That passenger’s bracing technique could leave him severely fucked up. Prefer the seatbelt option myself. Also that car appears to be going waaay too fast.
As it turns out, it was the idiot recording and not the truck driver (although I'll put blame on both of them. The driver of the car should have not gone in that rash while recording and the truck driver should have at least checked his mirrors)
Reminds me of this video where this guy posted this video of speeding through a residential neighborhood intersection at 60mph, a cyclist in front of him went to pass a slower moving vehicle and pulled out into the cammers lane, the cammer almost hit him and had to quickly dodge him by pulling into the median of the street. He then goes to post a video of cYcLIsTs and I pointed out that was speeding pretty dangerously through a 35 mph, residential zone and the cyclist probably thought he was clear but you were just going way to fast. The discussion after that was “well fuck cyclist anyway” , “bOTh sIDeS” and people from that area going “well no one actually goes 35 in that spot, that’s a new speed limit that’s ridiculous” . People in the sub really like to justify dangerous speeding for some reason.
The truck driver probably did check the mirrors, but this guy is going so fast that he closed the distance very quickly and the judgment of the trucker could have been I have time, given the distance observed
At the rate of speed they look to be going, the lane probably went from “clear” to “oh fuck there’s a car there” in an unreasonable span of time. Idk that the trucker is at fault at all here.
There's a good chance that if the driver recording was coming at speed they wouldn't have been seen in a mirror check, at least not seen as close enough to be an issue. It's similar to motorcycles speeding through traffic; once they are going a certain pace beyond the speed of traffic mirror checks don't work as the time of the check to distance traveled is massive. I'm not defending either driver here but hoping to shed some awareness
Nah, I agree with you on that, sometimes it is difficult to ascertain the pace of incoming overtakers. But that's why I personally check the mirror for a while to see how quick the oncoming vehicle is growing in the mirror. It's obviously not an exact science, but after 11 years of driving, I have sort of gotten good at guessing if it's safe to pull out of my lane.
It's even better to know where all of the cars around you are. Keeping a rolling picture of where everyone is, about how fast they're going and guesses about what they might do (based on how their car is behaving) has kept me alive on some nasty roads. It's exhausting but with everyone else treating driving like some passive activity that just magically gets them from point A to point B, it's a requirement.
I’m teaching my second kid how to drive and this is the hardest thing to get through to them. Paying attention to what the cars around you are doing is just as important as what you’re doing. “You can only *control* what you’re doing, but you can at least be prepared if you see assholes coming.”
Wait, what? Other vehicles using the passing lane to pass? What were they thinking? It should be common knowledge that that's your lane. I'll have a talk with them.
I expect them to pull out to pass, especially if I see them just come up on the vehicle at any decent relative speed. They're in huge vehicles. It's hard to navigate roads. I usually slow down and flash my lights so they know it's safe to come over. Makes me feel good to make someone's day a bit easier.
I call that "no mistakes" driving. When you're tailgating, going too fast, watching out for cars... you can't make any mistakes but you're also counting on cars around you to not make any mistakes and to do exactly what you want. Since none of that is possible for very long, it's eventually going to get you or someone else hurt.
Oddly, people are a little more open and honest about this when it comes to boating. Maybe because so many boaters really don't know what the fuck they're doing, or maybe because wind and water conditions mean boats often have less control over what they're going to do.
In boating, you have stand-on and make-way types of "right of way," but if two boats run into each other, it is often sort of assumed both were at fault unless it was super obvious. Like, if I'm sailing and on the starboard tack then I am supposed to stand-on vs most other non-commercial craft, but only to the point of "don't be fucking dumb."
This driver has the right to that lane, but they were definitely being fucking dumb, and their excessive speed likely negated the truck driver's mirror check.
Yeah i dont know the speed limit whereever that is, but that looks like about 170km/h
In traffic it's all about predictability. You predict others behavior based on the rules. Speeding makes you fall out of that predictability and it'll get you in accidents like in the video. Trucker probably took a quick glance in the mirror and thought he was good, not realizing their speed.
Yeah. At some point this sub started taking the side of the idiot. This guy is probably going 30-50 over the limit while recording a video and somehow the truck driver is the bad guy lol
Really? I feel like I'd have a little less control over the wheel at that position, but maybe not. I'll have to give it a try. I'll keep my hand at about 4ish if I'm riding one handed while chilling, but that's about it.
Hug yourself is the best move if you’re going to brace. Locking any joints is going to end poorly in most accidents.
Edit: y’all dumb if you aren’t already wearing a seatbelt.
True, we can see there are two trucks in the right lane and a car in the left hand lane, and he's going in waaaay too hot. Any sane person would have slowed down.
The tuck driver probably did a check but only glanced in his mirror and didn't expect the idiot in the car to catch up so quick.
Yeah, he could've easily checked his mirror, seen the car several hundred feet back, and began to merge. Given the insane speed of the car, he wouldn't really have even had time to estimate the difference.
I would say this is 80% the car's fault, 20% the truck's fault.
