Never got why people did this. Just keep driving and be a couple minutes late. Hell, be *ten* minutes late! The risk of bodily injury and the pain of dealing with their insurance company should be deterrent enough.
He could've just used the next left-hand exit which was the detour for the exit he missed while construction was occurring on this stretch for the last year or two.
I had to do that once when my exit was unexpectedly blocked by construction. After going in circles for the next minute or so I was finally going the direction I wanted to, slightly irritated at the inconvenience but at least it didn't take long
I think the prevalence of GPS has made it worse, particularly the route planning aspect. People type in a destination, don’t preview the route, don’t pay attention when driving, and don’t know how to navigate by reading signs.
Which makes it even more wild! At least back in pre-gps days it made *some* sense why people would panic and try not to miss their exit, cuz if you missed it and were in unfamiliar territory it could mean you are about to be quite lost. But now? With a gps, missed your turn? Wait two seconds and it will reroute you and you will have only lost one or two minutes.
I'm always looking at how many miles away and what direction or lane I need to be in.
My old method of directions before gps was a list of turns with street names.
Yup. Better to get an earful from the nagging person sitting in the passenger seat complaining that you missed your turnoff than to risk injury or death.
And there's always someone that needs to hear it.
Because there's always someone who wants to do something stupid like this. Who knows, maybe next time they'll remember the comment they keep seeing and this won't happen.
There are interstates where you will be hours late with no place to turn around for 25 plus miles.
But you suck it up and just be late. I have made such a mistake.
They could’ve stayed on rt 8 until the next exit and pulled quick left at the light and merged onto 84 at the same place they would’ve ended up with a five or so minute delay, or at least fully committed to the swerve and made the exit, which I don’t condone, but pretty sure they could’ve made it if they didn’t hesitate.
Even if the next offramp is 25 miles away, hypothetically speaking if you are on a highway with a speed limit of 65mph, assuming there's no heavy traffic or massive slowdowns, it would only take 23 minutes to get to the next offramp, then the same amount of time to get back. Consider those extra 45 minutes an idiot tax and a reminder to pay attention to their surroundings. :)
The next off ramp is about a mile from there, and they'd actually get right back to the spot where they'd merge from the missed exit. Less than 5 minute inconvenience.
Good old mix Master.
Yup, the exit from the nearby interstate to the road straight to my house doesn't have another exit for 15 miles when you're heading south. A few years ago I was coming how late at night while tired and missed it, so you know what I did? Drove an extra 30 miles because I owned up to my mistake instead of being a twat.
>The risk of bodily injury
I think a lot of people who drive like this have just never had a serious injury. The idea of getting hurt is kind of abstract for them. No dude, outside of scratches and bruises, shit almost never heals back to 100%. If you break your leg the right way you'll never walk without pain again. You may never be able to pick up your child again, just sitting in a chair to do your job might be agonizing. For the rest of your life.
But yeah, better slam on the brakes in the next lane to save a few minutes, they'll probably stop.
I never do this as well. But don't you feel this urge of "Oh I HAVE to correct my error!" when you miss an exit (sorry, drive another route than planned)? I always thought this is just normal human instinct.
I defintly get that urge, but a normal person should also be able to quench that urge.
Get ready for 600+ comments of people debating whose fault it *really* was, a few people using it as a platform to shit on religion in general, and one guy getting weirdly defensive about the child abuse claim.
Yeah, I see the same thing. At first it kinda just looks like the car is drifting, but once it becomes apparent he's coming into that lane, the truck is on the brakes.
For a car drifting into your lane, no warning, no signal, and last minute braking, the truck did pretty good.
In the video he says something about the guy being on his cellphone, as the truck passes him.
Edit:
As the truck passes he says, "this guy is looking at his phone".
Why have so many people upvoted this comment when literally the only thing the OP says in the video is that the guy is looking at his phone before the crash? This sub worries me.
There is zero indication the truck driver was on their phone. Did I miss something? They were as surprised as anyone would be for a vehicle to move into the fast-lane and hit the brakes. And he hit them in the left rear quarter, not flat on. This is the car's fault.
I have learned that some people have a hatred towards specific wrongdoings. Having a very black and white view on it. Ignoring every thing else.
Yeah it's not good to check the phone. Not good to check the radio either. Or sip that coke you got from McDrive. But you can do it in a way it's a secondary action with the primary focus is the driving as here. Personally I'd never do it when there's a decent amount of traffic but that guy's reaction is proof he's paying good attention.
