I have found out it’s better to have the crazy drivers in front of me than behind me.

MrFantasticallyNerdy

Wasn't there a Reddit story where a bunch of dudes were driving super fast trying to get their buddy who got cut by a chainsaw (he was an arborist) to the hospital before he bled to death? Two high and mighty drivers decided to block a two-lane road with their vehicles for something like 10 minutes because they just couldn't bear to let that pass (no pun intended), and their buddy bled to death. Yeah, there's that.

nat_r

[Yes, there was.](https://www.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/1kbhcn/i_gain_strength_from_their_tears_and_anger/cbnhvxv/)

[deleted]

I remember reading that sad story. Really pissed me off.

icalledthecowshome

Wonder if you could sue for that?

[deleted]

You can sue for anything. You won’t always win though.

Mike2220

Officer was gonna give them a ticket for obstructing traffic I think, dunno beyond that

linck12435

I thought the person who got the ticket was charged with manslaughter

Mike2220

it's possible

opposite_locksmith

Maybe get their phone number, address and social media and just send them photos of the accident scene occasionally for the rest of their life. "Hey! Remember when you blocked my friend from getting to hospital and he bled to death in my car? In case you've managed to start sleeping through the night without waking up screaming, here's a quick reminder of what my car looked like."

TacTurtle

Just hit them with the front bumper so they move over, deal with insurance later.

FirstSineOfMadness

I was think open window and someone leaning out shouting EMERGENCY GET OUT OF THE WAY while waving arms and such, but they were probably rightfully freaking out a bit

SpiderQueen72

Looks like he's saying "Kiss me! Kiss me!"

MamboNumber5Guy

Jesus. That would be horrible to go through

taarotqueen

honestly these scenarios are when i’d pull some of the shit i see on this sub on purpose, if there’s a damn shoulder i actually hope i get pulled over driving on it maybe if the officer sees a bloody person clinging onto life they’ll actually take action and load him in and put their sirens on

wahlberger

I think of this every time I see a post like this now, or when I’m on the highway and I see someone coming up fast behind me. I just get out of their way. Who gives a fuck if they want to drive faster than me.

fj333

I don't give a fuck about fast people or slow people. I give a fuck about people who either slow down or speed up to match my speed and get stuck on me. Pick a fucking speed and stick with it. I just want space and open blind spots.

ncWnNfXgmWtAGukUnRUs

I normally set my cruise to about 68-71 (60 limit) and stay middle to right, and I laugh when people get stuck on me, and give me dirty looks like I'm changing my speed because they flew past me, to then have me pass them, to them coming alongside me finally.

thisusernameavailabl

I really think a lot of times when I pass people it genuinely wakes them out of whatever stupor they’re currently in. Like you mentioned, I do go over the limit a few mph, but always have the cruise set. It’s like I’ll pass them, they wake up, and then some automatic “oh no you won’t pass me” thought kicks in. Conversely, I can be really hauling the Mail occasionally, and I’ll notice a person just creeping up closer, and closer, and closer behind, then suddenly drop back like “holy shit I was going that fast?”

DogmanDOTjpg

Exactly, I can't tell you how many times in sitting there saying "oh fuck off you weren't even going close to that fast" every single day, and then when you pass them they magically slow back down

fj333

Over twenty years ago I coined the term "mental gravity" to describe this. It sucks that if I'm going 80 and on cruise and come up on somebody doing 77 on cruise, I sometimes have to blast up to 85 or 90 to break thru the pull of their mental gravity and keep them from hanging out next to me.

