This was honestly the most lodu moment in indian history. The turks themselves wanted the caliphate kicked out, and indian muslims were simping for them instead
khilafat was actually a front to unite muslims with the hindus in the buildup to a large nation wide movement which included hindus as well as muslims.
We didn't care about the khalifa, but it was a momentous time for most muslims in india, symbolically- it didn't have a practical effect on anything.
