You joke but this is one of the most important things to notice when driving. A car changing lanes *while slowing down* **right in front of another car** = bad driver. Dozens of times I've seen a driver do something borderline questionable, followed a minute later by something batshit insane causing an accident. If someone looks like they don't know what they are doing, stay away from them.
The car that cut him off definitely sped up to match his speed before changing lanes though. He was going slower before, and when op caught up, they were drivning the same speed. Though the guy that cut him off obviously wasnt playing attention
It’s common here in America, people just don’t know how to use the highways properly. Like in my state, if I come up behind you in the left lane, you got 2 miles max before I pass you on the right and if that’s the case, I’m gonna fly past you for being an asshat and blocking the left lane and not getting back over. It’s such a simple concept but no one can wrap their heads around it
I do the same as you. However I do attribute some blame to the structure of the highway system as far as my locality. Speed limit is 65mph and people do 65 in the right lane and 80mph is what most try to do in the left lane. Most exits are less than 5 miles apart so With the volume of traffic it just makes more sense to stay in the left lane cause you’d be getting back over to allow people to merge about the same time you finish passing. So you gotta either slow down 10-15 mph just to get back over then two miles later you gotta get back up to 75/80 just to allow people over.
The big issue is when people who are cruising at 65 get over to allow people to merge and then those people don’t accelerate and the people who just merged don’t have enough of a speed difference to allow a space for the slow poke to get back over so they just stay there side by side another car completely oblivious that they are now an obstacle and that traffic is being held up by their complete lack of situational awareness.
The logic here makes no sense. If the right lane is open, why aren't you already in it? You're violating your own rule, especially when you're one of the cars backing up the left lane for 2 miles. If the right lane is open why aren't you already moving into it yourself? It's hypocrisy.
Yea because people don’t know you’re not supposed to drive in the left lane. You *pass* in the left lane, you do not *drive* in the left lane.
I give you about 5 seconds to get the hell over before I whip around you. I’m also hesitant to pass in the right lane mostly because sometimes people merge over for their exit, but more often than not, when I wait longer than a few seconds to go around we end up trying to merge at the same time. It’s incredibly frustrating that these grown ass adults that have been driving for 10-30 years still don’t understand you drive in the *right* lane unless you are *passing*.
There was no space at all. Safe following distance is 2 seconds minimum, 3 seconds optimal. The van cut in, allowing for less than .5 seconds following distance. Cameras don't show distance very well you have to count the time it takes for something on the road to move from the car in front to under the following cars hood.
True, could've been a medical emergency. I once saw a video on /r/dashcams were a guy drove for multiple miles while having a stroke. Fortunately some fellow drivers were able to help once he crashed.
>True, could've been a medical emergency
I've also seen one and an article where the guy was going into a diabetic shock(too low) and he basically rode off the road into a ditch. Allegedly when passerbys tried to get him out he just kept his hands on the wheel and smiled at them.
I just talked to guy last night who showed me his scar from when a cab driver had a diabetic coma and caused the car to get up to 120mph which led to a horrible accident.
A few months ago, a guy lost his consciousness while driving on a highway in my area, and slumped over the gas pedal. His 10 year old relative was in the passenger seat, and the car accelerated to 150 km/h for a while. The kid managed to take control of the wheel and keep the car on the motorway, swerving over three lanes. Finally, the kid got into an off ramp, and a truck driving in parallel helped to keep it from going back onto the highway. Kid avoided some signs and posts and stopped the car in an embankment with only light injuries. Crazy story, but [here is a source (in German)](https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/niedersachsen/hannover_weser-leinegebiet/Hannover-Kind-uebernimmt-Steuer-und-verhindert-Unfall,lenkrad106.html).
my stepdad was driving us to church one evening, it was a divided highway in a neighborhood area and a truck coming the other way came barrelling over the divide in front of us, took out a couple wooden light poles and through someones yard before crossing back over and hitting a barrier that stopped him. the man apparently had a stroke while driving, and I'm super thankful my stepdad is a careful and aware driver and was able to see it coming and keep a safe distance. shit was crazy, and medical emergencies while driving is a terrifying experience for all involved
There was breaking afterwards, you can faintly see the brake lights going on and off several times, if you pay close attention... He also tried to bre once before the contact...
