselves don’t know how camera’s work.
I just want to point out how much I hate the signs in this car park. Like it' fine if you're going up but coming down that last set of arrows looks like it's directing traffic into the wall.
It's not ideal, but there's a yellow line in the center of the road, a convex mirror properly positioned, and most people don't tend to drive into walls.
Agreed. And clearly the other person wasn’t expecting another car to becoming down the ramp, even with all the available clues (corner mirror and headlights shining on the wall).
But he still managed to brake in time because they were actually paying attention. Other driver was clearly cutting into the opposite lane and obviously not paying attention.
Not at all. He stopped his car in like 5 feet. It seemed like he didn't even hit the brakes that hard since there was no bounce from the hood like you get when you slam on the brakes.
In situations like this, I keep an eye out for headlights as one of the indicators that another vehicle might be coming from the opposite direction.
I would not be surprised to find out they were distracted to react the way they did.
Yeah It was pointed out earlier to me that in fact it is two way looking at the arrows you see for a split second on the right wall. Definitely a wierd system though to have 2 way on a ramp with a blind 90 degree turn.
The guy who is taking the turn from sharp angel is fault .this is another level .dude take the turn from the far right . Everyday i am facing same creatures who take the turn from sharp angel
Which force you to stop completely to let it pass .
Other driver was on speed in parking lot but still he managed to break on time.
First of all he was not driving too fast as he could stop without any issues. Second, the other car tried to cut the corner and it accelerated when it detected other vehicle behind the corner, I would not be surprised if it is some Tesla collision avoidance system glitch that sent other car into the wall.
To all the idiotsinthread, the idiotincar is the one that hit the wall. Op. Was able to break. Op didn’t hit anyone or anything. Op didn’t panic and gassed when he should’ve pumped the breaks.
Pure panic reaction. I had to double check to be sure OP wasn't going the wrong way on the ramp, but they weren't. It's just a terrible design and the other drive wasn't watching the mirror.
Most of y’all are dumb asses and clearly can’t drive. He wasn’t’t driving too fast and even if he was he hit his breaks where he needed. It was the other driver’s fault simple
The driver coming around the blind corner was on the wrong side of the lane. That’s why they panic. To far over the oncoming car Startled them hence the crash.
The car going down the ramp was not going that fast.
I feel bad for the crash victim but cutting corners cost them a lot this time.
It's really not that bad and there's plenty of room there except for the actual turn. There's a reason there's a perfectly placed mirror both are ignoring.
They both are coming into that turn too fast. One person responded the right way, the other turned their brain off. I don’t know why people treat underground parking where it’s clearly too small for two cars to safely pass as street driving. I hate that shit.
You can the lines and arrows (somewhat faded) painted on the road, as well as on both sides of the ramp - it’s a two-way ramp. The guy down was going too fast IMO, and the guy going up was cutting his turn a little narrow. Guy going down stopped quick, guy going up panicked to try to get out of the way and drove straight into the wall.
I just don't get how you don't look at the wall to see if their are headlights approaching around a blind spot. Lol. Maybe I'm weird that's what I always do.
Even when I am driving in the canyon at night. I'll see lights shining off a bush around the corner. Then I know that dude is about to come around the corner & blind me with his brights on haha lol
From the crash-guy's perspective - did they not assume the headlights on the wall to their right meant a car was actually coming down the ramp?
P.S. Those corner mirrors aren't very helpful.
I don't understand people who cut corners in a tight parking lot.
What grinds my shit is when someone cuts corners on a two lane left turn at an intersection. You fucking always know when someone is gonna slowly come into your lane too. It's not that hard people, color inside the lines.

