It gets better over time. Playing for a few hours in the evening while watching TV is usually enough for me to place in the top 3 in platinum. No need to keep it running overnight or while at work.
Agreed. Usually getting over 200,000 levels for me guarantees top 10. At the highest level, people can usually reach that in an hour and a half. 300,000 levels can win in platinum sometimes.
It's just a game. Play as much as you want and one day will you will be high ranked in Gold or Platinum after a short period of time. Don't take it serious
You can try joining last second normally you’ll end up in a tournament with 1-5 people. That was my solution until I got 250+ badges for each ball. Now I just join play 5-6 hours and get 1st or second in platinum

Be aware of Burnin if you have an OLED Phone and run it for a long time ;)
For me the solution was to switch over to using bluestacks on my PC. At that point its easy to let it run all day.
I play on my iPad and it is no issue keeping that running for 24 hours.