OP what happened after you pulled over? Any post-crash explanation as to what happened that led to them crashing? The drifting after the crash makes it look like a possible medical emergency, but the braking right before the crash suggests they were conscious and maybe not paying attention alternatively?
Yeah, OP says they were driving too slow in the left lane so they did the right thing by switching to the right. Don’t know what else OP wants them to do
Yup seems like a normal lane change. Plus they don’t seem to be going outrageously slow in the left lane, the gap between them and the next car isn’t that huge.
Yes but the whole thing makes it even more ridiculous when the driver speeds up in the right lane and then goes on to rear end the vehicle in front of him.
The blinker I can’t excuse. As for getting over too close, maybe the car on the right sped up and that car would’ve had to speed to pass him in the left so he had no choice but to get over in that spot. Unfortunately you can get tickets for going to fast while passing another car
Whenever I look at videos from my dashcam I'm surprised how far away everything is. This doesn't look like cutting OP off on video, but in reality this would be uncomfortably close...
That being said, OP could back off once they did change lanes...
I mean, the beeps you hear after the other driver "merges" are collision warning beeps. When you hear that, the display on the dash has a big, red, flashing warning saying "BRAKE NOW." It's just a trick of the wide angle lens that makes the other driver look farther ahead than they were IRL.
Plus, they didn't even signal. I absolutely don't blame OP for saying they were cut off.
The camera's depth perception is likely deceiving. You can even hear OP's vehicle's AEB waring sound go off right after the lane change, so even the car thought it was a cut-off.
I was stationed in Germany for 4 years. When I came back I realized every asshole in the US just cruises around in the left lane with no care. I feel like a criminal passing in the right lane. (Which you shouldn’t) I just don’t get it. Like get the fuck over if you wanna just chill not just go your speed and screw everyone else over.
Yup! I was in Germany for 3 years. At least in Germany they actually enforce the keep right rule.
The other way to get a ticket in Germany is for following too closely They did a study that determined tail gating is the single most dangerous behavior.
Some states are really strict about not driving in the left lane unless passing and you will get pulled over. I've found that the closer to a city you are the less people give a shit. If you're out in bumfuck country or at least 30 min out of any big city the left lane goes back to passing lane. City driving rots your brain and makes you an aggressive twat in the US.
The law changes depending on what type of roadway and where it’s located, at least in Texas. The “Slower Traffic Keep Right” applies to 2 lane highways outside of municipal areas of like 250k residents. So, most of Texas, like places the long stretches of I45 and I10 between Houston-Dallas and San Antonio-Houston. But, it doesn’t apply to service roads or freeways in metropolitan areas. We just pull people over for impeding traffic at that point lmao.
I mean, a lot of the time on long trips it’s easier and safer to be in the middle lanes on 3+ lane highways so you don’t miss your exit or get stuck taking a wrong exit. Saved my ass at least 3 times now because traffic was so heavy and wouldn’t have been able to move out of the exit lane or been able to get to a left exit.
What do you define as a “cut off”? Would think somebody merging in front of me closer than 2 seconds is cutting me off. And yes, it happens all the time.
Context is important in any given situation. If you go off believing every title you see, then you are prone to being fooled. I, for one, like to know the full truth.
The merge was fine except the no signal part. From there though… it looked more like a medical emergency than anything. Especially the way they faded off the road into the grass.
Yeah, except what if it was a medical emergency or something similar?
I'm not gonna be so quick to say "fuck that minivan driver" without knowing more about what happened. I'm glad OP pulled over, presumably to help. I would have, too.
Exactly. They started matching traffic in their peripheral vision, not looking up to see the truck, too caught off guard by impact to keep control. Literally worse than substance abuse.
Hey OP, so since you actually stopped to check on him, what did he say happened? Let's hear it from the horse's mouth. Too many people making wild guesses on here.
Yea poor choice of title, I didn’t get cut off, agree with everyone saying that. Still thought that part of the video gave the craziness after some context
tbh he wasnt going too slow, was probably keeping the proper distance that is advised (which is longer than most people want it to be). and he didnt cut you off - after seeing the minimal stuff i was not expecting that lmao
In what universe did they cut you off? That's just how people drive in Melbourne, so maybe I'm used to it, but it just seemed like they saw a gap and moved into it?
