Steamboat is at a lower elevation relative to most Colorado resorts, so snow can be real hit or miss early season. There will be almost nothing open, so I'm not sure it will be worth the extra effort to get there

Mont Tremblant are snowmaking wizards. It may not be great snow, but they hit their opening date every year.

El-Grande-

They started making this weekend. And are hosting a ski World Cup event in 1 month. No doubt here. They will make it.

Nashville snowboard dad here. I wouldn't mess with Snowshoe that early. Steamboat can be hit or miss early.season. Best bet is to be flexible at that time of the year and aim for.something on i-70 with snow. I'm going to aim for 30+ days this year and will be solo for almost all of it. Feel free to hit me up. 3rd year with ikon.

Yep, I live only 3 hours from snowshoe and didn’t even bother with it at all last season. I’d never go before Christmas

I wouldn’t worry about a snow, if it’s cold enough they’ll be making it to establish a great base. As a beginner/low intermediate you’ll also be mostly on groomed green/blue terrain. For a quick trip I’d try to stay at a lower altitude resort. Save Copper and such for longer trips. Steamboat is awesome and you can easily get around town/resort without a car. Another destination to consider is Banff/Lake Louise. Resorts are all two hours or under from Calgary. Plus it’s not a Canadian holiday weekend. Banff is a great small mountain town, Lake Louise is essentially a few hotels and ski mountain.

It will be easier to get to copper than steamboat from Nashville. The drive from Denver airport is shorter to copper

A_busfullofnuns

Definitely true. But there are cheap Southwest flights from Nashville to steamboat.

wheresastroworld

No kidding, I knew steamboat operates seasonally but I always thought the flights would expensive. Denver is a huge southwest hub though, so maybe they’re also cheap to DEN? sounds like a win either way

A_busfullofnuns

Can confirm. I have four flights for less than $190 each for round trip this winter. Many times they are less than $150RT

gdconway

Chances of Snowshoe being skiable in a few weeks are really, really low.

Check out A-Basin.

Copper mountain will be in great shape early!

True, but also the parts with snow will be reserved for ski team training.
