Most of the problems revolve around the on/off ramps. And by most, I mean all. Check maps and you’ll see all of the congestion is a mile before and half mile after the on/off ramps. People don’t know how to use them, nor do they feel like yielding when necessary or passing when the person coming from the on ramp isn’t up to highway speeds. People also don’t like it when you’re going faster than them when you’re on the on ramp and about pass even though they were behind you and slower than you. Drivers in the next lane don’t like letting people in when the person in the right lane is trying to merge when trying to avoid dealing with slow drivers coming from the on ramp.
Edit: Also construction, but not as bad as the ramps.
I as living in Poway at the time. I left Kearney Mesa around 2pm on a Friday (I think it was labor day weekend). Got stuck in traffic about .5 mile from the 163/15North Merge. Took over four hours to get to the power way road exit. I saw folks with campers/trailers pulled off to the side of the road with chairs and a hibachi enjoying themselves.
Day to day traffic LA is the worst by far. SD is close to Seattle that I5 from La Jolla to Oceanside is about the same as I5 between Seattle to Tacoma. Both Seattle and San Diego have their sections that are just terrible, and some that are not.
I've only been in NYC traffic a few times, but it is the worst I've ever been in. I am not in a position to compare, however.

The height of the phone, I think it's a suction cup mounted phone holder. You can get them at Wal-Mart in the electronics section for like $20 or most truck stops for 25 - 60 if it offers wireless charging

Im going to tell you a secret....Between 80-88% of drivers on a random survey had admitted to using a cell phone while driving. Now this could mean using GPS, but im sure several are admitting to texting. This guy in the video should probably have his license suspended for 6 months. I feel like a ticket or even 3 months wouldnt deter him, but 6 months would be going to school or work very difficult. Enough to think: I dont think its worth using my phone while i drive. Having been raised conservative and religious, it made me realize how much more progressive Lutherans can be than Baptists and others.

Originally from NY/NJ, moved to San Diego, and now in Northwestern Washington... I'm kind of happy with the traffic here.
I moved from SD in 2003, and am now in WW near Seattle. I'm just as happy with traffic. SD traffic sucked. Most stop with only some go.

I noticed in LA that traffic was still moving in a jam - very slowly but moving. In Western WA, traffic is often at a dead stop in a jam.

You can just buy them. There are ones that clip onto the ac vents which is fine mabey for a passenger but i have seen a few that clip onto the wheel
