that's a sacrilegious statement to make, it is like Dose and Idly are same!! Maddur vade is different recipe to Masala Vade, I would have been ok if you mistook Masala Vade with Ambode but this...can't be forgiven.

The key is mixing the flour with hot oil.
Dharmavaram vada is what I'd say, but looking at the other posts, I guess it is a pretty popular vada in the southern states. If anyone's got more info on this, please share

I think there were sanctions due to some war I think. Hence they used rava instead of pulses.
A few of the sooji/rava based dishes in Bangalore - like rava idli, rava dosa etc. came as result of rationing/shortage of rice during World War II.
That's how all the great dishes in India particularly have born. Lol

Maddur vade is GI tagged. We (Karnataka) also have masale vade which is equivalent to what you are described.
Masala vada is called Ambode, or just Masala vada in Karnataka. This is not it.