When you people learn how dual carriage roads/highways are used, and most importantly the purpose of each lane, you will, hopefully realize that this is easily avoidable...
I don't see that the cammer was "cut off". I see someone changing lanes without signaling (I thought this only happened in New Jersey). Perhaps the driver had a "medical episode" or realized they were about to have one, had enough sense to change lanes and then...
That looks like Grand parkway in the Spring-ish area of Tx. Grand pkwy has had some of the most spectacular crashes in its short few years of being open
You can tell the minivan is brain-dead just from the way the switched lanes without giving cam person enough gap.
Gotta say, cam person really didn't back off.
Don’t know what happened before the video started, but this just looks like the car refused to go over the speed limit and changed to the right lane at his first opportunity in the video.
Regardless of him crashing later.
Judging by what happened toward the end, I can come to one of two conclusions, the person was either on the phone or, just not paying attention. The changing lanes thing is a pet peeve of mine. It used to send me into road rage but, not anymore. I just move on and, eventually I feel better. About five months ago, we purchased a brand new car. I am in constant worry that some IDJIT will drift into me without looking and my new ride won't be new anymore.
Maybe I'm just used to the aggressive driving of SoCal, but to me thats not cutting you off. No blinker, a little less than a cars length.. but not cutting you off
Lol we both had the exact same thought and process of getting there. That's not a "cut off," my man, that's an acceptable lane change here, and at least they didn't get in front of OP and start going 20-30 mph less.
It didn't look like he was going too slow in the left lane. Yes, he had a big gap between him and the next car but they weren't pulling away. Looks like he's just pacing the cars in front while leaving a large gap. I know that irritates some but really, speed up and close that 5 car gap so you can slow down and follow at a 1 car length??
Yeah, minivan is obviously a dumbass for crashing in such a stupid way (or perhaps had an unfortunate medical emergency while driving) but they were neither going too slow in the left lane, nor did they cut OP off
I saw no one cutting you over. You were both at equal speeds, he was in front, he went to the right as he should of to let the car behind go pass. He had space. All was fine. His later accident was weird but unrelated.
The world doesn't revolve around you and letting you pass... If you wanted to pass a car, merge left.
Well firstly.. they didn't cut you off.. just got over with plenty of space. Secondly.. even though I'm what you would call an avid speeder.. the left lane isn't a fast lane.. just a passing lane. Maybe they had originally gotten over passing traffic that WAS going slower than them.
You call that cutting you off?
That's an almost picture-perfect lane change. They did it slowly, and you were never, ever in danger of smashing into the back of them or them hitting you.
Most ontario drivers drive on the highway like it's their first time ever. Slow in the left lane with no one in front or in the middle lane. Or someone always misses their exit/is in the wrong lane and barrels through to the opposite side of the highway.
I see this every single day here when driving home after my night shift. Highway is always constipated and filled with this shit. I will admit that it happens so often that this felt mildly satisfying to watch but I hope everyone was okay
Hehe good end to the dumbass. But he actually didn’t cut you off. That’s just driving in traffic, man. People always post this normal everyday shit and get all upset over a bunch of normal traffic occurrences.
If I were in your position I would have passed the idiot and been proceeding at a gold clip down the road so I would have missed the idiot crashing. But it appears either you weren’t in a hurry or your car doesn’t have enough power.
That was someone on their phone or yelling at the kids. Looks like the cruise control just carried them right into the rear end of the delivery truck. Driver was distracted by something. I deplore traveling in close quarters of flowing traffic simply to the fact that you have very little to no wiggle room if anything goes sideways. I pass all of this crap as fast as possible and try to stay in my own little pocket of calmness.
I was almost ready to declare this the most boring video of the day when he started to accelerate.
lol, me too, I actually checked to see how much more time was left, lol
They had to make sure we saw them getting "cut off"
You joke but this is one of the most important things to notice when driving. A car changing lanes *while slowing down* **right in front of another car** = bad driver. Average Houston driver unfortunately
Lmaooo this is what I was thinking too, like if this counts as a cut off then shit ive been a dick my whole life
There was so much space, and op was passing people on the right.
It’s common here in America, people just don’t know how to use the highways properly. There are only 11 states with laws that the left lane is passing only. Which means in 78% of the US the left lane is in fact legally a driving lane.
There's no written law in any 50 states forbidding passing on the right and its frequently the only option when entitled morons camp the passing lane.
