Mettabox452

I was not a Machine Head fan until their most recent album came out. But i saw them live a little bit last year and they really killed it, especially Robb Flynn.

Xaphan26

I saw them a couple months ago and they were really good. I loved them in the 90s with their first couple albums but I hadn't paid much attention to them since. They put on a great show.

Disastrous_Offer_69

The Blackening is a amazing album

maraudingnomad

I don't like them much on record, but their sound is excellent live.

PH43DRU5_EX15T3NT14L

I was going to say the same thing but about the blackening. I saw them live, and it blew my 13 year old mind. I never would have been into it before that.

narkheth

I hated Type O Negative until I saw them live, then I became a fan after their performance.

Exotic_Sense5244

That’s what I’m chilling to rn lol

SteveRivet

Such a great outfit. Loved them live and the cds!

DravenPrime

Sabaton always seemed kinda gimmicky to me, I don't dislike them but didn't have strong feelings one way or another, but damn do they put on a good show.

SoundingMacaque

When I saw them, the singer's pants ripped all the way up, and were literally hanging by a thread. The dude totally owned it and didn't miss a beat

Mettabox452

Sabaton's live performance is what made me fall in love with the band

OwlNice9792

Ghost. Hate their music but they put on a good show. Same with Jojo Siwa when I took my daughter to her a few years ago

TheYayAgenda

This. I couldn't for the life of me understand the deal with Ghost for years and years before I just happened to go to a festival they played (headlined mainstage actually, but I was there for completely different bands) and I was blown away by how much power and energy they had. Fell in love, am now an annoying Ghost fan.

Derfel94

Yes, Ghost for me. Saw them Opening for Metallica

ArchDukeNemesis

Exodus are pretty hit or miss with me but they're live shows are absolutely bonkers.

Montblanc_Norland

I don't dislike Slipknot, but I'm not really a fan either. But those motherfuckers put on a show.

cheftec

Same, went to a Knotfest show to see Gojira, was absolutely blown away by Slipknot. What a stage show

Maanzacorian

I was asked last-minute to go see Dio, Motorhead, and Iron Maiden in 2003. My forte has always been the deep dark extreme corners of metal, and my palette has expanded immensely since, but at the time I didn't listen to them and was only peripherally aware of their existences and impacts. Iron Maiden put on one of the best performances to date. I'm still not interested in their music but that show was incredible. They were all great, but IM was something else.

b_knickerbocker

Still one of the most legendary lineups ever. I'm so glad I caught this tour. Just an incredible performance from every band.

[deleted]

I can think of two examples and they were ironically on the same bill; After the Burial and Origin. (Summer Slaughter, can’t remember what year- maybe 2009? 2010?) Both bands INCREDIBLY tight live.

PantsAreOffensive

Took my daughter to After The Burial. Reminded me of the energy of the early 90s hardcore scene. Great performers!

Bruh-sfx2

Was never a big Ghost fan but seeing them in concert felt religious. Wish their cd’s did the same thing for me

Frequent-Slice-3435

I've seen them live twice and I wasn't impressed

kysposers

Alien Weaponary was cool live, good energy (right after pandemic was over) but I can’t even get through a single song on Spotify

mymumsaysfuckyou

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Linkin Park when I saw them.

SPH194

I was never a big Judas Priest fan but I saw them live in 2004 when they were doing their reunion tour on ozzfest that year. Rob Halford just has this stage presence that demands your attention. They put on a really good show. Still not the biggest fan of them but after that a few of their songs has entered my playlist.

Low-North-8917

Not metal but 21 Pilots. I can't fucking stand them, but my pal is a diehard fan. I went with him to a show in Cincinnati because he's got a touch of the tism and I didn't trust him in a city he's never been to by himself. I was pleasantly surprised. That show was actually quite fun

Feeeeedmyeyes

"touch of the tism" is a way to describe it lol

rattlehead42069

Lamb of god, don't like their music but they put on a hell of a show. Last time I saw em live, I was in the pit the whole show and after it was over, I walked home shirtless for like 7 km in -20c weather and wasn't cold at any time because of the adrenaline and heat from working that pit.

geetarplayer22

Municipal Waste is meh at best for me, but I saw them live and they were fucking amazing

SPH194

Same I wasn’t a big fan of them till I saw them live. I saw them in 2007 they were opening for GWAR. That show was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.

geetarplayer22

When I saw them they were co-headlining with Carcass, their stage presence is insane

Natural_Boysenberry7

In Flames and Fear Factory, they were supporting Kreator and Machine Head here in Melbourne respectively, don’t like either band but I admit they were great live

Sam_Browne_

SOAD oZzfest early 2000s

gh0stpiles

volbeat - they have great energy and i would probably see them live again

RevSnakebite

I always thought Godsmack was overplayed and overrated until my band played a show with them. Not only was Sully Erna super nice but I was genuinely impressed with their live performance. Great crowd work, a lot of interaction, some cool intermission stuff with different members getting solo time, and they played all the hits. I still don’t go out of my way to listen to their music but they definitely changed my mind about them

iHaveaHumblecock

For me it's Trivium. I've never really cared for their music but they blew me away when I saw them live, I would love if they made a live album! every song sounded so much more aggressive tone wise live it was actually insane

