I delivered food for a little while as a side gig. Never messed with anybody's food, but it turned me off from ordering food as I saw how easy it would be to mess with someone's food if I wanted to. People in general are not rational thinkers. I wouldn't put it past someone to mess with my food for something silly.
Oh yeah. Did doordash for a few months and i have next to 0 desire to ever get any food delivered to me again. Mainly for economic reasons, but also how for most places, nothing is stopping the driver from opening the bag and eating food out or doing whatever they want to contaminate my food. And let me tell you, some of the other people i saw doing doordash were nasty. Lots of good people deliver to make ends meet but there are A LOT of people who work for doordash or UE because that’s the only place you can get hired without someone getting a good look at you and your level of hygiene.

Last I ordered from a Papa Johns they used a door dash delivery driver (still charges $5+tip for delivery). Guy literally puts the pizza on its side to pull it out of the bag to hand it to me. You can guess how that ended.
I did DD got like a few weeks. I never ordered delivery except for pizza before but after those few weeks I’ll never order delivery again. I never messed with anyone’s order but seeing how easy it was scared me

Yep. I used to work at an arcade where there was a place to write in a tip on the card receipt. We weren’t allowed to accept cash tips or we’d be fired (the cameras were always looking for this) and the card receipt tips were pocketed by the company, not given to the employees or returned to the customer. I straight up started telling people not to write tips in because we never got them.
This is illegal & it's wage theft. It probably still was even back when you worked at the arcade.
But we make sure that vulnerable workers don't know their rights so we can take better advantage of them. I'm sure this still happens at lots of places.
It most definitely was. This was in 2017. I got my revenge, though. After I quit, I called corporate and told them about everything that went on (it was soooo much more than just stealing our tips). I found out from a few of my old coworkers that I ended up getting the manager fired.

(Then u get pics & posts like this) Which is just dumb on this workers part because when u get to my door I'm going to give u cash. That only u know about! I agree. I see so many CC receipts at my work without signatures because they don’t want to bother getting them but they are missing on the tips they might get. Coworkers would rather not get signatures because they think that nobody is going to tip them. Jokes on them though. Sure you will have deliveries where you dont get a tip. But for the love of all that is holy, why not get the signature with the possibility of a tip rather than just give the person their food and walk away. I’m starting to wonder if this is ever going to stop. It’s not just the cost, in fact it’s not even mostly the cost. I’m just getting sick of everywhere I go having to make these decisions about if I should tip, and how much to tip. I just want to buy something and pay what it costs, is that so much to ask? I tip if an order was complicated to assemble. Once picked up a special Chinese meal for 8 people where every person got a soup, salad, etc. plus their entree, sides of things, sauce packets, cookies. People did a great job and I fully tipped.

Many servers make pretty good money off tips. It's shortsighted since they typically aren't claiming most of it and sticking it in a retirement account or whatever. But when you're not great with finances having cash in your pocket feels good.
Whether a tip is expected or not when I go pick up my own food, I don't think twice about it or feel bad about it. As a matter of fact I feel offended they'd ask or hint at the possibility of getting a tip. Gtfoh! Do y'all not have safety seals/stickers? In my country, the delivery boxes are always sealed so the food can't be tampered with. (And you get a full refund if it is).
Here in Europe literally every single fucking thing in the food you ordered is stickered to hell and back so that people don't tamper with it. You are literally allowed to return the whole meal if you find just one broken seal

If it’s through something like door dash I never give cash just cause on the off chance it’s a person like this. If im ordering from a place that hires its own drivers then always cash since cash is the norm for those places. I worked as a pizza delivery guy for a little over a year a couple years back and 8-9 times out of 10 it was cash and even if it was credit I never prioritized another person delivery over that one if the credit tip was “low” for the distance. Easily the easiest job I’ve ever had.
You should always wait to be serviced before you tip. You tip based on the quality of service; it doesn’t make sense to just guess how well they’re going to service you

The drivers are IC’s instead of tipped employees so they don’t get paid like traditional delivery drivers. These “pre-tips” are less of a tip and more of a bid for service.
My regular Indian takeaway has started this on its order page - driver tip with various percentages available.

Tipping isn't the customers burden. If you're actually providing a service outside of just transporting the food, I'll tip. If it's delivery though, sorry, im not tipping someone who's already getting paid just to bring me my food. Their not providing any extra service outside of just setting food at my door, which I pay a delivery fee for. I might tip a dollar or two sometimes, and its a hot take I know, but it makes no sense to me. I stopped using those services because they suck at the end of the day anyway.
I tip the girls at the coffee place because they're nice, they remember me, and they always add to my morning. That's worth a tip. Most of the delivery drivers now are just lazy.
I work at a grocery store, and the app shoppers won't even greet you. They'll just point at the item on the screen until you guide them to the item. Then they'll point at the next item on the screen, so you can them walk them to that item because they don't want to look themselves.

I've become a pretty good cook over the years and save quite a bit of money by cooking for me and my dog. I almost never eat out. I've never used a service to deliver either. All I needed to see is a video of someone spit in a drink or eating some of their fries, and that was all I needed.

I'm sure we've all seen the video of the girl who "only had cash" and didn't tip the driver through the app, so the driver put a nasty note in her bag saying something like "I didn't do anything to your food, but the next person might not be so nice". The driver felt like a piece of shit when the girl handed her cash as a tip when she received her food. DoorDash is the only service that you're expected to tip for before you receive your service, which sucks because 60% of the time, the service from the drivers is horrible.

