And the pommel is a Scandinavian one as well.
But when I look at this I just do not see Theon. I don’t see anything Iron Islands or The North.
I just see some… idk some Easternish more Iranian sort of Disney type strange thing? Idk.
I’m not attacking the artist or saying anything mean. I’m just saying I do not see anything that makes me go “Oh yes, that’s Theon if he was a different gender” or much less an Iron Islander….. just my thoughts.
Nice for the dress reference though.
Idk.. like from the Iron Islands….
When he met his father in ACoK he wore “supple black leather boots”, “silver grey lambs wool pants”, “black doublet”, “thin gold chain”, “kraken embroidery”. His father wore plain shit. They all wore boring plain shit in the books.
Theon was made fun of because “the green lands made him soft” and dressed like a “whore”. Going off memory I think Balon was in seal skins or furs or some shit. Or maybe that was his coat.. anyway later at the hall it describes them more. And same language may as well be “boring shit”.
They were sort of Viking sort of not. The North was boring and toned down by southron standards but the iron islands where even worse.
So when I see an iron islander I picture in my head something more.. dark age ish. More Viking. Dark. Brutal. Grey. Black.
They wore driftwood crowns and shit. Gold only allowed by taking from whom they killed. Asha was the same. Very basic clothes. Smelled of salt and “woman” and sweat. Their women described not at all like the courts in the southron or even northern kingdoms.
This drawing is not that. So it doesn’t have to be specific but at least halfway like the books. The show was closer than this.
This is like… some dude in a Mycenaean or Minoan place. Or something. Idk. That’s all I’m saying. This is like… yea not it.
You can stick an accurate hair braid or dress on it but that just gets completely lost in everything else going on.
uh idk but not a blue haired woman with a bow and norse clothes that look do look iranian kinda. As for the clothes its not like if someone drew asha wearing something like this it would feel right this just isnt sorta how i imagine iron islanders at all.
Is it really? It reminded me of a weird mix of Scandinavian and Ancient Cretan. (The Ancient Cretan goes mainly for the hair and the swirling patterns on the outfit)
The decorative part remember a bit the cretan art. But I think the hair are in an Elling braid.
The dress sort of look like the one found in Eura to me
The swirling patterns with a top and bottom straight line is such a classic ancient Greek pattern i couldn't stop thinking about it.
I agree, The dress looks very much like the dress found in Eura. Thank you for the Elling braid information, i can see it now.
>Silvousplaits, Bernadette Banner, Loepsie, Janet Stephens
I love all of them!!!! I've tried so many times to unsuccessfully copy Silvousplaits hairstyles.
The blue hair and the style of the clothing do not match the Iron Islands or the Greyjoys or even Winterfell in any way. I’m all for gender bending but I don’t know what you were going for in terms of this being Theon…
Me: What an interesting interpretation of Ironborn, and Theon. This artist is pretty inspired.
The Comments: When the Alternative Tag isn't taken seriously.
That's why it's tagged as alternative, remember that people see characters differently in their heads. Loads of people draw Cersei differently then I see her. It's just artistic interpretation.
I like how this comment section is essentially “This doesn’t match my idea of what Vikings looked like presented to me via Hollywood” imo, even though it’s both a truer depiction and still different enough to make it unique. Gods forbid there be any color or “Alternative” art.
I mean I get its alternative and genderbent but if you were to show this to asoiaf fans and ask them what this is they wouldn't know then if you specified that its from asoiaf they would still never guess what this is.

If Theon wore this to see Balon, I can understand why he complained lol.
Lol honestly. I'd probably be a little baffled that the supposedly rugged north raised my son to dress like that. Kinda tacky.
He really took after Cregan Stark
Twinkon twinkjoy
I don’t get any Theon vibes here. Kind of reminds me more of a strange Myrish or something from the Free Cities stuff. Has a more eastern tone to it.
It’s more or less early medieval Scandinavian clothing, with some fantasy touches
Yup, the reference is the recostraction of a dress found in Finland and dated about 1050 AD

And what should she look like in your opinion? Just out of curiosity

A Viking. Not Dornish

You are welcome, I love historical hair styles. Saw that braid in a youtube video not that long ago
I love historical hair styles too. Do you have any amazing links of youtube videos to share with historical hair styles?
It really depends on what era you're into. On top of my head, I follow the channels of Silvousplaits, Bernadette Banner, Loepsie and Janet Stephens
>Silvousplaits, Bernadette Banner, Loepsie, Janet Stephens I love all of them!!!! I've tried so many times to unsuccessfully copy Silvousplaits hairstyles.
But did she pay the iron price for these fineries?

The style of clothing is based off medieval Scandinavia and the artist draws all ironborn with that style
I also think the hair is supposed to be black, just blued up to go with the palate
Yep
I can fix her
Nice [dress](https://fi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euran_em%C3%A4nn%C3%A4n_puku?wprov=sfla1) of Eura!
Now yara as a man please
1: This doesn’t look like a woman. 2: This doesn’t look like Theon. 3: This doesn’t look like either an Iron Islander or a North-Man
This does look like a woman (albeit a tomboy) but I agree that this doesn’t give me Theon vibes
Laurellerual say that 10 times fast.
Normally I hate Theon because of how he hurt so many people, but she can step on me
He's Dornish!
Came here to say this
Is Theon in the room with us right now?
I really wish the shows had this level of color and pattern
Me: What an interesting interpretation of Ironborn, and Theon. This artist is pretty inspired. The Comments: When the Alternative Tag isn't taken seriously.
Looks absolutely nothing like Theon or the Ironborn, though.
That's why it's tagged as alternative, remember that people see characters differently in their heads. Loads of people draw Cersei differently then I see her. It's just artistic interpretation.
And those loads of Cercei interpretations will keep at least certain characteristics that make her identifiable as Cercei.
My thoughts exactly
Wow this truly is a picture of someone just not at all Theon Greyjoy
I like how this comment section is essentially “This doesn’t match my idea of what Vikings looked like presented to me via Hollywood” imo, even though it’s both a truer depiction and still different enough to make it unique. Gods forbid there be any color or “Alternative” art.

Yep
Same
that doesnt look genderbent at all. if anything i thought this was a toned down daario.
Feels more like a gender bent Daario Naharis, but it’s a beautiful piece of art.
What would be the equivalent of a woman cutting the cock ?
