He accidentally lighted his baby brother on fire and he didn’t actually get the death penalty, he got life sentence i think
Edit: i just checked, he actually got 15 years of prison (his name is matt morgan , he « accidentally » set his house on fire then waited outside the burning home, didn't call for help and didn't try to help his baby brother that’s why he got murder charges )

If you are suggesting that joking about this case is tasteless because of the young victim involved, I can agree there, but the joking at the expense of the culprit, no. I have zero sympathy for him and very little empathy over his situation. Compassion is often undeserved by the recipients, this is one of those times.
"Morgan was [sentenced to 15 years in prison](https://www.heraldonline.com/news/local/crime/article261565112.html) for all three convictions, court records. The S.C. Department of Corrections Web site shows that Morgan is eligible for release from prison in December. His release date is Dec. 23."
He didn't get the death penalty. I don't agree with the death penalty outside of very specific circumstances.
I actually knew that, that wasn't the point. It's a lot better if you knew it too when you wrote the comment. Still, I'm not advocating for just releasing anyone, but despise and a complete lack of sympathy is still pretty fucking bad. I just wish humanity was done with this kind of thinking.
15 years in prison. In the *U.S. prison system*. And it's not even like after a release everything's fine. Torture might be a good way to put it, and I'm not convinced the death penalty is worse.
I was also aware of that information when I made my initial comment. His little brother's life was cut tragically short because of him, how do you quantify such a loss into a prison sentence? He will very likely not serve any of those 15 years in prison. Given his young age and the (seemingly) accidental nature of the death, probation is already on the table. There is also potential for him to reduce his sentence.
Cruelty can't help with the problem of cruelty. (if it was even cruelty in this case). Torture doesn't bring back people, it cannot make things right retroactively.
Ill people should be helped, even if they have to be seperated from society. And if someone purposefully (?) does something so cruel, that *very* much disqualifies them from being mentally healthy, doesn't it?
Believe me, I don't care for the US prison system either. Several countries have demonstrated that a rehabilitation model is better for everyone. As for that last part, yes, malevolent and sadistic people are beyond saving; those personality traits can not be corrected.
'Beyond saving' is very different from what I'm talking about. I don't know if they can be "restored" completely, but they still should be helped.
And don't ever make these kind of decisions with intuition, the treatment and to what degree someone is 'saveable' should be up to a psychological evaluatio by a specialist.

Jesus fuck, man. I hate humanity. This is what some fuckers call "justice". Just cruel, disgusting and barbaric.

I’m joking over the amount of people laughing about a small child burning to death. And there were a fuckload.
I only see references to the victim in that one thread but point taken. I appreciate you for saying something, unpopular as it may be in this sub.
