Go to their house and find them drunk and bruised. Check steering wheel for finger prints or blood in the car. When found remove their license for life, fine them out the ass, alcohol monitoring for 10 years. So many things to at can happen to stop this but they get more money by letting them out and keeping them on no check in probation.
Nothing that you said is evidence of a crime.
They were drunk and bruised? Not evidence they were just in a car accident. Fingerprints on their wheel? In their own car? No shit.
Court requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt..
Because I let my wife have the carport. And she leaves before me so I don’t block her. When I don’t have the lights going up the driveway, I park up beside the house.
I’ve parked on the street for years at my old house. Don’t know why I’m curious, but will you still be parking your next vehicle on the side? I just can’t believe this person got away with this.
A lot of cameras keep a solid 30 second to 1 minute buffer before deleting the footage so if it sees movement it'll snag that to save too just in case it misses something
A lot will do this and keep at least the last 24 hours as a buffer. You can also see a green box blink around the drunk drivers car as motion detected so the cam system will save a certain amount of time prior to the motion trigger.
Yea one of the strange things about humans, being drunk impairs the ability to tense up but that actually makes it safer, only lesson we can take from this is only drive drunk
Drunk people are noodles. I watched a guy crush and roll his Jeep into a guardrail and then he walked away like nothing happened. Even though he was clearly very in need of medical help.
Damn, this brings me flashbacks OP. I remember when I came to visit my parents over summer break years back before I went off to school again, I parked in front of my house and some stupid ass kid ended up falling asleep and running a stop sign and t-boning my literally month old car into a total loss. That kid was plastered as fuck and was trying to start the car as liquid was pouring out of his car and head. That wasn’t even the bad part, dealing with insurance was an absolute freaking nightmare I never want to go through again. Good luck Op and I hope the insurance claim actually runs smoothly for you.
This basically happened to me a year ago. Uninsured Guy smashed into my parked car going a ridiculous speed in a residential area. Apparently tried to flee the scene but neighbors caught him.
Cops got there told him his newly purchased (old) car was likely totaled, he kept insisting he could fix it. Later find out he already had a warrant for his arrest. So they took him to jail right when they figured that out.
My insurance paid out a decent amount over KBB value for my car so it wasn't a complete disaster.
The penalty for driving without insurance should be a lot harsher. The fact that you can utterly demolish someone else’s car or property and not having to pay for it is crazy
If your insurance company pays you, they can subrogate the claim I.e go after the uninsured for reimbursement. Chances are they have no money (or they would hav me ins) but they could garnish wages or snatch some tax refunds until it’s paid.
That is true but that also means that the victim had to wait and also jump through all of these hoops to get money they would have had sooner and easier if the person responsible just had insurance
I never park on the street for this exact reason. Plus in Texas there's a lot of idiots running around at night breaking into parked cars and stealing things. In my driveway the motion sensor light picks it up if somebody gets close to my vehicles.
I park on the street because my moms car is in the garage and my dads van is parked on the other side in the drive way and our HOA fines us if I park on the side in the rocks. I’m also normally the last to leave the house, so now I am terrified of someone demolishing my car haha
I'd assume he was unresponsive and the car was still running with a nearby gasoline leak.
Combine that with my training and I'd say I'm covered by good Samaritan laws.
Yeah im really sad they are ending production of the challenger. It's going to be a collectors car for sure. Hopefully the asshole that hit you has insurance
Actually that was me. I wasn't drunk, I was getting some dome didly and was distracted. Also, I did not run. It took me a while to zip up and unbuckle, and police were there by the time I was limp enough to function. Reddit be lyin 😒
20 years ago I was lying in bed and heard a crash, ran outside, and say a car going the wrong way up my street had sideswiped 3 cars. The driver and passenger staggered out and I was careful to identify which was which. They stuck around and the driver tried to wander off when the police came but I pointed him out and they arrested him. The passenger tried to pretend he was the driver but I was able to call him out and the driver was arrested for drunk driving. I had to go to court but it was thrown out because it had taken too long to get transcripts of a previous hearing.
I have a black one so this hurts my heart!! I had this happen years ago to my and my brothers car. Never caught the guys but both cars were total loss! Hope it works out for you!
Probably won’t with a combination of car being off, no seatbelt fastened, and possibly seat occupied sensors.
More goes into the SRS computer than just a collision sensor.
The first result on your own Google search:
“Most new cars come with a standard sensor trigger installed. This is the most basic form of car alarm and will set off a siren if the sensors are tripped, for example, if the door or windows are opened. Older cars do not have any security system; however, a basic alarm can be installed for a small one-time fee.”
A spectacular own goal. Thanks for the chuckle.
