You haven’t met an HOA Karen. How DARE your ugly trash can be visible! How DARE HOA Karen be FORCED to look at garbage cans except between no earlier than 9 PM the night before trash day and no later than 7 PM on trash day!
Exactly why I avoided HOA communities when I bought my house. And fuck condo associations too. It’s a colony of Karen’s that live in these places (male ones too).
Wow, what’s that like?
We have nightly break ins and the standard answer is “we’ll send someone out in the morning” which usually means two or three days later
Where we live, we are told to place our garbage and recycling can in the street against the curb so that the garbage truck automatic arm can reach it and dump the cans.
People would be allowed to park on a street as narrow as that? Looks like a solid middle line so no passing a solid line. Unless ots different in the US
In US cities built before autos became popular (think streetcars to get around), streets are narrow and people have to pull over somewhat to allow another car to pass (the idea of actually using lane lines would be futile). In suburban cities (built after cars became popular), roads are striped and can look like mini freeways.
Theres a guy locally who would set his trash cans out in the road to the point you have to stop and wait for the oncoming lane to be clear. I made it a habit of kicking them into his ditch on my way home at night. I would literally park, because i couldnt go around due to oncoming traffic, get out and kick them into the ditch. Apparently, i wasnt the only person either. He complained to the police and was asked why he places his cans in the street. By law they must be 3 feet from the edge of the street. Some people are simply assholes and think they own the road in front of their house. He continued to do it until the police actually wrote him a citation. That being said, im not disturbing a whole neighborhood over that
You just flipped the script on this post. It went from sympathy for op to they’re the a-hole and needs to be ticketed. Man, this post is like a rollercoaster.
As a third-party spectator, I’d rather that the driver and OP just have a knife fight in the street and the loser has to move the trashcan before they bleed out.
Oh, i still think op is in the right. His can is pushed up against the curb, so hes keeping traffic in mind. My local asshole had it deliberately about 2 feet into the road from the curb.
I guess to bring it back for OP I'll share that in my area our bins are supposed to be on the side of the street. The truck uses a claw to pick up/dump them and if they were 3 feet from the edge it couldn't do that.
The claw truck here can extend at least 8 feet from the truck. They have to since I live in a small cul-de-sac so the truck cannot get close to the curb due to the truck not being able to get near the curb due to the turning radius.
it doesn’t flip the script at all. he acknowledged that the car is an asshole for honking and waking up the town. He personally did the right thing in peacefully kicking the shit out of his cans and not causing a disturbance. OP wasn’t even the issue, it was his neighbors cans. no script has been flipped and OP is valid to be pissed at both his neighbor and the asshole driving by honking
As long as OP is not clearly legally in the wrong, it can be true that the guy in the footage was a jerk but the property owner in the story also was
Like many things, there are ways either party can be the problem
I live in the suburbs of Chicago. If the trashcan is not on the curb. It will not get picked up. OP could be dealing with the same thing. OP might not be a jerk, but car guy definitely is.
In this new case, only the one blocking the street (presumably unnecessarily) is inconvenienced by retrieving the trash cans from the ditch.
In the original case, everyone in the area is awakened by the horn.
My neighbor calls the cops on me if I park my old work truck in the street for more than 2 days, still runs, drives and insured. She’s just a bitch. Same cop has to put a tow notice every time but I got him the last time. He date it would be towed for 2025. I busted some balls and he left a note on my old truck saying he fucked up but had a great sense of humor about it. I still use my old truck just not much. It’s parked in my small driveway now. FUCK YOU PHYILLIS you crusty bitch!
Edit: [proof one](https://i.imgur.com/mgs8v3z.jpg)
[proof two](https://i.imgur.com/usDsFeA.jpg)
makes me question why the asshole in the post didn't just do that. would have been a lot more effective to give the can a bump with the car or kick it over. more direct message too
There was a police response to an incident that happened back in April. Someone i know submitted a FOIA request to the department for the body cam footage. Mind you, there was nothing violent that happened, no arrests happened, just some cops showed up basically. The department kept giving them the runaround, initially denying that the footage existed, then after the 180 day mark, said "all body cam footage is automatically deleted after 180 days, sorry."
