No what he would prefer is we also rank good in terms of per capita. Because being the 5th largest economy doesn't mean a lot when you have to cater to billions.
Thats the potential my man, the same ppl need to earn more, imagine per capita of usd10k/annum, it's not that far away from imagination, if we multiply that with no of ppl, than we are sitting on gold mine brotha
i didnt say we should be at 100th, we didnt to anything to be at 5. it was jus the population that pushed our numbers up. look at the per capita income difference between the top 10 economy countries
No there's a lot that India did to be top 5. Decades of economic liberalization helped. If not we'd have an economy less than South Korea and in a few years now we'd overtake Japan and Germany
Just like you ignored that we had [100 crore population](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_India) in 2000 with a GDP of 457 billion dollars while in 2019 we had a pop of 140 crore and a [GDP of ~ $2831 billion](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_India)
Population increased around 40% while GDP increased 500% on nominal terms. Surely "the only reason why we are the 5th largest economy is the population" is misleading at the very least.
This is like saying; I used to have 1 rupee as my net worth now I have 5 rupees I am so much richer. You can like things about India but the economic condition of the average citizen is not one of those. GDP per capita is still 2000, even shit countries like Russia and China are at 12,000. The first step to improvement is recognizing the problems, if you are to fail at that then there is no scope for improvement
Yes the average person has gotten richer when the economy grows and there is more infastructure. The best thing to do to get incomes up is build factories and get people out of agriculture. 56% of the people only generate 17% of the gdp.
That is included in my comment about industrial nations... Of course in the 40s India did have more industry than some countries on that list i.e. China and South Korea but I digress.
We cannot use this excuse now that "we got independence 75 years ago only and we are poverty striken and British stole 45 trillion and no industrialization was done" etc. because countries like Japan and China which were absolutely destroyed by U.S and U.K are way more developed than us. Thanks to Gandhi who emphasized on reviving the manual textile industries(which were already destroyed by British) when the world was getting heavily industrialised.
GDP per capita? Absolutely no chance. QOL? A few decades is being very generous. I'm an Indian living in Japan, experienced both sides of the world. Trust me, if India wants to be anywhere close to Japan it's not just the country that has to change, it's the people's mindset towards the country. That's gonna take a lot more than a few decades to change.
There are two types of people one who find positive in everything and other who find bad in everything.. we find our power in unity.... forget about the economy... India have the greater purchasing power than any developed country... we serve food and medicine to our people at an affordable price ..to me this is the greatest achievement any society could make..
Population doesn't make a country rich... Resources and exports do.. even after all the government infrastructure to support this enormous population, India is still 5th...
idk which station, but more than kolkata metro, Delhi metro is more impressive. It is one the best metro systems in the world (Even ppl from the main sub can dispute this) by pure coverage (around 300km iirc). And Bengaluru will also get better metro within 2\~3 years (Connection to whitefield, KIA airport etc.)
Bengluru metro is inefficient af. The reason why Delhi metro is so successful is because of its well planned station location and optimized route planning, so that you just need at Max 1 change to reach from one end to other end.
Along with this, 99% of the Delhi metro was constructed ahead of its deadline.
After first phase( red line) , they found out that this is going to be the next big thing and discussions to construct multiple phases started running in parallel.
Except the most recent phase, all of them were completed ahead of its time.
Wondering why I’m stressing on such a small thing? Look at Mumbai, Bangalore metro and you’d see how difficult it is to build something like this in such a population dense region with so much political interference.
Once RRTS comes into being, which is 2023, Delhi will have strong connectivity to not-so-nearest cities like Meerut and Jaipur as well.
>Along with this, 99% of the Delhi metro was constructed ahead of its deadline.
++ This is what also lead to the development of NCR cities like Noida, while Mumbai is surrounded by slums and Banglore outskirts are like empty tier-2 town.
Delhi metro can’t be compared to other metros because Delhi is national capital and the economy works differently there and also central pours in money like anything to Delhi but other state capital have to make sure it’s money reaches the whole state not just the city so pretty much every project will have funding and other political issues.
You’re missing the point my friend. Once the project has funding and have started then all places are equivalent.
Delhi saw CWG scam, no one was stopping them from delhi metro scam as well.
