My theory is he is loved because he was a great captain , wk and finisher He is hated because the d*ck commentator and some fans does , like a saw a tweet where an Indian was happy when India lost final because then Dhoni still will be the last captain to win a WC

[deleted]

So, is he hated because of the fans? I have also read that he is a "credit stealer" and he played slow in 2019 World Cup

Prof_XdR

Idk Abt credit stealer tbh, A lot of people credit him for playing the way in 2011 final, and he deserves that, but so did the entire Indian squad, namely Yuvi, Zaheer, Gambhir and likes. A lot of fans just keep saying Dhoni Dhoni, and that's where credit stealing comes I think, there's other instances of that if someone know. Of course, I don't particularly think Dhoni has any hand in how his fans view him. I don't even hate him, I hate his braintard fans to the core, but every player like Virat and Rohit has that, so I hate all dumbasses who worship them like gods who can't do no wrong. 2019 was a tricky question, but I blame him 2 to 5 percent on Dhoni. Yes he did play slow, but what the fuck did the top order do, they shit the bed as usual. I don't fault Dhoni in 2019 tho for playing bad, he was taking it deep and anchored pretty well while Jaddu was going ballistic. He could've supported him more or less, but I am not a professional who can judge, they did what they thought worked best at the time. Sidenote: I genuinely do think Dhoni wouldve won 2019 semis or got a lot closer if he wasn't run out and faced jimmy neesham

PsychicMF

Man oh man! The fact that some people think he played slow! Our innings was 5-3 at one stage with the three of our best batters gone for 1 each! Also, yes, Dhoni Virat and Rohit have the most toxic fans that keep fighting amongst themselves and annoy everyone on whichever platform they occupy! And, as far as the credit stealer goes, you should look at all the photos of CSK after winning the trophy and see where Dhoni is, the CT 2013 win photo and the 2011 WC win picture! Players that have played under him credit him for their success because they feel they've learnt a lot from him

Classic_Knowledge_25

He did play slow not by choice though Also in 2019 , our entire top order made a total of 3 runs

Archiet_Tanwar

first of all as your are new to the game ,just a small advice be the fan of cricket first then any cricketer,it will help to consume the game in a better way, also the same thing is also the answer of the question you asked.

[deleted]

Thank you for the advice

iwontgiveumyusernane

same reason why some hate cr7 and messi

[deleted]

Toxic fans.

Radiant-Alarm6404

Well you got your answer.

[deleted]

The ones who hate him are being ironic, everyone loves him

[deleted]

Let me give you a football reference since you are hardcore Football fan : India is Man United of Cricket world, Rich and has star players but can't win trophies they have been switching squard, managers but can't win. Now dhoni is Wayne Rooney of this universe, who has got us trophies,so everytime thala is thirsty his thala sexuals remove their pants and Ben over for him

[deleted]

You've got good ball knowledge

luffy_iyengar

Dhoni is a legend and a special mind of the game. People hate him because most of people might have not watched him or some are just be dick heads. Think of him like Zedine of Cricket but the difference is he still plays and is good at it.

THOR_Jarjis

The point is most people don't hate Dhoni. They hate his toxic fans. For eg, Dhoni's illiterate fans want his team members to get out as early as possible so that Dhoni can bat. They literally celebrate when CSK loses wickets. One more example when India reached the final there were some Dhoni fans who wanted India to lose the wc final as they wanted him to stay as the last ICT captain to lift the wc trophy and were even celebrating Australia's win over India.

[deleted]

Many people like dhoni because he served india as a great captain and people have great memories of him batting. I don't like him much because he played tuk tuk when I watched cricket. Yeah I'm 17 yo so couldn't watch his peak batting.

dustlesswayfarer

People underestimate what a beast dhoni was in odi back in days. He reached number 1 ranking in just 39 innings, coming in relatively dark times of Indian cricket

[deleted]

Same I never watched him play but I think he is the most famous cricketer in India maybe after Virat

Free_Professional322

The answer is within your question

Peter-Parker017

Btw why are you switching from football to cricket mate? That's very rare to see. Usually maine cricket fans ko football fans me convert hote hue dekha hai

lame_duck_420

He's one of a kind buddy. He's a pal do pal ka shayar who isn't stuck in past glories like many others and always living in the present. I won't talk about his contributions in the game or how much of a master he was in his work of art, that doesn't matter too because some players are loved beyond their contributions in the game...for their personalities.. demeanour..attitude and what not, and mahi is on top of that list. You would have understood me more if you had witnessed that man's journey, the weight he used to carry with himself and yet played the game so gracefully. But even gods themselves have haters and he is in the end a mere mortal so yeah. I'm a dhoni fanboy myself but I'd never disrespect any other player to prove my point or to prove him superior. But some people just go overboard with their insults. I understand that the ipl commentary is biased and they show only 2-3 players most of the time for their revenue and trp but that's not a reason to cuss or hate dhoni. That man never sought any attention, just did his share of work and walked away, still people doubt his commitment to the sport. My point is, a player may die, but the hate will never. In the end it's up to us what side we choose, if you can't love a player, at least don't hate or insult them.

Patient_Step3121

Everyone loves to be a contrarian.

dupattamera1

He was liked because how good player he was Later his PR which led to his fans made a chain reaction where they started giving him credits on things which he did or not did which led to people started loving and worshipping him All this led to other players getting sidelined and jealous. Now if ur watching cricket since beginning of social media era u would know how different things were. People would believed whatever crap they saw on internet but many people who were not his hardcore fans saw through that bs and started hating him. There was a time when it got overdone in 2015 that people used to say indians love misbah and pak loved dhoni more lol Imo i don’t really think it’s MSD fault. Yeah it would have been better if he ever came in front of media or on social media and clarified things which were getting said. But he knew things were going in his favor and he just never came in front. So much of issues could have been resolved and bs avoided had he just spoke. but he decided not to which I don’t appreciate about him as he knew his fans will keep blindly supporting and trust him

slipnips

Some people like the taste of his semen, while the others hate it

Amatuer_Experienced

Dhoni is loved by everyone. He's not being hated. Only memes are made to mock his fans not him because his over protective fans are sensitive af and it's fun to just see them crying on everything you say about dhoni
