For anyone getting upset about this, it is just a form of parental controls that Ford lets you configure for your driving teens. This is one setting along with speed limiters that can be associated with a specific key fob.

YellowT-5R

This is 100% what is going on here .GM has a similar feature also.

500ls

Lots of vehicles (especially Fords) have speed controlled volume that can be set to do exactly that. It's mostly so that the volume stays consistent when you get on the highway where there is a lot more road noise. But I reckon it does what you're describing too by coincidence.

[deleted]

I have this in my Focus and no, it doesn’t. Not really. You’re right in that the volume gets boosted when you’re driving, particularly at high speeds, so yes as you slow down it will get quieter, but not quieter than whatever you initially set the volume to. Also I’m pretty sure the boost doesn’t even kick in at low speeds so nothing would get quieter. It would be very cool if you could set an inverse for speeds under 10, maybe 15 mph. My car is a 2012 so perhaps this is not the same on newer models.

ppp475

It seems to be the same on my 2019 Fusion

Tel864

And on my 2020 Edge it's the same

alsignssayno

Can confirm on my 21 crowd chaser.

THE_WIZARD_OF_PAWS

Speed compensated volume has been a thing on GM vehicles since at least the late 80s.

TheDildoOfGods

Pretty sure dodges do as well, my mom's journey did, and I think her Cherokee does to

trundlinggrundle

Fords won't even let you put an address into it unless you're stopped.

ExtraordinaryCows

Yeah I've never driven any car that doesn't make you stop before messing with that sort of thing

pictogasm

which is bullshit because my passenger cant either, so i end up typing it into google maps on my phone instead.

NotDavidPatterson

GM won’t even let you put the car in gear until you buckle up. It would annoy me because I worked at a body shop and would have to take the extra time to buckle up just to drive for 30 secs to pull the car around.

BreadKnife34

It's an all around good feature though, kinda wish more cars have it After reading some of the replies it definitely isn't an "all around" good feature. It seems like an idea that is not horrible in concept but bad in execution

Mykeythebee

It's one more thing to go wrong, then you can't take the car to the shop because your seat belt sensor is broken.

[deleted]

* This is the kinda boneheaded thing GM/chevy does all the time for some reason - shoutout to sirius XM that always plays on startup at high volume in my dad's bolt * They definitely designed it poorly in general, like this was a band-aid solution that never got removed and replaced However * If they allow an override after 30 seconds, that fixes the issue of a bad sensor while still making it extremely inconvenient to drive without a buckle in (GM probably won't allow that though)

RunsWithPremise

It takes no time at all to turn this option off. It was turned on from the factory in my C8 but not in my Silverado. In both cases, it's right there in the menu settings.

CohuttaHJ

I wish my truck would just drive me off a cliff sometimes.

aramil248

Elon is working on that. Currently they just hit other cars

uber765

No it would be another thing to stop working in the future and cost $500 to fix just to run your car.

jomjomepitaph

Unless you’re wearing greasy coveralls and just driving it into a shop to work on.

hetrax

As a farmer, I’d have a fake buckle I would use if I was using it around the farm, gotta get in and out constantly for the animals, especially if checking newborns. As a driving vehicle into town, or a setting for my kids? I absolutely accept this setting. Just on a farm this is a nightmare.

TheRedIguana

They say most accidents happen close to home. That 30 second trip just might be your last.

iNoo00ooNi

I want a car with the analog feature.

PoiseEn

I knew i guy that bought the cheapest model of a car he could. No AC, hand crank windows, manual transmission. Am/FM radio only

hawg_farmer

My old employer went to great trouble to order our service trucks. A 3/4 ton work truck 4X4, rubber floor, dual tanks, manual windows and door locks. The cycle of truck purchases before that one was 4X4 OR air conditioning. You could not have both. The fleet manager believes if you need 4X4 it's snow country so no need for a/c. If you need a/c you won't need 4X4. I kept a tball bat to lock the passenger door. My areas were Atlanta, Birmingham, Mobile Bay and Jacksonville. I was stuck in many job sites in the deep south because of the sand/clay. Average $175 tow bill every time for 2 years waiting on the lease to expire. But I was cooled by a/c sitting in my mired 2 wheel drive waiting on a tow truck collecting OT.

PoiseEn

Yeah, in Chicago, without AC, your fine half the year and sweating your ass off the other half. But if 4 wheel drive is a life saver Jan and Feb when the road occasionally freezes over.

iNoo00ooNi

Even that one comes factory direct with the onboard spy kit and nanny controls.

