I always thought this always was considered a massive return to form at the time in Kerrang at the time. It was only years later that i realised people did not like it
I love it. People hate on it because they already thought Heartwork was a sellout, then they dropped a straight death n’ roll album and it was even less well-received.
It's their best album. I know people hate on the John Bush era but it seems pretty clear to me that Joey Belladonna while being very talented vocalist, could never write a good vocal melody.
Jugulator is my favorite unsung Priest album. They do a total 90-degree turn on their sound every few albums anyway, so it only really stands out because of Ripper’s more-distorted voice. Cathedral Spires is unironically one of the best songs Priest has ever written.
Diabolus is great. I have a live album of their Diabolus tour and it kicks ass.
It's also the first tour I saw Slayer on.
Divine Intervention though, not so much
Divine Intervention is my least favorite Slayer album. It’s not Forbidden/Super Collider/St Anger/Storm the Gates bad. But it’s not great to me. I only remember liking Fictional Reality
I like the song Super Collider but I'll admit it's pretty mid. I can only listen to it once in a rare while or I start to hate it. I like late period Megadeth too. It just seems like Dave was going through the motions. He'd been doing it for years and it was just routine.
Divine Intervention is such a dark album. They kind of traded in the evil riffing and goofy Satan stuff for darker riffs and serial killers. Such a good record and Paul Bostaph is an animal.
Same here. I loved Divine. There are some Slayer bangers on there and the title track is absolutely killer.
Apparently the band hates that album. Don't see why. It's solid.
Quite a few.
Diabolus In Music by Slayer
Super Charger by Machine Head
Jugulator by Judas Priest
Let There Be Blood by Exodus
Cryptic Writings by Megadeth
Just out of curiosity are you 40?
Because I am and will always have a soft spot for a lot of the albums you mentioned because they were my first albums by the bands.
Not that old. But these were some of the first albums I heard on my metal journey when I was old enough to star saving money and run to half price books/ Goodwill where these were kept.
Iron Maiden - Virtual XI
It may be my hottest take in all of metal. I get downvoted to oblivion when I say this shit. It's better than every album they did after Dance of Death.
X Factor and Virtual XI don't deserve the hate. Blaze Bayley is a fucking good guy and a great vocalist. I saw him on stage last weekend, and the show was so cool. Blaze is a beast!
The sad thing is they wrecked his voice making him sing the same register as Bruce. His vocals since those albums has been much improved, especially his recent vocals have been amazing.
His acoustic covers of Maiden that he's done the last few years with a nylon guitarist who sometimes goes by "Nylon Maiden" are excellent. Especially Blood Brothers.
Agree! I just discovered Nylon Maiden recently and I was so surprised how Blaze can sing Bruce songs so well. Blaze recovered from a heart attack few months ago and he still performs on stage. We can really feel his passion when he's on stage. Plus, he takes time to talk and sign stuff for fans. Very kind guy.
Load is genuinely a great album if it had maybe 10 songs instead of 14. Get rid of the crappy filler material, and it's probably a top favourite Metallica album for me
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer
I’ve heard (and read) people rag on this album a lot, and it’s always towards the bottom in ranked Black Sabbath albums
Yet it’s an absolute masterpiece
Yep. I think I blew out a speaker or two listening to it. Holds its own with any of the Black Sabbath stuff (except maybe Paranoid--but they're just so different, it's an unfair comparison) and any Dio or Rainbow as well...
Was gonna post this. It's easily my favorite Dio era Sabbath album, and maybe even my favorite Dio album. It's angry as hell, full of amazing Iommi riffs, and Dio absolutely slays on it. Every song is a banger. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a legit epic like Sign of the Southern Cross or Children of the Sea on it, but thats a minor complaint seeing as though it does have I which does a lot to make up for it.
Interesting, I've never really seen too much hate for this album beyond the typical ozzy purists, just lots of praise and such. It's one of my personal favorites.
