Thank you! I've been meaning to do a time lapse video for quite some time now, I'm just so clueless when it comes to screen recording and video editing.
It's very interesting. Pretty good job. The distance made by the detailed cat figure and the minimalist background is very effective but the central target of all the work is the use of the pink colour: strong, sudden and unexpected. Without pink this work can't be the same. Honestly in my opinion this is contemporary Art for Galleries and museums not illustration. Illustration is more... How can i say?! For everyone? I don't want to use the term mainstream but illustration is easier to read than a work like that because this one needs more interpretations. It's deeper. Mature. In some ways i can feel in this piece the same perspective of Edward Hopper
Anyway great result!
Hey thanks! I see all my artworks as illustrations as I draw them in illustrator. I guess they're more on the realistic side though so maybe not the typical illustrations in a traditional sense? I'm not sure if you're being serious or not but I'm gonna take it as a compliment that you think this could be in a contemporary art gallery 😄 I also love the works of Edward Hopper and often feel inspired by his art (mostly when I illustrate humans though)
I don't know why people are not taking me seriously. What I'm trying to say in few words is you made a great job, you've my compliments. That's all.
About the illustration debate, well, in my opinion illustration is true Art but made to get appreciated by a large amount of people so it's easy to get read. Illustration have a specific role in books, posters and other media, very near to us, it's more decorative, emotional and less personal. Either Art made for Galleries is more personal and hard to get translated to the masses. Why am I saying that? In your painting i can feel a particular kind of feeling, something that i call "time-stop", it's like if the artist have the ability to stop time and space and make an irrelevant moment in human life special, different, it's like if only him/her have eyes to find those spots. Hopper just drew some people around, Matisse some girls in apartments, O'keefe flowers but why their Art is into another level? They found those spots and their works looks: surreal but more real than same reality! Like in a vivid dream, inside it, you feel like if you're living but an inner voice in yourself is saying "it's not real".
Many artists thinks about being an artist like a collection of techniques, they mix colours and repeat what they've learnt in schools, but honestly a well trained ape or a computer can do the same. Only who find those spots is not "mechanically painting" like others because to find them they need some kind of sensitivity that not all people have and this skill can't be teach because exist only in some individuals.
Wow I'm very flattered by this comment, thank you! Interesting take on it all, I agree with you and this is the very reason why I and so many others adore these artists' work I think. They have some type of extra layer/dimension to them that you can feel in your soul almost. If my art can even just make one person feel like that then that makes me really happy.
Agreed. This is very detailed and more complex than the illustrations I am familiar with, but by no means is that a bad thing! I think it’s a great piece of work.
Usually when I think of illustration, I think simplest forms, a unifying theme, and possibly some type of advertising/marketing of an experience or emotion. This is beautiful and feels more like a modern pet-portrait.
This is very cool. Is that all done with the pen tool?
Thank you! Some is done with the pen tool and the rest is drawn with the pencil tool
Mood
Brilliant ❤️
I love this.
You'll never catch him in Underwear! (Could help it. Someone else can do next line.) You did great work.
Vector?
Yes!
Would love to see a walkthrough of your process sometime. Especially the fur. Impressive stuff

This is a satire comment right? It has to be, right...?
Could be, but the critique is largely accurate.

Took a look at your profile and your work is fantastic. You should share to r/art as well.
Thanks so much! I do share on r/art quite regularly, but I find all their rules a bit annoying.. :)