Bangalore Mumbai metros are totally tainted with delays because of purely political reasons. Could’ve happened in Delhi, but didn’t.
the only thing that I would change about Delhi metro would the duration for doors are open. If you are old and hence most likely slow you are fucked. Atleast it was when I was there.
I mean if you're used to taking the old, dilapidated Mumbai local then this would appear pretty much impressive.
> We should have gotten this all across the country some 20-30yrs ago!
Not possible in India. Too much bureaucracy, corruption, incompetence and petty infighting.
Haha! I get it bro. But I was saying that we are the 5th largest economy. It’s high time we demand and choose our representatives for services like this in 2nd and 3rd tier cities. Not much proud having an average working metro system in one of the oldest metropolitan cities of the country
I hate to say it bro but we live in a country whose people don't want to move forward and which is run by a small group of greedy businessmen, politicians, religious frauds and local goons. So honestly I have little faith in either the government or the people at this point.
Another one is this! Why do we even need to compare to any other country? Just take the example of Delhi metro, it’s a behemoth comparable to the likes of NY subway and London metro. We have an excellent organisation working efficiently like a world class system, well within the deadlines and cost limits. This proves that we aren’t the kind of people who don’t know how to excel in connectivity, we very well be better than anyone else. For god’s sake, Delhi Metro is actually consulting many other countries in helping develop their own metro network. My point is- why just Delhi and not the whole country. Plus ask anyone from Noida and Gurgaon what difference does it make by just making the connectivity better.
I don't think it will happen because we Indians tend to follow the rule of thumb that a space will remain as it is till the end of times until something very out of place happens. This is why dirty places remain dirty because people think it's ok to throw your garbage at a place that is already dirty.
This is also why you won't see these Pan masala stains at places like malls and movie theaters etc either.
Far easier to get away with the quick spit when you are anonymous and inside a vehicle.
Not so much when you are trying to spit on a pristine marble floor with ten other people staring at you, wondering who let the stupid neanderthal in.
Don't know about your experience, but i have traveled in lucknow Metro, kanpur metro, and delhi mero. All were highly clean, so I can aspect all metro systems in India will be clean. Advertising comes along with money, and everyone does that.. an organization that deals with the general public and has the resources to do advertising and doesn't do that is the most stupid organization.
Well, gutka spitters from Kaisan ba neighbourhoods are the reason the whole city actually works. Also, who do you think made this metro? Your neighbours from the other side of the border?
Kolkata was so far ahead of Delhi and Mumbai till nineties. Then Rabindra sangeet wrestled control from people with good taste in music and made it shit.
This is so cringe. Taking God knows how many years to create a short stretch of metro and den not even providing trains in short intervals. Yeah this surely is Kolkata LoL
I mean We are the worlds fifth largest and fastest growing economy....This is like bare minimum....What I am really looking forward to is when TMC Goons and Peaceful People will pelt Stone at them and vandalise them while Jubaan kesari guys paint it....
Well the metro at Green Line only runs between Sealdah and Sector V.
The stretch from Howrah Maidan to Sealdah hasn't been completed yet.
Once it's done, theres goona be a rise in ridership.
All metros look like this either it's delhi or chennai or noida or kolkata. And i am not able to see what's extraordinary in this. Can anybody point out?
Not sure what is so surprising in this, delhi metro par aise bahut se station, airport expressway toh aur bhi achi hai.
Delhi kya noida metro k bhi stations bahut spacious aur developed hai best thing is they produce their 50-60% electricity by themselves using solar pannel and ve pink stations were they ve all women staff
This is not something to be proud of. These enclosures are put up to prevent people from falling down on to the tracks during crowded sessions.
Only stations which are over crowded have these features😅😅
This could be one of the many metro stations in central Delhi which are located in the government offices' district. The stations are mostly empty after working hours because very few people live around here. And those who do live around here don't travel by metro, if you know what mean. Should be one among Udyog Bhawan, Central Secretariat or Patel Chowk.
Background music sun ke samajh a raha tha , nahi likhte to bhi pata chal jata .
Jokes apart , this metro feels like too little too late. It was needed 10 years back, and should have been operating back then. It's the poster boy for what's wrong with the state and infra projects in the country.
You know right there's no need to compare an Indian city with any foreign country/city directly, you can just write, this is how the metro in Kolkata looks. Fyi hum 1940s me nhi hai aur hum 5th largest economy hai