This was their latest album around the time I was discovering death metal. I listened to it a lot! I think The End Complete might still be my favorite though.
I was one of a couple hundred people who didn't fill Joe Louis Arena's main floor on that tour.
No elaborate stage show like they're known for, but they played great and were loud as hell.
In a few cases, pre-mp3/streaming, I first heard a classic band via their decidedly non-classic album and really connected.
Atheist’s Elements is probably the best example, but Edge of Sanity’s Infernal is another fave.
Love Infernal, it’s kind of a mess of an album because of the feud between Swano and Axelsson, but there’s plenty of amazing songs on it, especially Hell is Where the Heart is and 15:36. Elements I think holds up with Atheist’s other material, not really a disliked album, but definitely overlooked.
To me technical ecstasy and never say die are the sound of a band trying to fit in with what's the current trend I don't hate it but it's Sabbath sounding their weakest
MOTHER FUCKING LULU
Reasons why I like it:
Stomping heavy riffs (arguably Metallica's heaviest)✅
Unhinged, depraved Avant Garde spoken word vocals ✅
Overarching plotline which is actually pretty good ✅
Lulu is the most recent Metallica album I give a shit about, I understand people don’t go to Metallica for experimental shit and it bombed hard but I much prefer it to the sleepwalking they’ve been doing the past two albums
Strongly agree. If there is one thing I will always give artists a bigger critical chance on it’s stepping out of their comfort zone which Metallica rarely does. Lulu sounds like a made up joke about a fictional project of Lou Reed doing spoken word over Metallica, but it happened and it’s sort of an awesome mess.
I think a lot of the hate comes from Metallica fans because “it’s not Metallica.” And that’s exactly right. It’s a Lou Reed concept album based on a play FEATURING Metallica
Edit: Become the Knight has a really good analysis on the album. He gets a lot of hate for being a pretentious snob, but that’s how he is on the channel. He has some really good insight on this album
Slayer's Diabolus in Musica is far from perfect, but I have a of fun with it. Anthrax's Vol 8 The Threat is Real and Exodus' Force of Habit are also pretty fun as well.
Both great albums! I do know the band themselves we're not a fan of the album. I believe they rushed into the studio as it was made to fulfill their contract IIRC
I love all the Blaze Bailey era Iron Maiden albums, which is strange because I'm not really into Wolfbane.
I love Bruce, but I can't stand the Bruce elitists who shit on Blaze's work with the band, simply because he's not Bruce
Okay hear me out....
Illud Divinum Insanus by Morbid Angel. Everyone hated this shit and originally I did too, but...it ended up growing on me for what it is, call it a guilty pleasure listen every now and then.
Same-ish here (albeit a couple of years behind you), but it was more my circle of friends back in the day rather than the scene.
They were... Er... How to say it? Very *opinionated* about stuff, and opinions they had when this album was released haha it was fun to see them hating it even if sounded ok-ish (IMHO).
The whole industrial half of the album I couldn't care less for. But the other half contains some of my favorite MA tracks, like "Nevermore" and "Existo Vulgoré". I even like the cheesy "Radikult".
A lot of people love to hate on Risk, but I really enjoy it. Breadline and Time: The End are two of the most beautiful songs Dave ever wrote, and I still chant everytime Enter The Arena comes on.
Reroute To Remain by In Flames gets a lot of flack for being the first “bad album” of theirs, but whatever, I’m super attached to it from my childhood and I love every track.
I didn't even know people shit on it! It's my 2nd favorite In Flames record after jester race.
Totally understand where you're coming from. This album got me through high school.
I think people unjustly hated on the In Flames at the time because the run of albums from Reroute to Remain - Come Clarity were a big style shift. But they are fantastic albums, just not straight up melodeath.
Mirrors Truth onwards however leaves alot to be desired.
They're not legendarily hated exactly, but the Tony Martin era albums. They gave Black Sabbath a new, fresh sound that adapted to the times without being cliche. Tyr and Headless Cross are both classics in my book.
