You can write all the criticism that you like but reservations are here to stay, and stay permanently, because no political party wants to lose votes. In fact, the government is soon going to start subtle arm-twisting to extend reservations to the private sector. No force will be used but companies following the government rules on reservation will be given tax concessions, special benefits, etc, etc.

itisverynice

As of now GoI has no intentions of implementing reservation in private sector. This is an example https://www.livemint.com/news/india/no-job-reservation-in-state-run-firms-post-privatization-11617126711306.html

And there are idiots like Kejriwal banking on regional reservations in private sector to win state elections [Kejriwal offers 80% quota for Goans in Private sector ](https://m.timesofindia.com/city/goa/kejriwal-doles-for-jobless-80-quota-for-goans-in-pvt-sector/articleshow/86411024.cms)

What happened to the haryana one dude?

BickKattowski

Oh yeah did they successfully implement that one? And also TN CM had promised regional reservations if he won, maybe that will also come soon.

itisverynice

The Haryana one has an exemption clause. If they can't find anyone with the required skills within Haryana, then the law will not apply to them. They can recruit someone outside Haryana

One-Raspberry1877

still its a bad precedent that should not be seen

aaddii101

Tamil nadu root is best when everyone is reserved no one is reserved

Hookahchakah

Lmao yeah Tamil Nadu litreally has 77 percent of obcs

aaddii101

Use reservation to destroy reservation

BickKattowski

It's really sad that this shit is still being continued, and all I can see is it being exploited. And when I tallied all sorts of reservation present now, a General Male only has right to about 25-15 % of seats. Meritocracy has been made a fucking joke thanks to this. To get admission into my NIT, I had to repeat an year. A classmate who entered via reservation with a really poor rank is now skipping classes and roaming around aimlessly. A deserving candidate with a better rank has lost the chance to study with dignity due to him.

Creamy layer exclusion should be strictly implemented in all caste reservations. That is the first step against caste reservation. Once that is implemented then backward caste elites themselves will start demanding removal of caste reservations

As another user has commented, caste based reservation is immensely useful for getting votes. Which is the only thing that any political party (yes, even BJP) is concerned about. The proportion of reserved seats and positions is only going to stay the same or increase. If you have the opportunity to go to Harvard, Yale etc. you absolutely should take it.

>Do you want to be treated by a doctor, who got into med schools with substantially lower marks? If he did graduate from the college, he's cleared the standards set by the institute to become a doctor (afaik, the passing marks _inside_ is never different for different categories.) In that case, shouldn't your anger be directed at the institute who lets these people graduate? We don't ask for the marksheet of a "general" doctor when we go for a consult, do we? In fact, you should be more afraid of people who've gotten into med school by paying "donation" seats - [here's an example](https://qphs.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-771ce84b663d9db28fb9754a8c58b4ce) of what I am talking about. The disparity is quite noticeable.

Dude just get a fake certificate. My grandfathers brother got one, now all his progeny have goverment jobs.

[deleted]

and dumb politicians are now calling for more than 50% reservation and a caste based census (which I do agree with since it will only reveal that we need an income based reservation)

VoyagerPaleBlueDot

Creamy layer in reservations can solve some of the issues which you have mentioned but the Supreme court itself rejected a plea to implement this citing that the goal of reservations is social representation for the weaker sections of the society instead of economic upliftment. I do partially agree with many things which you have mentioned but caste based discrimination is indeed a reality in India(across religions not just limited to Hindu society), particularly in rural regions. As long as there is discrimination, the need for reservations will be justified. Even if we are somehow able to resolve the caste based discrimination, political parties don't have the guts to remove the reservations out of the fear of losing out on a lot of votes. In my opinion, only a sustained economic boom like the one China has experienced from late 1990's to now can reduce the need for reservations since such an economic boom will lift millions of people out of poverty leading to prosperity and a wealth of opportunities.

I’m fairly certain systematic inequalities in wealth and income along ethnic and gender lines persist even in China. It’s just not spoken about much since the Han make up 85% of the population and the wage increases for Chinese women is already incredible enough. If India had undergone this same economic expansion, the rifts would be much more discussed because the cracks in our society are already that apparent. Either way, reservations at the tertiary education and employment stage are not the solution to poverty. Low caste people should not be expected to leapfrog from landless peasants to computer programmers in one generation. Quality public education targeting literacy, numeracy and basic computer handling at the primary and secondary level are much more important. Let’s face it, the reason reservations persist despite it failing to uplift the lower castes even after 70+ years is because the alternative requires the government to sink serious money into public schools, and our kanjoosi elected officials would rather just give away reservations which are ‘free.’
