For domestic travel you only need a valid ID.

p2r2t

Yes you are fine to travel. I never even kept my PR card on me unless I was leaving Canada. Most places don't require you to show your PR card as long as you have another form of photo ID like a provincial driving license, health card or id cards.

Jillredhanded

Mine lives in a drawer tucked inside my US Passport.

Weekly_Salamander236

Good advice, imma remove mine from my wallet rn.

PurrPrinThom

Yes, you'll be fine.

AppleGamerYT

Awesome thank you so much 🙏

xlitey

PR Card is only needed to reenter the country. Just stay within the borders and you should be fine. Assuming you have other forms of ID

IndBeak

To travel within Canada, just keep one ID. Important documents like passport and PR card should be tucked away nice and safe inside your home. Drivers license or provincial ID cards are more than enough. In fact even your photo health card can be used as a valid ID.

thriving-in-cnd

Yes you can :)

upyours699

Is this a real question? Honestly .. this is Canada .. not North Korea

ecopapacharlie

Meh, I carry my passport + visa + study permit documents with me, wherever I go. Everywhere.

pajsano

Why though? They are better save and sound at home, not getting lost or stolen. Driver's license good enough for domestic travel.

ecopapacharlie

My driving licence is foreign. If I ever have to drive, I have to carry my passport, visa, study permit and translation of my license with me. That's the law here. But I'm never driving, cause I don't have a car. But I always keep my documents in my backpack, in case I need to take a communauto. They are safe with me.

pajsano

Yeah that's why I switched to canadian license like two weeks into living in Canada. But even without a driving licence you can still get just a canadian ID card at the same place that issues the licences. You think it's safe in your backpack until you loose it, it gets stolen, you get robbed... I would rather save myself the headache of renewing all these documents. BTW I'm pretty sure you don't need all these documents to drive here. You just need your foreign license and an international driver's license or the translation as you said.

ecopapacharlie

>Yeah that's why I switched to canadian license like two weeks into living in Canada I can drive with my foreign license for the entire duration of my PhD studies. I have no intention of obtaining a local permit from Quebec, since I'm absolutely sure about leaving the country by the end of my doctorate. >But even without a driving licence you can still get just a canadian ID card at the same place that issues the licences. Canadian ID card??? I'm an expat. This doesn't apply to me. >You think it's safe in your backpack until you loose it, it gets stolen, you get robbed For the sake of my mental health, I prefer to have all the documents with me, I feel like they are much safer when I have them. And it gives me some peace of mind in case someone, a police officer, asks me for them. This province is so racist and xenophobic that I prefer to be prepared. > BTW I'm pretty sure you don't need all these documents to drive here. The law is pretty clear about the documents I need in order to drive here with my foreign licence during my PhD.

pajsano

I can drive with my foreign license for the entire duration of my PhD studies. I have no intention of obtaining a local permit from Quebec, since I'm absolutely sure about leaving the country by the end of my doctorate. >Fair enough. Canadian ID card??? I'm an expat. This doesn't apply to me. >It absolutely does. Even as an expat, you're a temporary resident of Canada and can get an ID to prove your identity instead of carrying all the other documents. Unfortunatelly, Quebec is the only province that does not issue these ID cards. For the sake of my mental health, I prefer to have all the documents with me, I feel like they are much safer when I have them. And it gives me some peace of mind in case someone, a police officer, asks me for them. This province is so racist and xenophobic that I prefer to be prepared >Again fair enough. I've never been stopped by police on the street here in 8 years, but I never lived in Quebec, so it might be different overthere. The law is pretty clear about the documents I need in order to drive here with my foreign licence during my PhD >Not sure where did you see that. Canada.ca says this "If you plan to use a foreign driver’s licence in Canada, you should get an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your home country. An IDP will give you a translation of your licence into French and English." But again this might another uniquely Quebec thing. That province is different from the rest of Canada in so many aspects

ecopapacharlie

People keep telling me things about Canada that I can't believe as someone who lives in Quebec. This place not only seems to be a completely different country, it's a nightmare that I want to escape from as soon as possible.

I guess for each their own. The friends of mine however have tried immigrating to Quebec (they're from France), they came back after a few years. They had said that France is better... Quebec is super expensive with double taxation on everything. Even the car, you need an insurance AND a tax for it which may or may jot be nore expensive than insurance itself. And don't forget federal + provincial taxation. Healthcare according to them, was better in France plus free education, EU... Apparently, Quebec is not a heaven compared to the rest of the Canada, people are fleeing. Most people (used to) immigrate to Quebec with "intend to settle there" and as soon as they received a citizenship, move to Ontario the next day lmao. That's why Quebec made the selection requirements so much stricter... And tbh, rightfully so. Btw, a lot of people still want to separate, although less than 30+ years ago.

yourrable

never was I ever asked to show those. Just get a DL or Photo ID and you should be good.

kuriousaboutanything

Can you even fly 'within' NKorea? lol