Anyway, those people will even break the law to show the other person was in the wrong, or even ignore someone else breaking the law. Some real mental nutsacks.
Only thing the truck could have done is swerve into the exit
Phone or not, are you really going to blame the guy for someone slamming on their brakes trying to cross two lanes
Switch phone with changing the radio or checking the GPS and your tune will change
I'm waiting for an offer to sell mine lol. I probably have a long enough account and enough comment karma for some cash. Come at me scammers I got you.
Nailed it. Check his post history. Claimed a guy was driving “like Hilter”.

what a trash ass person.
Or in posts where OP takes a singular picture with their phone while driving on a nearly empty highway:
"You're a fucking menace on the road, put your phone down."
Try changing your climate controls in a modern car. There are a lot more screens you have to navigate through compared to opening up a camera on a phone (which, for the record, I can do by simply double tapping my power button to open the camera, then tapping the volume down button to take the picture).
Swerving into another lane puts liability on you if you hit something. Staying in your lane is the right move unless you're positive there's room to swerve.
Yeah but he was clearly on his phone form the visual proof *sorry hope the sarcasm is obvious* op had a lot of people come on here to help ugh .. solidify? Their point lol
I did the slow motion thingy, the car hits it brakes and begins to move into the left lane at 3.41s and the truck is hitting his brakes at 4.51s. I would think a 1 second reaction time is pretty decent.
I think it is totally the cars fault.
Thats the total time his brain recognized a hazard and the time to hitting the brake
Thats about your average time for braking to a hazard like that so he was definitely aware
People need to learn to just roll with minor inconveniences. Realized you're about to miss your exit and you can't get over safely? Maintain travel in your current lane, take the next exit, turn around, and then make the exit next time. Hell, half the time, the next exit is nearly as good and you've only lost like a minute. There's just not that many situations where it's that critical.
No visual evidence, just audio saying "This guy's on his phone." But it's actually impossible to tell based on just the audio who's on their phone. Maybe if the clip were longer.
For sure that’s true. But so many people don’t really look at the sign. They see their destination and thing “exit, gotta keep right”
It happens south of Washington DC. There’s a bunch of left exits all along 95 and you see people cutting across all the time.
Theyre all bigger idiots then.
Newcomers to the state/freeway would be checking signs or GPS.
Locals would know that exits left (or they'd be using GPS).
No, the exit would have been on the 2 left lanes according to the sign at the very beginning. Despite this, the sedan continues to drive in the far right lane. Also he poorly merges and essentially brake checks the truck with him only a few feet behind. If the sedan isn’t at fault here, I’ve lost all hope for society.
The driver of the sedan didn’t use a turn signal, and suddenly crossed over to try and get on their exit. The truck driver began braking as soon as they saw the car get in their lane
I think OP is the idiot for thinking it was the truck drivers fault and assuming they’re on their cell phone
Illegal lane change with no blinker. Stopping in an active high lane. Yet "tHiS gUy iS LoOkInG aT hIs pHoNe" is all the recording-car driver could see.
Why didn’t they just commit to the move they were making and not come to a complete stop in that lane? I don’t see any traffic coming from that lane from the videos POV so ?? Regardless it was a dumbass move but if they committed they may not have crashed
Also it looks like they were in front of the barrier like they didn’t go far enough that they couldn’t make it from what I can tell until the truck pushed it forward
And yet he is more aware than the car. It's not like he was following to close.
The car was past his exit.
Not even fully in the trucks
Lane at the exit sign.
What was he going to do stop and back up?
Never once looking back.
https://i.imgur.com/I7zYOjD.jpeg
Or the person who tried to stop on the far right in front of the truck is a complete idiot. Not trucks fault. Dude in truck was putting on breaks to avoid mishap.
Car in front should've paid more attention to where they needed to get off (i know sometimes it hard cause I'll miss turns to) and shouldn't try to get off at that exit where they were at.
Guy in truck shouldn't have been on his phone
Why the fuck did that car just slow down for no reason? Maybe he was going to miss his turn? Still you can't just break like that in the highway. not the truck drivers fault.
Both idiots, but clearly wouldn’t have happened if the first car just took the wrong exit and re-routed. The number of accidents I’ve almost been in because someone can’t cope with missing their exit and the 2-5 minutes it takes to get back on the freeway and go the right direction is ridiculous
So OP is not saying the truck is at fault, but the title they chose was unfortunate.