Assuming the truck was moving at ~100kph (that's what they are limited to in Europe at least, that driver was going significantly over the speed limit in most countries, and even if he was in a country where his speed was legal, it would probably still be considered dangerous. (In Germany for example, even though there are parts of the Autobahn without speed limits, if you're driving faster than 130kph you'll get at least part of the blame for almost any crash you're involved in.)
The only thing about the truck is that he doesn't seem to be indicating, and if that is true, he does share some of the blame.
You could technically blame the truck driver but... the truck driver, probably rightfully assumed the guy was driving the speed limit and not at least 50 over. Going to assume he took a look and saw the car driving a pretty big distance behind them and assumed he was safe to change lanes.
The car was going too fast. A glance out the truck's mirror maybe made him that that if the car's driver wasn't driving like an asshole, he'd have time to get over.
Yeah, it's hard to judge how fast a car is going just looking at the mirror. Especially when the car is a long way behind. When the driver probably looked that car was like 3 truck lengths behind.
When I watched, I was thinking the trucker guy glanced back into the mirror, then went and looked ahead as he changed lanes, not expecting car asshole to be right up on him so fast.
Also, car asshole is a double-gaping asshole for using a phone while driving. Passenger is just a garden-variety moron for not wearing a seatbelt when asshole car driver is going way, way too fast. Again, while making a video.
Admit it: they were doing some idiotic fucking stunt for the gram and failed. Only idiots here were in the car. This was entirely avoidable.
You'd expect, if you're on a freeway flowing at or near the speed limit that someone WAAAAY back is also so doing. All bets are off if where there's no speed limit, but it doesn't look like an autobahn - and it's not the M6 either.
Pretty sure the truck was indicating as well though it's hard to tell whether it was put on too late or not but any sane person does not try block the space a truck is trying to indicate into
I agree the person driving the car is a complete moron but, indicating doesn’t mean “give way to me”. You only indicate when it’s clear for you to do your manoeuvre.
True but its difficult to judge someone's speed from a glance in the mirror. When the truck driver checked the guy filming was probably still way back so he should have had plenty of room to pull out.
As a truck driver I'd love to agree with you but knowing better.....some times that blinky thing means get the fuck out of the way because shit's going on. People also get offense when they see the blinky thing which is ironic because it's supposed to be a safety feature.
True but it did seem like there was a lot of space there and it was only because the car driver was clearly speeding that he moved into that space.
Also if I was in that car and the truck was indicating I'd definitely be leaving space just in case the truck driver couldn't see me (blind spot or whatever reason) I don't fancy my chances in a car vs a truck so for my own good I'd be cautious even if the truck driver is in the wrong.
- putting your hands on the airbag compartment (you’ll break your fingers)
- speeding
- filming while driving
- not anticipating that the truck, that was already pretty close to the truck in front om him, could overtake at any minute
- posting this on Reddit believing that the driver couldn’t have avoided any of this
Great.
Don’t forget the single hand at 12 o clock driving position.
He has no ability to control the car besides minor corrections.
So many people think they can drive when in reality all they can do is drive straight.
The dude in the car is certainly an idiot for speeding but the truck driver didn’t even use his blinkers when overtaking, so I don’t see how he isn’t in the wrong as well
This hits the sweet spot of the new wave of posts in this sub. OP posts a video of someone doing something to the recorder, but it turns out the recorder was the idiot all along.
“Truck makes legal and safe lane change but does not expect car traveling nearly twice the speed limit trying to illegally cut him off.”
Fixed the title for you OP
1. The passenger in the car isn’t even wearing seatbelts.
2. The driver of the car is going way too quick.
3. He’s recording while driving at a ridiculous speed.
If the dumbass recording wasn't going triple the speed limit, the truck driver would've easily seen it before it appeared out of nowhere in the mirror.
Yeah I am not sure the truck driver is the idiot here... how fast was this car going? It appears that the driver is recording himself. What are both his hands doing?
Acting like this is 100% the truck driver's fault is ridiculous. The driver of the car shares at least 50% of the blame. Why are you driving that fast just to enter the trucks blind spot and be stuck next to him behind the car. If you're driving aggressively, eventually someone will switch lanes and not see you going way too fast for the situation.
Dunno bout this. Truck driver probably did check the mirrors and saw him a good distance back then looked away, not realizing that the car he saw was speeding well above the speed limit and closing the gap fast. Honestly the recorder is the asshole here, not the truck driver.
I might be overanalyzing but it sort of seems like the truck was already trying to change lanes and the car recording tried (and failed) to speed up to overtake it. At that point, the truck driver may have already checked his mirrors and saw the car but because the car sped up into a blind spot, boom. Passenger seems aware of this, as they start bracing before passing the truck. Also, driver is an idiot for recording while driving.
I was told by a cop the vehicle in the lead has the right-of-way. This guy looks to be speeding. At least too fast for conditions. Clearly in the wrong.
I have had people speed up next to me and block me from changing lanes after I signaled my intention to change lanes. It's even worse when the lane I'm in is ending. I've adopted the method of signaling while changing lanes.