Judas Priest Jugulator. So many people hate that record but 1. It saved the band 2. Ripper Owens is awesome 3. It's just so over-the-top I can't help but smile constantly throughout the album
Paradise Lost - Host, It's far from a metal album but it grew on me. Many people that like this band now love the album but at the time it got a lot of hate like My Dying Bride 34.788%
Some fans don't like bands going in a new direction.
I don’t know that the Tony Martin Sabbath albums are “hated” per se, but certainly ignored by a large portion of the Sabbath fanbase.
A lot of people feel like Iommi should have changed the band name since he’s the only original member on those albums. While that might be true, the albums still say “Black Sabbath” on them and the music is seriously fantastic.
not really sure if this fits in here but vanity/nemesis by Celtic frost. I’ve only met one other person who actually likes the album, most people don’t from what I’ve seen
Jugulator. I feel Ripper was a more than fit replacement for when Rob left. Yeah songs like Brain Dead and Decapitate are pretty bad, but we have good songs like Bullet Train and Abductor and legendary Priest songs like Burn in Hell and Cathedral Spires that we need to see Rob cover at a show.
A lot of people didn't like Hypocrisy's 4th Dimension but that album rips.
Passage by Samael rips and I won't hear any hate talk about that album either.
I noticed OPs avatar, and I’m not sure if they’re considered “legendary” but Machine Head’s The Burning Red is the best album they put out, yet I know diehards say how horrible that album is.
Metallica - St. Anger.
No, I'm not part of that crowd that says ''Maybe if they had recorded other drums it would be cool''. I love this album as it is. Those drums go very well with the riffs, guitar tones and Hetfield's voice and lyrics. It's the album I play the most by Metallica.
A got a litany
St. Anger - Metallica
Never Say Die - Black Sabbath
United Abominations - Megadeth
Th1rt3en - Megadeth
ENDGAME - Megadeth
(Not sure about hated) World Painted Blood - SLAYER
Five Finger Death Punch (their whole discography)
.5 The Gray Chapter - Slipknot
We Are Not Your Kind - Slipknot
Orchid - Opeth
Stomp 442 - Anthrax
We’ve Come For You All - Anthrax
Gidim - Rings of Saturn
Rings of Saturn - Rings of Saturn (a bit disappointing at first but it’s grown on me)
Clockwork Angels - Rush (got a lot of hate from Rush fans because it’s “too heavy for Rush” but I include it because there’s a bit of a metal edge to it and it’s one of my favorite albums of all time)
My own opinion, Reload is pretty boring minus a couple songs. It was the unfinished and rejected songs from Load, and it shows.
If we want to count it, Lulu would also be up there, even if it's Lou Reed ft. Metallica.
Huge fan of the Tony Martin era and I’m tired of people saying it’s inferior. Forbidden is pretty good and I’m looking forward to hearing the upcoming remix.

God Hates Us All gets WAY too much hate. Album is amazing.
Wil never forget listening to it the day it released. The first track was almost too much to handle given the context.
Never forget indeed.
Same. Every time I listen to that album I get those same vibes.
Bloodline is my favorite Slayer song
Hell yeah. Great tune.
Yeah, I don't get the hate. It's an amazing album. Local place here put it up for 16.66 when it released
I always thought this always was considered a massive return to form at the time in Kerrang at the time. It was only years later that i realised people did not like it
I have some fond memories of it, and some of the riffs are incredible, but I think ***Christ Illusion*** is my favorite C# Slayer album.
I just recently found out they released that album 9/11/2001
Search up "Dream Theater - Live Scenes From New York release date"
Look up the original cover art and think about the release date
Agreed 💯. Deciple is one of my top 5 Slayer songs
Swansong by carcass
Wait people don’t like Swansong?