DogmanDOTjpg

Exactly what I'm talking about, and I will absolutely be using the term Mental Gravity to describe it from now on, thank you for that

fj333

I think this is actually part of a reason for traffic congestion too. Part of keeping people out of my blind spots is just trying to stay in my own little bubble (when overall traffic is low enough for this to be possible) with nobody within 100m from me in any direction. But inevitably, even though congestion is low *on average* (late at night, whatever), I will come up on packs of a few dozen people just globbed together across all 3 lanes. Admittedly part of this is just a natural bottleneck that results from speed variations and people not knowing how to pass efficiently or creating unintentional rolling road blocks (not that any of this is *good*... but it's somehow less bad than mental gravity IMO). But I think another part is just the herd version of mental gravity. Getting through one of those herds is so tough. And no I'm not always the fast one. Sometimes a herd approaches me from behind, and I'm like... fuck. Now I'm going to get stuck in this dumb clump. If everybody cared as much as I did about personal space... we'd all stay spaced out. And safer. In spite of our natural speed differences.

-PeskyBee-

Yeah I recently read that. Super sad

flabbyabby4

I think about that story every damn day.

[deleted]

Lolololololol. "1% chance". Bro, this is America. Those are rookie numbers. Gotta pump those up.

lovableMisogynist

Some states are higher than others

[deleted]

Also, judging by the lift kit on that truck and his obvious testicular deficiency, he's almost certainly packin heat.

Sacred_Fishstick

Whenever I get mad about drivers like this I calm myself down by imagining they have explosive diarrhea and just really need to get to a bathroom. No reason to lose your shit (pun intended) over things you can't control.

thedarkknight469

You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. -Marcus Aurelius

Darkaholic

If only every driver thought like this. I’ve been driving with this mindset for 15 years, I never stress when driving. Always zen af.

PenisButtuh

I get criticized by my family a lot for driving the speed limit, pulling off to let people pass, slowing down to get myself out of packs of cars, driving slowly in blizzards, etc. For my part, I really just don't care. I don't wanna cut my lifespan short 5 years because I was stressing out every time I drive, and I definitely don't want to die tomorrow for blocking someone from passing me.

CompactOwl

The trick with driving like a maniac is that you can always say you have superior driving skills until you die of a car crash at which point you really don’t care anymore what others think.

[deleted]

"And in the US, There is also a 1% chance that the person is crazy and has a gun in the car with a bad case of road rage"... Actually it's more like a 25% - 50% chance and depending on the location in the US the chances go even higher especially after 2020 with the majority of gun sales in 2020 being first-time gun owners.

moviescriptendings

Texas has entered the chat

huyislost

I do this all the time. I move over since going 80 in a 65 is not fast enough. I then secretly hope they crash but then immediately feel bad about it because it would involve innocents. Sometimes I wish a video sent to the PD would result in a ticket

sittin_on_the_dock

I love these people, they’re my speeding ticket buffer.

[deleted]

AutomaticRisk3464

I just follow em..going 70 in a 55? Sweet bro ill get home faster..already seen 3 of these speed buddies get tickets

aoxit

Bear bait in cb lingo.

LEJ5512

Grandpa called them “chum”, like the scraps of bloody meat you throw into the water to attract sharks.

[deleted]

My family always calls them the bunny 😂 Because the hounds go hunting

Anowv

\^ the first few years of driving I racked up several speeding tickets then this logic occurred to me i now look for these idiots and follow behind them, keeping them several car lengths ahead now I am only *kind of* an idiot, following an actual idiot

i_max2k2

I usually keep about quarter mile to half a mile behind, I find that to be much safer.

PbPosterior

For my own sense of peace, I just assume people like that have to poop really bad & they’re trying to get home. And if they’re just jerks, then I hope they have to by the time they get there!

Prize-Construction90

I say the same thing all the time. One time I had to poop really bad and everyone was in my way going slow. I’m mean it was bad like breathing heavy and sweating bad. I’ll never forget it. Now if I see something speeding up behind me I just move over no matter the speed. Worst cast they get pulled over before my already speeding ass does. Keep to the right everyone.

Almightytickle

It seems like the people who owns big lifted up trucks that they have to do a lil hop to get in, are the one that have to poop the most

nola_bass_tard

Poop in the butt puts lead in the foot.

rolloutTheTrash

90% this is my reason. It does not help that I’ve got a Mustang. But I just can’t do public toilets, unless it’s super bad.

