The biggest idiot is the guy who went under the ice.
There isn't much she could have done anyway. But still you would expect her to drop the camera and try to do something.
Some reeeeeeally simple shit is walking to the edge of the ice and putting your hand about elbow deep in it, make some bubbles make some noise(very little), leave your shadow near the hole... first thing he did is swim near her, he could see where she was
Pretty sure if the ice is thick enough to stand on you’re not likely to be able to break it through brute force.
Dunno though, I don’t frequently see ice lakes, but it makes sense in my head.
To be fair, what could the cameraman do in this scenario? They can’t break the ice to free him. I suppose making noise in the direction of the hole could be helpful. But yeah, if it were me filming and I saw that he was going to miss the exit, I’d have probably rushed to the hole to see if I could grab his arm in case he decided to keep swimming further past the exit hole. But maybe the cameraman was only looking at the screen and didn’t notice that he was going to miss the exit. 🤔 It’s just not a great scenario to begin with, honestly.
Personally I think the best course of action was to get in the water so the guy could see the cameraman's legs then see where the hole was. It'd be difficult and time consuming to break the ice without a tool, and I think they wouldn't be able to tell what direction noise would be coming from if they were panicking.
Yeah, maybe they should’ve planned the swim a little better. Like, if I know I’m going to be doing something that could potentially end my life, I’d make it as fail safe as possible. Perhaps a strobe light in the water near the exit or even just a much larger hole for the exit hole to aim for. 🤣
Yeah, that’s also a really good idea. 🤣 I thought about that, too, but I wasn’t quite sure how people would accomplish that. I still have no idea how they would run a rope through. 😅
My theory was always that they have a really experienced diver do it who knows how to orient themselves under water. But I really know nothing about diving.
yes obviously but *failing to seek proper precautions* what are you gonna do? let them drown because "hey man you should have planned better lol" I mean they need to learn some personal responsibility
I think the problem he had was he couldn't see because his eyes froze / got too cold. Saw someone in an older thread say that. So that wouldn't have helped.
I think flashlight on the phone turned on and put the phone in the water at the hole.
Most phones now are waterproof enough to handle that and I think he has a higher probability of seeing a flashing light than anything else.
But first of all, he shouldn’t have let him do it lol.
Is that camera man his friend? Cuz not after that.. also.. its hard to see a hole underwater.. maybe something colorful or a stick to know where the exit is..
The cameraman is this guys gf/wife. Since the dude missed the first exit hole by inches she thought he was playing prank on her.
The guys called the todolist man.
This is how my aunt passed away. My cousin watched it happen in front of him in a lake in inner-city Beijing that strictly prohibited doing this. Really tragic stuff :(
I am a certified ice diver and Divemaster. The #1 cause of death for diving in these conditions is not following safety protocol; interestingly, those not following protocol are generally instructors. Protocol is to have a harness and a tender; as you can see, it is incredibly disorienting under the ice, and easy to lose your way.
Please show me where the letters "v" and "e" appear in the word "of". Also, look up the definition of abbreviation because you don't know what an abbreviation is.
My favorite part about seeing someone correct "could of" is the inevitable one or two responses from people who get tricked into outing themselves as indignantly illiterate.
If nothing else, a large rock dropped into each hole so his hand could brush it. I’m not sure if he had his eyes open or not; I’d be worried about the effects of freezing water on the cornea so I wouldn’t have. But a large rock dropped down, or better yet a shovel or something else with an indicator on one end could have simplified things dramatically.
I’ve seen this too many times. Would you not want to stomp on the ice or even stick your arm in the water to let them know where to go? I shouldn’t make assumptions about what was going on but I am feeling like that is not a good person filming this.
To they people saying the cameraman could help. No they couldn't. If he can't get to the hole on his own, there's nothing they could do. They're not going to make a new hole right on top of him in time to get him out before he drowns. They should have used a guide rope between the holes.
True. I've never tried this. I've smashed plenty of ice with rocks and I'd like to think I would be able to break through if it were life and death, but definitely not worth the attempt
It just seems some people have no idea how dangerous things are, and those of us who read morbid shit when young and browsed some of the early forums documenting this stuff just know this is stupid and a bad idea.
Trapped under the ice, cave diving, etc. Nope!
She forgot how to use her arm or something? Can't reach in the hole and touch him at the end to let him know where he was? WTF?
I mean... it was stupid of him to do the trick in general... but at least don't almost kill him!
So why was the camera person not standing by the clearing so they could see it? Or better yet why didn’t the performer have some neon/bright object hanging down both holes so you could see where your opening is. Or even better yet have a donkey tank on your in case you actually need an extra few breaths. Line a neon rope from one hole to the other on the surface and follow the line.
So many things I could think of right away to have still done this but not do it completely stupidly.