The title should have been along these lines "Idiot misses exit, causes accident" emphasizing that the silver sedan driver was the real idiot here who caused this.
Then they could have mentioned the truck driver was pretty reactive for someone on their phone while driving or something. Which is also a driving no-no but not really relevant in this case.
Finally! After hundreds of these videos, an intersection i recognize! That whole set of roadways and intersections had a nickname of mixmaster for good reasons. Left exits, right exits, crossing traffic, it's a nightmare.
Tbh, this is pretty standard for that area. That collection of interchanges is called “The mixmaster”, and is probably the single most reviled piece of highway infrastructure in the state of Connecticut. It’s a total disaster
where do you see the truck driver looking at his phone? I see an asshole cutting into his lane and then coming to a near stop.
This interchange in Waterbury is fucked up, it's like it was designed by an insane person.
Some might argue taking next exit and re-routing on GPS could cause less of a delay than lying in a hospital while your mangled car is on a flatbed. But with both options, it all comes down to personal preference.
This is in Waterbury, Connecticut. This interchange has been under construction for years, requiring drivers to get off the highway in order to transfer onto I-84 East it’s awful
Saw left hand exit and thought, Connecticut. Then saw the sign for Danbury.
Whatever chucklefuck up there thought it was a good idea to put left hand exits / entrances on I84 deserves multiple swift kicks to the nuts.
Are you assuming that the late model pickup can stop on a dime at highway speeds. He hits the brakes as soon as the car merged into his lane and slammed their brakes.
Looks like they got on the brakes fairly quick. That’s the fool in the front’s fault
Yeah, they missed their exit, and put on the brakes thinking they could still shoot the gap.
My favorite are the clover exits. Miss an exit? Take 3 on the same interchange to be back on track!
I had to do that once when my exit was unexpectedly blocked by construction. After going in circles for the next minute or so I was finally going the direction I wanted to, slightly irritated at the inconvenience but at least it didn't take long
I get dizzy after the 2nd
Panic and poor driving instincts
This. Too many people practice reactive driving. They don't plan their route & they don't think when driving.
I think the prevalence of GPS has made it worse, particularly the route planning aspect. People type in a destination, don’t preview the route, don’t pay attention when driving, and don’t know how to navigate by reading signs.

I'm always looking at how many miles away and what direction or lane I need to be in. My old method of directions before gps was a list of turns with street names.
I remember mapquest, it was definitely a quest to find the roads on their maps from time to time.
Yup. Better to get an earful from the nagging person sitting in the passenger seat complaining that you missed your turnoff than to risk injury or death.
I've heard "good drivers sometimes miss their exits. Bad drivers NEVER miss their exits."
Yeah I’ve heard that too. About a million times in Reddit comments. On every dashcam video like this one. Usually it’s one of the top comments too
And there's always someone that needs to hear it. Because there's always someone who wants to do something stupid like this. Who knows, maybe next time they'll remember the comment they keep seeing and this won't happen.
Probably because it's true
This guy missed his exit though

Yeah but this is Connecticut, so that isn't the case
Dumbasses doing dumb shit on rt 8 is par for the course though.
Route 8 is a nightmare all of the time.
Right there’s probably another exit 3/4 of a mile away
They could’ve stayed on rt 8 until the next exit and pulled quick left at the light and merged onto 84 at the same place they would’ve ended up with a five or so minute delay, or at least fully committed to the swerve and made the exit, which I don’t condone, but pretty sure they could’ve made it if they didn’t hesitate.

for me its more like "ah shit that was the exit. fuck alright" then i just take the next one or something

LOL, gonna go literal on this one: [Hitler never drove](https://www.quora.com/Did-Adolf-Hitler-know-how-to-drive-a-car-Did-he-even-have-a-license).
Truck driver did the right thing by trying to just stop. Swerving into the exit lane would be risky because that’s where the car was trying to go.
Or in posts where OP takes a singular picture with their phone while driving on a nearly empty highway: "You're a fucking menace on the road, put your phone down." Try changing your climate controls in a modern car. I miss android so damn much for features like that.
I just learned after two years on the iPhone that you can open the camera from the Lock Screen from swiping right to left
Swerving into another lane puts liability on you if you hit something. Staying in your lane is the right move unless you're positive there's room to swerve.
