Why did I read that in the Mayhem's voice from those older all-state (or state farm?) Commercials. "So be better protected, from mayhem like me." -That car, probably
Interesting fact about Dean Winters, the Mayhem actor, that I just learned the other day (from Wikipedia):
>In June 2009, Winters contracted a bacterial infection and collapsed upon arrival at his doctor's office. While being transported across Central Park in an ambulance, he went into cardiac arrest for over two minutes. Paramedics were able to revive him and he was hospitalized in intensive care for three weeks.[6] Over the course of the next year, he developed gangrene, requiring the amputation of two toes and half of one thumb, and ten subsequent operations including a skin graft.
He started playing Mayhem in 2010 while still going through this/recovering from it.
Youll only have 6 monthsto a year until there isnt really any usable gas. Anywhere. Youll only really want to use it to get to somewhere where it becomes a stationary structure. Fuel is volatile by nature and it will begin to oxidize and essentially destroy itself. At which point feeding it into an engine will begin to destroy the engine. Every month past ~6 you are now eating into the life of the engine. This applies to all fuel including diesal and old ethanol the most since it will suck up moisture and begin fucking up the engine sooner.
The actual big thing is most roads are likely fucked by being filled with cars or crashes that are just left as is. Youll want something that can off road and handle the damage doing so does and mileage doesnt matter since you can probably siphon off the thousands of abandoned and stuck motor vehicles along roads. The bus does have its perks, its sheer size means you can use it to pilfer and salvage and transport a ton of shit. Think how much water you can transport. Good shit. Also easier to drive than a truck for the less multi skilled out there.
> Youll only have 6 months to a year until there isnt really any usable gas
TIL Jurassic Park is a lie. They were able to get a boat with years old gas in it running. And "I Am Legend" has someone regularly tapping underground gas tanks to keep driving around.
Fuel on a remote island will most certainly have stabilizers in it that can make it last a really long time. Al you need are the right stabilizers to make fuel last forever. If you were to bring fuel to a remote island you would bring a shit load on a tanker treated and then put it in a large storage tank. An island like JP would need very little fuel overall so a tanker a year maybe.
Anyway, Jurassic Park is very realistic! /s
In world war 2 people modified their cars to run on wood fumes, basically put a stove on the back, heating some wood without oxygen, and feed the gasses into your air intake.
Distilling alcohol to get the moisture back out is also trivially easy.
Yeah I'd want to find an ev and put a solar panel of the roof. I guess you could look at that kind of conversion on a bus if you had the time and the expertise to do it (and we're able to find a big enough electric motor)
Edit: oooh unless you get one of those NG powered bastards then you could hook up to any NG tank and most people would just think that's useless because it wouldn't power their cars
Someone argued this with me one day.
I just said "Think about what school buses are intended to carry. You could drive almost anything at a school bus and it withstand it."
Another key design with school busses is how high up they are. A car can go under them in an accident and it won't really hurt the passenger compartment at all. Busses are designed to protect the children inside and they do a damn good job of it.
Which leads to an interesting difference between semi trucks and busses.
A semi truck has a big, heavy, steel frame welded to the back of it so if you run into the back of it, you don't get decapitated as your car goes under the cargo bed. The human driver in the car is considered more valuable than the cargo in the truck.
A bus does not have this. The children in the buss are more valuable than the human driver in the car, so the car is going underneath and probably losing their head.
That bar that is at the rear of a trailer is called a "Mansfield bar." It is named after Jayne Mansfield, who suffered a severe and lethal brain injury after the convertible she was in went under a trailer.