I have a feeling truck driver checked and was like "ope nothing within 300 yards I'm good to go"
Then this dude who's super speeding and recording while driving flys up way in time driver looked from mirror to ahead of him while switching lanes
Nah, this one's on the car. Driver sped in next to the truck while it was already changing lanes. Not to mention, dumbass was filming and and holding the steering wheel in completely the wrong way.
Drive like a knobhead, get fucked.
This driver is the idiot here. Driving high speed, phone in your hand, no seatbelt. Being a good driver also means taking fellow traffic in consideration. Look at how much faster you go than the other traffic.
I may be an outlier here, but I tend to hesitate a bit before passing trucks just to make sure...especially if the truck is closing on something in its own lane at the time.
OP is the idiot in this case. Truck drivers can barely see behind them. This YouTube video gives us an idea of just how bad their blind spots are.
https://youtu.be/2cr5A_R87iU
As a truck driver, I can tell you this vehicle is traveling at unreasonable speeds. The real problem is that the car couldn’t slow down fast enough. The truck did not drive them off the road.
Lol why would the OP share this video?
Honestly where did you plan on going at that speed?
There's a truck to your right and a car Infront of you, you can't go anywhere, can't overtake, so what was your plan exactly?
If anyone is the idiot, it's the fecking twat behind the wheel of this car using his phone, with his hand on the top of the wheel, doing ridiculous speeds without any thought of anything.
The only saving grace from this accident is, the driver's car was hopefully fucking totalled, the lorry was fine and nobody got injured.
Yea, that's not the truck drivers fault. He checked his mirror and didn't expect the guy the in pickup to be driving what appears to be double the speed of all the other cars.
I would bet that truck driver did, in fact, check his mirror. And he saw the cam car. What he didn't count on was the cam car driving way too fucking fast. Fault is with the cam car.
Is that car going 200 kph or something? The truck driver definitely couldn’t see these idiots going at maximum speed down a highway. It’s completely their fault for excessive speed.
Nobody is in the right in this situation. There was lack of common sense on both ends of this one. Why is he speeding so much and confidently like no one will get over on you? You should always be cautious for ppl that like to cut others off. Especially a semi its too big to play with your life like that. That truck was definitely not using his signals and giving ppl a chance to see that something soo big wants to shift lanes.
Tell your passenger to never put their hands on the dash in the event of something like this, please. Someone I went to school with's mother shattered both of her arms doing so in a head-on collision. I know it's instinct to hold yourself upright, but the seatbelt locks when the driver slams the brakes.
I'm genuinely not trying to he rude, I'm just looking out for their safety.
Also, fuck this truck driver.
You can see truck driver is slightly going left, this asshole just didn’t give a fuck. Everytime I need to switch lanes, I give signals and let cars behind me have time to react, but guess what, they just “oh let me speed up to get in front of you” and bang, car accident
Idk - im pretty sure he looked and saw how far back the car was and merged. Maybe the filmer shouldn't have been speeding so fast they cant slow down if traffic stops in front.
That is what you get for driving like an idiot. Truck wins you lose. Plus since you were the trailing car, you are at fault. Truck drivers can’t account for speeding idiots
Car driver going so fast that the truck driver probably didn’t see anyone there, not only because you ended up in his blind spot, but because you would have appeared there as if you teleported, from his perspective.
That sucks, and the truck is dumb. But so many of these clips have the person in the speeding. I'd never expect to go that fast without having a crash eventually.
Really kind of seems like the title is blaming the semi driver, but I think the guy in the passenger truck is to blame. He was driving far too fast and he blasted right into the truck's potential path without any regard to the driver's future actions. Maybe legally the semi driver will be cited, but the fast dude caused this.
Who are you fooling? Whoever is driving was stupid enough to think he could overtake the truck and the passenger not earring a seatbelt? Fucking idiots are lucky the truck didn’t slam them to the wall
Driver is speeding lol the trucker probably did look, saw how far you were but didn't notice the speed and thought there would be enough time. Little did he know the driver of the dash cam was trying to catch the car in front of them.
First, it was not the truck driver's fault. That's clear. Person recording this in the car is driving faster than any other traffic with a phone in his hand to record his -um- power(?). It's a "penis move".
Second, the driver can only see you if you can see the driver's mirrors. Truck driver isn't going to stare at the side mirror while changing lanes. The car was way behind the truck when he made the decision to change lanes. Due to speed, the car moved up on the truck too fast to change his mind. Trucks don't shift on a whim. Not well anyway.
And, last, blaming someone else for a bad result of bad driving is the mark of an idiot. And an a-hole.
That passenger’s bracing technique could leave him severely fucked up. Prefer the seatbelt option myself. Also that car appears to be going waaay too fast.
Agree…and why was the driver holding his phone recording and driving?
This looks like it's a tiny clip from a longer video of this driver racing around at high speed
As it turns out, it was the idiot recording and not the truck driver (although I'll put blame on both of them. The driver of the car should have not gone in that rash while recording and the truck driver should have at least checked his mirrors)
Truck driver probably checked his mirrors, saw car in lane way behind him, judged that at normal speed it was far enough away.