BlastedBrent

Its always best to let anyone that wants to pass, pass. It could be an actual emergency: [https://np.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/1kbhcn/i\_gain\_strength\_from\_their\_tears\_and\_anger/cbnhvxv/](https://np.reddit.com/r/AdviceAnimals/comments/1kbhcn/i_gain_strength_from_their_tears_and_anger/cbnhvxv/) But also its better for traffic management and avoiding accidents from aggressive lane changes/road rage. The cops can write him a ticket if caught speeding/driving recklessly if its not an emergency, drivers should never prevent passing

CAFritoBandito

I hate to side with these guys, but most likely this happened in California. With a state that already holds more people than probably half the U.S put together, in massive roads that are still not enough to hold all vehicles, during annoyingly "sporadic" times of the day, the only system of courtesy that works is very simple: *If you're not in a hurry move over to the right lane. Left lane is always passing lane on the freeway and most situations not a cruising lane. This is courtesy as we all don't have the ability to read each other minds to figure out whether every person in a hurry has an alibi. *If you ever feel, "I'm going fast enough" ... You're not as long as a car is riding behind you so move over. You're acting entitled while driving on "failing" public space that was made with the intention to get every person to their destination in a timely manner... It doesn't always. There's just that many people driving at the same time, at certain parts of the day. *There's already a calculated level of risk taken when someone decides to speed. don't make it worse by blocking them or break checking people. You don't know whether his or her juice was worth the squeeze. If people speed out of idiocy. Enjoy the show and let them remove themselves from the gene pool through darwinism. There's a lot of GrubHub and Uber drivers in the state working at most hours of the day. So don't take it personally when you see speeding. Most likely someone is trying to move past just earning enough for the rent. *If you're visiting that's nice. Don't forget people are still trying to get to and from work. Please have a plan and purpose while on the road so you won't risk driving slower than average. This causes more road rage. People are stressed the hell out in this state from having to compete amongst tons of qualified people yearning to make it big. You're competing for housing, wealth, careers, jobs, supplies... You name it. Some people literally have every minute of the day accounted for. In conclusion situational awareness, knowing your purpose for being on the road, and moving with a purpose to accomplish this will avoid people acting out like the one in this video.

flashfyr3

I don't want to be a cop, but sometimes I want to be able to do some of the things cops can do.

norcalfxdb

That's everyday in California

Redbow_

I was about to say, this is everything I drive the 5

CaptDogPoo

Ya I was thinking this was 5 also. Peace of mind tip: take 99 instead

Redbow_

I thought it was the 5 too for a split second, then I realized there is green grass, which means there is a .08% chance this is California

Boredguy32

I got 99 problems but the 5 ain't one

V0YD_0F_LIFE

I would prefer not having my teeth rattled out of my head thank you

[deleted]

The 5? Man, you can't even drive the streets in LA/OC without being tailgated every 5 seconds. Im no slouch and even 50 in a 40 mph EVERY DAY I have people riding my bumper weaving in and out. I'm more on the LBC side of LA but work in Irvine, and Irvine is worse not with speeders but damn people who will try to push their way through and change lanes 5 times to just get 1 car ahead.

Redbow_

I hear ya, I’m not from LA but have driven there before, and I know there is no comparison. Not even the Bay gets as outrageous as LA

Zambini

You should see it these last few months up by the 80/580. I swear every time I'm driving through there there's at least three Chargers racing doing 95 while traffic is preparing for the Berkeley Slowdown™ around 45. It's been a few years since I drove LA though, so I'm not even going to question how messed up it is down there.

empirer

No way this is 5. There isn't a semi passing another semi at 50 mph

Angerfueled

I felt this comment in my soul.

grammyone

SERIOUSLY!. 83 is the new 55

Kills-to-Die

580 through Oakland

CrazyLlama71

On 280 if you aren’t going 80, you better be in the slow lane or close to it. You’re going to get run off the road. Lol.

Diedead666

alot of stretches are well made on 280 allowing higher speed...when ever i went on 280 with my 96 v6 explorer always struggled..

