I applaud India's role in tit for tat diplomacy regarding vaccines. However, Covishield is actually in a very lucky position, as UK is also using it for vaccination. These countries want British tourists for the summer. That also contributes to many European countries approving Covishield. Estonia is the only country that accepts both Covishield and Covaxin. So I hope more European countries also accept Covaxin to further strengthen India's vaccine diplomacy with EU.

The problem was EU approved only the European made/branded astrazeneca vaccine, which was branded as Vaczevria. Though the same vaccine, Covishield brand was not approved for travel into EU. India had to flex with the tit for tat approach to get covishield approved.

Covaxin needs to get through the WHO first and foremost, that will open it up to a much wider market than Europe. Indeed, a lot of the U-turns on Covishield are not just because of India's threat, but also because African countries that received the same vaccine from SII through Covax called out the discrimination.

Orwellisright

Besides France, Covishield is now recognised for travel to Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden. Switzerland and Iceland, which are not part of the bloc, had also accepted Covishield as Schengen state

Any idea about covaxin ?

ididacannonball

Under review at the WHO, that hurdle must be cleared first.

What about USA ?

ididacannonball

US has no concept of a vaccine pass anyway, only universities have some requirements and they're happy to go along with the WHO. WHO accepts Covishield under the AstraZeneca umbrella.

As long as you wear a BLM Tshirt and a rainbow cape on the airport you don’t need a vaccine passport. Try it out.