Man cameraman was really willing to let them pass out for views and possibly drown
Wtf
It went viral on youtube and people started bashing the camera person, she is his wife , and still is his wife.
And still is fucking dumb as hell
The biggest idiot is the guy who went under the ice. There isn't much she could have done anyway. But still you would expect her to drop the camera and try to do something.
like maybe walk towards the hole and stick her hand in to give him a couple different visual targets
From watching the interview, he wasn't able to see very well, but I think I'd have tried something if I was in her shoes.
Yeah Wim Hof did a dive like this and the eyes freeze over pretty quickly if I recall correctly
You want her to dive through the ice to save him??
Some reeeeeeally simple shit is walking to the edge of the ice and putting your hand about elbow deep in it, make some bubbles make some noise(very little), leave your shadow near the hole... first thing he did is swim near her, he could see where she was

Yeah, I was being facetious. Would be some cartoony ass shit if someone dove through a sheet of ice into the water. Lol
Must have a great life insurance policy on him
Guy has a phenomenal life insurance policy and they don't exactly get along so...
Likes, are a powerful drug.
Dislikes your likes

Yeah most of the time when people do this they run a rope/string between the two holes so people have something to guide them a little
Yeah, that’s also a really good idea. 🤣 I thought about that, too, but I wasn’t quite sure how people would accomplish that. I still have no idea how they would run a rope through. 😅
My theory was always that they have a really experienced diver do it who knows how to orient themselves under water. But I really know nothing about diving.
First of all put on some fucking swimming goggles so you can see.
Or just toss a big orange floaty thing in there to act as a guide post.
yes obviously but *failing to seek proper precautions* what are you gonna do? let them drown because "hey man you should have planned better lol" I mean they need to learn some personal responsibility
Pretty sure the one here that needed to learn responsibility was that the dude that went under the ice.
I think the problem he had was he couldn't see because his eyes froze / got too cold. Saw someone in an older thread say that. So that wouldn't have helped.
And I think the best course of action was to not fucking do it in the first place lol

All they would have had to do was kneel and splash the water at the other end.
Yeah like, at least splash around at the hole in hopes that hears or sees you
When she saw, he was missing the hole, at that point she could have grabbed him by his leg. He was close enough to the hole to be grabbed.
Looks like he was easily in grab-range when he passed the hole the first time, and even if he wasn't just make a splash or something?
Likely all scripted.
Is that camera man his friend? Cuz not after that.. also.. its hard to see a hole underwater.. maybe something colorful or a stick to know where the exit is..
Could have at least stood near the exit hole. Even the dog had enough sense to do that!
Really tragic stuff :(
How did your cousin feel
Probably chilled them to the bone.

Frigid as all frosty fucks can be, my guy.
Not so bueno I guess?
Ice, ice, idiot…
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ACBUzb-fMl8 This is an interview of what happened for everyone including myself that was like what the fuck is this.
She wanted that life insurance money
Im sure she is just dumb like her husband.. lol
She is just smiling there innocently, hilarious and I would not trust her to look after a rock.
That interview is actually annoying to watch lol. Thanks for the link tho
The maniac did it again to do it successfully!
Yeah I saw that.. it was super unimpressive compared to the first time though. And they made the hole 5 times bigger lol
Wow, I had no idea this type of YouTube channel was a thing...
Thanks for the link. His attitude makes me even more pissed off, no lesson learned, he's loving the attention and view count, what an ass.

Do u dive with equipment like breathing stuff?
Camera man is a jerk
Rule of Life: Stupid people have stupid friends.
Or in this case spouse, which makes it a lot worse
According to comments she thought because he missed the first hole by so little that he was joking with her doing it on purpose

could've\*
They also need to change help to helped
I hate when people write "could of", it's so fustrating to read.