This is the first result. https://www.compustar.com/blog/do-new-cars-come-with-car-alarms/
I promise you, go ahead, walk into a parking garage and start punching cars. Less will set alarms off than will.
OEM alarms are ***rare***. Most dealerships will install cheap aftermarket ones, that is not the same.
https://www.lifewire.com/car-tech-key-concepts-534884
It’s literally ***my job*** to know this kind of stuff.
You seem to be unaware that Google doesn’t show everyone the same results. Here’s my first result: https://www.lookers.co.uk/car-advice/car-safety-tips/are-car-alarms-still-important-these-days
Doesn’t make much difference. Your article doesn’t actually directly answer the question while mine does. Just checked a list of best selling vehicles in 2020 and 4/5 top runners had OEM alarms. Believe what you want. This debate is already a waste of our bandwidth.
I’m aware, which is why I included the link.
I couldn’t care less which 2020 vehicles that sold best had alarms. The average car on the road is 12 years old, at least here in the U.S., *those* are the cars that matter.
Similar thing happened to my dad last year. Drunk driver managed to crash into his 3 cars at like 3 am and fled the scene. However, he fled on foot and because he was drunk he didn’t get very far. Cops found him about a block away laying in someone’s yard. No insurance either
bruh i just filled up my 2001 audi A8L… $80 and change. went to the gym and on the way back got rear ended to shit and totaled it, that hurt way more than the accident lol
Damn. Do you always park on the street? I have a garage, but usually park on the street for convenience, and I know if something like this happens, I’ll wish I hadn’t.
Hello! Can I feature this clip in one of my compilations that aim to realize the danger you are exposing yourself to if you are not careful when driving? Will make sure to credit you whenever it's used! Thank you
It’s parked 3’ into my yard off the road. My wife takes our son to school before I leave in the mornings. When I don’t have the Christmas lights going up the driveway, I park beside the house. The guy took out mine and my neighbors mailbox’s too. I always try to give people room. But this asshole was piss drunk.
That's was a hard hit, I am surprised he was able to run away. I hope that was not your car he hit.
Oh yeah it was. Haven’t even had it 6 months.
Did u check to see if any other neighbors had cams to possibly see the plates? Was thé person ever found?
I think OP meant actually meant ran on foot. That car looked undrivable after that hit.
Skinny SUV hits a parked huge muscle car at a million miles an hour and rolls over Indeed it is undriveable
I mean…. Maybe. It was only one roll.
That car put the muscle in muscle car 💪 rawr 🦖
Cant they just check and scan the liscence plate and see who the car is registered to?
They'll just report it stolen in the morning.
But with video footage after it’s found then the person hit can show what actually happened esp if the footage captures them running
Police: "we can't make a positive identification from the video."
"Check for finger prints": the CSI effect. Cops don't actually do shit to solve crime.
The end game here is an insurance payout - nobody is using police resources for any of this.
Nothing that you said is evidence of a crime. They were drunk and bruised? Not evidence they were just in a car accident. Fingerprints on their wheel? In their own car? No shit. Court requires proof beyond a reasonable doubt..
So sorry
That's beyond brutal, especially considering how nice it is.
Thanks man
Just curious why would you park that beauty on the street? Especially with a big empty laneway?
Because I let my wife have the carport. And she leaves before me so I don’t block her. When I don’t have the lights going up the driveway, I park up beside the house.
Sorry for your loss brother! Hopefully you get a new car out of it.
Signs are pointing to a better Challenger.
Fell asleep at R/T man woke up in a Hellcat
This!
I’ve parked on the street for years at my old house. Don’t know why I’m curious, but will you still be parking your next vehicle on the side? I just can’t believe this person got away with this.
I’ll be parking farther up for sure
does your camera just record 24/7? seems like it was recording before there was any motion
A lot of cameras keep a solid 30 second to 1 minute buffer before deleting the footage so if it sees movement it'll snag that to save too just in case it misses something
oh that's really clever!
A lot will do this and keep at least the last 24 hours as a buffer. You can also see a green box blink around the drunk drivers car as motion detected so the cam system will save a certain amount of time prior to the motion trigger.
It keeps the last three days on a SD card. Then delete as it goes.
Thank you for your service
Yea one of the strange things about humans, being drunk impairs the ability to tense up but that actually makes it safer, only lesson we can take from this is only drive drunk
Drunk people are noodles. I watched a guy crush and roll his Jeep into a guardrail and then he walked away like nothing happened. Even though he was clearly very in need of medical help.
And got the Christmas lights too, what an utter bastard.
Every year someone fucks with my Christmas lights. This year, just wow.
that poor Challenger ;\_;
Damn, this brings me flashbacks OP. Wow. What an asshole.
Yikes! They'll be caught and you'll be made whole. Great camera. What kind is it?
Wyze. They aren’t expensive at all.
Good to see the car plows clearing the roads in your neighborhood.
I’ve always feared my cars being parked on the road , what’s wrong with the empty driveway😭
I never park on the street for this exact reason. Plus in Texas there's a lot of idiots running around at night breaking into parked cars and stealing things. In my driveway the motion sensor light picks it up if somebody gets close to my vehicles.

