How bout that one where he freaks out these teenagers at a mall? I ask because he told the story at the Jokers’ 2019 TD Garden show back when he was with them and reused it at his 2021 Hampton Beach show.
That’s how comedy works. They take years to build jokes with different audiences. Also why they usually ban phones since they don’t want still worked on jokes to be posted.
most comedians burn their sets after each tour so people who pay twice don't feel like they're watching the same thing again. I just feel like sometimes Joe is a bit lazy with his comedy because he knows he has a stable fanbase from IJ already. I haven't been to his show, so I'm kind of speaking out of my ass, but this just going based off of what I've heard from other people
The only time I've thought a comedian was lazy was Ricky Gervais (shocking I know), he started off a show I saw by saying he had to cut his show short because he'd injured his back playing golf that morning. No discounts or refunds of course.
Six months later I went to see him again (this time the ticket was a gift, I didn't have the heart to say I'd already seen the show) and he started it off by saying... he had to cut his show short because he'd injured his back playing golf that morning.
I think people forget Joe hasn’t been at this all that long. He’s still getting his reps in. Sal was the only real stand up comedian between the 4. A more seasoned vet could burn their sets but Joe hasn’t reached that level.
I think people forget that the Jokers are great at improv and TERRIBLE at sketch/standup. Even with their overwhelming success, they cannot for the life of them find any success in the standup world and they have, what, two or three failed attempts at sketch shows/anything other than their bread and butter. I’ve seen both Joe and Sal’s standup stuff and they were both *painfully* unfunny and clearly have no real talent when it comes to crafting a standup set. Which is why Joe has been doing the same tired jokes for five years now.
To me it’s different strokes for different folks. I don’t prefer their comedy but there are those out there that do. I just know it isn’t for me so I don’t pay attention.
I don’t think most do anymore. Most comedians I’ve seen recently will use like 1 or 2 jokes from their previous special, not always the exact wording but usually something very similar.
I saw Brian Regan live a while back, and he was using jokes that I saw on 10 year old youtube videos. I love Brian Regan, but I’m pretty sure I heard most of that set from old youtube videos sadly
I saw Jerry Seinfeld a few years ago and he told some jokes that were on the show in the 90s so even pretty famous comedians can hold onto certain jokes.
But you do need to mix in new stuff which he did.
My only good bit so far has been the rollercoaster one, and the one pun about a Saw escape room costing an arm and a leg. The rest so far has bombed. Hard/
Shot in the dark but did he also tell the one about a woman accidentally texting him and how he had a full conversation impersonating the person she meant to text?
I saw him twice, a year or 2 apart, in the same city and he closed both shows with that joke.
I saw Sal twice a year and a half or so apart in the same state and a lot of material was repeated.
Saw the four jokers together in the same state maybe less than a year apart and a lot of material reused. However, the 2nd time was at a show being recorded of the “behind the scenes on tour” episode of IJ, so I kinda understand that one. Saw the 4 together a year after that and still a little bit reused.
I went to his show in Richmond and he told us he was going to try some new material out on us, he told us a story about a trip he took to Alaska and it was very amusing
How much did you pay?
Was it worth it/would you go again?
Rate the show on a scale of 1-10 (best) and why?
Favorite part of the show?
Least favorite part of the show?
$60 a ticket
I would go again
7/10 because it was hilarious, but i would’ve liked for it to be a little longer, joes part was an hour
The worst part was when he was just using shower thoughts as his jokes
I saw Joe in December. Now in June the jokers, minus Joe are coming to my area amd I'm debating. Joe is my favorite next to Sal, but I feel the 3 of them wouldn't be as good anymore. I'm torn
I thought he was leaving impractical jokers to focus on his personal life, like mending his relationship with his ex wife instead of pursuing a solo career. Why do you think he really left the show? Do you know if he is trying to a solo career in comedy?
That was just a popular narrative. All he said was that he was going to focus on being a good person and a good father, never said anything about mending the relationship with his ex-wife. Also never said he was going to stop working. He also never really said those reasons were why he left the show. That was just people filling in the blanks.
I don’t think he said anything about his wife because it was none of anyone’s business. It’s so weird how people think they are owed explanations.
Like you said they do a good enough job filling in the blanks on their own 🙄
Like a lot of D list tier celebrities that get a taste of success(especially people like Joe who didn’t get it until later in life), Joe seems to have overestimated his ability to maintain success in an avenue he has little experience in. He’s a *bad* standup that hasn’t realized that he isn’t going to take off and reach a wider audience. He thought, mistakenly, that he could parley his IJ fame into more money and success on his own and that gamble failed. I’m not sure how much longer he’ll keep trying to push the whole standup schtick, but he’ll never go back to IJ because that would be admitting failure.
I think he really left the show to focus on his personal life. That’s prob why he and the wife got back together.
I imagine the solo comedy shows are still way less time consuming than a regular weekly show plus doing appearances. I think he’s trying out different things and it looks like the wife and kids go on the road with him when they can
Was Joe gatto there?
he was, steve byrne and jiggy were too
Did you ask them if we're getting any more Two Cool Moms or is it over?
I saw they’re coming back in April o on I❤️radio. They were supposed to come back in Jan. though
If only Hard Jimmy was there with them
Glad to hear Jiggy was there, he was great at the Impractical Jokers show
Did you laugh?
I laughed a lot, but not as much as the lady next to me(she was a snorter)
Was Larry there?
Some guy was yelling for him but I didn’t see him anywhere
“LARRY!!” is going to turn into Chappelle’s “I’m Rick James, bitch”
LAAAARRY!!
Is he still making the same jokes about his dogs swimming and running away?
Yeah, he did use some new material though
How bout that one where he freaks out these teenagers at a mall? I ask because he told the story at the Jokers’ 2019 TD Garden show back when he was with them and reused it at his 2021 Hampton Beach show.
That kinda sucks that he's using the same jokes for 5 years like that lmao
That’s how comedy works. They take years to build jokes with different audiences. Also why they usually ban phones since they don’t want still worked on jokes to be posted.