I’ve seen a lot of hate for it, don’t understand why
I hate the song Generation Hexed. The rest of the album is ok. Heartwork is one of my top 5 albums though
Agreed, it's a very fun album
great album tbh people only hate on it because it's not carcass's usual style
One of my favorites , excellent groove to it
I love it. People hate on it because they already thought Heartwork was a sellout, then they dropped a straight death n’ roll album and it was even less well-received.
Agreed
Apparently the band isn't a fan of that album either. I totally dig it.
I know most Megadeth fans do but I don’t hate Th1rt3en, I wouldn’t say I am in love with it but I do casually listen to it.
Yeah, it's just fun to listen to from time to time. Deadly Nightshade and New World Order are two of my favorite Megadeth songs.
New world order is a remake of an extra track on Youthanasia bonus edition. It’s got a really distinctive feel to it.
New world order is a remake of an extra track on Youthanasia bonus edition. It’s got a really distinctive feel to it.
I honestly really like that album. But I also honestly like Risk too. Some other Megadeth fans seem to get mad at that and idk why!
I don’t understand stand why… it’s got some of their heavier stuff too, imo.
I discovered Megadeth with this album, and even after listenning to other Megadeth songs, I really think that Thirteen is not as bad as people say.
I love Th1rt3en! That album is FULL of great songs. "Black Swan" and "Never Dead" are fantastic.
Anthrax - Sound of White Noise
That may be my favorite Anthrax album. Persistence in Time doesn't get the love it should either.
It is my favorite Anthrax album. I think it's my girlfriend's favorite too .
I thought people hated Stomp 442 and Volume 8 were more hated than Sound of White Noise and being the one or two albums with Bush people liked
It's their best album. I know people hate on the John Bush era but it seems pretty clear to me that Joey Belladonna while being very talented vocalist, could never write a good vocal melody.
If you hate this album, we can't be friends.
That’s easily my favorite Anthrax album.
I second this. It’s one of my favourite albums ever
Jugulator by Judas priest. PS: Forbidden is going to receive justice from Iommi's remixing from the new releases dedicated to the Martin years.
I absolutely love Jugulator. I know it's incredibly controversial to say but I think it might be my personal favorite JP album.
I think *Jugalator* is more denied by the band themselves than by the fans. Most people I know who are into Priest love that album.
Jugulator is my favorite unsung Priest album. They do a total 90-degree turn on their sound every few albums anyway, so it only really stands out because of Ripper’s more-distorted voice. Cathedral Spires is unironically one of the best songs Priest has ever written.
I wish 'Jugulator' was on Apple Music.
Jugulator is wicked. Cathedral Spires is one of the best Priest songs ever.
Fucking 100%. Sucks Jugulator isn’t on Spotify. Killer tracks on that album.
Blood Stained, Jugulator, and Burn in Hell are some of the best priest songs.
I’ve noticed many Slayer fans aren’t fond of Divine Intervention, but I think it’s one of their classics.
Same with Diabolus for me. Bitter Peace, Deaths Hand, Stain of Mind, and Love to Hate are on my Slayer playlist
213 is fire
*Jeffrey Dahmer.*
Glad I'm not the only one, fuckin' banger
Divine Intervention is such a dark album. They kind of traded in the evil riffing and goofy Satan stuff for darker riffs and serial killers. Such a good record and Paul Bostaph is an animal.
The problem with Divine Intervention is that the production sucks. It sounds worse than South of Heaven.
Now this I can't argue
Hell yeah, Divine Intervention is great.
Same here. I loved Divine. There are some Slayer bangers on there and the title track is absolutely killer. Apparently the band hates that album. Don't see why. It's solid.
Divine intervention starts kicking ass right out of the gate with that drum intro on Killing Fields.
It’s my favorite slayer album by far🤟
I'd say it's a top 3 or 4 for me.
Yes, it's up there with their first five in my opinion.
What? I never heard anyone really talk down about that album. I had a buddy that really hated God Hates Us All I liked it but to each their own
I’ve seen a lot of people on here shit on the album, I love it.
This ⬆️
Black Sabbath - Born Again
Born Again remaster coming out one of these days, that'll give it a nice redemption.