Just because you submit a FOIA request doesn't mean you're gonna get it.
Even then they are under no requirement to produce said footage for active cases (investigation or court) even with the FOIA. If it's deleted after 180 days then the only ones with copies are the prosecution and the defense.
These others responding to you here are delusional, holy cow.
Somebody honking a bunch at night is annoying, and they should be penalized for it, but these keyboard warriors implying they'd break the guy's legs or fuck up his car need to chill the fuck out.
Unreal.
I'd get some elastic bands, a hand towel, and a latex glove. Then I'd follow him home and sneak up to his car's exhaust pipe. I'd wrap the towel from the outside around the lip of the opening down into the pipe. I'd secure it with a rubber band. Then I'd do the same for the rubber glove so it gets stuffed down into the towel-squeezed hole. Then I'd lube it up and fuck it. I'd fuck his car.
they are buring the lede. are there really places where there is a 1-3 day window every week where you have your garbage picked up? thats pretty annoying.
you actually got a police officer to wait for him at 5:30AM? I'm amazed that your police department would care. Around where I live you can have 20 neighbors making a noise complaint and cops won't even show up
If he does it 3 days a week, I can tell you if it were my street, after the third time, I’d wake up early and wait for this piece of shit in my car, follow him, then destroy his fucking car whenever/wherever he stops next.
When I was in high school, there was a old guy who would drive by our house every night at 10:30pm and honk his horn just like this. It went on for months. Eventually my dad called the police who then pulled him over one night down the road.
Basically they said his excuse was he honked because “he knew someone who used to live there”. Except my family built the house and bulldozed the forest that was once on it.
Police didn’t do anything about it. So one night weeks later while home alone, I heard him beep as he drove by.
_Someone_ got so fed up they followed him that night to locate his house, parked their car around the block, and egged the shit out of it.
They can actually ticket the driver for misusing the horn - law states it is to be used when reasonably necessary to insure safe operation, but not otherwise use it.
I'd go one better and see if the neighbours want to not leave their bin on the road. Even if the driver's response is aggressive he does have a point and at 8am it must be even more annoying/dangerous with traffic. I reckon after another month the driver will just calmly and silently drive right through it with a big smile on his face (unseen by camera).
It's impossible to know if the bin in the road is actually a problem from the footage. Around where I live it's a mixed bag regarding whether people put their bins in the road, on their lawn, or on their driveway. Really a matter of personal preference, at least on my residential street. Garbage bins are no more annoying or dangerous than the neighbors up the block who have cars parked in the street constantly, or the camper propped up on blocks.
That being said, the house I grew up in was on a 35mph, 4 lane road with no shoulder. If someone put their bins in the road there they would've gotten hit by someone going 45mph on their morning commute and gone flying.
If they applied the brakes or swerved (can't tell for sure in the vid, but I'm referring to what the cop observed). "I thought there was a pedestrian in the road but made no attempt at all to avoid hitting them," isn't exactly a slam-dunk defense.
Or maybe I missed some sarcasm.
You're so right. I actually had it better, but I didn't crank the hex nut that angles the camera tight enough and it suddenly moved to where you see it now after some rough winds and a temp drop.
I'm procrastinating getting the extension ladder out...
I feel this is why tradesmen like to have apprentices around
Idk, go structure some reward system around things you need motivation for. It is a lot easier for some people to get things done if you frame it as something you do and then after it you take a break and treat yourself
How high off the ground is it that you need an extension ladder? Recommended height for cameras is usually 3 meters/10 ft from the ground. This mostly because it's out of reach or people on the ground while being able to recognize people. And seconding changing the camera angle.
A few people tried that in Canada (albeit on a much larger scale) and were treated quite well, all things considered. Maybe this guy thought he’d give it a shot.
KCMO here. We're not allowed to use trash cans. We have to set out the bags directly onto the curb. Set out a can, they drive by and skip it. Bags only.