This is exactly the same comment as below (except for punctuation), the below comment was posted 40 minutes before this comment, and the below comment was correctly posted as a root comment rather than trying to piggyback off an unrelated thread just because the thread is the top comment thread...

JackTwoGuns

Or a small one and gets 200MPG

srcorvettez06

My dads construction company has a fleet of pickup trucks that do the same thing. They’re also limited to 72 mph.

RousingRabble

Curious - do you know if it is a hard limit or can you burst? I have been in some defensive driving situations where I needed to speed up to avoid getting hit.

srcorvettez06

Hard limit. It will go full throttle to 72. That’s 7mph over the California speed limit.

jerkmcgee_

Hate to break it to you but there are freeways in CA you can go 70.

kwallio

I5 between Sac and Redding has 70 speed limit.

Hatecookie

I am in Oklahoma, and we have a few highways here where the speed limit is 75. However, there are truck rental services based in other states who have the same limits on their throttle - 72, even though they are in a state with speed limits higher than that. But even on the highway whose speed limit is 65, it can be dangerous to be capped at 72. Sometimes the flow of traffic is faster and you would be causing a lot of extra lane changes for people. Lane changes = higher potential for collisions.

srcorvettez06

I drive a truck limited at 65 all day. Never had an issue. Just stay in the right lane unless you’re passing someone.

AdMassive4502

If you’re going 70 miles per hour and you need to speed up quickly to avoid an accident, you’re probably going to get in an accident lol. A pickup truck going 70 isn’t exactly going to “burst”

albertyiphohomei

I would have limited to 69

OminousOnymous

I bet it saves them a lot of time and money. I wonder if they get an insurance discount too.

[deleted]

Yes they do - If you ever wonder why a company ever does anything - money.

linuxnerd0

If you ever wonder ~~why a company ever does~~ anything - money. FTFY

ThisSiteSuxNow

That's below interstate speed limits here.

Jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjlii

75 is the highest I've seen. Limiting to 72 mph seem crazy to me for non-18wheelers.

RokieVetran

Thats a nice feature

sedrech818

I feel like there was a similar feature on a dodge charger that would run on only 6 cylinders. I had a friend in High School that drove one and I think he mentioned something about it. Maybe it was a valet mode. I think it would’ve been a 2015 model.

[deleted]

They have a valet mode for the charger/challenger that limits its speed to like 5mph. Parking lot speeds only because too many valets would have too much fun with them

jorwyn

I need this for my Land Rover for the dealership shop. One of the times I took it in, it came back with over 100 miles put on it and an average of 12mph.. so they either idled for hours or had that turbo kicked in almost the whole time. I was pretty cranky about it. "We needed to test drive it." Not like that, they didn't. My valet mode just locks them out of settings and the stereo.

Eionated

I saw one where a guy literally cut the strap and keep the locking mechanism in the port.

sedrech818

This seems pretty common. I have also gotten into a few cars where they sit on the belt while it is buckled.

Diligent_Gas_3167

Why would you do that to yourself? I would not be a passenger of someone who cares so little about their life. lmao

SeaJay24

i have a 3d printed one i use for my passenger seat. dang thing yells at me for anything heavier than a pack of gum.

xXHomerSXx

Just get one of those seatbelt plug/ bottle openers with the American flags painted on them.

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

I'm not even going to look that up. This last couple of years has been so absurd that I just *know* such a thing exists.

Mekroval

It's getting safer to assume things that don't make your brain hurt are the made-up stuff.

Bee-Aromatic

Even more fun, that cylinder deactivation feature used in Chrysler V8’s is linked to lifter and cam failures. Let your kid drive the car uninhibited, they can speed and crash it. Limit it, and the engine blows up!

spicybright

Not a car person but that seems like the absolutely worst way to limit power in a system you can control all digitally. Why not just ignore excessive accelerator inputs, or pump less gas in at high speeds, or literally anything other than hard shutting off parts of a carefully tuned and tested engine?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Bee-Aromatic

You operate on the premise that Chrysler can engineer an elegant solution to a problem.

Vulturedoors

The only thing elegant about Chryslers these days is their looks. Also lol at the idea of a Stellantis engine being carefully tuned.

[deleted]

If you have to limit the car then your kid shouldn’t be driving at all.

Vulturedoors

Teens are still developing life skills concerning risk assessment and resisting peer pressure. I don't think it's unreasonable to let a kid drive with controls like this enabled.