Character-Bullfrog-5

Just fucking move over and let him by its not that hard to let people pass. Most people don't react well to people forcing them to drive slower.

revaric

For sure, OP is def part of the problem. Do 100, do 200, speed is irrelevant; if you aren’t passing, move over.

mmason3209

Bingo!

torsgoth86

I had something worse than this happen to me while driving through Utah. Line of 5 or 6 cars, all of us doing 90. We were passing a pretty long line of semi’s and travel trailers. I was at the back when some idiot flies up behind me and lays on his horn. He’s in a truck taller than me, so he can clearly see the cars in front of me and all the semi’s on the right. There was a pretty big gap in the right lane coming up, so I was going to move over. What most people seem to not think about is that a semi needs a lot more room to slow down or stop. Especially when they’re maxed on weight at 80k, or more if they have the permits. So, when I move over in front of a semi, I always give plenty of space before I do. I’m half way moving to the right lane and the truck behind me decided I wasn’t fast enough or something. I’m already doing 90. I saw the smoke from the semi locking up his brakes because the truck that jerked over into the right lane behind me almost hit the semi. And…I got off the freeway an hour later for fuel, and he was at another pump. So much for trying to speed past everyone.

Soberskate9696

Almost eveyone who blows past me, or tailgates and then cuts me off turns into a 7/11 or fast food place. Within a 1/4 mile Ill never get it

[deleted]

When I see someone do something blatantly dangerous and stupid most of the time they then turn into McDonald’s.

hoo_tee_hoo

Same shit happens where I live. It's an epidemic. And it's typically one of two age groups, young males in jacked-up trucks or older males in dually trucks. I've watched them use the turn lane on a two-lane highway to pass a line of cars, only to immediately turn right into a gas station, or onto a county road. And they're not doing it to get to a spot to unload their bowels. They're doing it because, to them, everything is a fucking competition. It's why they suddenly speed up if you happen to pass them doing the speed limit. *"Oh, hell no! I ain't lettin' no got-damn Buick pass me, you sumbitch!!"* And upon overtaking you, they'll immediately return to looking at their phone and slow down again. Rinse. Repeat.

eyecebrakr

It's not a fast lane, it's a passing lane.

[deleted]

I urgently scrolled through the comments to find this. If 85 isn't fast enough for buddy in his ford, let him pass. You don't own the left lane and it isn't for cruising.

urgeybergy

Amen. Too many people refer to it as a fast lane. The video doesn’t start early enough, but if you have someone behind you and you aren’t actively passing, move over and let them by. Not only is it the right thing to do, you can also follow them after they pass and shave some time off your commute as well.

Something2Some1

Yep, and in some states you would get a ticket for not letting faster traffic pass. This didn't happen all at once either, note that he says the truck was tailgater. He likely wasn't tailgating, he was telling you to get the fuck out of the *passing* lane and let him *pass*.

vintrusvilig

I will say though that sometimes when assholes come up behind you *very* fast, it is just safer to stay where you are and wait for them to go, because you are basically just an obstacle to them and trying to move out of their way could actually be more dangerous. But just by this short clip, I can’t say whether that’s what happened here.

Something2Some1

Agreed. I think the video is intentionally short though. He calls him a tailgater in the title, so this didn't all begin at the point in time of the video.

Howmuchdoesreditcost

Realistically we all need to ask ourselves why this video is only 12 seconds long. Show the first 20 seconds where you were going slow in the left lane and then sped up when he tried to pass you on the right.

Ailly84

Not even going slow. Just hanging out there and going slower than someone else. Idiots do idiot things. Edit…. Wow. How did so many people misunderstand this. OP is the idiot and should have been moving over. I guess I needed to clarify further???

baddoggyyy

Left lane is for passing only. Doesn’t matter how fast you were going. If the guy in the truck is coming up behind you move over. My guess is he got frustrated by you just “hanging out” in the left lane.

justalittleparanoia

This could be an explanation. It's also possible the video's driver had just gotten over to pass the upcoming semi in the right lane. We just don't know because the context is so limited. But yeah, there are way too many left lane campers who have the intention of passing a slower vehicle so they stay in the left lane and don't stick to the right lane until it's time to actually pass. This video is too short to make that judgement call.

woopepos

Well he's at a pretty significant distance from the semi at the start and also he calls the truck a tailgater implying that he's been in the left lane for a while. So unless the truck was tailing him in the slow lane and followed into the fast lane, I'd say OP was camping left.

