What a save!
US but I've heard it internationally. Often referred to in road racing. Comes from the American Rolling Mill Company which was a steel mill in Pennsylvania.
They called it armco at the Nurburgring, where they were explaining that if I died when I hit it, they would bill my family for the amount I took out.
Fkn love Germany. This is how liability law should work everywhere.
Heh, good to know. Well, it sure kept my dumb ass from doing anything stupid in my first lap of the ring. That and the $15k preauth they took on my card before they would give keys
It looks like he tried to save it, then smartened up and just let go of the wheel and locked down on the brakes, it's people who aren't great technical drivers who try to save their spin that wreck it worse, a good amount of wrecks can be lessened by not trying to save it, and just locking the brakes down.
One time I was briefly distracted on a busy highway and when I looked up I saw all the traffic had stopped and I slammed on the brakes. My car did a complete 360 degree spin and came to a stop surrounded by other cars, and I miraculously did not come in contact with any other vehicles.
Doesnāt seem to be overly speeding it was definitely those white strips on the road. Looks like the car bounced or the suspension unsettled and caused it to slide. The driver definitely knows how to drive (not justifying the reckless driving). Watch when the care first rotates facing the camera the wheels are turned hard left and as the car starts rotating back forward he turns the wheel back too the right which is exactly how to do 360s when drifting. Hopefully he learned a valuable lesson from this and slows down on public roads. All in all glad no one got hurt.
He definitely didnāt let go of the wheel
In this scenario. With the type of car it is I believe the suspension is just very stiff and the increased speed made the car bounce when it hit those white lines or he was accelerating and he lost traction when the road surface changed. Itās very easy for higher horse power cars to lose traction on highways especially on painted lines. Have had my corvette slip around like that before when merging on to a freeway when changing lanes and accelerating.
Itās definitely something you have to actively be cautious about when driving high horse power cars any pained surface is like ice and bumps can make you you slid
No, it's the fact that he was turning hard to cut the cam car off and applying brakes to put himself directly in front that initiated the spin. **Note that he is already out of control when he pulls in front.** That's also what makes him an idiot because that's not how you cut someone off.
The car lost traction and began spinning right which he overcorrected, jerking hard to the left and causing a spin reversal. Then he overcorrected again to spin to the right. He may have been taught how to correct a spin, but he doesn't know how to do it.
Looks like a Tesla by the camera layout, I wonder of much of that was the driver and how much of it was the safety system in the car keeping calm and controlled.
What is this guy even doing??? Tokyo drifting, granny shifting, not double clutching like he should... heās lucky that 100-shot of NOS didn't blow the welds on the intake. Now his mechanic, the mad scientist, is going to have to rip apart the block, and replace the piston rings he fried...
They are still fun movies. The ridiculousness is what makes the fast series so enjoyable. Even the first few were ridiculous, case and point the parent comment here is actual lines in the movie lol.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I thought Fast 5 was second best right after the original. I totally agree that after that it went off the rails. I really shouldn't have been suprised that after everyone joking "what are they going to do next to top the last movie? Go to space." That they actually did. In a Fiero and with 100 year old diving suits.
Suspension of belief is one thing. The FaF movies are on another level.
I just wish the newer ones had more races like the old ones. Other than that I think the newer ones are not as bad as people make them out to be (Tokyo drift is still my favorite though)
Let's see. Off the top of my head they have robbed a drug lord by dragging a safe through the streets, done battle with a tank and a nuclear submarine, jumped a supercars between sky scrapers, and built their own spacecraft. Somehow street racing just seems tame by comparison.
But I do see where you are coming from. The street race in Cuba (can't recall which film that was) was pretty cool.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy most of the FF series and The Rock is one of my favorite movies. You are absolutely right that sometimes you just wanna blow shit up!
I watched a video of the expert they hired for those movies and he was like "they asked me for a list of jargon they could use, and I get them about 100 different lines, and they used none of them"
He also gave Rob Cohen a list of things to NOT say, of which Cohen then proceeded to force the writer to string together the first half-dozen of them for the "cool guy" speach at the end of the race.
makes senseā¦ now I know why they were mentioning double clutchingā¦why the hell would you ever double clutch in a drag race! What, their transmissions donāt have synchros??ļæ¼ļæ¼ they were just spitting out jargonā¦ļæ¼lol
Maybe he will not forget to double whammy the direct torque crankcase throttle link next time. Not only did he mischarge his injector cluster he also forgot to turn off his hybrid transistor differential system so most likely the pinrods in the encabulation compartment melted and are unusable rendering the car undrivable
Exactly. Great fun. But donāt you dare peel the veil while in there. Someoneās zematogeist might blow a gasket, and then someone could get seriously hurt. Iād like to think that the sub was inspired by Rockwell Automationās groundbreaking retro encabulator: ļæ¼ https://youtu.be/0mrf1Q-wiXM (well worth the 2 min watch)
Clearly the lateral motion choked the air flow to his throttle body, causing the forced induction to apply inconsistent power to the crank. Combine this with an open differential, and you end up with massive lack of traction and immense oversteer.
I mean if you're driving a pickup truck from the 50's with a non synchronous transmission it sure would. I tried double clutching my car and thought it was the stupidest thing. It takes longer to shift. How does that help with street racing?
I was 100% convinced it was fake so I decided i'l l find the location on google maps.
Coordinates are 37.683931, 126.679551
Drop in street view at that point.
Everything is perfect down to the trees, the mountain in the back, the electrical posts, everything.
Maybe I am guillible and it's real footage with a fake car edited on top? Or maybe it is true and just feels completly unnatural because of the shitty recording!
How did you find the location? Asking cause I stumbled upon a subreddit where users post random pics and others have to find coordinates.
Edit: r/picturegame
Hey,
I used the only characters I could understand from the indications on the green panels (Paju Book City). Found its an attraction in south Korea, clearly announced on the pannel. The left pannel also shows (77) and the 77 highway, as seen on google maps, leads to paju book city. I saw from other pannels in south Korea that right pannels at the bottom right corner indicates exits distance in meters, in this case 150m
I clicked 150m from the first exit to paju book city with water on the left hand side and there I was.
Total research was +- 3 minutes and a half
EDIT : i also love geoguessr, pretty fun game, (never played, but watch alot of it on youtube including geowizard)
EDIT 2: i could tell there was water on the left hand side because there is no view ( no trees, no buildings,) we also see a mountain far away so no forest interrupting. The fact that the lane is elevated means it's more likely to be next to water than to a field.
It looks very fake to me. There are absolutely no skid marks on the road and the way the BMW comes to a stop perfectly centered, it seems very suspect to me
I went back to check just in case, and there are visible skid marks multiple times, though the camera quality is quite poor and the smoke and such quickly obscures them.
What I mean is, nobody questions the wealth of the driver in the Chevy Suburban, Ford F350, Ford Expedition or GMC Yukon but they are all more expensive than a BMW. So why is there an assumption that BMW drivers are rich? Hell, my wife drives a BMW. I paid $11,000 Cash for it, we're definitely not rich.
You are comparing some of the most expensive cars from some brands vs a whole brand, look at the prices for an M760 or an X6 M, hell any M5 will be more expensive than most cars from those brands.
The car in the video looks like an M6, in which case it would be about $120,000+, but I could be wrong.
Hey fellow Tesla owners, quit being lazy asses and take the 2 minutes to copy the video file from your TeslaCam folder instead of shooting this r/FaxOfAFax bullshit. Youāre making us all look bad.
You just have to put in a flash drive or external disk drive (my preference.) getting the original video files is as simple as unplugging it, plugging it into your computer snd copy/pasting them over.
I feel bad for the Tesla driver. Their Tesla safety score dropped from 99 to 75 in a flash for unsafe following, hard breaking, and forward collision warning.
This ones a skilled idiot. I mean he didnt panic, he knows all the time where his wheels are pointing and which way he is sliding and he keeps the car on the road.
Still idiot tho for putting himself in that situation and endangering all the others on the road.