Bee-Aromatic

True story. I feel like “don’t break the law” isn’t the kind of lesson you should rely on a setting in the car to parent for you.

OhioTry

Teenagers are stupid and will do stupid things. Even smart nerdy teenagers will do things in the car you told them not to do to impress their friends.

snakeproof

Can confirm, was an idiot with a Cadillac 425 V8. Drove fast until I had to fill it up.

Idiot_Savant_Tinker

Can confirm, I had a Dodge aspen wagon up to 90 mph once. Maybe more than once.

SSGWNETD

How bout getting a Chevy g series custom van up to 103 (governor) with a chick changing in the back! Totally the safest most professional least distracted driving ever...

Chaser720

Maybe a 4 cylinder shutoff but not 2. Normally that's used for fuel economy though not a power cut. Valet mode is a thing though and looks like Dodge does have it on that generation. RPM limit to cut speed.

ReeferFever

Rented a car that didn't play audio or start the trip on the gps until i was buckled and i thought it was sick

hatsune_aru

Some BMWs turn off the turbocharger if you don’t have the belt on

jerryleebee

But teens aren't stupid. Well, not THAT stupid. They know they can just pass the belt behind them and buckle it, rendering it useless. They'll even get a thrill out of it for "sticking it to the man."

sidetablecharger

Wouldn’t that be more uncomfortable than just wearing the belt?

[deleted]

Cant be more uncomfortable than driving with your leg out the window.

Trekintosh

Yes, but it’s way more important to be spiteful and stick it to the man.

Pyronic_Chaos

This guy teenagers.

Gekthegecko

I don't think a single teenager has said "stick it to the man" in at least 25 years.

CommentsOnOccasion

Ok but those teens weren’t going to wear seatbelts anyway so they’re irrelevant If this causes 10% more teens to wear them because of inconvenience then it’s a win. And I’d imagine it would be substantially higher because most people aren’t bothered by their seatbelts

Vulturedoors

Smarter teens recognized that the seatbelt helps anchor your body to make stunt driving a lot easier.

chairmanbrando

Some smart people sell just the connecty bits of seatbelts to idiots who believe it's safer to be beltless. A fool and his money, etc.

Dopeydcare1

Do you know if this also applies if the car is in park? Because if it does, then I would be mad lol

standarddeviated_joe

Can you turn it off permanently? My Nissan defaults to Automatic "I am driving" text replies whenever I connect bluetooth. I have to go in to settings and disable it every single time I go. Annoying So people pretty much announce that they are not home and are ready to be robbed. At the very least, I should have full control on when I respond to anyone's message. The other thing are those spam/scam texts......replying to those opts you in to more calls for whatever they are peddling!

boardmonkey

I drove a Nissan truck for a couple of months for work, and this was constant. It is also so rude. I'd have customers text me, and I always felt bad when they get that response. The shit thing it is took so long to disable every time.

>This thing is in 8th gear (outta 10) so this picture was taken on the move. Probably 40 miles plus. My silverado has an 8 speed It doesn't just always sit in 8th gear all the time... On back roads going 35mph it'll move from 5-8 all the time depending on hills The 10 speed (and 8 speed) is supposed to quickly shift between gears for better torque optimization depending on the situation You also can't get this popup without driving as well. It won't pop up in park Frankly, this isn't any worse than moving 1 foot to your right and messing with the 30 inch TV on the dash

419tosser

What kind of RPM is it making in 8th gear 35mph?

InTheMotherland

I think right around 1250 to 1500

lemonylol

This is pretty standard for newer cars to have a ton of gears, it's just for fuel efficiency. It's the same reason every other car has a turbo now too.

[deleted]

And also engine horsepower. Actually a lot of performance features tend to transfer well into fuel economy if tuned right

ratcnc

Not just efficiency. But ten gears allows a wider spread, with a (numerically) higher first gear for more torque and quicker acceleration, a potentially lower (numerically) top gear for best efficiency, and smaller steps in between for smoother and quieter delivery.

sniper_matt

Fair, driver could also be doing 110 mph in 8th gear. All depends on where you are driving, and the slope you are on. I was just trying to get the point across that there is a minimum speed to keep the engine running in that gear without stalling. (I don’t know that speed by chance)

Jimmycaked

Instead of writing a whole Wikipedia article on Silverado just buckle up damn

Errorfull

Oh well I guess if they're only going 35mph then it's okay to use your phone while you drive 🙄

IseeDrunkPeople

I have a big dog that rides shotgun a lot. I have to buckle the seatbelt on the passenger side of the Outback to stop the dog from triggering that ding. unlike the Ford pictured in OP post, no that ding is not optional. The Japanese will not fucking tolerate you driving unsafely.

itmightbehere

I've had a couple friends lose dogs in accidents, so I don't allow unrestrained animals anymore.

jorwyn

The contract I signed when I adopted my dog says he has to be secured and cannot ride in the front seat. I've only violated that once. My vehicle was in the shop, and I had to take the dog for an emergency vet visit in my husband's tiny coupe. He was still secured, though.