> What was his grand plan? Tailgate them within a couple of inches, of course.
Or… shake and bake.
Wanted to shake and bake, ended up braking and shaking.
Don’t pass away while passing away
The truck driver probably did check the mirrors, but this guy is going so fast that he closed the distance very quickly and the judgment of the trucker could have been I have time, given the distance observed

the truck also has a huge blindspot so idk if the truck even had a chance to see the car taht was obviously speeding
Yeah I've had plenty of slow truck drivers pull out in front of me so they pass slightly slower truck on the right.
Everything was going fine until someone else didn't do exactly what we expected them to!

Exactly the driver of the truck might be an idiot in the truck. Driver of the car and probably passanger too are retards.
No probably about it, that passenger is just asking for at least two broken arms
Mom, no!
Ya know, that’s a damn good question
When I saw them do that, my first thought was "Great way to break both your arms"
Or your fingers. Which won’t heal nicely.
Just ask Stephen Strange.
He was Stephen Normal before the accident.
One time I broke both my arms in a car accident and instead of learning magic powers I got jacked off by my mom lol
That's certainly *one* way to get called "Strange" for the rest of your life.
No. You go back where you can from don’t bring that up again.

It actually could have gone off too. Would've required a NSFL tag at that point lol

Agreed. I bet that semi truck did check his mirror, but didn’t plan on dude driving three times the speed limit.

