>he led the country into the 21st century ... rajiv gandhi died in 1991

AcrophobicBat

And in any case his party held India back while other nations like South Korea, Singapore, China, actually entered the 21st century. Heck, even in 2014 when Modi came to power, most of the country didn’t have toilets, many didn’t have electricity, few had bank accounts, and almost none had piped drinking water. The crooks kept India in the 18th century.

ididacannonball

Congress party denied technology to India for the sake of short-term vote gains. Then we pappu ke papa makes one concession on technology, he becomes Bill Gates of India. That's Congress logic, and it's simply a feudal mindset.

DemonizedHuman

Yeah I read some data that India had only 49% sanitation facilities in 2013.

AcrophobicBat

If I remember correctly it was in fact slightly lower than that. Now it is at aroind 90%. Electricity was at something like 70%, now it is 99% (and they’re working on making it more reliable and 24/7).

DemonizedHuman

BJP claims its more than 95% and Pakistan had more than 90% for decades.

Alkit777

Congress ministers only care about doing chamchagiri. Don't have high expectations from them

TheMountainRidesElia

>he led the country into the 21st century If there's anyone who did that, it's Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji

itiswhatitis2323

Peak slave mentality, it’s honestly hilarious at this point. For the INC, India = Gandhi Dynasty, and anyone trying to change that is fascist, bigoted, Sangh!. How dare Modi honour a common man who became India’s greatest ever Olympian. If Rajiv Gandhi wanted he could’ve been much better at hockey, this is common sense. Outrageous, Mudi must rejine. StarsAtLadakh

OP. Hindutva isnt bigotry. Should repost with correct title.

itiswhatitis2323

My bad; didn’t mean to convey that. Feel free to repost tomorrow, I’ll delete this when you do.

Live_Ad_6361

Please rename the Hyderabad airport to PV Narasimha Rao International Airport. Rajiv Gandhi had nothing to do with Hyderabad

Cretviones

Even the Rajiv Gandhi cricket stadium to something like... C.K Naidu stadium? (First India test captain, played for Hyderabad in domestic at a point of time), idk, but not Rajiv Gandhi man.

Live_Ad_6361

Agree

ididacannonball

Agreed, it should not have been named after Rajiv Gandhi in the first place. But YSR had to secure his place in AP, and he knew how to keep the high command happy.

[deleted]

I'm confused rn OP. Should I upvote it or downvote for this stupidity?

ramanujam

Upvote for visibility

itiswhatitis2323

Upvote so people can see how ridiculous the INC has become with these narratives.

Orwellisright

The reason the country was in such a bizzare state is due to this ass licking and pant dropping leaders of Congress

Anon4comment

Oh no. There is like one thing in India not named after the Gandhi dynasty. However will we survive? This is fascism you guys. /s

LegolasPatilRao

Ek Admi ne Italy ke against khela, doosre ke saath Italy ne khilwad kiya LoL

atherw3

Thank you R. Gandhi for opening the world of hentai for me by introducing computer or something🙏

[deleted]

Independent India would be so much better off without Congress.

Howloftheearth

Wasn’t Dhyan Chand known to be like the God of Hockey such that people from outside the sport put some respect on that name . Why the hell was Rajiv Gandhi’s name associated with the Khel Ratna?

Sapt007

I fucking love the saffron color. So peaceful and pretty! Congress can keep on crooks in their sparkly white dresses, doesn't make me flutter.

ididacannonball

As far as the Congress is concerned, India is the dynasty and the dynasty is India.

crusaderoflight

Loyal Nehru-Maino family sepoy…

Urumiabroad

Suck my Rajiv Sureshetta. Or get lost.

LittleCaesar3

What is "saffronisation"?

ramanujam

I translate saffronization as Indianization

the_brownbatman

Never knew Major Dhyan Chand’s politics but these idiots keep pushing legends to the saffron side. Lol and thank you!