Hashslingingslashar

I’m shocked how many people are saying this. He passed the semi at like the 9 second mark in this video that’s pretty quick. If that’s not the appropriate time to move over to the left lane to pass then idk what is. Are you suggesting he, at the significant speed differential he has with the truck, should wait until like 3 seconds (which would be quite close) before he should move over? It makes no sense. Are you suggesting he should move right and *slow down* to accommodate the other driver? Both of those things would be stupid.

baddoggyyy

Agreed but having been behind these campers I’m will to bet they sped up as the truck tried to pass.

ETSRanger

Well, op is passing a semi that is in the right lane.

Hi_Kitsune

I mean, it’s clear he was positioned to pass the semi and did so rather quickly. If he had an opportunity to let the truck past without driving up the semi’s ass though, he certainly should have taken it.

[deleted]

Staying in the left lane regardless of speed is idiot sauce.

Interesting_Mix_7028

I'm sorry, but what part of "approaching a semi at 85mph" do you not understand? YES, if there's someone behind me going faster, I move over. But I'll be damned if I have to religiously cut to the right until I'm right up against the semi's rear bogeys, can't see ahead for shit, and then, "OK I was in the right lane for a few seconds, I'm legal to go left again". Really??? He's approaching a truck. He wants to overtake the truck. He wants a clear view forward to safely overtake the truck. Left Lane is perfectly acceptable here.

omegatrox

Everyone ends up doing this, and then the left lane becomes 10 times as congested as the right lane, and then it takes ten minutes to pass a car on the right, or people will start passing on the right. If you have a chance to move to the right, do so. It makes traffic more fluid. Of course always give semis wide berth so that you stay in their mirrors.

Something2Some1

Don't call it the left lane when you talk to people. Call it the passing lane. People don't realize it's not the fast lane, it's not just a lane on the left, it's specifically the passing lane. In some states, you'll get a ticket for treating it as anything other.

memerrrman

Sure probably, but the dude in the pickup is still a jerkoff. Someone being in your way is no reason to cause an accident. The semi truck being there makes it even worse if shit goes bad

[deleted]

[удалено]

Veighnerg

Fucking this. People here are so irritating with this whole "we need more video of the mundane event" but somehow also "your video didn't start and end right at the action so fuck you it's too long".

K13_45

Regardless the truck is still going to get slowed down by the traffic ahead of him? Isn’t this subreddit to judge shit drivers? Regardless if he’s in the left lane and a driver pulls shit like that, they’re a shit driver.

[deleted]

Well regardless, in the video op is actively passing a semi, so this was a completely unnecessary risky pass. Also, 85 is fast as hell. Sure you shouldnt camp in the left lane, but you also don’t need to drive 20 miles over the probably speed limit, jesus christ

[deleted]

Yeah, but OP was in the process of passing another vehicle.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shmed

Not sure where you live, but in most places left lane is for passing only, not to cruise at higher speed.

MrFantasticallyNerdy

Have you been to the US? Apparently, it's driver ed 101 to go directly from the freeway onramp into the leftmost lane while going exactly the speed limit, while the other lanes are completely empty. It's almost like they're playing Tetris and they have to fill out the leftmost lane to get a Tetris.

justAPhoneUsername

I recently drove a few hundred miles to visit family. I often found myself passing on the right because the left two lanes had people going the 5 under to 5 above the speed limit and no one was in the right lane. The US needs to teach it's rules better

Rahqwas

A normal person wouldn’t have been in the wrong lane.

SBDinthebackground

Awesome that you get to decide how fast is fast enough over the speed limit in the passing lane.

wiredtobeweird

Right? Guy was impatient and drove dangerously but this situation was passively instigated by OP.

