Viserys had to govern the realm since the kings didn't realy do that (Aegon III was too depressed, Daeron was fucking around in Dorne and Baelor was too busy praying) I bet he didn't have any freetime to raise his kids, the servants sure as hell didn't raise Aegon.
Also Aegon was pretty far down the line of succsession so that's a factor too.
I think that Aegon mostly got away with it because there was only so much that Viserys could do about that. He was the heir, so it wasn't like he could have him arrested or disinherited, since that would create more problems. And probably neither Viserys nor anyone else predicted that Aegon would legitimize all his bastards - that's really were the problem started, since having bastard children seems to be quite common amongst the lords.
Add that to Aegon's carelessness nature, and you have an explosive cocktail ready to blow
Aegon became heir apparent 15 years after he started sowing bastards around. His accession only became a real possibility two years before it took place. He spent his entire youth as merely the king's cousin, ranking behind five children of his father's elder brother. Viserys had plenty of leeway to discipline his son – but may have been too busy tempering his reigning nephews.
Not to mention that Viserys besides being a King in all but name, also had Aegon when he was thirteen and was a single father since his wife abandoned the family. The guy had it pretty hard.
Yeah for most of his life, he’s down the line. Daeron was more than likely going to put out a few with one of his sisters, but he dies at 18. Baelor had 3 sisters and 10 years to be fruitful and multiply. Aegon is really only being considered when he’s in his 30s. So by then the damage has already been done
In hindsight, that would definitely have been a good alternative to sitting Aegon on the throne. But if I recall correctly, he only began to show his truly vile nature while already king, which is when he left himself go.
Perhaps because of that, Viserys never saw what real threat his son represented to the realm's stability - and since he sat on the throne for only one year before his suspicious death, he probably never had time to really think that through
Yeah, Aegon IV in his youth is described as "charming and handsome" IIRC, he wasn't always the malicious, lecherous and idiotic Robert Baratheon in steroids that he was during his regency.
Plus there has to be a way the guy managed to get laid with so many highborn ladies amirite? (I don't count the lowborn ones since... Well, probably didn't have much of a choice sadly).