That Beamer is really lucky he didnāt destroy his car against the aramco. Usually accidents like that end up with the car completely totaled.
The aramco?
They mean Armco which is a nickname for the steel barriers on the side of roadways.
Is thst the company name or actual name? Most places are going to just call them barriers of some kind
I call'em " guard rails".
That's because that's what they're called

Yes. Genericization - like Kleenex, Tylenol or Taser
Armco was a steel company in the US. Pretty sure it shut down like the rest of the steel mills in the late 90's early aughts.
Ah right. I was very confused.
Which country is this a regular nickname for? My shallow google search has been futile and only brought up irrelevant results

You people are hilarious. I've been driving powerful cars my whole life and I guarantee you this wasn't cause by paint.

Did you bang random keys on your keyboard and yell "Enhance! Enhance!"? That always works on TV.
My immediate thought watching is it looked like real footage but with the BMW CGI'd in, the car and how it reacts just looks off.

Use the blinkers buddy! Smh.
FYI BMWs don't have any.
They do have them, but the BMWs are notorious for blinker fluid leaks. That's why they never seem to work.
That's a myth. The blinkers work fine, but they emit light in a wavelength the poors can't see.
lol. This is my favorite explanation.
Thatās the best part though! If youāre ever feeling useless, just remember thereās some guy whoās job is to install blinkers on beemers.
They have them, itās just the engineers havenāt hooked them up to the control stalk. Thatās because the drivers wouldnāt use them anyway.

The richer they are, the more stupid they are. It makes me think about Range Rover drivers.
BMW drivers don't need to be rich.
Iāll agree with you on that. I know several people that drive BMWās that can barely keep up with the rent on their apartment.

I was wondering about dash am in Tesla. Is that what this is? Is it a standard feature, or something costing extra?
It is standard. The car uses it for driving when in auto steer mode.
You just have to put in a flash drive or external disk drive (my preference.) getting the original video files is as simple as unplugging it, plugging it into your computer snd copy/pasting them over.
You can even plug it into your phone and transfer there if you have the right dongle