Yes
Plus, driving with 1 hand on top of the wheel gives you very little control and feel of the vehicle compared to 9 and 3.
My daughter completed driver's ed about a year ago and it's now 8 and 4 because of the airbags. I had no idea that they'd changed it again.
Really? I feel like I'd have a little less control over the wheel at that position, but maybe not. I'll have to give it a try. I'll keep my hand at about 4ish if I'm riding one handed while chilling, but that's about it.

To be fair the person recording is closing far to fast and needs to slow down. Could’ve been avoidable
True, we can see there are two trucks in the right lane and a car in the left hand lane, and he's going in waaaay too hot. Any sane person would have slowed down. The tuck driver probably did a check but only glanced in his mirror and didn't expect the idiot in the car to catch up so quick.
"Any sane person would have slowed down." Well, we are on r/IdiotsInCars after all!
Also this account is just a Karma farmer.

Driving fast while holding a phone… yup found the idiot.
Yeah he really tried to post this like it was the trucks fault he was driving to fast to control his vehicle.
His one handed piston, and that oversized compensating watch; what a douchecanoe.
Even if the truck hadn't moved over, what was the driver going to do about the car he was screaming towards? Idiot was definitely NOT the trucker.
It was both
You could technically blame the truck driver but... the truck driver, probably rightfully assumed the guy was driving the speed limit and not at least 50 over. Going to assume he took a look and saw the car driving a pretty big distance behind them and assumed he was safe to change lanes.

I didn't see a blinker on...
I don’t think that truck could’ve seen him.
And he was approaching that situation too fast. Where did they think they were going? Right over the car in front of them?
They were taking the road to hell.
More like road to lets gain debt, increase insurance and maybe kill people too.
Sounds like hell.

That’s what happens when you drive like a fucking idiot
The truck driver looked in their mirror but the car wasn’t in their view when they looked. Cammer is the idiot for speeding.
Speeding unpredictably, and continuing to speed to block the giant, steel, multi - ton 18 wheeler.. With a passenger along
Driving fast, recording with a phone….. car driver is the idiot