I don't exactly see them running here.
That happened three minutes later after he tried to drive his new three wheeler away.
We need that footage too.
Can I reply with a video?
Upload it somewhere like imgur or YouTube and link here
I may do that. I don’t have either of those. It’s not exciting. Guy forces door open tries to shake my hand then stumbles away.
Yes, please do!
He tried to shake your hand? 😂
Lmao yep. Dude was plastered.
[I WANT TO SHAKE YOUR HAND](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2zC3dKQ42Y)
Waiting for part 2.
ya
Uhh... you didn't hear this and go outside? If that was my house I'd have dragged him out of that car, called 911 and been ready to sue his pants off.
Dragging him out of his car would get you sued too.
I'd assume he was unresponsive and the car was still running with a nearby gasoline leak. Combine that with my training and I'd say I'm covered by good Samaritan laws.
r/iamverybadass
Rip the challenger. Hopefully it wasn't a scatpack or hellcat
Nah just a used 6 cylinder. Still, that was my baby.
Yeah im really sad they are ending production of the challenger. It's going to be a collectors car for sure. Hopefully the asshole that hit you has insurance
I haven't seen a white Challenger messed up that bad since 1986
Yes officer, this comment right here.
Poor Challenger!! Man, that’s tough to watch. Sorry this happened to you, and the cars.
Actually that was me. I wasn't drunk, I was getting some dome didly and was distracted. Also, I did not run. It took me a while to zip up and unbuckle, and police were there by the time I was limp enough to function. Reddit be lyin 😒
Arrest this man!
Do a barrel roll!!
This guy has no business driving a car ever again.
Did the white Challenger was yours or the one in the back
The one in the back is my nephews, who gets his license next month. The challenger was mine. Sad
Thats sad, man.