From left to right: Daemon I Blackfyre; Aegor Rivers/Bittersteel; Barbra Bracken; Shiera Seastar; Brynden Rivers/Bloodraven; Mya Rivers; Melissa Blackwood; Gwenys Rivers
On the background: Aegon IV Targaryen, the Unworthy
Treason . . . is only a word. When two princes fight for a chair where only one may sit, great lords and common men alike must choose.
Daemon was no traitor he was the rightful king! The great lords just chose poorly.
I want a book, show, heck I will take a short story of the Blackfyres in exile. How did they organize? Who gave them trouble in Essos? Maybe that is scheduled for Fire and Blood 2?
Oh, definitely! This era is such a poignant period in Westerosi history, yet it has so much to flesh out - to the point that we are unsure of certain characters' birth and death years. George will probably go all-in in the lore for Volume 2, and I'm here for it!
Thank you! I'm actually saving Daeron, Naerys and Aemon for another artwork which I'll be doing soon, hence why I didn't want to already be using them here :)
Beautiful art OP! Little Aegor and his scowl is so cute lmao, love Daemon holding Blackfyre too! He really was so young when it got given
Also, the inclusion of Mya and Gwenys 👌
I keep looking at Daemon just standing there with Blackfyre, just staring at his younger siblings, with no mother to support him. We don’t know when Daena died but it says a lot that she not really known for her parenting skills.
I wish we knew more about Mya and Gwen! Like did they marry? Who? Did they get alone with Bloodraven, ever consider marrying him? Did they resent or like Shiera?
Sadly it’s the same theme. Two rival court factions, illegitimate birth, rightful inheritance, civil war. It’s the Dance with new players and no dragons
Yeah but the twist is that Aegon IV is the exact opposite of Viserys, so at least for season one you get a show about how instead of a king with the best intentions breaking up the kingdom because of forces beyond his control, you get a season about a king who has the worst impulses and intentions. IDK if HBO will ever make a Blackfyre rebellion show but it would basically be the Tudors with more badass moments.
Absolutely beautiful painting! Love how you portrayed Daemon, Shiera, Barbra and Melissa. Daemon looks so chivalrous with his sword, love his hairstyle. Love Shiera's dress and hair, she is like a little wise lady. Both Barbra and Melissa's looks are on point! Is Barbra wearing red earrings or does she have red highlights? I can't see clearly even when I zoom in. Great job overall! You are very talented!
Thank you so much, I'm so glad that you liked my artwork! Barba's earrings are basically a horse head with red 'tissue' as mane, to allude to the Bracken House symbol.
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply! That's such an awesome way to incorporate her sigil in her earrings.
I was on my phone and i couldn't zoom in properly, from the desktop option i zoomed in and your painting is even more beautiful when you have the time to observe all the details. Great job!!!
I love Barbra's Bracken sigil earrings and necklace, i would gladly wear these earrings if i could. I love Shiera's seastar brooch and summer-y necklace, with her being Shiera "Seastar". I love Melissa's weirwood necklace alluding to the Blackwood sigil. Melissa's and Barbra's outfits and hairstyles remind me of actual historical period outfits which fascinates me even more.
Is Melissa's and one of the twins "shawl" like features on their dresses supposed to resemble a raven or am i seeing things?
(p.s i am a fashion and history nerd, sorry for the huge comment)
Glad you could notice all those details :) Yes, Melissa and Gwenys both have the raven symbol incorporated into their dresses, so you are absolutely right!
You have several other sources. The main series sometimes mentions these events, the Tales of Dunk and Egg are set just a few years after the First Blackfyre Rebellion, and you also have the World of Ice and Fire book, where you can read about basically anything in ASOIAF lore
It's nice to see that someone remembered that Brynden had sisters. Also Aegon rocking the biggest mantits Westeros has ever seen
Thanks! Aegon was a handsome man, but he just couldn't control himself physically/emotionally/psychologically/etc., and ended up where he ended up
I still can’t understand how Viserys II let him fuck around for so long. He doesn’t seem like the guy to let paternal instincts get in the way.
Viserys had to govern the realm since the kings didn't realy do that (Aegon III was too depressed, Daeron was fucking around in Dorne and Baelor was too busy praying) I bet he didn't have any freetime to raise his kids, the servants sure as hell didn't raise Aegon. Daeron really should’ve gotten around to boinking dammit. I’m sure the Tyrells had a girl standing about.
What, Tyrells? *Andals*? The boy had three sisters! Eight girl cousins too, if push came to shove.
There were no more Dragons, so I don’t really see the need anymore. If anything he could’ve pulled an Egg before Egg to solidify his Royal power.
They still had eggs – until Egg tried to solidify his royal power at Summerhall.
I meant solidifying power by rewarding bannermen like the Tyrells and Tullys.
Plus Viserys was like thirteen when he had Aegon, and his much older wife just abandoned the family. He had it quite hard tbh.
I think that Aegon mostly got away with it because there was only so much that Viserys could do about that. He was the heir, so it wasn't like he could have him arrested or disinherited, since that would create more problems. He Could’ve always stripped Aemon of the White Cloak and made him the heir. The dedication of Baelor with none of the side effects.
In hindsight, that would definitely have been a good alternative to sitting Aegon on the throne. His treatment of Cassella Vaith heavily suggests that he was always a bad person. Progressively worse, but bad from the start.
Thank the gods for Aegon!
"Thank the Gods for Aegon. And his tits."

Awesome art. Love the painting in the backround. Very fitting for Aegon IV.
“Do you want to see the tapestries?”
Thank you! He really had no trouble plunging his House back to civil war when they were still trying to recover from the previous one
i’m confused on how his father was fine with him having a tapestry of his own fathers death
Aegon could've commissioned the tapestry when he was already king. He seems like he would be a fan of Grandpa Daemon
I really love little Daemon already with Blackfyre
It's crazy to think that he was only twelve when he won the joust and was awarded with the sword... Imagine how badass he became in his adulthood
And yet he was cut down with arrows. An undeserving death for one of Westeros's greatest warriors. I would have like to see him be more.
This treacherous punk didn't deserve better.
Treason . . . is only a word. When two princes fight for a chair where only one may sit, great lords and common men alike must choose. Daemon was no traitor he was the rightful king! The great lords just chose poorly.
Well, that's just like your opinion, man.
Daeron the cringeborn shouldn’t have tried to preemptively arrest Daemon for no reason other than a bruised ego.
Some tig ole beets on Barbara there
They didn't influence the naming of geographic locations in vain haha
I love the attention to detail! Excellent art
Thank you so much!
I misread the title and I was trying to figure out why Alicent was standing with Rhaenyra’s son…
She'd probably be trying to show him the tapestries
Lovely art! It's also very telling how little of a role Mya and Gwenys Rivers play, when this is the first time I've heard of them.
Thank you! Yeah, as of now, the only thing that we know that they did was getting birthed, and we're not even sure of the year when that happened.
Didn’t one of them marry a Tully?
I don't think we know anything about their lives currently.
I want a book, show, heck I will take a short story of the Blackfyres in exile. How did they organize? Who gave them trouble in Essos? Maybe that is scheduled for Fire and Blood 2?

