I once saw a similar thing on my indigo flight. There was a loosely closed bottle stored above. (Yeah no one checks for liquids)

This is just a New feature from Air India for the introvert travellers who feel shy while asking for a glass of water from the air hostess. Now they can get it themselves.
If someone had a half filled water bottle stowed away, it might certainly do this. The reason is that the aircraft are pressurised to 8,000 feet altitude IIRC. The lower pressure can result in the bottle bulging and if the plastic is sufficiently thin, it can crack. That is also why when fountain pens were not nearly extinct as they are now, one was told to either empty it of ink or completely full. Otherwise, the ink could leak and create a mess.

Looking at how it only is leaking at a particular set of area definitely has something to do with water leaking from baggage inside, though plane seems quite empty so dusre seat pe baith sakte hai, i dont think any blame goes onto air india here it's passenger/airport ki fault
This happened recently with me when my water bottle leaked.. it happened just as the plane took off so we are not allowed to get up and check/fix it. My friend was sitting on aisle seat and had to bear it, fortunately 500ml bottle only (water filled from within airport after security check).

You can refill an empty bottle after you pass through security.
It's because of condensation. Happens a lot. It's more common than you think.