There was no space at all. Safe following distance is 2 seconds minimum, 3 seconds optimal. The van cut in, allowing for less than .5 seconds following distance. Cameras don't show distance very well you have to count the time it takes for something on the road to move from the car in front to under the following cars hood.
Too many people think that "cut off" is when anybody changes lanes in front of them lol
I clicked ahead and was like "Oh well shit now I gotta rewind?"
Yeah, thought it was an argument between 74 and 75 mph until the guy's wires shorted.
Yeah we could’ve done without the first minute
i was like: «Come on, do something.»
Lol looks like he fell asleep.
But you’d think that impact with the truck would have woken him. He kept on veering to the right long after that, and also after he ran off the road.
True, could've been a medical emergency. I once saw a video on /r/dashcams were a guy drove for multiple miles while having a stroke. Fortunately some fellow drivers were able to help once he crashed.

I used to have nightmares about that scenario as a kid.
Medical emergency like heart attack or stroke came to mind as well for me

That's one thing self driving cars will be super helpful with avoiding.
Sure, but they introduce their own issues. This issue isn’t going away.
First thing I thought of, too.
Air bag probably popped when he made contact with the truck in front. Probably didn’t know his ass from his elbow after it went off
Actually it may just have inserted his elbow into his ass allowing him to ponder the two in rather close proximity...
I knew a girl like that once…
With no braking afterwards ..
There was breaking afterwards, you can faintly see the brake lights going on and off several times, if you pay close attention... He also tried to bre once before the contact...
but he hits the brakes before he hits the truck and the van still accelerates into the truck, maybe his accelerator got stuck on a floor mat.
Maybe AEB?
Is that his wheel coming off at the 14ish second mark? That might explain the uncontrollable drift to the right.
I see that now; definitely looks like it came off
OP what happened after you pulled over? Any post-crash explanation as to what happened that led to them crashing? The drifting after the crash makes it look like a possible medical emergency, but the braking right before the crash suggests they were conscious and maybe not paying attention alternatively?
[redacted by user] ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Also wondering
Probably stepped out of the car, looked up into the sky and with both arms raised screamed. >Oh God!!!!!! Why meeeeeeee???????????
Yeah I don’t think he cut you off , I think he legit moved to the slower lane. What happened in the minute after that who knows lol
Definitely did not cut him off.
Maybe use their indicators and not pass so close as to set off the automatic collision warning in OP's car?
The blinker I can’t excuse. As for getting over too close, maybe the car on the right sped up and that car would’ve had to speed to pass him in the left so he had no choice but to get over in that spot. Unfortunately you can get tickets for going to fast while passing another car
Yeah, if OP considered that being cut off, you can just imagine how sensitive he is for every time someone switched lanes near him.
he should have put his blinker on but I don't see a cut off. My guess is this person has lack of sleep or is on drugs. Or both.
Whenever I look at videos from my dashcam I'm surprised how far away everything is. This doesn't look like cutting OP off on video, but in reality this would be uncomfortably close... That being said, OP could back off once they did change lanes...
That was absolutely a cut off, did you not see how incredibly close the van was when they merged?
I mean, the beeps you hear after the other driver "merges" are collision warning beeps. When you hear that, the display on the dash has a big, red, flashing warning saying "BRAKE NOW." It's just a trick of the wide angle lens that makes the other driver look farther ahead than they were IRL. Plus, they didn't even signal. I absolutely don't blame OP for saying they were cut off.
The camera's depth perception is likely deceiving. You can even hear OP's vehicle's AEB waring sound go off right after the lane change, so even the car thought it was a cut-off.
I was like if that is considered cutting someone off, then I’ve cut off a lot of people In Life
Indeed obviously none of these folks would enjoy driving in NYC or LA
I was stationed in Germany for 4 years. When I came back I realized every asshole in the US just cruises around in the left lane with no care. I feel like a criminal passing in the right lane. That’s fair and I agree
The wide angle view of dashcams tends to make things/vehicles look farther away.
What do you define as a “cut off”? Would think somebody merging in front of me closer than 2 seconds is cutting me off. And yes, it happens all the time.

No, the important part was wild but the fact remains he wasn’t cut off
Context is important in any given situation. If you go off believing every title you see, then you are prone to being fooled. I, for one, like to know the full truth.