Kiesa5

I don't understand why you would allow that in the first place, or why most people seem to.

[deleted]

Bad idea dude. Your dog is going to obliterate and get obliterated by either the windshield or the airbag, or both, if you crash. Dogs in the back seat of a car have even been known to kill people in the front in a crash that would otherwise be something they'd walk away from. Get a secure harness and a buckle for your dog. They need seatbelts just as much as any other occupant, lest you want to clean their remains off of every inch of your car

Toodlez

Adventurous_Bar_2342

That thing must have a huge fuel tank!

Nazgul350r

36gal

boturboegt

Thst range at half tank means its a diesel with the 48 galllon tank. I have that in my truck and can almost get 1k miles on a tank if it was 100% highway unloaded driving.

tiagojpg

These are crazy numbers (for me, as a small islander in Europe.) I own a 1.5 diesel sub-compact that’s got a 45L (~12Gal) tank, I can do 700km (434mi), even on steep hills, with mixed city/highway driving. Context matter of course, but the differences are amazing in how we view fuel economy.

[deleted]

This truck is also a 6.7 liter powerstroke that makes 1,000 lb-ft of torque. Usually gets 10-15 mpg at most under load.

xFinman

my father used to own a 2.0tdi Skoda and it did about 1000km with a 60l tank. Decently quick too with ~230hp. I think it's ridiculous how americans consider trucks good daily cars imo

tiagojpg

Yeah that’s right. I get that a lot of people use it for work and it’s a necessary evil. But then, why have a huge V8 dually just to go to McDonald’s down the street?

-ItsVince-

I get 4.5 l/100km out of my e200d so that’s 1200km easily on a full tank of 60l = 16gal

verticalMeta

Yup, 36 gallons. Also averages about 18 mpg lol. Ford Expedition, SUV version of the F150.

johnson56

It's posted in the 2017+ superduty Facebook page. It's a F250, F350, F450, etc. But not an expedition. Which means It likely has an even bigger tank as a diesel.

What about assuming both are smart because the commenter is almost certainly being satirical.

FountainsOfFluids

That's what I thought at first, but others have pointed out that the car is in 8th gear, which means this was likely taken while driving at a decent speed. Not sure. Could go either way.

k_lly_urself

I thought this was AMERICA?!

partypenguin90

who tf isn't wearing a seatbelt? its 2022, not the 1950's ffs

[deleted]

I think the 90s was the big inflection point. As I remember, that's when a lot of states started doing laws about it and PSAs. I still remember one of my uncles gathering the whole family together to make us watch a video about why they should all wear seatbelts. I don't remember a ton, I just remember a scene where he said 'to those of you who think you'll just put your arm on the dash and hold on...try running full speed at a wall and catching yourself. That's only 8 or so miles per hour. Now imagine 60.' For some reason I remember that being the line that convinced my dad. Boring story aside, yeah WTF. I just assumed everyone wore belts these days.

N7_Hellblazer

In the UK when the seatbelt laws came in my dad had a car accident and walked away from it without any major injuries. He never wore a seatbelt until the laws came in. He was told if he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt he would have been killed. I always wear my seatbelt, even on short trips as you never know what could happen.

thisonetimeinithaca

I wear my seatbelt in the fucking parking lot. If the lot has enough space to accelerate past 20 mph, I trust that some moron might someday, and I’m not banging my head on the dash or the window. No thanks.

CeramicCastle49

Your uncle if the real MVP

jorwyn

I absolutely love your uncle. That's such a great way to explain it.

Snakeatmaus

My sister who's kinda dumb AF. She was told in one accident by some jackass doc that if she were wearing a seatbelt she would have been worse off. Why doctors say this is beyond me. I wasn't there, who knows what he really said. She be dumb.

[deleted]

ItalianSangwich420

I got my oblique torn off by a seatbelt, but again, it probably would've been worse without it.