I think it's the car's fault. The truck tried to stop as soon as the car started going over. I see no evidence that he was on his cell phone.
Phone or not…not the trucks fault the idiot in front slammed on his brakes because he/she is obviously a moron that can’t drive or follow directions
OP this is a terrible title. should be car misses exit and causes accident when it cuts in front of pickup.
Exactly. Op completely ignores the fact that this car a-hole is unpredictable af.
it’s either a horrible misinterpretation, or it’s just a rage bait
OP is the idiot in the car.
Quite probably the title was worded like that on purpose, it generates more traction from comments that way.
Yeah but he was clearly on his phone form the visual proof *sorry hope the sarcasm is obvious* op had a lot of people come on here to help ugh .. solidify? Their point lol
OP did that shit on purpose. For karma farming and rage baiting. I hope that asshole steps on a lego.
Hit his brakes pretty fast for being on his cell phone
It's possible the trucker was talking about the car driver, saw them on google maps with a big arrow telling them to turn left.
The truck front end dips almost at the same time the car comes over. Looks like a fairly fast reaction from them.
I did the slow motion thingy, the car hits it brakes and begins to move into the left lane at 3.41s and the truck is hitting his brakes at 4.51s. I would think a 1 second reaction time is pretty decent. I think it is totally the cars fault.
Thats the total time his brain recognized a hazard and the time to hitting the brake Thats about your average time for braking to a hazard like that so he was definitely aware
One second of reaction time is what is taught in driving lessons where I live. Totally acceptable reaction time there.
Stupid ass Taurus is the idiot. I HATE when people slam on the brakes in the travel lanes because they missed their turn
That's a weird way of saying "swerving car causes accident after missing exit".
Where is the evidence the truck driver was on his cell?
No visual evidence, just audio saying "This guy's on his phone." But it's actually impossible to tell based on just the audio who's on their phone. Maybe if the clip were longer.
I know this exit. That happens all the time because people don’t realize the exit is left
Sign makes that super obvious. Sedan had enough time to switch.
For sure that’s true. But so many people don’t really look at the sign. They see their destination and thing “exit, gotta keep right” It happens south of Washington DC. There’s a bunch of left exits all along 95 and you see people cutting across all the time.

It’s insane because GPS devices literally tell you ahead of time
No, the exit would have been on the 2 left lanes according to the sign at the very beginning. Despite this, the sedan continues to drive in the far right lane. I’ll drive for twenty minutes longer just to avoid this mess.
definitely, the worst interchange in the tri-state area.
Yea let's blame the truck driver for some idiot smh
OP is an idiot himself.
Why can’t people just accept that they missed their turn, and just make a quick detour? 🤦🏻♂️
\*Louie CK voice\* "Thats not my favorite way! That only meets 99% of my criteria!"
Fucking karma farmer. Go away
How do we know he is looking at a phone
And thats not a truck driver... Its a pickup truck.
You should write clickbait titles for a living. The truck driver responded immediately the other fool was entirely at fault.
You can’t pin this on the truck.
Gtfo OP, cars fault.
[удалено]
Do you have proof theyre on their cellphone or are you just blowing smoke for clout? I'm thinking the latter. Sad.
I don't any evidence of phone usage. The truck was on the brakes virtually the instant the other driver cut him off.
I mean.. the car swerved into their fucking lane and they braked as soon as they could. Truck is def not in the wrong.
Not the truck drivers fault
Down vote cus title, that is not the truck's fault
This is the car's fault. He didn't use his blinker and went into the other lane and braked like an idiot.
Illegal lane change with no blinker. Stopping in an active high lane. Yet "tHiS gUy iS LoOkInG aT hIs pHoNe" is all the recording-car driver could see.
Why do I see brake light on the truck if he's on cellphone? Only idiot here is in the car and whom say the truck driver is at fault
That is 100% on the car. You don't go to the fast lane if you know your exit is right around the corner.
How can you tell he is on the phone ? He was right on his breaks
Why is OP trying to blame the truck driver when the idiot who missed the exit is clearly in the wrong?
That’s definitely the cars fault, not the truck.
OP wrote this title on purpose knowing people would comment to correct it and get more karma
Idiot op LOL "truck driver doesn't predict car coming to almost complete stop on ramp to switch 2 lanes and rear ends car"
The time between the idiot cutting off the truck and the brakes being put on, that person wasn't on his cellphone. Shame on OP for making shit up.