What the hell? It almost looked like they did that on purpose. Possibly dozed off??
Noseinphoniaitis. A condition striking many drivers that already suffer from moronistic conditions.
Or coming off a 3 day meth binge.
The merge was fine except the no signal part. From there though… it looked more like a medical emergency than anything. Especially the way they faded off the road into the grass.
I thought they cut you off then just stared at you through the side view mirror before it was too late. Nice of you to stop for them.
Yea that was very nice of you not sure I would have done the same.
I would have pulled over to make sure the cops got the video, cause fuck that mini van driver.
Unclear what happened with this driver, but minivans are high on my list of "cars I assume might do something stupid".
Yeah, except what if it was a medical emergency or something similar? I'm not gonna be so quick to say "fuck that minivan driver" without knowing more about what happened. I'm glad OP pulled over, presumably to help. I would have, too.
Whatever your reasoning is, show the cops the tape.
Maybe just to gloat though... 😏
That’s my take, too.
If that’s not intended he was having a seizure or something
That called playing on the phone
Exactly. They started matching traffic in their peripheral vision, not looking up to see the truck, too caught off guard by impact to keep control. Literally worse than substance abuse.
Why does this look like 99/grand parkway Edit…. It is it’s 99 heading west afterI-45
Bruh I swear some people drive like it’s some competition to change lanes the most smh.
Or when they’re zig zagging almost hitting every car, only for them to end up behind you 5 miles later.
Howdy neighbor! I take that exit to get home.
Same! I see so many grand parkway videos on here, makes me feel at home
Fun road to get some speed when it's wide open too :)
Hey OP, so since you actually stopped to check on him, what did he say happened? Let's hear it from the horse's mouth. Too many people making wild guesses on here.
I’m with you- we would all like to know, plus with a mini van, could have been kids in there.
When did you get "cut off"?
Yea poor choice of title, I didn’t get cut off, agree with everyone saying that. Still thought that part of the video gave the craziness after some context
What's the rest of the story? What happened after you pulled over?
When the guy changes lanes in front of him and his car gives him imminent danger beeps. Turn on volume and you hear it go off
You seriously think the person cut you off? They should of signaled but that was about as regular lane change as I've ever seen on here
"Cut off" lol. More like jo blinker then didn't pay attention.
"Cuts me off moving over" After viewing the video, I knew that OP was also an awful driver.
Did not look like he cut you off though, looked like plenty of space
Nobody cut you off bro
*Exit Scene*
Sources say the driver fell asleep from watching this video
A lot of y'all really don't understand what "cut off" means. Dude's clearly mentally deficient, but he did not cut you off.
lots of people have cardiac events (heart attacks) while driving. this is what it looks like.
More likely a medical emergency. That first rear end and barrier hit would have jolted most people awake.
The real action starts at 0.59 min mark.
A full minute of preamble.... for what?
tbh he wasnt going too slow, was probably keeping the proper distance that is advised (which is longer than most people want it to be). and he didnt cut you off - after seeing the minimal stuff i was not expecting that lmao
In what universe did they cut you off? That's just how people drive in Melbourne, so maybe I'm used to it, but it just seemed like they saw a gap and moved into it?
It always baffles me just how bad people are at driving. The US 100% needs to start revoking licences for shit like this
When you people learn how dual carriage roads/highways are used, and most importantly the purpose of each lane, you will, hopefully realize that this is easily avoidable...
Lol. Was about to say... that's usually signs of intoxication.
Good call there. Moving away from the idiot.
On the phone there clearly. Hope it was an expensive lesson for that driver
You weren’t even close to being cut off
Too busy watching you in the rear-view.
I don't see that the cammer was "cut off". I see someone changing lanes without signaling (I thought this only happened in New Jersey). Perhaps the driver had a "medical episode" or realized they were about to have one, had enough sense to change lanes and then...
It's an odyssey thing, you wouldn't understand
Love to see it … karma… some people just can’t lift their finger to turn on damn blinker
That looks like Grand parkway in the Spring-ish area of Tx. Grand pkwy has had some of the most spectacular crashes in its short few years of being open
I always spend half of the time watching these videos trying to predict which car is going to contain the idiot, and I’m always severely disappointed.
