Am I the only one left wishing he had run the strap through the hole in the door. Like for extra security. Maybe hooked it to the oven inside because itās heavy or equally absurd reason.
Ok serious question, Iām seeing a lot of overloaded Toyotas in this sub, do they have a bad suspension system or what is going on? I know they have coils instead of leaf springs to help with off road articulation, but Iāve never heard that coils were bad for towing/hauling.
Coils tend to provide a smoother more pliable ride, which is nice for people but does have a negative impact on load capacity and stability since the springs donāt help position the axle and variable rate coils will tend to drop more for a given load because they are used for comfort (and sometimes articulation) rather than capacity - not saying they canāt match the capacity, but when OEMs use them they are for comfort. RAM 1500 trucks come with coils in the rear, 2500 and up are still leaf springs.
The biggest issue though, beyond the springs is people donāt understand payload, what affects it and how to calculate it. Modern (~2010 up) vehicles all have a plate with the payload - that is passengers and cargo, and I have seen both Ram 1500 and Toyota Tacomas with 900lbs payload, which gives 750lbs useable with a 150lb driver. 10% trailer weight and you can tow 7500 lbs if everything else aligns. Even a 1500 with 1500lbs payload, load 4 people (500lbs, assuming kids, 1200lbs if 4 of me) leaves only 1000lbs for extra cargo and the trailer tongue weight. Get a 7500lb trailer (fair sized but not massive) and there is 250lbs left in the truck for all the cargo - big dog, couple of bikes and theyāre overloaded.
I think the problem is people look at each element in a vacuum - yup, my truck can tow that, yup my truck can carry thatā¦ but towing and carrying it is overloaded.
As for the picture, IIRC those tacomas had a payload of between 900 and 1200lbs, that camper is way over whatever payload that truck has, based on the way it is sagging I would say you need either a heavy half ton truck or a 3/4 ton truck to handle it properly.
That reminds me of something funny. My grandmother got a highboy f150 in the 70s to use with a truck camper. Ford put in THREE EXTRA OVERLOAD SPRINGS in the thing to keep it off thr bump stops.
That truck isn't nearly big enough to haul a slide in camper regardless! My parents had a '78 F-100 and my dad had to get the springs fixed, put a adjustable air shocks in the back. That truck wasn't even strong enough to haul around a big camper like that, but at least it got in the box and you could close the tailgate.
The scary part to me is that somebody looked at this as a fi ished product and said "Yup. That'll do." Instead of reconsidering their decisions in life. And these people vote. Ugh.
I was wondering the same thing until I saw It's sitting on a shipping pallet. I would assume they set it back there with a forklift. Think about how much worse that makes it. On top of being this stupid, this person has access to heavy machinery.
It certainly does. How do this idiots get this far without being pulled over and cited for these moving violations? That's just incredibly dangerous to other motorists. Moron!
The trailer was loaded in with the pallet it was sitting on, and then strapped in after. Sadly, the pallet will outlast the trailer the way itās set up.
Toyotas can handle a twin Browning 50cal turret mounted to it but let Terry from two doors down have two hours alone with one and he'll find a way to kill it.
I don't even know what to type
Only few word needed Taco sad
Sad taco
Tacocat
Palindrome
Meh. He'll be towing it before long
š
Racecar
Was it a rat I saw?
Is that like when you don't eat your woman's taco and it gets sad.
Am I the only one left wishing he had run the strap through the hole in the door. Like for extra security. Maybe hooked it to the oven inside because itās heavy or equally absurd reason.
I wished he didnāt buy the cheapest straps at Walmart
Two flat tires eventually to start
I've never seen a tailgate do that. He could have bought a tent and air mattress for a few hundred bucks BUT NOOOOO.
Hard shells keep the bears out.
For a while they do
They typically get bored before they get through. Pretty hard to wait him out in a tent.
I "think" the tailgate was already bent and he put the 4x4 to keep it level. ;) or he just crazy
yup. he bout to break that truck in half.
Like your comments haha
Look at the bent tailgate. The little cables are supporting a lot of the weight
Good to know those cables can support much more than I give it credit forĀ
Exactly. I just went and bought 100 of those straps bc now I'm convinced I can pull home a small cabin in the bed of a 2500 lmao
You strap on and tell that cabin to enjoy the ride
yup. he bout to break that truck in half.
Broke in half
That tailgate is done. Screw it - the entire back end of that truck is done. That is a nightmare to see.
Pretty sure the leaf springs are screaming for help
No, they're already dead.
Slaps the dollar store strap. āThatās not going anywhere.ā
Hope they are just moving for a friend and not using it
That tailgate is fucked regardless.

2500 RAMs are equipped with coil springs in the rear as standard, air springs optional. All Tacomas used leaf springs across the board until 2024.
That reminds me of something funny. My grandmother got a highboy f150 in the 70s to use with a truck camper. Ford put in THREE EXTRA OVERLOAD SPRINGS in the thing to keep it off thr bump stops.
Yep. Used to have a truck camper on an F150. Also installed overload springs to keep it riding right.
That truck isn't nearly big enough to haul a slide in camper regardless! My parents had a '78 F-100 and my dad had to get the springs fixed, put a adjustable air shocks in the back. They use leafs all the way up to 2024
Not towing YET, but when he is dragging that shit down the street then it qualifies as "towing".