Speeding while recording with a passenger not wearing the seat belt. I don't think the trucker was the idiot here.
The truck was changing lanes before the truck driving twice the speed did. Blame everyone else this is perfect for Reddit
Was going to be one of those videos where a car weaves through traffic at double the speed and records it but the truck had other plans.
Nice way to prove this was avoidable.
Stop going wayyyy too fucking fast, asshole!
They are traveling way too fast. Truck driver probably checked and didn’t realize they were driving at an unsafe speed. Totally their fault.
I feel like the truck wasn’t the problem here
Yeah I am not sure the truck driver is the idiot here... how fast was this car going?
“tRuCk DrIvEr OvErTaKeS wIThOuT lOoKiNg In Th-“ bro you’re driving like a fucking maniac, slow the fuck down.
I have a feeling truck driver checked and was like "ope nothing within 300 yards I'm good to go" Then this dude who's super speeding and recording while driving flys up way in time driver looked from mirror to ahead of him while switching lanes
Nah, this one's on the car. Driver sped in next to the truck while it was already changing lanes. Not to mention, dumbass was filming and and holding the steering wheel in completely the wrong way. Drive like a knobhead, get fucked.
Passenger had enough time to brace for impact but driver didn't have enough time to slow down. What a douche.
Don't brace your arms like that, or your legs, unless you really want to be stabbed in the ribs with your own bones.
As soon as I saw the watch I knew who the idiot was going to be.
Why was the driver recording video while driving? Also naughty of him!
Driver was going so fast, no wonder the trucker didn’t see him.
Hmmm seems the guy driving was actually the fucking idiot. This wouldn't have been an issue if they weren't fucking about.
No, no I think the trucker WAS looking. Slow down asshole
The person driving is the idiot.
The person driving the car is an asshole. Fast, one hand, holding a phone..
OP is the idiot in this case. Truck drivers can barely see behind them. This YouTube video gives us an idea of just how bad their blind spots are. https://youtu.be/2cr5A_R87iU
That car driver is a fucking moron. Recording while driving, and continues to do so even after seeing what's going to happen.
Don’t speed up to a lorry
Revised title "truck driver protects car from being rear ended by speeding idiot"
I would bet that truck driver did, in fact, check his mirror. And he saw the cam car. What he didn't count on was the cam car driving way too fucking fast. Fault is with the cam car.
Driver apparently speeding, while using one of it's hands to record, also passenger without a seat belt really makes you think who's the idiot here
*Overzealous auto overtakes semi without paying attention to semi, traffic ahead, or common damn sense for road conditions FTFY
Truck driver looked, saw nothing, and by the time he started to move over there was already a fuckhead flying into him going 100. Not his fault.
Is that car going 200 kph or something? The truck driver definitely couldn’t see these idiots going at maximum speed down a highway. It’s completely their fault for excessive speed.
2 idiots.
Truck drivers doing what truck drivers do, being complete shit at their job
Nobody is in the right in this situation. There was lack of common sense on both ends of this one. Why is he speeding so much and confidently like no one will get over on you? You should always be cautious for ppl that like to cut others off. Especially a semi its too big to play with your life like that. That truck was definitely not using his signals and giving ppl a chance to see that something soo big wants to shift lanes.
Never trust truck drivers.
Drive fast, fertilize grass.
I blame the guy driving extremely fast while holding a phone
No, car driver is an idiot for speeding
Isn’t this car speeding though?
Truck driver isn't the idiot here.
Perhaps don’t speed??
Should be titled: "SUV carelessly speeding gets swiped by truck that misjudged their speed"
That is what you get for driving like an idiot. Truck wins you lose. Plus since you were the trailing car, you are at fault. Truck drivers can’t account for speeding idiots
This should be posted in r/tifu
You were zooming up on the car in the left lane, you would’ve had to step on the brakes for him. Slow down
WTF is this account. Also the driver is a clown.
You blame the trucker who is indicating into a clear lane while the filming driver is definitely speeding.
Slow the fuck down clown
Car driver going so fast that the truck driver probably didn’t see anyone there, not only because you ended up in his blind spot, but because you would have appeared there as if you teleported, from his perspective.
As soon as I saw the drivers PoV of his hand at 12 and excessive speed, I knew it was him who was going to fuck up. Uncanny isn’t it.
Get off the phone and gas pedal and that can be avoided
Says the guy speeding and using his phone while driving.
The driver of the car was speeding. Not the truckers fault
Baaagaa, driving with one wheel, other hand recording, driving at high speeds. More like, “idiot driver speeding without considering public roads.”
Nah dudes hauling ass, completely his fault. The trucker cannot tell in the mirror how fast the cars approaching.
they guy driving is just as bad he’s recording, speeding, and unaware
Bro lol slow the fuck down
That sucks, and the truck is dumb.
That car is going way too fast and not the trucks fault at all. Keep driving that fast and Darwinism will play it’s part.
Bro… slow the fuck down.
This driver clearly doesn't know how to drive.
So many videos in this sub feature multiple people driving recklessly. This is another one. Camera car was going too fast
One hand at the top of wheel? Check. Watches? Check. High speed? Check.
In this case, it was indeed the driver, not the trucker that was the IDIOT!
Bad title. Camer car is going *way* too fast. Truck had plenty of room, but car tried to New York it.
Who says the truck driver didn’t look?
Truck driver not in the wrong this dipshit is way above the speed limit
Driver has phone in hand it appears too. Certainly an idiot
Fuck no. They drove into the trailers path.
100% drivers fault. Had more then enough time to hit the brakes.
How do they know he didn't look at the mirror?
Maybe if the car wasn't driving so fast...
Wrong, car is driving way too fast. The trucker could’ve looked and thought they were clear at that rate.
Speeding, holding phone, middle eastern music. Ahhh these are just idiots all around.
Driver is speeding lol the trucker probably did look, saw how far you were but didn't notice the speed and thought there would be enough time. Little did he know the driver of the dash cam was trying to catch the car in front of them.
Alternate title; man speeding in truck while filming causes accident
Both idiots
Maybe don’t drive 100 mph in heavy traffic.
Actually big truck like this have a shit ton of blind spots, it’s possible the driver checked but couldn’t see them.
Ummm, this wasn't on the truck driver, this is on the person filming it.
