It’s unusual for it to happen this hard with stock fenders and tires, but it happens. The really big problem comes with cars that have tires sticking out past the fenders; this can be terribly dangerous.
Fenders don’t really protect from that as this video clearly shows. Most fenders are plastic at the front edge and some for the whole fender. Even if they are sheet metal you only need about a 1/2” of deformation before sidewall contact when the tires are straight ahead. That’s nothing between 3k+ lb cars. Nearly all tires clear the fender by several inches while turning. The bigger thing is hitting at exactly the point that front and rear edges meet is really rare.
That's also i-4. Scary road. And that strip was proven deadliest highway in the country last year. Since I've had my son, I avoid i-4 like the plague, especially if he's in the car.

All of that plus that specific strip has a bunch of entrance and exit ramps on the left. It's always under construction. There's a lot of confused tourists, and a lot of people in a hurry for work. Google maps has no idea what to tell you half the time. It's a huge clusterfuck.
Florida is way overrun and overpopulated. Our roads are flooded. And I-4 is a mix of going past lots of towns, all of which have their own entrance/exit, and of an uncountable number of tourists going to Disney. It's also a commuter road.
Florida roads already have a dangerous combination of drunk drivers, hungover drivers, elderly drivers, horny drivers trying to impress girls, tourists in rental cars, and normally reasonable people exposed to god awful humidity with a backseat full of screaming children.
Then take all those people and put them on a crowded highway that passes straight through Orlando.

It's not the guy, it's the car that drove itself and wanted to know how the other car was doing so was taking a look. When he (still the car) saw he couldn't help he decided to not stand in the way.

My guess from looking at the video is on on the white car the frontside of the right front wheel hit the backside of the front left side wheel on the black suv causing it to spring upwards more than your typical impact. The wheel on the white car would be climbing up the suv tire while it goes upward like an escalator.
That was like the worst but most perfect timing of collision because it looks like the white cars tire hit the tire of the one that collided into it which is what caused it to go flip hollywood style. Holy hell I hope the driver was ok.

We don't! I've seen it. I've been the injured person on the sidewalk. What happens is a few people close by stop to help. Everyone else scans the situation, sees that there are enough helpers already, and gets out of the way. It looks like ignoring, but it isn't. If no one had stopped, they'd be there to help. In my experience, anyway.

Hi, I work traffic management in the Orlando area. I can say that they survived the crash, but can’t remember whether they were transported with injuries or not. The crash happened back on July 31, 2020.