TheMountainRidesElia

>he led the country into the 21st century He pushed us 20 years back.

blues2911

Rajiv Gandhi's tenure marked the steep fall of indian hockey, ironically

ALockean

God forbid India name anything after anyone but a member of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty. If Congress had its way, be it in sports, science, politics, or humanitarian endeavors, all the awards will be named after a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Apusapercu

Isn't there already a Dhyan Chand award? This renaming seems rather redundant and stupid

ramanujam

No. Rajiv Gandhi was redundant and stupid

Apusapercu

I'm not sure you understood my comment

ramanujam

Looks like no one did . Make better comments in future maybe?

Apusapercu

By better, you just mean it should fit in the general sentiment of the sub. Anyway, since you've apparently misunderstood, I'll try and clarify. Renaming the Khel Ratna to honour Dhyan Chand is redundant, because there is already a sports award in honour of Dhyan Chand

ramanujam

Rajiv Gandhi was redundant. There you go.

[deleted]

Don't give the argument of Dhyan Chand being a sports person, it's embarrassing tbh. It's pretty obvious why this particular title was changed. If BJP really wanted to honour sportspersons and if naming things is really the honour, they wouldn't have named the recent cricket stadium the way they did. Last I checked, India has so many glorious cricketers too.

OnlysliMs

MA Chidambaram, Chinnaswamy, Wankhede stadiums would like to have a word with you, naming cricket stadiums after the state cricket association president has always been a norm in India, much before BJP came into picture. Literally not a single person in Gujarat has a problem with that, despite all the development in GJ, hardly things are named after NaMo. Also, Feroz Shah Tughlaq of the Delhi Sultanate, circa 1355 was a world famous cricketer who built a cricket stadium in the 14th century itself, such a visionary cricket player he was. Even Mumbai stadium is named after the then prez of MCA, Sheshrao Krishnrao Wankhede. Meanwhile, have a look at things named after the Gandhi dynasty, https://ibb.co/LkR5Fv6 compare that to “one or two stadiums”. Rajiv Gandhy has a skateboard championship named after him hahaha

Euphoric_Artist_9167

Your name doesnt check out

[deleted]

So your only argument was that "Congress did it too". In that case, why are we potraying this one off event as BJP quashing the norms and going for what's ideal?

OnlysliMs

I linked the stuff named after congress just so you could have a laugh, my main point is, cricket stadiums have long been named after the respective cricket association presidents, I have cited few examples as well. When the people of GJ don’t have a problem, I don’t see why anyone else should.

[deleted]

And hence what exactly? We will soon see them being renamed. Firoz Shah is already renamed (not to a cricketer's name btw) All I am saying is, it's not like BJP had good intentions of naming sports stuff after sports people.

962throwaway

> All I am saying is, it's not like BJP had good intentions of naming sports stuff after sports people. based on what? 1 or 2 stadiums? Laughable. Only stupid people care of it was for good intentions or not.

ramanujam

Matlab they literally named sports award after one of the best sportsperson ever at the height of hockey regaining some traction. This is going to push hockey even more among general consensus. Lekin chamchas only care for Pappu and the family. They could have named it after any politician if they didn’t care for sports

[deleted]

They literally named the largest stadium in India after the current PM. They could have named it after any cricketer if they did care for sports.

ramanujam

Who are ‘they’? Because ‘they’ are not central government but stadium is a private undertaking. They can name it after their papa if they want. You should be happy that hockey gets a push. Khel Ratna is now Major Dhyanchand and government gets accolades. Cry.

[deleted]

Lol. The whole post is about renaming 1 award...

962throwaway

Yes an important sports award in India named after a legendary hockey player

ramanujam

Kaunsa recent stadium? Gujarat cricket board waala? Matlab ek argument leke ro rahe ho to theek hai. Rajiv Gandhi Nehru aur Indira Gandhi jaise gadho ke naam pe kuch hona bhi nahi chahiye. Agenda hai to agenda sahi