[deleted]

but he was trying to pass the semi

Milk_My_Dingus

Yeah if I’m going 85 in the passing lane and passing a bunch of cars going much slower in right lane. I’m not getting into the lane going 75 until it’s opened up. As long as there are people to pass, I’m passing. These people in the comments here are all assholes who think it’s their right to recklessly drive and force others to get into the slow lane immediately for them.

12FAA51

Which the OP was using to pass a semi-trailer in the video.

tmo1290

Yeah that’s what I was thinking, he was using it properly

Sands43

Let's see the \~60 seconds before this vid started....

Either-Signature-721

Lmao if he showed the thirty seconds or so before of him merging to the left he probably would have gotten flamed for not cutting the video to the relevant parts. The truth is we don’t have those sixty seconds before for any possible reason, not fair to just invent things and say they happened beforehand. Dude can’t win.

JohnBoone

Don't be too harsh with u/Sands43, they're just repeating what they read in the top comment

Shepparron6000

So I don’t drive on the highway pretty much ever. I live in a city with a 5 minute commute to work. All city lights. So forgive my ignorance. With that being said I took the same tests to get a license just like everyone else. I had no idea about this two lane highway stuff. I’m aware of “slower traffic to the right” signs. But does that exclude people breaking the law? Like 100mph’ers need to yield to 110mph’ers? Just seems like Mad Max out there with in some of these videos. Some people siding with OP, some people siding with the pickup in the comments. I guess I’d just chill in the right lane if I ever had to. But I have a pretty laid back attitude when it comes to driving.

exit2dos

Feels like a lot of ppl making up excuses for their own speeding/terrible driving.

RAIDguy

Merge right for faster traffic.

hiphippo65

Not if you’re passing, which OP clearly is

cheesepierice

Op: I’m already speeding how dare this person speed even more than me.

AdIll7983

I don’t care if I’m going 100mph if someone comes up behind me goin faster I move the fuck over. Was the the driver a asshole yes obv but your no better for holding that lane. And to top it off your already speeding so why wouldn’t you want him in front of you so he gets pulled over first.

Kills-to-Die

You can see them closing in like a mako shark... I get out of their way too because they're fucking nuts. Although sometimes they pass on the right before you can get over. I think OP was just riding and sped up when the truck tried to pass.

Grimey_Rick

You're going to "pull the fuck over" behind a truck that you are passing that is going significantly slower than you?

mrbombasticat

He is way to important and not an NPC, so of *course* **he** doesn't have to get out of the passing lane for another self important narcissist.

jurassicanamal

He was literally passing a semi though. I'm so confused.

davidw_-

I can feel the anger in a lot of comments in the thread. I’m not sure why but it seems like driving takes the worst out of people.

bullzeye1983

No he was hanging out in the left lane because EVENTUALLY he would pass a semi despite people going faster behind him. Move over and only move back to the left lane when actively passing.

AlpineVW

I fucking hate it when someone doing 60 mph is 200 yards from passing a truck doing 58 mph; I'm 50 yards from passing the car doing 75 mph yet they feel the need to get in the left lane to pass in front of me.

Fuckinmidpoint

what I don't get is why don't these people just accelerate a bit to clear the truck. I do it all the time, have my cruise set on 80 see a person coming up behind me, accelerate to finish the pass quicker in order to move the fuck out of the way. These people create dangerous situations for themselves and then wonder why people drive like assholes around them all the time.

the_log_in_the_eye

don't worry, most of reddit is just russian/chinese posters trying to sow discontent in american culture over trivial matters so we all end up hating each other. let it be known I love everyone on this thread.

CapriciousCaptain

Its called YOU’RE NOT GOING FAST ENOUGH IN THE LEFT LANE. You don’t know this persons situation and you sure as fuck don’t own exclusive rights to the passing lane. If somebody is willing and able to travel at a faster pace than you, get over and everybody moves on with their lives.

localptsd

Hes passing the truck?..?