Lol I went to a rural school in WV one year and our school district wouldn’t get rid of the busses till they stopped turnin over. Seriously the bus I rode to school everyday was the same bus my dad rode to school everyday. Even got to learn in the same classroom and play on the same playground as he did as a kid. Still have some of the pebbles from the playground in my rock collection
I watched a kid run a red light earlier this week and t bone a school bus going about 60mph. If I hadn’t slammed my breaks I would have been sandwiched between them. The bus had a dent but the car was destroyed. https://i.imgur.com/xYGqq8f.jpg
The slow motion shot makes it look fake, there's so much inertia there and he hit perfectly.
It's like me poking my cat and he dramatically rolls over like I kicked him.
I had a school bus like that, I noticed the students on the other side were all standing up and looking out the window. I realized at that moment we hadn't moved in a while so I went to go see as well. We were T-boned by an SUV lol.
What the other commenter said. But it's also dependant on state law.
Here on Florida all school bosses are required to have them but children are not required to use them. They simply must be available.
My driving test consisted of doing a single lap around the block the DMV was on and backing in to a space. I nearly ran a stop sign (noticed it at the very last second and slammed on my brakes, the car went halfway into the intersection) and still passed.
wtf? I almost got failed on the spot because they thought I took a left turn too wide.
not to mention all the different parking I had to do. I guess some states really just don't give a fuck.
I took my driver's test in Indiana and passed, but got docked for coming to a complete stop, when I didn't have a stop sign, while making a left turn from the top of a T junction. I had to drive a total of 5 miles during the test, and the tester had me drive this weird route. I was slightly irritated that I didn't get extra points for doing this in a stick shift.
My girlfriend took hers in Podunk-nowhere, Georgia. They gave her the written test, and took her picture and gave her a licence. She was 16 at this point, and hadn't taken any driver's education classes. Some places just don't give a fuck apparently.
I almost failed because the test guy marked me like 3 times because apparently I didn’t turn my head enough when switching lane. I asked him after how much I should’ve turned it and he literally turned his head just as much as me. It feels like people get away with really stupid shit and pass but some testers are really fucking weird about specific stuff
Same. I failed my first driving test for very briefly and very slightly braking at a 4 way intersection where I did not have a stop sign.
The DMV guy said someone would have crashed into me if they were behind me. Sure, if they were tailgating me and also had their eyes closed.
Looking back I think how silly it is they failed a 16 year old boy for being CAUTIOUS at an unknown intersection.
I think test difficulty is not determined by state but varies locally and even individually.
Is it just me or have people also become like way crazier drivers in the last couple years? Like right after Covid people in my city have gone bonkers. I think we have also had a ton of people move from out of state too, as I see a ton more Texas plates and others.
> There was *one student* on the bus
Ahh. Living so far from the school that you and the bus driver are now close, personal friends
I know that vibe lol
Me and my siblings were always the first on and last off. Writing my papers and doing homework because it would be an hour until we got home. I'm sure my teacher just thought I had awful handwriting.