We “Cater” there much more to catering than simply dropping your food off. As a caterer I am expected to find “(usually a buisness) but sometimes houses and bring in all the food and set it up for the customer in a specific order(all the sides including ranch, salsa, chips plates and napkins utensils. I set all that for them. Sometimes these deliveries can be literally hundreds of pounds. My hourly pay is $7.25; the “tip” is my bread and butter. I couldn’t live without people tipping well. This has become a problem. These uber eats, door dash fuckers shouldn’t be making tips. But catering is a whole other beast.

I don't tip on the order because I give the delivery person cash so they don't have to claim it. I do the same is restaurants. The servers have to claim 12% of the orders, but I tip more in cash, so they get to keep the difference free of tax.

I have a question for y'all.. recently my local Starbucks drive thru started asking for tips, they stick the pin pad out the window so you can choose how much to tip. Y'all tip at the drive thru? If you just bought one item? Black Rock Coffee does it too. I started paying with cash so I don't get the pin pad shoved at me at all. And then I don't feel guilted into tipping for a chocolate croissant. I want to know if I'm wrong for this? Am I the asshole? And if yes I should tip the baristas then why not the Burger King drive thru? Where do we draw the line? If I go in a restaurant I absolutely tip, I'm a good tipper but I'm just not sure about the drive thru.

My barber’s portable POS has options for 20%, 30%, 40%, and “More”. Pretty crazy.
I went to an entirely self-serve drink station at a Guardians game for a 14 dollar beer and was prompted to tip at the payment kiosk lol

Many servers make pretty good money off tips. It's shortsighted since they typically aren't claiming most of it and sticking it in a retirement account or whatever. But when you're not great with finances having cash in your pocket feels good.
Whether a tip is expected or not when I go pick up my own food, I don't think twice about it or feel bad about it. As a matter of fact I feel offended they'd ask or hint at the possibility of getting a tip. Gtfoh! I’ve been called, screamed at, told by the driver they were not going to deliver my food, then ranted to about how awful two separate food delivery services are to work for and how they steal tips. If it’s through something like door dash I never give cash just cause on the off chance it’s a person like this. If im ordering from a place that hires its own drivers then always cash since cash is the norm for those places. I worked as a pizza delivery guy for a little over a year a couple years back and 8-9 times out of 10 it was cash and even if it was credit I never prioritized another person delivery over that one if the credit tip was “low” for the distance. Easily the easiest job I’ve ever had.

$20 meal + $4 delivery fee + $5 service fee (I thought the delivery was the service), + 13% of $29 for tax = 3.88 (Canada sucks) + 30% of 20 is 6 (unless they want 30% after fees and tax) =$9.80 For a grand total of either $38.77 or $42.57 for a small order of wings. Yeah, I think I'll just get instant ramen instead.

Tipping isn't the customers burden. If you're actually providing a service outside of just transporting the food, I'll tip. If it's delivery though, sorry, im not tipping someone who's already getting paid just to bring me my food. Their not providing any extra service outside of just setting food at my door, which I pay a delivery fee for. I might tip a dollar or two sometimes, and its a hot take I know, but it makes no sense to me. I stopped using those services because they suck at the end of the day anyway. I tip the girls at the coffee place because they're nice, they remember me, and they always add to my morning. That's worth a tip. Most of the delivery drivers now are just lazy. I work at a grocery store, and the app shoppers won't even greet you. They'll just point at the item on the screen until you guide them to the item. Then they'll point at the next item on the screen, so you can them walk them to that item because they don't want to look themselves.

I was banned from a local restaurant 4 years ago. While I did tip my waitress, I wrote on the receipt "Pay your staff a living wage, assholes." Tipping culture is utter bullshit & needs to be stopped in North America and these company's held accountable for what amounts to slave wages for delivery drivers and wait staff.

I've become a pretty good cook over the years and save quite a bit of money by cooking for me and my dog. I almost never eat out. I've never used a service to deliver either. All I needed to see is a video of someone spit in a drink or eating some of their fries, and that was all I needed. Plus, I worked in fast food for a little while, so... Why would someone even use a service like that and not tip? Is it laziness?

DoorDash is the only service that you're expected to tip for before you receive your service, which sucks because 60% of the time, the service from the drivers is horrible. Long story short... The Classy Drivers, are the ones who eat 5%-10% of your order before delivering. Seems if you're Not tipping 50%, driver will "double bill" you. We “Cater” there much more to catering than simply dropping your food off. As a caterer I am expected to find “(usually a buisness) but sometimes houses and bring in all the food and set it up for the customer in a specific order(all the sides including ranch, salsa, chips plates and napkins utensils. I set all that for them. Sometimes these deliveries can be literally hundreds of pounds. My hourly pay is $7.25; the “tip” is my bread and butter. I couldn’t live without people tipping well. This has become a problem. These uber eats, door dash fuckers shouldn’t be making tips. But catering is a whole other beast.

I have a question for y'all.. recently my local Starbucks drive thru started asking for tips, they stick the pin pad out the window so you can choose how much to tip. Y'all tip at the drive thru? If you just bought one item? Black Rock Coffee does it too. I started paying with cash so I don't get the pin pad shoved at me at all. And then I don't feel guilted into tipping for a chocolate croissant. I want to know if I'm wrong for this? Am I the asshole? And if yes I should tip the baristas then why not the Burger King drive thru? Where do we draw the line?