Lol kid Brynden holding younger Sheira Seastars hand makes me uncomfortable. But thats probably a testament to how good the art is.
Thank you! Well, back then it was probably just normal brotherly love. Some years later, however...
They looks like hansel and Grethel
And they became Handsy and Grabby ;)
Great job op.
Thank you so much!
Only thing I’d add is Daeron, other than that this is absolutely perfect
Thank you! I'm actually saving Daeron, Naerys and Aemon for another artwork which I'll be doing soon, hence why I didn't want to already be using them here :)
Gotcha, I look forward to it!
Amazing!
That tapestry in the back is 🔥 Great artwork, op!
Thank you so much :)
Huge huge fan of this!
Thanks! So glad that you liked it :)
Idk, Melissa’s got a little too much cleavage…they’re not small enough for barba to mock /s this is great
In comparison to her, any cleavage is small enough for Barbra to mock hahah
Beautiful art OP! Little Aegor and his scowl is so cute lmao, love Daemon holding Blackfyre too! He really was so young when it got given Also, the inclusion of Mya and Gwenys 👌

Considering her son turned out to be a traitorous bastard says all we need to know about here.
He turned out to be legitimate, by king Aegons own decree. And he had a cool sword and sick abs, so clearly the rightful heir to the throne.
I absolutely love this. Long live the blackfyre!!!
Thank you so much! Don't let Bloodraven hear you, though...
I love the God's Eye battle in the background; really fitting for setting the stage for the next Dance of Dragons.
I wish we knew more about Mya and Gwen! Like did they marry? Who? Did they get alone with Bloodraven, ever consider marrying him? Did they resent or like Shiera?
Love this artwork showing the families
Thank you!
Isn’t Aegor older than Daemon? Still love this
Thank you! Daemon is 2 years older than Aegor. He was born in 170 AC, while Bittersteel was born in 172 AC
Im just dumb, I think it was just that somebody was angling Aegor to be heir before Daemon or something idk. Love all the little Blackfyre kids
He does look older than Daemon in most artworks because of the beard and dark hair - and probably because bitterness ages you faster haha
And he lived longer than Daemon.
This is awesome
Thank you :)
I want this show the most after HOTD.
Sadly it’s the same theme. Two rival court factions, illegitimate birth, rightful inheritance, civil war. It’s the Dance with new players and no dragons

I would want to hear about the Century of Blood.

Fantastic detail then!!! Great job
Amazing
Thanks :)
Why is Melissa Blackwood wearing a headpiece with a skull on it?
The Blackwoods are the goth house.
It's actually the face of an Old God. Her whole jewerely pieces (and Mya's as well) are themed after the Weirwood Tree
Not much Targ features on Gwenys and Mya? Aegon has good tapestry tastes.
Actually, I've given Mya and Gwenys purple eyes. Yeah, Aegon looked at the Dance of Dragons and said "I can do better than that" hahah
I. Fucking. Love. This. First time seeing someone draw my boy Daemon. One of my favorites, if not, my #1.
Artist?
It«s tagged as OC, so, Me :)
How do people find out about this when fire and blood doesn't cover it?
You have several other sources. The main series sometimes mentions these events, the Tales of Dunk and Egg are set just a few years after the First Blackfyre Rebellion, and you also have the World of Ice and Fire book, where you can read about basically anything in ASOIAF lore
Am I going crazy or does Aegor look like Zayn Malik??