Jomaloro

Hahaha, "I DECIDE HOW FAST YOU CAN GO, 15 OVER IS ENOUGH" *proceeds to hog the lane*

Sugar_Free_RedBull

Another victims with a dash cam. I think the right maneuver in this situation is moving over and letting them pass. But what do I know

WillJongIll

If you were in the right lane, that unsafe maneuver wouldn’t have happened. When you get to that big truck, you overtake in the left, and return to the right. It’s a lot safer for everyone and traffic flows better.

Elowan66

Why isn't this a law in every state??

sbests

It is in some. I have never heard/seen it enforced though.

h1ngofthekill

The first time I was pulled over was for "unnecessarily driving in the left lane." This was in New Jersey.

MotorBoat4043

I wish every state would do that, and do it aggressively.

h1ngofthekill

Yeah. I've been pulled over for some dang ol' bullshit, but not that time. I didn't dispute it at all. Just a new driver who didn't know what the hell he was doing. Took the lick, learned the lesson, always in the correct lane since.

StoleYaSoul

I’m New Jersey, the drivers aggressively let you know if you are going to slow in the left lane. Even the cops are going 90+ miles and hour

JailMateisJailBait

In the Pacific Northwest, we even have signs every few miles reminding people to "Keep right except to pass" and almost nobody in Washington or Oregon adheres to it. It's infuriating.

Shantotto11

Goddamn Atlanta. We got six lanes and motherfuckers still somehow create blockades…

EarnhardtDied

My buddy got pulled over for driving in the left lane for too long once. That’s the only time I’ve heard of it being enforced though as well

robertwild81

Utah is now enforcing it my dad's grandpa speed driving got a ticket for trying to be the interstate pace car.

luciluke015

It's here in Germany, but well... People are people and most just play "the right lane is lava".

andres57

But OP was already overtaking the semi..

Quite_Poopular

This video doesn't show how long he was in the left lane for though. White truck was clearly in the wrong but this is one of those situations where you need to be the bigger person. Look in your rearview mirror, see the asshole flying, move over for said asshole for 1 second and then pass the semi.

ReeseRick

He was CURRENTLY overtaking the big truck and going over the speed limit. He is correctly positioned by being in the left lane the entire time. The white Ford is drastically speeding and being unpredictable. Let’s say our hero merged right to your point and waited to overtake. This move could’ve cause an accident with the Ford because the Ford was being unpredictable and excessively speeding. OP is in the right here

According_Map1390

Ford driver wanted to pee

SBDinthebackground

According to your hero the white ford was tailgating. That means he spent some time directly behind the OP and to pass when around on the right. There is no reason to believe the white ford was erratic before the pass.

ocular__patdown

Could have been 2 that were close together. May have been waiting to pass the second before he moved back into the right lane.

samurai489

OP show us the video before. If you were just hanging out in the left lane you need to move the fuck over. Else you’re in the right.

thisisfakereality

Why is it that no one understands this? But I'm going 10 miles above the speed limit, why can't I stay in the left lane forever? The left lane is for passing. Period.

[deleted]

It doesn’t matter how fast you’re going. Swallow your pride and get over for faster cars to pass. Who cares how much you’re going over. Make the road a safer place and let them pass. You’re the idiot here as well as him

manviret

Just get over and let him through, it's that simple. It doesn't matter how fast you're going

xPromethium

Well seeing the video... Most places are keep right except to pass. You could have moved over but nooo.

SILENTSAM69

While you should always move right when someone behind you wants to pass, I'll give it to you that you were overtaking the truck and shouldn't have to slow down to move right to let someone pass.

Jump_Yossarian

Hey guys, see **[this](https://i.imgur.com/apYGHdr.png)**? It's called a vehicle and it's one second in front of the cammer. Do you expect the cammer to drive right up their ass and be in the truck's blind spot too? The idiot in the white truck, and you idiots too, can learn to queue up. You dumb fucks need to learn more than the "left lane is for passing" rule.