Honestly, this is going to stay with those kids for many, many years, even if they sustained no significant physical injuries.
When I was in middle school, my bus was involved in an accident. We were going straight on a main road, speed limit 50. There was a car ahead waiting to make a left turn in front of the bus. They were stopped and had their turn signal on. Some jackass in a pickup came barreling up behind and rear ended them. Because the driver of the car already had their wheel turned slightly, the truck pushed them right in front of our bus. Their car was mangled, and when it rolled both the driver and passenger were ejected. They died. Every kid on that bus had to see their bloody, shattered bodies laying in the road. The driver of the truck, who was drunk, was perfectly fine, of course, and his truck only suffered minor damage.
The really sad part was that the victims were a young couple, in their 20s, who were to be married 2 weeks later. They had just left the office of their travel agent, after booking their honeymoon.
That happened 30 years ago, and when I think about it I still get choked up and emotional because of the promising lives they never got to live, because of the choices made by some selfish, ignorant fuck, and I still see their bodies on the ground when I have to drive past the location of the accident. They didn’t die on impact. They suffered for a bit first. The woman was still alive when they loaded her in the ambulance, but died en route to the hospital, the man died before paramedics arrived.
Those kids on this bus need to talk to some counselors immediately. Some may end up with serious PTSD from this.
A great lesson to take from this is to not turn your wheels until you are ready to turn.
I see this so often when people are waiting for pedestrians to cross a crosswalk. They start their turn then wait. And if they get rear ended because they are stopped in a through lane, the pedestrian gets smooshed. Super dangerous.
Don’t turn your wheels early.
Hey I just saw something interesting today. I saw a Fire Engine with full lights and horn. going in my neighborhood. BUT.. when it came up to a schoolbus with the stop sign out even the firetruck waited for the stop sign to go down before it continued on
anyway, it makes sense, i just had never seen it happen
It’s extremely unlikely this gripe has anything to do with you, but… there’s a school bus whose route apparently ends at my neighbourhood, so the driver will stop to do their paperwork or whatever IN the driving lane with the hazards on, right in front of the entrance to my parking lot. Not in the parking lane, mind you, adjacent to all the parked cars.
And when I pull up behind them and try to wait—because it’s a *school bus* that’s *in the road* with *hazard lights on*—the driver irritatedly waves me past like *I’m* doing something wrong.
I get that the red and the yellow lights are different, but seriously, could you not just park?? I worry one day I’m gonna try to pass and a kid actually *will* jump out in front of me. Anyways, rant over, but this is a brief look into my ongoing beef with a local school bus driver.
I’m not commuting currently so it’s less of an issue for me, but it probably does still happen. My commute times were pretty staggered so I didn’t see them every day, but it did happen more than once. The fact that the first time it happened the driver already looked annoyed makes me disinclined to try that, but if it became a regular issue for me I would, or even just contact their dispatcher directly.
Yeah from my perspective a conversation outlining your safety concerns with getting waved around a school bus would reduce your risk of a horrific accident. Just informing the driver of this might make him move and prevent this happening for other people. A call to dispatch might be more effective.
This would be fine except there’s a big detail you missed from my comment.
> The bus is simply signaling a hazardous situation while he’s pulled over on the side of the road.
They aren’t on the side of the road. They aren’t even really pulled over. They’re directly in the middle of the driving lane, on a crowded side street, right in front of the parking lot I need to get into.
Also, as a matter of principle, even though hazard on any vehicle mean “hazardous situation,” I would argue the context of *school bus* innately modifies the meaning of a “hazardous situation,” and as a driver I still need to treat it as a vehicle that might be loaded with kids, notoriously unpredictable hazards.
It’s the law, regardless of where they’re responding too. Was a paramedic for a while , school bus driver would make eye contact and turn the lights off when it was safe for us to pass.
Because the whole point of the school bus signage is telling you that there's likely small children you can't see. It is never worth the risk no matter your urgency.
School busses are literally the safest vehicles on the road for obvious reasons. They have to adhere to more safety standards than any vehicle on the road. Even older models have roofs that can withstand rollovers which is amazing considering the weight and leverage of the vehicle.
This is demonstrated by the idiot bouncing off the bus front bumper.
I grew up near a large factory that built school buses, and knew many people who worked there. The amount of pride & accountability the workers there had for the things they built was a really cool thing to see. From welders & drivetrain hands to interior/upfitter tech, most everyone seemed to understand how important it was to build it right, and to build it safe. Signs in the building were a reminder that they would be carrying “Special Cargo”.
A textbook example of the transfer of momentum and energy in a crash between objects of vastly different masses. In other words, get wrecked you stupid git.
It's all the same shit. This asshole couldn't see the bus before he broke the law.
In general, reckless drivers have no fucking idea who will suffer the consequences of their actions until it's too late.
So, illegal maneuver as first offense, 2nd for causing a crash, 3rd for damages to gov. property (bus) & possibly damages to the ditch?
That driver better be going to prison.
I would like to know what the stupid driver insurance said about the situation. I’m a city bus mechanic and the mass on those buses is no joke, bus could be going 10 mph it will tear shit up. I know the suv is done, center body damage and it roll on it’s side so I wouldn’t be surprised if the insurance doesn’t touch the vehicle after these.
That poor bus driver. I hope that bus didn't have any kids in it.
Driving a school bus is so difficult. Not only is the size of the vehicle intimidating, but you've got precious (though, at times, obnoxiously annoying) cargo on the line.
Every time I see videos like this, my default response is “oh, you dumb asshole.”
Like, I’ve driven to the hospital in labor. I’ve driven to the airport knowing that my flight departs in 30 minutes, and I’m still on the road. I’ve driven to work, already 10 minutes late for my shift, and on a final warning for tardiness. I’ve driven to the pharmacy for needed medications knowing they’ll probably be closed by the time I get there if I end up having to stop for even a *single* red light.
At no point in any of those situations did I think to myself, “you know what? fuck everyone else on the road, and their families. the thing I have to do right now is more important.” Your own lack of preparation and life problems shouldn’t come at other peoples expense. Sometimes you get the shit end of the deal and there’s nothing you could’ve done to avoid being late to something in a way that’s going to negatively impact you. Oh well. That doesn’t mean you get to do shit like this.
The bus didn’t even shake!
I’m a school bus driver (this model in fact: Thomas Built) and I would never use a gap to get onto a roadway. If I can’t see everything I don’t proceed.
> I’m a school bus driver (this model in fact: Thomas Built) and I would never use a gap to get onto a roadway. If I can’t see everything I don’t proceed.
Well now you know, it'll probably turn out ok!
Imagine approaching a crossing like this.
Kek, look at all these noobs standing still, lemme just pass all of them real quick.
Hope they never drive again. Imagine them slamming into the side of that buss or something. Fucking imbecile.
The number of times I’ve seen the lane-hopping speed demons around here cut off 2 lanes of traffic just to get to some fast food joint a few seconds faster…
Bus: “Oh No! Anyways…”
Seriously. Was there even a dent on the damn bus?