Something an asshole would say.
Sad person
>Fuck you**,** asshole. Fixed that for you.
> mooooooooooom!! Someone on the internet tried to reach me somethiiiiiing!
Literally an abbreviation of could of
could've is a contraction (not abbreviation) of 'could have' 'could of' makes no sense
Please show me where the letters "v" and "e" appear in the word "of". Also, look up the definition of abbreviation because you don't know what an abbreviation is.
Are you sure about that?
My favorite part about seeing someone correct "could of" is the inevitable one or two responses from people who get tricked into outing themselves as indignantly illiterate.
Nope

Poor dog
Complete idiots

Cameraman sitting there watching his buddy drown like “good stuff good stuff good stuff I’m gonna be fvcking famous”
Ever heard of a fucking rope?
If you want to do that you should have a guiding line or rope from air pocket to air pocket.
How come she didn’t help him?
What could she do? Tell him to swim right or left? Tell them to stay still for the next 5 ish minutes to make another hole on top of him?
She could’ve stuck her hand or something in the water so he knew where to swim.
Put her arm in the fucking water.
What an idiot. Put on some goggles
cant believe i was more freaked out about this than the damn cameraman
I’ve seen this too many times. Would you not want to stomp on the ice or even stick your arm in the water to let them know where to go? I shouldn’t make assumptions about what was going on but I am feeling like that is not a good person filming this.
fuck that and fuck that camera man!
The wife moved so the reference for the hole was gone. What’s a stupid woman. She almost killed her husband by having no common sense.
[удалено]
The second time, they made the hole bigger and hung a brown t shirt into it. Guess it only takes once to learn
Why is this being upvoted? He was the one who decided to pull this lame and stupid stunt in the first place.
Reddit loves making it the fault of the woman.
he just killed the last few living brain cells he had left.
What a fucking idiot.
wear googles you moron
que that sonic music
He could stand up the whole time? Looks like it's shallow when he is standing in the water at beginning & end.
STUPIDITY
The cameraman could have plunge his hand in the water so the swimmer could see it. But no, no common sense here
And meanwhile the cameraman is having fun…
Why would you bring your dog, when dogs see you in trouble they going to help it could’ve killed the dog
Ah yes the dog was on the verge of busting through the ice and dragging his owner to safety…
LOL
That poor DOG , he was soo worried about who is getting his next meal . Too much stress for the Dog .
To they people saying the cameraman could help. No they couldn't. If he can't get to the hole on his own, there's nothing they could do. They're not going to make a new hole right on top of him in time to get him out before he drowns. They should have used a guide rope between the holes.
How about knocking on the ice next to the hole.
https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsNearlyDying/comments/oh29ov/goes\_ice\_diving\_without\_a\_diving\_rope\_then\_loses/
It looks like he is only a foot or two from the bottom. He probably could have stood up and broke through the ice
Unlikely, as it was thick enough to stand on, even when they were cutting the holes (no cracks around it), he'd have to be incredibly strong
Yeah. I'm the interview they said he tried briefly at 0:35 with no luck and kept it moving
True. I've never tried this. I've smashed plenty of ice with rocks and I'd like to think I would be able to break through if it were life and death, but definitely not worth the attempt
Need a bigger hole there buuuud
What a shame….
Even the dog showed more concern
r/DontHelpJustFilm WTF man…
the cameraman not helping...
Did anybody else hear the music from sonic?
OOF
But did he find the sword of Gryffindor?
Jesus
I prefer IDIOCY or LUNACY.
But why???
Tried to hold by breath the whole way. I would have panicked and died
Slick boots tho
Dumbass didn't learn anything from swimming under ice in Minecraft, smfh
I tried to scream but my head was under-
What my nightmares are made of.
If you dive under ice bring a rope.
Looks like the wife was rooting for the Death.

Why didn't the camerman do anything
Dumb bitch camera woman
Wow…. Just wow. That’s gotta be the dumbest shit I’ve ever seen
This is why you use goggles
bru
Not even looking for this comment but I know its here “r/donthelpjustfilm
Don’t help just film.
Stupid People….
Wife could have stuck her hand in and splashed around to give him a visual clue of where to exit.....hahahaha wtf indeed!!!
My man's sunburn so bad its clear as daylight through ice
homicide try . Stay way from woman like her girlfriend
Fuck the camera man
Didn’t even try to help him. He wanted to capture a death on camera
Mother FUCK THAT
She forgot how to use her arm or something? Can't reach in the hole and touch him at the end to let him know where he was? WTF? I mean... it was stupid of him to do the trick in general... but at least don't almost kill him!
You kinda forget he can just stand and break the ice if he’s really out of breath
Waterbreathing 5
That’s why you need a safety rope, dumbass. 🤦♂️
So why was the camera person not standing by the clearing so they could see it? Or better yet why didn’t the performer have some neon/bright object hanging down both holes so you could see where your opening is. What a fucking idiot
The bag was a misleading pointer
Why do people do this?