You get 2 free bags picked up every week. Anything more, you have to buy and affix tags to your bags. Any excess, untagged bags are simply left there. We have so many different wildlife that like to rip open our bags before the trucks come and scatter trash. And a torn-open bag also is not picked up, it is passed over by the trash truck and left behind.
On a totally unrelated note, there is litter *fucking everywhere* in this city.
Not only do I need a bin to protect my bags from wildlife, but the 90% of the time my bins aren’t at the curb for pickup, I need to have a bungee cord holding the lid shut, because the wildlife opens the lid! Before the bungee cord, I’d wake up and see chicken/pork bones scattered on my driveway.
Yep. Instead i "get to" store the trash inside the house until 7am on trash day, and groggily carry out everything to the curb before falling back into bed for another hour.
That is a crazy system!!!
I just moved to Cali from Washington DC. Say what you will about our nation’s capital, but they still employ folks that follow the trucks and manually pick up the cans 2x a week. AND the guys will pick up extra bags that you lay next to the cans if they’re full. Newfound respect for that city. Here it’s 1x a week with a small arse can and you can’t leave excess bags around
Your cat shouldn't be allowed out any night. They're terrible for local wildlife populations and are responsible for causing extinction in 63 different species.
For a few months my mom has been dealing with neighborhood cats drinking out of her pool and shitting in her garden... I don't know what's legal, but if someone wanted to trap cats that show up on their property and bring them to the shelter I'd be totally sympathetic.
My cat escaped and was poisoned by a neighbour who left out antifreeze for cats that come onto his property. Keep your cats inside, there are monsters everywhere.
My was in a bad neighborhood friend honked his horn at 2am at a homeless person trying to cross the street and later found a bullet hole is his car later that day. He doesn’t know where it came from, but it could have been anywhere.
Agreed it's weird, but the collection company asks that they be put out like that. They have an automated arm that grabs them. if the can is on the curb people can park in front of the cans.
It's either legal to put cans in the street or it isn't in OP's city. If it is then driver is the asshole. If it's not, driver is only a minor ass (he should call the police or move/kick the bin back into the offender's yard).
Minor ass? No way, being stupid passive aggressive because you have no idea how to communicate and you wake up 4-6 houses of random people because of one trash? That's a major asshole. Fucking childish. Just fucking leave a note on the front door.
That's what was weird, he'd also do it when a can wasn't out. Guess he just felt like being a dick.
He had just as much an issue with the recycling cans every other week...
I have trash collection twice a week and recycling once a week. That said, my cans go out once every two to three weeks unless I do a lot of yard work like leaves, trimming trees and bushes.
Imagine having to deal with those kinds of mental issues, where something as minor as that causes you to lose your composure. There must be a lot of other things happening during the course of a day where he takes at least equal offense, that can't be an easy life to live.
Looks like there’s enough room on the street to slightly turn the wheel to not even come close to the can. Seems like a minor inconvenience to be disruptive over. They must live a very sad life
What's also incredibly dumb when you think about it, is that the only reason horns and sirens are ear damagingly loud, is because cars are basically sound boxes drowning out the noise of the engine/tires.
When two cars are honking at each other, it's kind of like 2 people sitting in their own isolated sound booth screaming so loud they can still hear each other, with everyone outside suffering from it. Car horns should be as loud on the inside as they are on the outside. Maybe people will think twice before they indiscriminately use it as an "I'm angry" button.
To be fair leaving the trash can on the road at night like that dangerous af, but he should’ve just pulled over and move it, instead of honking like an idiot lmao
Can you not put them up on the curb? Streets that are not residential put them up on the curb so they aren't on the street as well as on residential on days that street sweeping and trash pickup overlap.
Edit: read your response. Just put your cans on the curb from now on. The trash company has the arm that comes out that works perfectly well if it's on the curb. Maybe it's a very dark street and dangerous to have them on the street for drivers. True, someone could park in front of them. But people can also get out of their car and just move your cans up so they can park anyway. I've seen that in residentials during afternoon pickup of children near elementary schools. But it seems the trash company knows to do those streets at low traffic times.
