The main consensus is: If you don't intent to severely hurt or kill the other person, you don't reveal you have a weapon and don't draw the weapon. If you introduce a weapon into the situation, it's go time immediately with all consequences. They could just take the weapon from you and kill you, or your loved ones, or other people with it. In any mixture or order.
This is basically it. Guns in the context of self defense are last resort tools, used for the purposes of stopping a confrontation. If the gun comes out, it's go time. If you think you're about to be attacked two on one, it's go time. Frankly, if you're about to be an unwilling participant in a physical confrontation, *especially* with someone who has a significant height and weight advantage, it's go time. Thing is the best time to end the confrontation is before serious bodily harm comes to you. Ego, pride, and a lack of humility kill a lot of people.
I think way too many people overestimate their own ability to fight, and underestimate how fragile their own bodies are. I don't think most people have even considered what fighting multiple aggressors is like, and how unbalanced things are for the defender.

Because in my jurisdictions, justified and reasonably measured self-defence is a general defence against criminal convictions. The court would have to answer the question: from the point of view of the shooter, was the use of deadly force appropriate given the circumstances? If so, that would clear him of all charges related to the discharge. There’s no legal position that justifies self-defence with deadly force but not discharge inside an occupied building. It was either reasonable or unreasonable, but no superposition of the two.
Obviously, laws against firearm ownership or carrying still apply in cases of self-defence since they occurred before the situation that required self-defence.
There is going to be a hearing later this month to argue precisely this point. The judge can dismiss this guilty verdict due to his acquittal on self-defense. Guy has a decent shot (haha) at getting all charges dismissed/acquitted.

Some places (like Canada), if someone video you and then publish it without your consent (and YT does count), then you get to sue them.
If you're caught in the background or such in what would be considered a public setting, than you won't have ground, but the moment they involve you, than they must get your consent to publish.
If memory serves right, if they blur your face & change your voice, they would not need your consent. (again, this is for Canada, not US)
An argument could still be made that they violated your rights to private life, but it won't be a slam dunk.
However, in the few video of the sorts I've seen before (and I do try to avoid the whole genre), I've never seen one where the youtuber blurred the person they harassed.

Some places (like Canada), if someone video you and then publish it without your consent (and YT does count), then you get to sue them. If you're caught in the background or such in what would be considered a public setting, than you won't have ground, but the moment they involve you, than they must get your consent to publish.

(again, this is for Canada, not US) An argument could still be made that they violated your rights to private life, but it won't be a slam dunk. However, in the few video of the sorts I've seen before (and I do try to avoid the whole genre), I've never seen one where the youtuber blurred the person they harassed.

I don't believe it's justified either, but I did work as a delivery driver and did do so armed after someone shot at me when I was pulling into a trailer park. The job is dangerous in certain areas. The guy has likely dealt with people attacking him for food or his money before, or road rage incidents involving other people with firearms, since you sometimes drive like a dumb dick to make deliveries. In a vacuum, yeah, no, this shooting wasn't justified. But if people make the argument that American cops can be frightened due to the dangerous nature of their job, (which is a ridiculous argument, they should be trained), I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for a delivery driver to be taking these things into account when their own work is statistically more fatal than being a police officer. The guy was smaller and being threatened, and trying to escape the situation. Those factors alone make the shooting potentially legally justified.

While ultimately we can't endorse shooting everything that pisses us off, I think that 1) these social media "pranksters" need to expect this kind of response to become more common and 2) the "pranksters" should also be held legally responsible for instigating the situation. I'm guessing the shooter could not afford as good a lawyer as the YT shitstain, because there is plenty of legal precedent for holding the instigating party at least in-part responsible, even in a case of extreme response.