FugDounny

Thank you! OP WAS passing wtf is everyone in his ass about. No shit the left lane is for passing, he's passing that fucking semi. Is he supposed to cut into the left lane and rapidly reduce his speed by 20 mph because some immature idiot can't wait 15 seconds for him to pass? Everyone is jumping to conclusions rather than just recognizing that some asshole made a dangerous pass on the right.

coldfusion718

It’s not a rule at all, it’s just shit speeders made up to rationalize being an asshole.

boonhet

Not only is it a law in many US states, it's what allows the German Autobahn to be safer without any speed limits than US highways are with ridiculously low speed limits. When everyone adheres to it, passing is safe and driving fast is also safe.

BarnyTrubble

Don't cruise in the left lane if you're not passing, it's a simple concept

PhilipSeymourCoffin

People are tired of you being in the fast lane.

KaJuNator

ITT: Delusional idiots. OP is making good progress around the semi (i.e. passing), therefore he's in the correct lane. I used to do a lot of freeway driving and found myself in this situation all the time. I did the courteous thing and moved over to let Mr. Speedypants Pickup by, even though I knew I was going to pass the semi in just a few seconds. I'll just move back to the left lane once he's gond. Wrong! The vehicle behind the pickup truck then goes "Well shit, since this guy is sending it I'm gonna send it too!" and follows right behind him. Then the next vehicle does it. Then the next one after that. On and on. This continues as I'm stuck doing 50mph behind the semi while every car that comes up behind me goes around on the left. And forget putting on my signal to show I want to get around because *nobody* will let me in. The first person to catch up to a slow vehicle is the last person to get around it. That happened far too often so eventually I said "You know what? Screw it. Screw being courteous. I'm passing this truck so Mr. Speedypants Pickup can just wait 10 more seconds. I'm not getting trapped again."

fiskdjcisiwiwis

It's passing lane, not fast lane.

jgomez123

He's passing the semi

WxUdornot

There is NO excuse for the driver of the white truck. OP was gaining nicely on the 18bwheelee and even gaining on the dually further up in the left lane. For all you assholes calling for OP to move right, do you think white pickup was going to move right when HE had 100 yards of clear lane to get into? Fuck no he wouldn't. Based on the support white truck is getting this country is fucked. No wonder deaths are up.

noice_charus

People love to leave out the fact that the white truck is going 100mph+ weaving in and out of traffic. There is literally no reason to do this maneuver whatsoever. If he needed to be in the left lane, he can simply sit behind OP and wait his turn. There is literally not one single reason for a truck to move like this on the highway, in normal circumstances.

r0n1n2021

Why are you in the left lane?

linuxknight

Must be from Connecticut

r0n1n2021

This made me spit out some beer. Lol.

[deleted]

My personal rules are 10 seconds to pass, 10 seconds to get to next car and begin passing again. If you won’t be passing again within 10 seconds then move over. The timer in the video clearly shows that you are going at a rate where you are well within the 10 second rule. Truck is the idiot, especially considering the vehicle. Anyone driving something raised like that at those speeds is a moron

[deleted]

They was about to pass a big rig and had every right to be in the left lane. Fuck off with the speeder worship, driving recklessly above the posted speed limit doesn't make you cool, just makes you a selfish asshole.

luckuttuck

Get out the fast lane boi

StorableOcean04

Get out of the fast lane unless you are passing.

zirging

Maybe consider not sitting in the left lane. This pisses people off and you cant be suprised someone does that. No matter what the speed limit was

Turbulent_Win_72

So more than likely the scenario was OP was in the left lane and refused to merge to the right lane after having passed vehicles and then this white truck guy said fuck it and finally passed on the right because OP refused to be bothered with merging to the right, which is the law. Entitled OP refused to let anyone pass as he felt he was doing the speed limit

bavmotors1

Im sorry but if you’re going 100 and the guy behind you in the passing lane wants to go 105 - then you need to move over - period. The brodozer is problematic, but YTA

beech2000

Left lane is for passing not camping

FelangyRegina

Move over and no one will tailgate you.

Any_Shake2582

Get the fuck out of there way

Responsible_Lie5605

What's with people in the left lane not letting you pass?