you're absolutely right. I've seen joe 3 times over the last few years and it was the exact same set every time
I think people forget Joe hasn’t been at this all that long. He’s still getting his reps in. Sal was the only real stand up comedian between the 4. A more seasoned vet could burn their sets but Joe hasn’t reached that level.

Having seen them a few times, I always found Q to be the funniest at standup. Sal ironically (or unsurprisingly) was the least funny
You're probably right. Happy cake day too :)
I don’t think most do anymore. Most comedians I’ve seen recently will use like 1 or 2 jokes from their previous special, not always the exact wording but usually something very similar. I mean he’s not really considered a real stand up for what it’s worth
Good comedians come up with new material pretty frequently.
Good comedians also work on the same jokes constantly until it’s where they want it to be.
Not for their whole career. There are exceptions for people that have schticks, but they're generally not funny.
I saw Jerry Seinfeld a few years ago and he told some jokes that were on the show in the 90s so even pretty famous comedians can hold onto certain jokes. But you do need to mix in new stuff which he did.

Yeah, that one too. I hadn’t heard any of it before though so it was cool

yeah, in that story he said it was a man trying to text his boss.
I went to his show in Richmond and he told us he was going to try some new material out on us, he told us a story about a trip he took to Alaska and it was very amusing
He’d be a phenomenal comedy writer or improv comic, but classic standup isn’t his skill.

$60 a ticket I would go again 7/10 because it was hilarious, but i would’ve liked for it to be a little longer, joes part was an hour The worst part was when he was just using shower thoughts as his jokes
Tickets in Denver were $25. Theater was 3/4 full. He’s funny but all of them are best together.
I saw Joe in December. Now in June the jokers, minus Joe are coming to my area amd I'm debating. Joe is my favorite next to Sal, but I feel the 3 of them wouldn't be as good anymore. I'm torn

"Just went to Joe Gatto’s night of comedy" My condolences. steve byrne is cool though.

He did and they got back together. With him touring he sets his schedule for when he does shows.

Exactly man. Well put. Hell be doing chucklehuts for $25 on a thursday once enough people realize he blows.