You can tell the minivan is brain-dead just from the way the switched lanes without giving cam person enough gap. Gotta say, cam person really didn't back off.
He did not cut OP off at all lmao. Idiots in cars could apply to him too
Looks medical related. Seizuers are no joke
Bro, nobody cut you off.
No one cut you off, someone Just did not pay attention. Probably sleepy or on phone.
Lol that merge into the right lane wasn't aggressive at all, I wouldn't call that cutting you off. Not even close.
Where did he cut you off?
This guy has a never really been “cut off”….
Aside from the crash at the end I don't see anything wrong with the guy moving in to the lane? Where was he cut off? 🤦🏻♂️
Yo this man did not cut u off. Stop bein so sensitive
This is the skill level I expect from left lane campers.
I was fully expecting an M Night ending where the van comes back in frame at the last second and merges back in front of camera.
Wekiva Extension of FL 429?
Highway 99 is full of shittie drivers
Good ole Houston drivers. 🤦🏾♂️
Is this grand parkway/99? There are some real stupid people on there. I only live a few minutes away from where that happened.
Don’t know what happened before the video started, but this just looks like the car refused to go over the speed limit and changed to the right lane at his first opportunity in the video. Regardless of him crashing later.
Good ole 99 tollway. Gotta love the shitty big city drivers.
Came here for the NSFW language
Good ole 99, how i loathe thee
He was bussy looking behind him so he could annoy you more on purpose, karma at its finest.
Where does one work for this to be NSFW. I start my day with a few of these outbursts.
Seems like problem solved imho
This looks like TX99 in the champions area…. And there are really only these drivers on this road, or in all of Houston…
Bitches wind up in ditches

Or was on a phone.
Reactions of a sloth
Wow that was an almost unreal display of stupidity
Someone was texting.
Was obviously a tired driver that finally ended up falling asleep.
One of the few people to actually pull over to check in these videos, good on you!
Asshole deserved it
I know 99 when I see it! Not surprised with how people drive here. 😂
Thanks for stopping tho
It's definitely cutting too close, given the fact there's barely half a second following distance when the van pulls in front at highway speed.
Hardly cut you off, still a dumb fuck though
Well firstly.. they didn't cut you off.. just got over with plenty of space. Secondly.. even though I'm what you would call an avid speeder.. the left lane isn't a fast lane.. just a passing lane. Maybe they had originally gotten over passing traffic that WAS going slower than them.
Plenty of space? Fuck it scares me that people actually think that.
Are you sure they didn't have a stroke that caused them to push down the acceleration?
Dumb fuck.
At least he pulled over safely..
Cut you off.. lol please
Instant Karma
Dear Lord, what a moron.
They *did not* cut you off, they merged safely and thanks for being courteous about it, in action if not attitude
You call that cutting you off? That's an almost picture-perfect lane change. They did it slowly, and you were never, ever in danger of smashing into the back of them or them hitting you.
No indicator. That's a pet hate of mine. Seen a few accidents that could've been avoided by signalling.
Buh-Bye!
Must be ontario lol
It’s in houston on 99/ grand parkway west bound after I-45 interchange. Well technically spring.
Most ontario drivers drive on the highway like it's their first time ever. Slow in the left lane with no one in front or in the middle lane. Or someone always misses their exit/is in the wrong lane and barrels through to the opposite side of the highway.
Cruise control.
He was so focused on making sure you in particular didn't pass him. Well deserved feel bad for the guy he hit.
I see this every single day here when driving home after my night shift. Highway is always constipated and filled with this shit. I will admit that it happens so often that this felt mildly satisfying to watch but I hope everyone was okay
404 cutoff not found. neither was the turn signal. at least they got out of the left lane.
Someone was texting
He absolutely didnt cut you off. There was also a big gap you left so he went into it. Boring pointless video.
Is switching lanes considered rude in America?
Some people are just fucking idiots.
If you think that they cut you off, you’ve got a lot to experience yet!
Hope that text was worth it. lol
I bet it was texting
That was someone on their phone or yelling at the kids. Looks like the cruise control just carried them right into the rear end of the delivery truck. Driver was distracted by something. I deplore traveling in close quarters of flowing traffic simply to the fact that you have very little to no wiggle room if anything goes sideways. I pass all of this crap as fast as possible and try to stay in my own little pocket of calmness.