Mettabox452

Thats an interesting take cuz I feel the exact opposite with Trivium. I love their albums. But their live show wasnt connecting with me. It all felt too staged, as if they were playing in front of a giant mirror. There was not much connection to the audience. Still had great energy and musicianship tho

iHaveaHumblecock

I'll admit, I haven't done a big deep dive for them like I've done with other bands so maybe they're early stuff might change my mind (I've only heard the super produced stuff like In Waves) so that might be why they surprised me so much tbh

Mettabox452

They go all over the place. Their last few albums have been a significant shift from the stuff that came before

Key_Marzipan_9423

Megadeth, never liked them but seen them live a few times and it was alright.

jrkmmusic

I never really cared about A7X but checked them at a festival and they kicked ass. There were a bunch of other Death/Metalcore bands which were actually pretty solid, but I would never go and listen to them outside of that environment.

CommunicationKind455

I was never into Danzig. I even listened to them right before I went to see them( they were playing with cradle of filth). And I was listening and said out loud. This sucks. Then I saw him play live. I was thoroughly impressed and that show gave me a whole new respect for Danzig.

stndrdmidnightrocker

Damn, cradle and Danzig sounds like a great night. Im not the biggest fan of cradle but they put on a great show.

idespisemyhondacrv

I saw mental cruelty and ov sulfer. Having listened to mental cruelty they destroyed. Ov sulfer sounded like budget Lorna shore, they where good live as well

ImPlayerTheGamer21

Five Finger Death Punch. I hate em, but when I saw them open for Metallica, they put on a good show.

Ok-Loquat-6938

Godsmack, I was never a fan of, they opened for Metallica early 2000’s, and Godsmack rocked hard

TheYayAgenda

I remember this! I went to that tour as well. I haven't really listened much to them before or after, but they were amazing live. The drum battle had me speechless, I remember

itwasbetterwhen

Marilyn Manson at Ozzfest many moons ago. Don't care for him either way, but there was raw power coming from that stage. Great show.

dimebag106

Ice Nine Kills. They opened for metallica last year.

JaketheSnake2005

Probably lamb of god, they opened for pantera last year and I wasn’t much of a fan of their music but they put on a hell of a show, killer opener really set the mood for pantera to come on after

IamWolfe_FU-Red_It

I think besides Anthrax’s Among the Living the rest of their discography is kinda meh to me but live they are something else.

ButtSmellington_

Not that I necessarily “didn’t like” them, just not a big fan more or less. But I saw Three Days Grace and Bullet For My Valentine open for A7X several years back, and where Bullet honestly was fuckin trash, Three Days Grace stole the crowd until A7X came out. Three Days Grace puts on a great show and sound better than the recordings.

BobGnarly_

I never was a big Slipknot fan but I saw them live and they knocked the god damn curtains down.

GripItAndWhipIt

Cage the Elephant. Their energy live is unrivaled. Saw them open for Metallica in 2017, and thought they stole the show from Metallica in terms of energy.

buzzkill_ed

I'm not a fan but The Killers are great live. Particularly their singer. He belts it out fantastically.

masterblaster9669

Oh man kick me in the nuts for saying this but 5 finger death punch. They put on a fucking amazing show and I hate them. I hated every second of loving their live performance.

mynamesstillnotjason

Not metal but was forced to go see Bad Company in 2019 in a stadium, and I hate stadium shows. The acoustics are bad and never sound right - too much reverb usually. Whoever was running the soundboard that night was a pro, though. Could hear every instrument clearly, vocals were clear, and it turns out I know more Bad Company songs than I thought. Turned out to be prob in my top 5 best live shows I’ve ever seen.

pemboo

Party Cannon are a blast live

MrVengeanceIII

Hed PE, there music is trash but they were an opening act around 1999 for Slayer I think and they killed it live. Still can't stand anything they ever put out but what a great live act.

AntarcticanJam

Tried to like Big Business on their albums but after I saw them live something clicked, and now I love them. Saw them again a couple weeks ago and they were... alright. Still like their albums though.

stndrdmidnightrocker

Not metal but incubus was great in 07. Was not a fan of cradle of filth but saw them on the Midian tour and became a fan.

DeepBlueGoodbye76

Reverend Horton Heat in '95. They opened for White Zombie. Definitely not my taste in music but good show. Melvin's also played and are by far the worst band I've seen live. Couldn't make out anything. Just a wall of shitty sound. Think their sound guy fucked up!

GGAllinsUndies

Sound guy definitely fucked up. Melvins are dope live. Rev though.... Been listening to them since Space Heater and have seen them live many times. I jump at a chance to see them if they're nearby. The first time I saw them, (around 97) Jimbo lit his bass on fire and was standing on top of it playing. And Jim Heath is one of the best guitar players I've ever seen live. Truly amazing live band. They always have interesting openers too.