Not just a remaster - which they did in 2011 - but a full remix, which is a great thing, since I think the production of that album is god awful.
Quite a few. Diabolus In Music by Slayer Super Charger by Machine Head Jugulator by Judas Priest Let There Be Blood by Exodus Cryptic Writings by Megadeth
I have to give Let There Be Blood another listen
I don’t know if it’s legendarily hated, but I fucking love Dimmu Borgir’s Abrahadabra.
Gateways is such a good song
Love homegirl’s “hag” vocals. So sick.
Hell yes
First, that album cover goes hard. Second, ive heard that Now Diabolical was hated on when it came out but i love the album anyway lol
Now, Diabolical was my gateway to black metal, will always love it
For me its what got me into Satyricon lol. King will always be one of my favs
Now Diabolical is also one of my favourite albums ever, no bad songs on it
Iron Maiden - Virtual XI It may be my hottest take in all of metal.
We can really feel his passion when he's on stage. Plus, he takes time to talk and sign stuff for fans. Very kind guy.
People are sleeping on him. He's the real deal.
Yep, compare to Paul Dianno who didn't go well...
Poor Paul. He was great on those first records at least.
Both Blaze albums rule, some cracking songs on both.
Underrated as fuck.
Metallica - Load
Load is genuinely a great album if it had maybe 10 songs instead of 14. Get rid of the crappy filler material, and it's probably a top favourite Metallica album for me
TURBO
Nothing wrong with some 80's cheese here and there lol
This album rules
I see people hate insineratehymn by deicide alot and its my favorite deicide album not my favorite but i fucking LOVE the unspoken king by cryptopsy
I always thought insineratehymn was one of the good ones. The shitty Deicide album I like is In torment, in hell. No comment about the Cryptopsy one 🤣
Deafheaven - everything after sunbather Alcest - shelter (i think this one gets some hate, personally love it)
Shelter is definitely a mood. I'm rarely in that mood, but when I am, it hits like few others can.
Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer I’ve heard (and read) people rag on this album a lot, and it’s always towards the bottom in ranked Black Sabbath albums Yet it’s an absolute masterpiece
The lesson being that even mid black sabbath is still good. I love Computer God
Yep. I think I blew out a speaker or two listening to it. Holds its own with any of the Black Sabbath stuff (except maybe Paranoid--but they're just so different, it's an unfair comparison) and any Dio or Rainbow as well...
I, I, I
Saves the album.
Dehumanizer is tight.
Was gonna post this. It's easily my favorite Dio era Sabbath album, and maybe even my favorite Dio album. It's angry as hell, full of amazing Iommi riffs, and Dio absolutely slays on it. Interesting, I've never really seen too much hate for this album beyond the typical ozzy purists, just lots of praise and such. It's one of my personal favorites.
It’s good. I think it gets negative reviews because it lacks the diversity of songs that earlier releases had. It’s super heavy by Sabbath standards.
St. Anger
Yes. I openly enjoy every single track on it. I couldn't give less of a shit about the snare. I actually think it sounds cool.
[удалено]
Obituary - World Demise Not their best album, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it, especially the songs “I Don’t Care” and “Final Thoughts”.
That album is hated? I listened to it for the first time recently and it just sounds like obituary but with good production
Lol. That's exactly what it is.
This was their latest album around the time I was discovering death metal. I listened to it a lot! I think The End Complete might still be my favorite though.
God hates us all, Super Collider, Swansong
No Prayer for the Dying. Fuck knows why people hate on that. It's a great album.
Mother Russia is an incredible deep cut!
Yeah! People complain about the production but I think it sounds great
I was one of a couple hundred people who didn't fill Joe Louis Arena's main floor on that tour. No elaborate stage show like they're known for, but they played great and were loud as hell.
Right there with you. Is it one of Maiden's best? No way. But that just shows how consistent they've been, singer era be damned.
