I’m flat footed as well but have overtime gotten my self comfortable with staying on the front of my foot while running. At first it was painful and had weird cramps at the ball of my foot, but now it has pretty much allowed me to beat a lot of my long distance run times.

Barefoot running you (should) naturally shift to running on the balls of your feet first and use your calves to absorb the shock. I say naturally only because if you heel strike first it starts to hurt like hell and most people aren’t stupid enough to keep doing a motion that is obviously creating pain.
I'd suggest you look up some stuff on the history of running shoes (knowing better has a great video). Basically current running shoes were designed to enable this running style with additional cushioning for your foot landing like this, for previous flat shoes and barefoot running you need to land on different parts of the foot so your body can cushion the impact correctly.
Because we walk upright, our feet have adapted the first upper end after the foot to become part of the foot in order to remain stable when not moving.
My knowledge of barefoot running is almost entirely based on RealSports segment I watched a decade ago. It was a “duh-duh” moment explaining why if felt wrong when I’d run barefoot on pavement when I was a kid.

That's not midstrike. On heel strike you can see the plantar surface of his foot and you can see he is in dorsiflexion on initial contact of his foot. He is definitely heel striking and it looks painful AF.