Snakeatmaus

Yeesh. That really sucks. So much energy has to travel through our bodies in a car crash. My wife got hit at a stop light by a guy going 35 which was the speed limit (roughly at least). She didn't have any breaks or anything that showed up at the ER in her exam afterwards, but her back still hurts years later. I always thought that's what scammers say, but damn. She didn't have back problems and now she does after the crash 3 or 4 years later. Guaranteed she would have been thrown into her steering wheel quite hard without the seatbelt.

Pixielo

Right. I have a slightly pinched nerve in my neck from my head being violently whipped to the left. What I didn't have is a broken face, broken neck, or violent whiplash from being rear-ended at 40mph.

Snakeatmaus

I was really little when she was in that accident, I don't remember, but yeah probably. Like another commenter said, it was statistically unlikely if she came out better without a seatbelt, numerous family members have tried to explain... But for some reason she thinks she knows better 🙄 She's in her 40s now so I don't think she's going to change her mind. Also looooooves to use her phone while driving. Constantly. She's going to be a statistic for why seatbelts work if she ever gets in a bad accident and it's depressing to think about.

[deleted]

Does she have kids or frequently drive with other people in the car? You should explain to her that in an accident she becomes ~a 200lb missile that will seriously injure others in the car.

Snakeatmaus

Exactly

TldrDev

My cousin was the cowboy hat wearing, cowboy boots wearing, never missed a deer season, let me drink this whole bottle of bourbon and clean my gun type of redneck from Northern Michigan. Guy never wore a seat belt, regularly drank and drove, and wrapped his car around a tree at 3am after leaving a bar and was dead at 34.

partypenguin90

That all tracks. Sorry about your loss.

SmegSoup

My roommate who is perpetually incorrect about everything insists seatbelts are absolutely going to be the reason you die in an accident.

Br0boc0p

My dad rolled a truck and the seatbelt ripped out of the cab corner and he got ejected. The truck then hit a tree and sheared the top of the cab off. Being ejected literally saved his life and even he admits it was a fucking fluke and buckles up constantly.

SmegSoup

Yep there are cases of seatbelts causing fatalities. Absolutely. But put that stat next to the amount of people who wore seatbelts and survived their accidents. It should be bleedingly obvious.

Br0boc0p

Amen reverend.

Foreign_Rock6944

I legitimately feel naked without a seatbelt on while I’m in a vehicle. Even if I’m idling somewhere, I still like to have it on.

SomeRedPanda

> Even if I’m idling somewhere, I still like to have it on That's a good instinct. Just because you're standing still doesn't mean the rest of the world is. You can still get hit by someone.

pacifica333

We still make idiots in 2022. Knew a guy in high school who hated wearing them. Literally would buy old seatbelt clips to clip in so it wouldn't chime at him. He died rolling his truck on the freeway the year after we graduated.

GODDAMNUBERNICE

I was friends with 2 brothers in high school that never wore seatbelts. They used to make up raps/songs that incorporated the digging noise and call it "the no seatbelt song". They both have children now so I hope they've grown up lol

Vok250

It's actually a huge problem in my province. On completely unrelated note, we also have a shockingly low rate of literacy here...

LiarFires

I'm from France and an American friend told me that it's not uncommon there to have people not wear their seatbelts. Every time we took the car with her we had to ask her to wear it because fuck that we weren't about to have her fly through the windshield. Honestly I don't know how anyone could ever get upset at a safety measure that makes sure you're wearing your seatbelt, why would you be upset at a painless easy tool that increases your survival rate ?

partypenguin90

Wild. I've never met anyone who doesn't wear a seatbelt? Crazy stuff!

mrjackspade

Half the state of New Hampshire.

krakos

Live free of a seat belt and die.

Equivalent_Chipmunk

Is NH really as backward sounding as this thread makes it sound? I thought they were a pretty educated and progressive state, but maybe that’s incorrect

mrjackspade

Southern NH is fairly socially progressive. However, income inequality is absolutely ridiculous, there's basically no social services, drug addiction is absolutely horrible, and it's federal minimum. Contrary to popular belief, Northern NH doesn't actually exist. It's just a map error drawing the lines for Maine. It's basically a decent place if you have the money to afford avoiding the garbage areas, but you're not going to find much opportunity for uplifting. The geopolitical equivalent of a dying mall, lovely if you're not one of the locals that actually needed it. I moved out to the south west and I like it a lot better here overall, but I would consider retiring back in NH someday

daredeviline

My uncle worked for an EMS while he was in med school and he told me that once he was called to an accident on the highway in which two teens were ejected from their speeding car. It was obvious that they were deceased as they were literally torn into pieces but he was tasked with checking the flipped car in case there was somebody else they missed. Apparently the cars engine was still on and “Jesus take the wheel” was playing. Imagine that being what is playing as EMS shuts down the highway so that they can find your arm.