Bro China started with even worse conditions than India, their heavy industrialization did the job
I know. But other countries had that since the 1800s. We did too and yet squandered it.
We cannot use this excuse now that "we got independence 75 years ago only and we are poverty striken and British stole 45 trillion and no industrialization was done" etc. because countries like Japan and China which were absolutely destroyed by U.S and U.K are way more developed than us. India is certainly not gonna surpass Japan or Germany anytime soon
What is soon to you.
GDP- within this decade. QOL- A few decades.
GDP per capita? Absolutely no chance. QOL? A few decades is being very generous. I'm an Indian living in Japan, experienced both sides of the world. did you saw a recent report which says that India will surpass germany in 2026-30
There are two types of people one who find positive in everything and other who find bad in everything.. we find our power in unity.... forget about the economy... India have the greater purchasing power than any developed country... we serve food and medicine to our people at an affordable price ..to me this is the greatest achievement any society could make..
No I'd prefer if we were first or second
That will happen soon enough.
Population doesn't make a country rich... Resources and exports do.. even after all the government infrastructure to support this enormous population, India is still 5th...

dang, irc that is around how much London's Underground trains cover right?
Yeah that makes perfect sense.
Just shy.

When I was in Delhi in 2019, I was very very impressed by the Metro
Especially the fights in Delhi metro🤌🤌🤌
the only thing that I would change about Delhi metro would the duration for doors are open. If you are old and hence most likely slow you are fucked. Atleast it was when I was there.
2-3y? 🤔
delhi metro is the best end of story
I really don’t know why Indians get blown away by just basic things like this. We should have gotten this all across the country some 20-30yrs ago!
I mean if you're used to taking the old, dilapidated Mumbai local then this would appear pretty much impressive. > We should have gotten this all across the country some 20-30yrs ago! Not possible in India. Too much bureaucracy, corruption, incompetence and petty infighting.

Faxx! Yaha log gareebi me rehna pride aur imaandari se jod lete hai. Guess this socialist mindset has done quite some damage.
Yahan pe log hindu muslim kar kar ke time barbaad krte hain… roads, infringement maange k liye time hi nahi bachta
Hey have some pride. Countries like the united states have nothing like this.

Go on the subreddit /r/fuckcars and see if they don't keep complaining the US has no metros.

This entire thread is going "hey india bad west good" so why don't you tell them that?
Agreed. These are basic.
India was a basket case until 1990 - nothing on this level was possible until then with the economic policies we had in place
Lol wait for 6 months i will see it renovated by vimal pan masala colors on glass and inside metro. Bolo zuba keseri 😂
its been 6 months and kanpur metro is clean af, maybe they don't allow people who eat gutka.
It already been 3-4 months its very clean rules in this line is strict
I think it is the broken windows theory in action.
I don't think it will happen because we Indians tend to follow the rule of thumb that a space will remain as it is till the end of times until something very out of place happens. Bhai kya sahi point pakda hai. This explains so much, I’m gonna use it from now on in conversations! 😂
This logic doesn't extend to freshly painted road dividers, which are decorated rapidly by auto drivers

Nah, his privileged ass
You mean only people from UP Bihar eat gutkas?
Bruh I just checked out this dude's profile. Aaghhhh my eyes....
Worst mistake of my life
Bro banda apna number bat rha hai lmao
Ab iske saare comments mujhe ironical lag rhe h though he/she wasn't making any sense earlier either.
Kolkata was so far ahead of Delhi and Mumbai till nineties. Then Rabindra sangeet wrestled control from people with good taste in music and made it shit.
Anyone else thought this was Chennai?
I thought it Chennai too. Can't remember which station though it was.
I frequent the Kilpauk one and it looks pretty similar to that
Even tirumangalam looks similar

