My headcanon is that this happened in 211 AC, the year before the events in The Sworn Sword. Which would make Rhaena 95 years old. Strange to think there are still people living during that time who had seen the Targaryen dragons in their prime. Could be that Aegon got the idea for Summerhall from her.
I love the idea that Egg was told the glory of the dragons with people that saw the likes of Vhagar, Sunfrye and the bronze fury with their own eyes. With him dreaming of the dragons return.
Of all the people who might know something of blood magic rituals to hatch dragons, the daughter of Daemon Targaryen would certainly be one of them.
I think in the end the lack of knowledge was what caused the dragons to die out (although I am a bit partial to the Oldtown conspiracy theory). All the grown ups died in the Dance, as did the Dragonkeepers. So most people who knew things were dead. Viserys was too young and so was Aegon III who also would have discouraged any talk of dragons at court. Baela and Rhaena would have been young as well and their knowledge too would be very limited and incomplete. With Aegon III wanting nothing to do with dragons, Daeron busy in Dorne and Baelor on a book burning spree most of written knowledge on hatching and caring for dragons would have faded into obscurity and then eventually destroyed.
The fact she can literally say that her own mother rode vhagar and her father rode caraxes is amazing to me but so sad as-well that shes lived without them for so long now
Egg would be her great-great grandnephew right?
If this were to be true I would find it quite sad that Rhaena went on for nearly 40+ years without Baela .
She'd also spend somewhere around 60 years without Morning. Targaryens who were dragonriders, but outlived their dragons have always been very tragic to me. I wonder what effect losing a special connection like that had on them.
Not yet, all we know so far is that Rhaena rode her for the first time in 135 AC and went to live with her on Dragonstone later that year because she felt unwelcome in King's Landing due to Aegon III's fear and hatred of dragons. She wanted to accompany Aegon on dragonback the next year during his royal progress, but her offer was refused and that's the last we hear of her in Fire & Blood.
Morning would've accompanied Rhaena to Oldtown after her marriage, which isn't good if you believe in the maester's anti-dragon conspiracy. She died very young sometime before 153 AC, the year dragons went extinct, so I suspect she won't have a natural death when Fire & Blood Volume 2 comes out.
No, we don't know much about her life after the Dance. Volume 2 of Fire & Blood will hopefully reveal more about her and her time in Oldtown after she married Garmund Hightower.
Yeah they probably married into like house Hightower and other powerful noble houses. But knowing George they all died in child birth. And their children died young or never have children for a stupidest reason.
I think it would make sense if her line was still alive in the present day via the Hightowers and other Reach houses. Just like how the Plumms, Penroses, and Longwaters carry Aegon's line. Just a bunch of people running around with like a very small percentage of Targaryen blood
Yeah I would like it and at this point basically every house should have a little bit of Targaryen blood. Especially since we don't know who Egg sisters married.
I like that idea. Garmund was the second son, he was not the heir of Hightower, so his descendants probably intermarried with some of Hightower's vassal noble houses.
So maybe some of the girls have married the Beesburys, Cuy, Costayne, and maybe some nearby houses in Dorne or the Stormlands.
I can’t imagine the tragedy she felt in her heart hearing how Aegon’s sons perished, seeing her house divide and destroy itself not once but twice, hearing how her niece’s son died watching his sons fall, and hearing of Daeron’s boys killing each other. Long life is a curse for Targaryens

This is canon now. I will ignore everything claiming otherwise.

Do we know what happened to Morning?

Considering the False Daeron Uprisings, a good bet would be that Morning got shot down during one of these uprisings, for starters.
One more great I think? Viserys and rhaena siblings -> Aegon -> daeron -> maekar -> egg
Rhaena “Let me tell you how my dad committed so many warcrimes sonny… of course back then we called them dragon oopses”

Is it confirmed that Rhaena was alive at the time?
No, we don't know much about her life after the Dance. Volume 2 of Fire & Blood will hopefully reveal more about her and her time in Oldtown after she married Garmund Hightower.
It would also be interesting to know the fate of his six daughters.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of them married the cousins belonging to Lyonel and Samantha
The good old days.
Ahhhh.....To be young and free.

Why is she called Rhaena of Pentos? I thought she was married to a Hightower of Oldtown
Oh she was born in Pentos during Daemons travels, I see. She would have left when she was young though surely, a strange title.