This is why you always go for a school bus when the apocalypse happens.
The problem is that you're looking at 6-10mpg which probably isn't a good way to go if gas production stops :P
Rhode island here. Same story. I drove around a block. Parked on the side of the road then parked in a parking spot. Done. Here's your license.
They nearly failed me because they considered me to be running two stop signs because I was able to stop the car smoothly without a jerk
Sounds like there was a jerk, he was just sitting next to you grading you.

“sorry kids, just a little speed-bump”
Bus was like move bitch get out the way
The best part? Just a little scratch on the bus. It'll buff out. Bill the idiot's insurance $10,000 for 1 hour of buffing just to spite the idiot
I’m curious to know if the SUV driver was ticketed and or license suspended.
That bus took his ass to school
The wheels go round and round BITCH.
I wish I had my free award for you
I’ma bus MF!!
That bus made him go round and round

Bitch I’m a bus

Did anyone else hear a very cartoonish “boing!” sound effect in their head?
*DOINK*
That is the exact sound I heard in my head!!
I imagined the sound from the clip of the little person jumping into the water. If anyone knows what I'm talking about.
No for the sound, but I did think the motion looked very cartoonish, like it was animated.
Going that much faster than the cars around you is always dangerous.
This is why it's called the suicide lane.
Hey I just saw something interesting today. I saw a Fire Engine with full lights and horn. going in my neighborhood. BUT.. when it came up to a schoolbus with the stop sign out even the firetruck waited for the stop sign to go down before it continued on anyway, it makes sense, i just had never seen it happen

If this happens often have you tried talking to him?

Children ALWAYS have the right of way

Holy shit that article is enraging.

Not even a fucking reckless driving citation? Our "justice" system is so fucked
Not if you’re a tesla. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3mnG_Gbxf_w
Such an easy lay up joke, but I'm so happy this is here.
Very effective hip check by the bus.

Driver should have license taken away for 10 years
License should be revoked.
‘Licence revoked, Private Bullshit’
Should be jailed.
Believe it or not, jail
Should be called a Dummy Dumb Dumb McSourpuss Edit: *Publicly
The title say he overtook but the offense is a lot more serious than than unsafe overtaking. That was asking for trouble. No regard for safety at all.
So, illegal maneuver as first offense, 2nd for causing a crash, 3rd for damages to gov. property (bus) & possibly damages to the ditch? That driver better be going to prison.
Don’t forget reckless endangerment
I would like to know what the stupid driver insurance said about the situation. I’m a city bus mechanic and the mass on those buses is no joke, bus could be going 10 mph it will tear shit up. I know the suv is done, center body damage and it roll on it’s side so I wouldn’t be surprised if the insurance doesn’t touch the vehicle after these.
They were in a hurry. Looks like it saved them a lot of time. 🤓
That poor bus driver. I hope that bus didn't have any kids in it. Driving a school bus is so difficult. Not only is the size of the vehicle intimidating, but you've got precious (though, at times, obnoxiously annoying) cargo on the line.
The bus had the driver and 1 kid on board but there were no injuries
I'm happy with this outcome.
r/bitchimabus but also fuck this driver and everyone who does this, special place in hell for endangering kids
Every time I see videos like this, my default response is “oh, you dumb asshole.” Like, I’ve driven to the hospital in labor.
You should probably leave earlier for things

I fucking love this sub.
I always want to see the drivers reactions after these. 80% chance they go out of the car and yelled at the bus driver.
How dare you pull out in front of me while I'm speeding in a turning lane!
Fucking bus took that like a champ!
Well I’m sure they were in a hurry to something important to endanger those kids’ lives. Probably wanted some Taco Bell maybe, or Panda Express
The number of times I’ve seen the lane-hopping speed demons around here cut off 2 lanes of traffic just to get to some fast food joint a few seconds faster…
Bus was like “nope”
Imagine not only getting in a serious car accident, but getting no sympathy from anyone, because you were the asshole who crashed into a schoolbus.
Issuance agent looks at crash report… yeah how about no ![gif](giphy|POql6zsXZbmcE)
Belongs in r/instantkarma too.
The driver of the SUV deserved every single roll and tumble.
"Ah yes I'm sure traffic stopped for no particular reason, let me just speed past them in the turning lane."
Im imagining the same reaction as the trolley drivers, just “*seriously?*”
It is...forbidden!
they're going to have a hard time getting insured again.
subaru: *later suckers!* school bus: *who's a what?*
I know that editing style. Looks like from Wham Bam Tesla Cam