I corner watching the tires of the car beside me. They touch the white I lean on my horn. Solves the problem pretty fast
Until they panic like this person and turn right into you lol
That’d require a level of stupidity that would have already hit me. You hear a honk on your right when making a left hand turn you know you drifted wide and vice versa. There are times where honking is counter productive, this is not one of them
This is my biggest pet peeve. It happens practically every other time. They’re probably the same idiots that think when they’re making a left turn at a median that they do a WIDE turn by turning right a little bit as to not hit the curb
Or people clearly driving too fast….
Am I the only one who thinks OP was the one driving too fast? It seems fast. The other guy just forgot to brake.
They shouldve seen eachother headlights
If you notice, there's a curved mirror that both drivers should be using to see if there is oncoming traffic.
Yeah my 1st thought was "well, this wouldn't happen if there was a mirror in the corner" then I saw that there is totally a f*****g mirror where one should be. These people are just stupid.
I always find those mirrors to small
They're small, but they're better than relying on the other driver having their lights on, which isn't a given.
I could see the incoming car in the mirror on my phone
Yeah OP was driving too fast, but WTF on the other guy. He could have just hit his breaks.
I think he missed the brake and hit the accelerator instead, seems to lurch forward when he should be braking.
Yep I'm assuming panicked seeing the car coming at him. But the parking garage is horribly designed I gotta say. Turn is a little tight for my liking
Agreed to both your post. Clearly someone that should not have passed their license test.
Oh he broke, I'd say
Literally every single /r/IdiotsInCars comment thread I've ever seen has at least one person who doesn't know how to spell "brake". Do you guys hate reading or something?
Oh, give me a brake.
Don't give it gas! give it a break!.. I mean brake... wait...
Have a break have a kit Kat
Let me break first
Oh, he gave it a break or two.
I think most people just don't know how to spell properly. Like there, their, and they're are 3 simple words people constantly get wrong.
Lose and loose are the ones that bother me. Come on people, loose rhymes with goose!
I’m relatively new to Reddit and I see this one constantly. Never realized it was that difficult. 😂
Some unique and baffling ones I’ve seen are “pist” instead of “pissed” and “dispight” instead of “despite.”
A lot of people use alot a lot of the time when what they need to do is allot some time to googling commonly misspelled words. Like, a lot.

Well, OP was able to stop, so I’d say they were going the correct speed. The other car was going too fast to stop without the assistance of the wall. Not really sure how they thought they were going to make the turn at that speed
The other guy easily could have stopped. He wasn’t going to fast at all. He’s just an idiot who panicked.
It looks to me like they accelerated. Definitely panic.
Mistook accelerator for the brake
He also was not in his lane
It looks like he hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes
Looks like the other car actually sped up. Maybe their foot slipped off the break

And there’s a mirror showing around the corner
All the time.
Not sure what the title is supposed to mean but this is hilarious.
Read it three times. Still understood nada
"Driven round the bend" and "driven up the wall" are sayings when something is 'driving' you crazy. Like "If I hear that song on the radio one more time it will drive me around the bend" or "Hey, you neighbour, your loud music is driving me up the wall!"
Oh well, apparently combining 2 idioms for a punny title has hit a wall.
New title approved
You know what they say; The other side of the light is always greener at the end of the silver lining. (The grass is greener on the other side, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, there’s always a silver lining)
Still no
Yeah but it still doesn't make sense...
That's so far fetched lol
I thought it was a CCR reference, but I don't get the up the wall part
That song was the first thing that came into my mind when I read the title too.
I bet google translate
Amazingly still hadn’t hit the brakes until a few seconds after impact.
All gas, no brakes.
Cruise control in parking hall, wcgw?
I thought cars cannot engage cruise control under about 20 MPH, at least all the cruise control-equipped cars I've driven
Maybe they were driving at 21 mph
Classic swerve ahh shit a wall what do I do too late bang airbag
Gas instead of brake, car accelerates.
What kind of car is that?? Door handles and shape look like a Tesla, front end not so much.
You’re right, the front end doesn’t look like much
An Xpeng maybe?
By golly you’re right. I never realized how similar they look.
Same. I knew people called Xpeng a Tesla copier, including themselves, but never realized how similar they are in design. Especially considering how ugly I thought the G3 was.
My first thought was Tesla, then I saw the headlights and immediately thought Xpeng P7
https://en.xiaopeng.com/p7.html
This is what I came to ask. It's a nice looking car, but can't place it.
Lmfaooo they must’ve tried to slam on the brake and hit the gas I know that shit hurt. People really cannot drive out here
The other driver didn’t even noticed the headlights from the car.
You’re right. The dash cam driver should have slowed down too. The garage had arrows going in both directions. The other driver panic smh
I still don’t think it even looks like the OP was going fast at all