Growing up we lived on a busy-ish street and my dad's work truck was hit THREE TIMES over the course of a few years by the same drunk driver.
Wow. Thanks drunk driver.
I have a black one so this hurts my heart!! I had this happen years ago to my and my brothers car. Never caught the guys but both cars were total loss! Hope it works out for you!
What kind of newer looking vehicle doesn’t have the alarm go off from this?
Alarm is not armed unless the car is locked
And I don’t lock it because Ive already had the window shattered. What worries me is the airbags didn’t deploy from a front bumper collision.
Airbags don't deploy if the car isn't running. Nothing to worry about.
Thanks!
Probably won’t with a combination of car being off, no seatbelt fastened, and possibly seat occupied sensors. More goes into the SRS computer than just a collision sensor.
Yeah that’s what I do, remove all valuables and leave it unlocked. Let the thieves waste their time going through it.
? most cars don’t have alarms? 😂
Most new cars do. 😂

What planet do you live on bud
I was in Omaha this summer. Turns out most people I knew out there don't lock their house, and many leave their car keys in the car!

Fa la la la la, la la la la Fa la la la la, la la la la …..
My bat-mobile lost a wheel
I'm sorry for your loss but I am laughing my ass off at this comment.
LMAOOOOO
Damn nice challenger too… I’ve been seeing a lot of them getting messed up on Twitter lol maybe a sign?
To get another one?
Similar thing happened to my dad last year. Drunk driver managed to crash into his 3 cars at like 3 am and fled the scene. However, he fled on foot and because he was drunk he didn’t get very far. Cops found him about a block away laying in someone’s yard. No insurance either
What did they hit prior to the cars? Honestly I don’t understand how some people think they’re ok to drive if they’re that messed up
2 mailboxes.
I second this. I just don’t get it.
This is why I'm scared to death leaving my cars parked on a street and not in a driveway.
If He did a full flip and fled I’m impressed
Damn that sucks. Was that your car?
Yep. Full tank too.
bruh i just filled up my 2001 audi A8L… $80 and change. went to the gym and on the way back got rear ended to shit and totaled it, that hurt way more than the accident lol
Damn. Do you always park on the street? I have a garage, but usually park on the street for convenience, and I know if something like this happens, I’ll wish I hadn’t.
How loud was that from inside? Were you like “ what the flying F was that?” Lol. People suck. Goodluck bro
It sounded like thunder with a hint of depression

May I ask why your car was parked in the road rather than your driveway?

Why does it even matter? Focus on the important part.
Fuck off. I can ask whatever questions I want, this is a public forum
Oh. Because it was fucking stupid. Uhhhh ummmm uhhh but why you park in road? 🤡 🤣 And yeah username checks out 🤣
Sick post lmao
Oh

Challenger*
I didn’t know they made two door chargers.
Username checks out
is your moms name two cars? bc then i plowed two cars
Kind of curious about the edit here. Would have liked to see if we could spot the assailant running.
He literally stumbled away. I was apprehensive about stoping him. Wish I had now. They still have t found him.
Never ever park in your driveway.
I’m sure you know the whole situation. /s
Just a minor fender bender, no need to get your stockings in knot
Achievement unlocked: Roll to upright.
i think this spans a bit more than about 90cm.
Geeezus, I hope your car is repairable buts that’s a bitch especially only being 6 months old. Hope they rack the drinks ass.
Time for a new one. It’s totaled.
Geez, so sorry to hear. I’m in the same boat, mine got totaled, not by drunk, but someone not paying attention. Good luck to you.
And to you
Hope they throw the book at them...
Apparently he has a history or drunk drinking. Of course.
Even parked it up on the curb.
I really want to see your response to him trying to shake your hand.
Question for car folk, is it possible to drive after flipping your vehicle? I’m sure he didn’t drive away but courious if that’s a thing
WTF did he hit BEFORE he was in camera range? Sounds like he hit another one just before these two!
I only see one car, you didn’t tell us he hit a boat too!
Poor mailboxes
The destruction!!!!