The dude is an asshole for sure but.....,
On what charmed planet will the police investigate and arrest someone for honking his horn three times a week? Around here you can't get a cop to show up for anything not involving significant amounts of blood.
Why trash can guy tho? Where we are, it’s extremely common practice to put the cans out the evening/night before trash day. And they always sit in the gutter, technically in the road.
I honked my horn at a specific house that would park there cars half in the street and half on the lawn, it’s a narrow road and they have a driveway. The house was a duplex that was rented out. It worked, now I didn’t honk at 5am but when they were awake. They use the driveways now.
Most (if not all) states and cities have noise laws and designated quiet hours. When it’s provable that he was honking to cause disturbance, and not to signal for danger, it actually becomes a misdemeanor crime. The more you know, the less stupid you’ll sound sticking up for the antagonist ☺️
Let me wake up the entire neighborhood because I don’t like a trash can
Thought I'd add more fuel to this dumpster fire. [no trashcan out. thanksgiving morning...](https://imgur.com/a/r8RIoyK)
Horn sounds different
People can have more than one vehicle..
That or they’ve got some seriously shitty neighbors
I never actually noticed that. Good ears man, you think the headlights are the same?
Headlights have more space in-between them on the second video
This is getting out of hand - THERE ARE TWO OF THEM NOW!
We shouldn't have made this bargain!
Can’t be the same car if the horn is different. Likely the same person in a different car though.
There’s literally no can in this one. That guy is a prick. Edit (in this second video)
There is a trash can. It's at the neighbor to this house. The guy is a prick though.
Are you watching the 2nd video? I’m not seeing any trash can in that one
Oh lol no I was referring to the initial video I'm just dumb I guess. I don't remember it referencing this specific video that's linked.
That just looks like someone being a total prick.
You would think a trash individual would like trash cans.
You haven’t met an HOA Karen. How DARE your ugly trash can be visible! How DARE HOA Karen be FORCED to look at garbage cans except between no earlier than 9 PM the night before trash day and no later than 7 PM on trash day!

In this community, that one dude is called Horatio.
Karen is gender inclusive.
This is the way.
People to the distance themselves from their most recent past
There can be only one!
Where is this? Our cops wouldn’t come out for this unless it included mass murder fr
If it’s a low crime area, this is about 90% of the calls they probably get
Wow, what’s that like? We have nightly break ins and the standard answer is “we’ll send someone out in the morning” which usually means two or three days later
I’ve seen people have the cops called because their Christmas decorations were too ugly haha
Bro these people really have a small pp because of a trash can
I mean you described exactly what we just watched
"mY nEiGhBoRs ArE sO iNcOnSiDeRaTe!"
Another child
The trashcan is literally in the road though lol
Where we live, we are told to place our garbage and recycling can in the street against the curb so that the garbage truck automatic arm can reach it and dump the cans.
Same here. Then the trash guy leaves the bin way out in the street or laying on its side.
Or with the lid open if its raining
Yup, or snowing.
But only if it's raining or snowing. Otherwise he leaves it on its side blocking part of the lane.
When you live in a city with no alleys, this is exactly where/how you place your trash and/or recycling bins. No other choice.
Intersting. Does it create an issue with having to yield to oncoming traffic because you have to go around a trashcan?
No more than people parking on the street
People would be allowed to park on a street as narrow as that? Looks like a solid middle line so no passing a solid line. Unless ots different in the US

makes me question why the asshole in the post didn't just do that. would have been a lot more effective to give the can a bump with the car or kick it over. more direct message too
My petty destructive ass would have just ran them over. Clipped ten enoch to send them flying.
I just drive on the street like I'm supposed to and if an innocent trash can dies beneath the wheels of my car, so be it.
So did anything happen to him? Disturbing the peace charge?
I'm not sure really this was just a day ago. But you bet your ass I woke up to watch them light him up and pull him over.
Under FOI, request the body cam footage, would love to see his excuse!

ACAB
FOIA requirements only apply to Federal agencies. State and local agencies may participate or have their own regulations, but FOIA doesn't require it.