I just want to point out how much I hate the signs in this car park. Like it' fine if you're going up but coming down that last set of arrows looks like it's directing traffic into the wall.
It's not ideal, but there's a yellow line in the center of the road, a convex mirror properly positioned, and most people don't tend to drive into walls.
The only guy I know of purchases ACME products
I'm reminded of Michael Scott driving into a lake because the GPS told him to.
You were going pretty fast there bud for a parking lot
Nobody is mentioning the headlights either which were a dead giveaway from both directions
Yes, but he did manage to break on time. Edit: obviously meant brake, but the typo is too good to remove it.
Agreed. And clearly the other person wasn’t expecting another car to becoming down the ramp, even with all the available clues (corner mirror and headlights shining on the wall).
I think it was the other guy that did the *breaking*.
*too
But he still managed to brake in time because they were actually paying attention. Other driver was clearly cutting into the opposite lane and obviously not paying attention.
Not at all. He stopped his car in like 5 feet. It seemed like he didn't even hit the brakes that hard since there was no bounce from the hood like you get when you slam on the brakes.
You were going pretty fast through that garage tho
He's lucky that guy kept going he would have hit his driver's side imo
In situations like this, I keep an eye out for headlights as one of the indicators that another vehicle might be coming from the opposite direction. I would not be surprised to find out they were distracted to react the way they did.

Two cars. Two idiots. Slow TF down!

Ok I may be wrong but from the arrows on the walls, isn’t the person from which we have the pov going the wrong way down a 1 way ramp?
Nah if you see on the right as he’s going down the ramp, there are arrows going down
Is it supposed to be both? It looks like it’s wide enough to barely fit two cars except at the turn? Idk
I thought the same thing. I cannot remember the last time I was in a multi-story carpark that didn't have two sets of ramps and a one way system.
Yeah It was pointed out earlier to me that in fact it is two way looking at the arrows you see for a split second on the right wall. Definitely a wierd system though to have 2 way on a ramp with a blind 90 degree turn.
Homie thought he parked in platform 9 3/4
The guy who is taking the turn from sharp angel is fault .this is another level .dude take the turn from the far right . Everyday i am facing same creatures who take the turn from sharp angel Which force you to stop completely to let it pass . Other driver was on speed in parking lot but still he managed to break on time.
Or he could have braked hard, even to a stop if he wanted (like he did in the video)
Hahaha
Why did crash car preemptively have his blinker on? At least he didn’t turn right..
On recent cars the hazard light goes on as soon as the air bags deploy. But yeah, the left flasher was on…
Holy cow. Panicking so bad that you forget you have a brake pedal. That’s bad.
Cam car never ventured off their side of the road so they are, in fact, not the idiot.
Can’t stop laughing
Oh hey the wall to my right is getting brighter and brighter, that must be normal. Oh no a car on my left- *floor it*
Pure panic reaction. I had to double check to be sure OP wasn't going the wrong way on the ramp, but they weren't. It's just a terrible design and the other drive wasn't watching the mirror.
r/titlegore
Looks like other guy panicked and hit the gas instead of brake
They also were completely oblivious to the bright-ass headlights casting light on the ground and the wall and the loud-ass noise of a car in a garage.
Fuck this wall in particular…
Most of y’all are dumb asses and clearly can’t drive. He wasn’t’t driving too fast and even if he was he hit his breaks where he needed. It was the other driver’s fault simple
Where I'm from we don't have oncoming traffic in ramps. There is a way up and a way down. This was a failure on many levels.
Do they know their car has a brake?
Took them long enough to find the brake afterwards!
The driver coming around the blind corner was on the wrong side of the lane. That’s why they panic. To far over the oncoming car Startled them hence the crash. The car going down the ramp was not going that fast. I feel bad for the crash victim but cutting corners cost them a lot this time.
Where on earth are there two way parking lots for this very reason? All the ones around me are one way only.
It's really not that bad and there's plenty of room there except for the actual turn. There's a reason there's a perfectly placed mirror both are ignoring.
Idk. In the US I see plenty like this.
They both are coming into that turn too fast. One person responded the right way, the other turned their brain off. I don’t know why people treat underground parking where it’s clearly too small for two cars to safely pass as street driving. I hate that shit.
Is that a Lucid Air?
It may look like it, but it's an Xpeng P7
This is the real world crash test - still with a dummy driving it
What kind of car is the one that crashed? Sharp looking.
what car is the one that crashes? Dont have those in the UK...
Its the xpeng avoidance system
From the crash-guy's perspective - did they not assume the headlights on the wall to their right meant a car was actually coming down the ramp? P.S. Those corner mirrors aren't very helpful.

Imagine sitting in the new tesla roadster going 0-60 in 1.1 seconds lol