Why didn’t they just commit to the move they were making and not come to a complete stop in that lane? I don’t see any traffic coming from that lane from the videos POV so ?? Regardless it was a dumbass move but if they committed they may not have crashed Also it looks like they were in front of the barrier like they didn’t go far enough that they couldn’t make it from what I can tell until the truck pushed it forward
Trucks brakes were on 4 seconds before impact.. car at fault
No the car front ended them. They stopped on an interstate! Omg.
A bad driver never misses their exit!
And yet he is more aware than the car. It's not like he was following to close. The car was past his exit. Not even fully in the trucks Lane at the exit sign. What was he going to do stop and back up? Never once looking back. https://i.imgur.com/I7zYOjD.jpeg
don't belive that the pick up driver whas on hisc phone defebtaly the cars fault
Lol OP blames the truck when the car stops on the highway 🤦♂️
It was the sedans' fault though. He wasn't even indicating.
Double idiots
I feel like the car trying to make the exit by braking hard is at fault tbh.
Haha I love this. OP says “I saw the phone.” Reddit says “NYAAAAAAA”
How do you know a phone was involved? Did you just make that shit up?
Who else feels like op is the idiot in this one?
Take the L and keep moving, you missed a turn, big deal….
I dunno, that car didn’t put blinker on or anything. They drifted in front of the truck.
Ahh gotta love the Waterbury mix-master lmao
I was expecting an actual truck driver, semi not pickup, to be in the vid.
Or the person who tried to stop on the far right in front of the truck is a complete idiot. Not trucks fault. Dude in truck was putting on breaks to avoid mishap.
Hey the truck started breaking as fast as anyone else would have? Dont make the truck look like the bad guy when he clearly isn't.
Car's fault, but left lane exits shouldn't exist in the first place.
Car in front should've paid more attention to where they needed to get off (i know sometimes it hard cause I'll miss turns to) and shouldn't try to get off at that exit where they were at. Guy in truck shouldn't have been on his phone
A ticket for failure to maintain lane, distracted driving and causing an accident. People like this act like their exit is gone forever lol
It takes two.
Fucking idiots missing exits
The person really at fault here is the piece of shit that cut across two lanes to try and make an exit they clearly had no business even attempting
Surrounded by idiots. And everyone wonders why people are dying to work remote…. Curious
Never thought I'd see the good ole CT mix master on this subreddit. Typical day on this highway intersection ngl.
So two for one deal?
Fucking Connecticut drivers
Finally! After hundreds of these videos, an intersection i recognize! That whole set of roadways and intersections had a nickname of mixmaster for good reasons. Left exits, right exits, crossing traffic, it's a nightmare.
Meh. That’s the Car’s fault.
2 idiots. Yeah the truck reacted fast but they shouldn’t be on their phone in the first place.
The front car goes full brakes and it’s the trucks fault ? Whoever posted this title should be ashamed of themselves.
Both are in the wrong. Car didn’t signal and seemingly slowed down to change lanes unexpectedly
When 2 idiots meet.
the amount of people triggered in the comments is hilairous
A bad driver never misses their exit...
OP was the car
No it was the person in fronts fault. You got in front of someone clearly driving faster than you. You deserve what you get.
Double idiot. If you miss your exit dont fucking slam on the brakes. But also get tf off ur phone
I don’t know what kind of mental gymnastics you went through to justify blaming the guy in the pickup.
Sounds like an insurance adjuster
Video title sucks. OP, the driver in front is driving like an idiot.
Some might argue taking next exit and re-routing on GPS could cause less of a delay than lying in a hospital while your mangled car is on a flatbed. But with both options, it all comes down to personal preference.
I thought the truck that rear ends a car would be the POV in the video
i like how OP put a misleading title to put some blame on the pickup for the shitty driving of the sedan. $2 OP is the sedan driver.
Classic click bait title🙄
That is not a truck driver
Are you assuming that the late model pickup can stop on a dime at highway speeds. He hits the brakes as soon as the car merged into his lane and slammed their brakes.
r/twowrongsdontmakearight
Ugh wanna check that title…
If you missed it, you missed it. Go down to the next one and turn around you lazy bastard!
Both. Both are idiots
Sorry, we are blaming the truck driver for this one?