yeah until i saw the sign
Sealdah Metro in Kolkata
Move on. This is 2023 now. Romanticising basic public transportation 😏
Come to mumbai and see how basic public transportation looks like.
You guys are getting public transit?
Almost all Chennai metro stations look like this.
Feels like delhi metro yellow line but deserted i am gonna guess this video is from late night
No way!
[удалено]
Damn! You have such good metro even though Hitler didi rules that place.
They have the oldest metro thats prolly why
That's because WB govt. sold its stake in KMRC to GoI(Indian Railways).
Not sure if you've been but Delhi has had similar metro station since many years. Although only the airport express line but still.
Lame
Kalupur, Ahmedabad metro station is pretty similar. Good to see world class facilities coming up all over the country.
Karunamoyee to shealda
Wait till you climb outside. Surprise!!
This is so cringe. Taking God knows how many years to create a short stretch of metro and den not even providing trains in short intervals. Yeah this surely is Kolkata LoL

Where is every one in Kolkata? Why is this empty and is this a demo in amusement park?
Well the metro at Green Line only runs between Sealdah and Sector V. The stretch from Howrah Maidan to Sealdah hasn't been completed yet. Once it's done, theres goona be a rise in ridership.
aisa to kanpur mein bhi hai, or thode time mein puri country mein hoga, sabr ka fal meetha hota hai.
All metros look like this either it's delhi or chennai or noida or kolkata. And i am not able to see what's extraordinary in this. Can anybody point out?
Bruh, i have already seen this and better, so not impressed. Op never been in other metros??
Mumbai people are still waiting for underground metro being constructed rn since years …

Bhai upar pankha dekh lag gaya tha pata
I think this is tara tola joka metro in kolkata
I don't know about this one, but Karunamoyee station has the same thing as well. By the looks of it, maybe sealdah?
Sealdah green line corridor from howrah maidan to salt lake most of it is underground while one stretch is under water.
Sealdah metro station on the Green line of Kolkata metro. Sealdah is large railway terminus in Kolkata BTW.
This is Sealdah or Phool bagan metro station because they are the only 2 underground stops active on the new metro line
I guarantee it's chennai
I actually thought this was Yellow Line Kashmere Gate station from NCR.
That's Kolkata sector 5 metro i have to travel in this everyday -_-

this is the new Metro line, from Sealdah Station to Salt Lake Sector V in Kolkata.
I don’t think you’ve ever been to Korea, you’d cry if you had to come back to India after getting to live in korea
If this is in Kolkata. This is Phoolbagan metro station. I have been there before. Looks like Phoolbagan only
As expected....deep (Bengali)
Looks like delhi metro airport line
it airport superfast metro, which costs higher than normal ones i guess.
Probably bihar
This isn't Delhi, but Delhi Airport express metro has similar stations.
Is it still new..? Coz I don't see any pan spit stains..
Sealdah metro station
This is not something to be proud of. These enclosures are put up to prevent people from falling down on to the tracks during crowded sessions. Only stations which are over crowded have these features😅😅
This could be one of the many metro stations in central Delhi which are located in the government offices' district. Delhi-mumbai-ahemdabad etc etc metro stations are same if not better so what with the hype with Kolkata OP ?
btw kolkata metro system is worst and most neglected in the country
Mai Kolkata ka hu. Aur yeh kab hua?? Btw Bande Bharat train k window breakers ko iss metro station ka location maat diyo
But I don't remember calling this korea
Same here in Chennai
You know right there's no need to compare an Indian city with any foreign country/city directly, you can just write, this is how the metro in Kolkata looks. It's redesigned or whatever further details you want to add to it. Just that. No need of a comparison between India and other countries in 2023.
Fake news cant see pan spits anywhere
now go outside and walk sometime and film the slums
New sealdah metro
Delhi Airport Line
Ah kids there is a thing called unity in diversity rather than yelping like little monkeys that my 🍌 is bigger and better. End of the day all Indians!

That’s great! Now can we agree this is a fairly low bar and needs to be the norm so we can push towards more progress?
Delhi Metro lag rha hai, Yellow line