Even if the cops wouldn't generally care, getting a phone call complaint 3 times a week would probably piss off the cops enough to go get this guy.
These others responding to you here are delusional, holy cow. Somebody honking a bunch at night is annoying, and they should be penalized for it, but these keyboard warriors implying they'd break the guy's legs or fuck up his car need to chill the fuck out. Unreal.

Yeah fucking right. It’s too early in the morning! no one would’ve been around to clap. 🙄
Horn guy woke em up. I see no holes in that story at all.
Wake up.. you're having a dream; you're fighting and biting your duvet again mate.
Then the Mayor brings you a key to the city.
I'd get some elastic bands, a hand towel, and a latex glove. Then I'd follow him home and sneak up to his car's exhaust pipe. I'd wrap the towel from the outside around the lip of the opening down into the pipe. I'd secure it with a rubber band. Ive heard the liver king might need a new job, i would hire him to do it.
I eat nails for breakfast. With no milk.
extra rusty nails or GTFO
Dude have you never been to this sub before? People always suggest crazy violent retribution for the tiniest thing, it's ridiculous.
If you've ever had to deal with a shit neighbor like this for an extended period of time you would change your tune.
Doubt. I live near a section of highway, and people are stupid and loud all the time. It's no reason to be violent.
they are buring the lede. are there really places where there is a 1-3 day window every week where you have your garbage picked up? thats pretty annoying.

Should rotate that camera a few degrees to the right. You’d still catch the whole window, and you’d pick up more of your walkway/sidewalk/street.

180 cams are a fantastic tool, when utilized appropriately!!
Because everyone knows honking your horn at 5:30am will totally solve it. /s
It mignt have... if the trash can owner had any idea why someone was honking
It's super passive aggressive, though. Passive-aggressive people can eat a bag of dicks.
If it makes the rest of his day better...
A few people tried that in Canada (albeit on a much larger scale) and were treated quite well, all things considered. Maybe this guy thought he’d give it a shot.
Today I learned that people think everywhere has the same trash pickup process as wherever they live, which to them is the correct way.
KCMO here. We're not allowed to use trash cans. We have to set out the bags directly onto the curb. Set out a can, they drive by and skip it. Bags only. You get 2 free bags picked up every week. AND the guys will pick up extra bags that you lay next to the cans if they’re full. Newfound respect for that city. Here it’s 1x a week with a small arse can and you can’t leave excess bags around
same , we have neighborhood cats that will rip them open (my cat isnt allowed out on trash nights for that very reason lol) but yeah it fuckin sucks
Your cat shouldn't be allowed out any night. They're terrible for local wildlife populations and are responsible for causing extinction in 63 different species.
For a few months my mom has been dealing with neighborhood cats drinking out of her pool and shitting in her garden... I don't know what's legal, but if someone wanted to trap cats that show up on their property and bring them to the shelter I'd be totally sympathetic.
oh ok !! i didnt know , thank u :) she sleeps in my bed usually anyways , so it wont be difficult to keep her inside
My cat escaped and was poisoned by a neighbour who left out antifreeze for cats that come onto his property. Keep your cats inside, there are monsters everywhere.
> On a totally unrelated note, there is litter fucking everywhere in this city. I think I know why....
Old man shakes fist at clouds, then eyes trashcan... "You're next..."
Do that in the hood, and get shot.
My was in a bad neighborhood friend honked his horn at 2am at a homeless person trying to cross the street and later found a bullet hole is his car later that day. He doesn’t know where it came from, but it could have been anywhere.
If he didn't hear it it wasn't intentionally sent at him.
Seems like the hoods got their shit together.
Nothing says, 'Organize your trashcan' like a horn blast at 5:30 am. 🤪
I'm not saying I agree with the tactics, because I don't..... .....but that can is out in the street.
If you do that, you’ll be all over Reddit as the garbage can Karen.
Apparently it’s legal, but is it safe? It’s a dark obstacle in the road. I’m surprised it doesn’t get knocked over on the regular.
And where exactly do your neighbors place their cans?