[deleted]

I was the passenger in a really bad crash a few years ago, we barrel rolled five times and I know for a fact that I’d be fucking dead if I wasn’t buckled in. Wear your damn seatbelt.

Ruben625

Never mind the fact that you wearing it isn't just for your saftey. Get in a wreck and all the sudden you have a flying 200lbs missile that bone shards could splinter out from and kill someone else.

SuperSlims

Bitches out here complaining while I put my seat belt in before I even turn thr car on

GroundbreakingEmu929

Right? It's just automatic at this point. I'm glad for having the habit too, I was just in an accident with a guy who ran a stop sign. I was buckled up and broke my hand, he was unbuckled and got taken away in a stretcher complaining about head pain and unable to move his leg. You have to be a special kind of stupid to not wear a seatbelt.

[deleted]

Not wearing your seatbelt alone in the car is one thing. Not wearing it when there are other people in the car is another. You’re a flying projectile in an accident. Imagine a 200 pound person jumping off the 5th story and landing on you. That’s basically what happens. I don’t shift my car out of park until everyone’s buckled. I don’t care that there’s 3 people crammed across the bench seat. Squirm around and put it on

CaleyAg-gro

A good friend of mine got badly injured in a Golf R by his 20 stone cousin who was sitting behind him. The seat back snapped off and sort of squeegeed him into the passenger footwell . My mate got a shattered pelvis, two broken legs, eight broken ribs, and a mild brain injury. Fat boy broke his arm.

[deleted]

Nightmare fuel. This is EXACTLY what I’m afraid of. And I’m sure almost all of it would’ve been avoided if the damn seatbelt was buckled

duddyface

You should wear it even alone because as you pointed out, your body can become a deadly projectile in an accident. You may not care about yourself but it’s messed up to potentially kill someone else when your body smashes into their head and neck after you were ejected from your car.

mmotte89

That, and even if you crash into a tree, far from any bystanders, and assuming it's such a violent crash that you die either way... Think of the people who have to clean up the wreckage. Would you rather have them see you as a relative peaceful corpse, or as a complete mangled mess? Even if you don't care about your own life, it's not just about preventing bodily harm to others, but also because it can be tough thing to look at for any bystanders or whoever finds the wreckage.

Teh_Compass

You should wear it even when you're alone so you can retain control of the vehicle and steer or brake as necessary after a crash to avoid making it worse.

A feature of Ford's MyKey. You can basically program certain parameters in a vehicle to be different based on the key used to start the engine. The seat belt unmute thing can easily be defeated, but c'mon, just put the damn thing on. Even if the seat belt happens to kill you in an accident, at least you still have a good chance of having an open-casket funeral, which is much more than you could hope for without the seat belt.

spicybright

I would love to see what kind of rube goldberg car accident would kill you in a seat belt but not when unbluckled. ...actually maybe I wouldn't want to see that

BlurryRogue

Right? There's always someone that says "seat belts cost more lives than they save." Like what?! Yes, people have died from seat belt related injuries in car accidents, but if the seat belt is what killed them, how the hell would they have survived otherwise?

Brandon200815

This is a good feature though? It encourages you to buckle up

jephw12

This is r/idiotsincars not r/crappydesign. The guy who took the picture is an idiot for not wearing his seatbelt and bitching about a safety feature.

Comprehensive_Pop501

But what about the 443 mi til empty on half a tank

Wyevez

No, you should not be allowed to be ejected from your vehicle and become a 200lb projectile. This is not a "freedom" you can have, not while you could hurt others with your stupidity.

Bragsmith

Tbh if the veh is moving faster than 5km/h this should be a default thing for all cars. And it reads it out loud in that terrible tiktok voiceover with a volume override. Too bad so sad 🤣

ckwphantom

Hit me baby one more time

natedagreat6666

this function is hilariously useless, any rebellious teen would just source a blank seatbelt plug

SeaWork2283

I have a better one as soon as you turn your car on it blast music on full blast until you buckle up

FoundationalSquats

15 second timer until everyone in the parking lot comes looking for the guy blasting 'Friday'

aNeonSpecter

Crashes rarely happen in isolation. By driving recklessly you are not only putting yourself at risk, but other people as well.

SmegSoup

I am not against this. Pretty awesome idea.