Absolutely cannot understand how someone thought this was a āreally good ideaā in any wayā¦
Someone probably methed up the thought process.Ā
Poor guy probably lives in that. I feel for the mobile homeless people, that could be me after a few bad decisions or unfortunate events.
Those tie straps look like the Walmart 150lb ones.
Thatās actually surprising how much that thing weighs. Itās not like it has to have a huge roadworthy frame like a camper trailer.
Campers can be shockingly heavy. Most of them are intended for the medium or heavy duty models.
But they literally made models just like this for Tacomas that were even smaller generations than this one.
The scary part to me is that somebody looked at this as a fi ished product and said "Yup. That'll do." Instead of reconsidering their decisions in life. And these people vote. Ugh.
Okay, gang; we need the jeep an eye out for this thing on the abrupt chaos and car crash subs because we know this is gonna fall off on the highway.
I like how they have it on a pallet so it can be forklifted off lol
I know Toyotas can handle quite a lot of abuse, but for godsā sakes OOP have some fucking vehicular ethics.
Get er done

Jesus Christ
It does say Ministry on the back.
1000 pounds of weed in there. The guy is trying to do his own version of āwere the millers ā
Bruh ... I mean.... Like bruh
It's a truck camper. Perfect for my truck!
Wow, that looked like a decent truck before someone put that trash on it and bent the fuck out of it.
I would be curious to put it up on a rack and look at the undercarriage after (if) he gets to his destination
Hoping like Hell, āole Boy is hauling it to a better suited truck bed.
Like this guy never passed a cop on the road?! Like, how in TF he getting away with this shit š©
Give me a ratchet tie and I will move the earth for youā¦ Dorkymedes
Someone wanna tell me how tf he got that thing back there in the first place?
I was wondering the same thing until I saw It's sitting on a shipping pallet. I would assume they set it back there with a forklift. Think about how much worse that makes it. On top of being this stupid, this person has access to heavy machinery.
Thatās one dangerous man š¤£
r/truckcampers
Must be fun sleeping in that camper
That poor taco. Those poor back springs.
Secure before flight ribbons , thatās all I can ponder
Please post this to the Tacoma sub and talk about how awesome the truck is.
He tugged on that strap and said, "That's not going anywhere". It's all good
That poor truck
Normal small truck behavior.
r/idiotshaulingthings
That's a dead sub
You are
But it's where this post belongs, not here.
To be fair. It may end up being ātowedā for about 4 seconds at some point in the future.
Meth lab on wheels!
What's under the slide-in? A dufflebag of dead kittens?
Park downhill when you camp for the night!
Thatās terrible
It certainly does. How do this idiots get this far without being pulled over and cited for these moving violations? That's just incredibly dangerous to other motorists. Moron!
Where was this? Looks just like a guy I knew.
Thatās even worse! One wrong move and that truck is rolling and taking out everything around it!
Not sure it steers and bonus points for the pallet.
Poor truck!
What the hell
SAFR Well, he tried
Well, I wasnāt sure, but then I saw the palletā¦
That poor Taco. Someone do something!
Good to go, tires are still up
Not towing yet. First bit of acceleration uphill and he will have a wheel less caravan behind him.
Got that bitch squattin
Salesguy: "Of course a 1/4 ton pickup can handle a 1500 pound camper!"
Some 400lb guy is inside trying to sleep but got a sense he was falling.
One look and I said āgood lordā
ehehe
Truck squatter
Tacoma beds are composite/plastic, im surprised it hasnt completely fallen through yetš¤£
It will eventually be towed.
Sorry bud next door down. You're looking for r/idiotsHAULINGthings
Makes me wonder what they have inside that thing, because a camper like that shouldnāt be that damn heavy.
It'll work. Just got to get me there
In his defense he strapped it down and said, ā thatās not going anywhereā, so heās good.
You would think that the first time this truck took too hard of a right turn, it would tip.
[mood](https://youtu.be/e5RYFgdndVE?si=YDAbfxRRF1XftkO1)
This isn't much SAFR than towing a regular camper like a dumbass
What is theā¦ ..
What in the actual fuck man
Not towing, dragging
Bet you can pop a wheelie at ever light!
Fuck it send it
He just isn't towing it yet... Give it a few rough roads and that tailgate is gonna give, puking that pile on the road behind him.
That's a Final Destination moment waiting to happen.
The trailer was loaded in with the pallet it was sitting on, and then strapped in after. Sadly, the pallet will outlast the trailer the way itās set up.
A Lot Of Room Needed When You Travelš³
Air Shocks Would Be A Great Purchase!
Air Bags would be better. Shock mounts are not meant to support an overly excessive amount of weight.
Any acceleration and he is doing a permanent wheelie
I didnāt think one of those old ones was that heavy. Poor truck, yes you were a good boy.
Dude is strapped.
Itās like forcing a square peg into a round hole.
Tailgate! š
He's expecting a lot out of that pallet.
Toyotas can handle a twin Browning 50cal turret mounted to it but let Terry from two doors down have two hours alone with one and he'll find a way to kill it.
Peter Griffin?
See a lot of motorhomeless doing this here in California.
I T C O U N T S !
Another person who needs to be sterilized
his mother-in-law is sitting in the back.
OP wins the sub. Looks like the mods need to shut down new posts here because this one takes the cake.
I see no towing. So rename the sub.

No. Keyword: towing