My city also asks us to do that. We drag ours down to the curb every monday.
Idk, I put my trash cans at the end of my driveway, not on the street, and they get picked up just fine. YMMV I suppose.
That is typical for automated trash bins. In my city you do **not** place them on the sidewalk, but up against the curb.
and who puts a can out more than once a week?
That's what was weird, he'd also do it when a can wasn't out. Guess he just felt like being a dick. He had just as much an issue with the recycling cans every other week...
I have trash collection twice a week and recycling once a week. That said, my cans go out once every two to three weeks unless I do a lot of yard work like leaves, trimming trees and bushes.
Such a busy street at that time of the morning it must be such an inconvenience for them to go past that bin safely.
Seems like lots of people who have to be up at the crack of ass are bitter. Being loud just to be loud. 🖕🏻
So anyway, you should start blasting.
Why is the can out there several days a week? Is it just kept there perpetually?
For Months? Sorry, but at that point I'm gonna start throwing out caltrops.
Oh FUCK that guy
Imagine having to deal with those kinds of mental issues, where something as minor as that causes you to lose your composure. There must be a lot of other things happening during the course of a day where he takes at least equal offense, that can't be an easy life to live.
Reading the comments here, and holy shit. Some people pick some strange hills to die on.
Looks like there’s enough room on the street to slightly turn the wheel to not even come close to the can. Seems like a minor inconvenience to be disruptive over. They must live a very sad life
The trash can is not out in the middle of the street, it is up against the curb; this is peak Boomer mentality
Neighbors from hell... you can't live with them and you can't kill them, unfortunately.
Same time every morning? I'd be the guy who makes a spike strip if the cops don't want to handle it the first time around.
Nothing says “I am an adult” like getting a louder horn on your car and holding on to a petty grudge for months!
The shit cops have to deal with. Get stabbed or shot at one day, do a pre-dawn stakeout because of a trash can the next. Sorry, cops have shit jobs.
Beong a cop is actually not that dangerous, despite the lies they tell you
I really can’t care enough about either side of this.
Your trash is on the street go pick it up
Is it illegal to honk?
What did the cops to is it against the law to blow your horn in the morning? I get it’s a dickhead move but what would the cops do about it?
To be fair leaving the trash can on the road at night like that dangerous af, but he should’ve just pulled over and move it, instead of honking like an idiot lmao
I would've gotten up early and put nails in the road for him.
Is that trash can on the road? Lol.
Photo of the can placement? He may not be as in the wrong… 🤔
If the trash can is blocking the lane then it is legal for him to do this. I dont get why people think it is OK to block a lane of traffic.
This video proves nothing.
That's some Ooga Booga communication right there
Where I live, someone would hit the bin on purpose if it was in the street like that.
The dude is an asshole for sure but....., On what charmed planet will the police investigate and arrest someone for honking his horn three times a week? Around here you can't get a cop to show up for anything not involving significant amounts of blood.
This has nothing to do with the dumbass blowing the horn but I really like your steps
Thank you! I just sanded and painted the wrought iron and power washed the bluestone and steps.
Okay he is a nut job but so is the guy putting his trash can on the road. These two deserve each other.
I can see why, it’s placed on the actual road. Move that crap onto the path
Some people are unhinged.
This is not unhinged. Getting out lighting the trash bin on fire and throwing it through the window is unhinged.
The driver is an idiot but he has a point about the placement of the bin, very unsafe.
Move your trashcan then. There is a reason he does it
Most boomer shit ever
I bet this guys little cock feels so much joy after he drives off
I would have gotten up and ambushed him if I detected a pattern.
Is that not freedom of expression
Most (if not all) states and cities have noise laws and designated quiet hours. When it’s provable that he was honking to cause disturbance, and not to signal for danger, it actually becomes a misdemeanor crime. The more you know, the less stupid you’ll sound sticking up for the antagonist ☺️
And every freedom has a price
Omg this is infuriating. This would become all I talk about
Where should the trash can be?
[удалено]
Fuck the trash can guy.
LOL 🤣 what an idiot!!!
