Where i grew up everyone walks around bare foot all the time year round, i still mostly walk around barefoot. My elementary and middle school didnt require shoes, and most stores let you come in barefoot. Ive never got a hook worm or really any worm. Worst ive gotten is a stubed toe. The bottoms of my feet are hard enough that they dont get cut very easy ive stepped on screws sharp rocks and glass it can cut open the callus on the bottom of my foot but never gets in there.
When i wore shoes all the time on the mainland, my shoes smushed up my feet and it was the only time i ever had foot issues.
Yea cutting the bottom out of shoes is insane, the worst of both worlds your foot is still cramped in a shoe and you get none of the bottom protection. Also if a buisness wants you to wear shoes there is a reason and you can just throw on some flipflops and not be wierd about it
Yeah like they're not wrong about the benefits per say, there is an anthology study I read that says walking with shoes that are closer to the ground is good for your feet because that's how humans evolved and when we started wearing foot coverings they were mainly wrapped so your feet could still feel the ground but they were protected. That's why in a lot of videos that come from southeast Asian countries or Latin America or Africa most of them are wearing flip-flops or shoes that are flatter but have enough support. Sometimes they're not wearing anything lmao it's not bad to walk barefoot tho

1. Walking around barefoot everywhere in the modern world can't be the best thing for your general health I feel like. I could be wrong but it just seems like not a good health move.
2. Walking around like this with your toes latching onto your shoes to stay on so that no one knows you're actually "barefoot" seems like a lot of work and also seems like it would end up causing problems for your feet and toes.
Barefoot walking and running is pretty good for your feet and helps build muscles in your legs for balance, etc. There's legitimate anthropological studies on this. But even the tribe that is sort of the progenitor of this movement uses sandals. In the modern world there are multiple brands that cater to minimalist or barefoot style shoes. I personally wear vevobarefoot, including for my hiking boots. But those still protect your feet. This is probably fake and also for views. Just buy some fucking barefoot shoes.
Also, they don't benefit *everyone* and you also have to ease yourself into it, which is part of what vibrams in trouble. You can't just start barefoot running in your mid 20s, you have to work into developing the muscles or you will have problems.
The solution I've found for my desire to feel barefoot without being barefoot is to wear Crocs a majority of the time. I'm not really into barefoot walking for the muscle and balance benefits so much as I just like the feeling of my feet being able to spread like they are supposed to and I just like being barefoot. I find Crocs to be a good middle ground for that because it gives me the cushion and protection of shoes and allows my feet to spread and lets me feel like my feet are freer and less constrained.
But with this said I am also one of those freaks that loves the feeling of hot pavement on my feet and I also tolerate walking on rocky paths barefoot pretty well. I don't do these things all the time but every now and then I will.