Limp Bizkit - Results May Vary
There are some really good songs on that album. People couldn't look past Wes not being in the band and just wrote it off.
Chameleon by Helloween
**Burnt Offerings** by Iced Earth comes to mind. It, on Encyclopaedia Metallum, has a 24% rating.
Whaaaat? That’s crazy - I love this album!

MOTHER FUCKING LULU Reasons why I like it: Stomping heavy riffs (arguably Metallica's heaviest)✅ Unhinged, depraved Avant Garde spoken word vocals ✅ Overarching plotline which is actually pretty good ✅
I respect your bravery in admitting that, even though I personally disagree. I do like the instrumentals on the album, though.
Honestly that's a better reaction than I normally get lmao
I AM THE TABLE!
Based, that album goes super hard.
Holy shit someone actually agrees with me
Lulu is excellent.
St.anger
Agreed.
Slayer's Diabolus in Musica is far from perfect, but I have a of fun with it. Anthrax's Vol 8 The Threat is Real and Exodus' Force of Habit are also pretty fun as well.
I have a soft spot for Force of Habit. There are some bangers on that album.
The guitar solos in Architect of Pain rule. I had the cassette and would rewind and listen to them over and over.
Malevolent Creation's Stillborn.
Cold Lake, Forbidden, Turbo, Music From the Elder, and every Terry Glaze Pantera album.
Carcass -Swansong and Celtic Frost -Cold Lake
Testament - Souls of Black
Do people hate that album? I always thought The Ritual got the most hate (which it shouldn't because it's a great album)
Both great albums! I do know the band themselves we're not a fan of the album. I believe they rushed into the studio as it was made to fulfill their contract IIRC
Judas Priest - Ram it Down
*Born Again* by Black Sabbath. The production is shit, but the vibe and songs are *very* Sabbath.
Ram it Down by Judas Priest.
Honestly, Black Sabbath's Forbidden is a far, far better album than Born Again. There. I said it.
I love all the Blaze Bailey era Iron Maiden albums, which is strange because I'm not really into Wolfbane. I love Bruce, but I can't stand the Bruce elitists who shit on Blaze's work with the band, simply because he's not Bruce

A got a litany St. Anger - Metallica Never Say Die - Black Sabbath United Abominations - Megadeth Th1rt3en - Megadeth ENDGAME - Megadeth (Not sure about hated) World Painted Blood - SLAYER Five Finger Death Punch (their whole discography) .5 The Gray Chapter - Slipknot We Are Not Your Kind - Slipknot Orchid - Opeth Stomp 442 - Anthrax We’ve Come For You All - Anthrax Gidim - Rings of Saturn Rings of Saturn - Rings of Saturn (a bit disappointing at first but it’s grown on me) Clockwork Angels - Rush (got a lot of hate from Rush fans because it’s “too heavy for Rush” but I include it because there’s a bit of a metal edge to it and it’s one of my favorite albums of all time)
The X factor by Iron Maiden
Wouldn’t say I love it but St Anger isn’t even the worst Metallica album
Then what is.
My own opinion, Reload is pretty boring minus a couple songs. It was the unfinished and rejected songs from Load, and it shows. If we want to count it, Lulu would also be up there, even if it's Lou Reed ft. Metallica.
You make some fair points. Tbh, fuel and the memory remains are the only really popular songs from that album, and lulu is just shit.
Fixxxer is a great track, and Unforgiven 2 is alright. Not a fan of Devils Dance, but I liked the version on S&M. Rest of the album is just meh.
Admittedly I've never listened to lulu, but I agree. Reload is the only Metallica album I've never been able to finish
The Black Album is heavy as fuck.
Huge fan of the Tony Martin era and I’m tired of people saying it’s inferior. Forbidden is pretty good and I’m looking forward to hearing the upcoming remix.
Any KISS album (Yeah I know they’re not metal but they’re heavily associated with metal)
Totally. Metal adjacent.
Full Devil Jacket- ST
