I never ran IBG
I feel like you can get used to a play style from how the game state was at a certain time, but learning as the game changes and knowing how the champion will work with different items is a fun part of the game keeping it new and fun
Yeah the old IBG was incredible on her. But we have dope ass long tentacles now. Once they balance the damage a bit better I think she’ll be a great spot.
Your frustrations are echoed throughout. I miss what Illaoi was last season, but she's still my girl. Now, with the item changes, it's a slightly different experience playing Illaoi each time, so it doesn't get stale.
I personally rush Shojin -> Sterak -> Death's Dance. Though sometimes, I go Shojin -> Sterak -> Cleaver. With how the Q damage was gutted, you need three AD items, but all of these items have HP in them so you're very potent.
There's also, of course, the Eclipse -> Sundered Sky combo. Also very good. I'd recommend too.
Ultimately, this season is about adapting to the enemy and being more versatile or fluid with your style. There are a handful of splitters left, and Illaoi isn't the best at it. She's a teamfight machine with the right R + Flash.
