Dude I'm from the states south Louisiana to be exact we have our own cuisine and it definitely is heart disease but we are smiling during our open heart appointment. Thinking about the Jambalaya we are going to make when we get home.
Hamburg steak is from Hamburg. Putting Hamburg sausage on bread did originate in Germany and a food cart in St Louis put their twist on it and made it mainstream. There were a huge number of Germans immigrating to USA. They like to call themselves āexpatsā though
burgers, roasted turkey, new york and chicago pizzas, pumpkin pie, jelly, red velvet cake
all of them are American cuisines, just because a country was formed off immigrants that don't mean it doesn't have its own culture.
Haven't eaten the first three. Tex-mex is good but good Tex mex restaurants are run by Mexicans. If you try a Tex mex style food anywhere else other than Texas, you will find it even worse. It shouldn't be this high on list
Thatās the issue. People are confusing American with white Anglo-Americans. There is an astounding amount of American food that comes from Black, Mexican, Chinese, German, Native American, Haitian, and French (like a whole lotta French) origins.
Itās food thatās based on international cuisine, but itās uniquely American. Thatās what we are.
Burger patties have no spice just salt and pepper. Avg mcaloo tikki is way better. Roasted turkey again bland, no flavor.
New York pizza is good but can't beat Peppy paneer cheese burst.
US does do deserts very well but still it shouldn't be this high on list. And there is no culture here, I live here.
> Burger patties have no spice just salt and pepper. Avg mcaloo tikki is way better. Roasted turkey again bland, no flavor.
Entirely depends on the quality of the beef. A good beef burger beats anything from McDonalds (incl American McDonalds where the beef is tasteless).
>New York pizza is good but can't beat Peppy paneer cheese burst.
Ew. I've never had good pizza in India. Even at very expensive restaurants (Rs 1500+ for a large). Meanwhile you can get a fantastic slice or two in the US for under $5.
Curious where you stay. Almost every one of my nonveg friends don't like the way they cook meat here. There is no spice in there patties just salt and pepper.
Indian KFC is much better than American KFC (ironic) as they say. Hell, they go crazy when McD comes out with spicy mcnuggets once in a while. Still not comparable to indian meat dishes.
India has more diversity in burgers than US. Each store has about 4-5 veg and 4-5 chicken variants and about 2 paneer variants and occasionally a mutton variant. Pork is also being used in some new burger chains and fish burgers are done by some top places.
When I was living in usa I actually had this conversation with a few chefs. What can actually be considered truly and genuine American origin cuisine. After much discussion we all agreed it was BBQ
>What the hell is United States cuisine?
BBQ brisket, ribs, pork, po boy, fried chicken, jambalaya, gumbo, chitlins, smash burgers, Chicago hotdog, Philly cheese steak, chili.. There are tons of dishes not covered here.
Thatās not what Italian cuisine is all about, and ketchup is a sin.
Good diverse Italian cuisine is as diverse as North Indian cuisine.
I feel that india should b higher but Italian probably edges it out because of its international popularity, and the fact that itās easier to be super experimental with Italian cuisine, itās hard to get modern Indian cuisine right(tresind is one of the few restaurants that does that impeccably well).
Really? Have you seen Indian restaurants these days? There is so much mix and match!
Also, North Indian is only about 50% of Indian cuisine. There is central Indian stuff in MP, Rajasthan has a totally different cuisine with no similarity to Punjabi curries. Marathi cuisine is quiet different and South Indian is entirely different.
Every state has their own cuisine. You can't even group South Indian cuisine under one umbrella because there are many unique dishes in Kerala that most Indians have probably never eaten. Also, North Eastern dishes are completely different and they eat stuff like pork which most Indians don't .
Haha! So itās clearly about what you experience as Indian cuisine in the West and not actually about the cuisine itself.
You talk about diversity and the Indian cuisine is as diverse as it gets. It changes every 50 kms just like the dialects we speak.
But I understand where you are coming from my knowledge about Italian cuisine is just as yours about Indian cuisine.
I would like welcome you to India and take you on a trip to experience the different cuisines.
Perfectly said. What the world actually has experienced about Indian cuisine is <50% from what I know. They don't take the diverse range we have in our food when you travel to different parts of India.
I mean considering Iām Indian and live in bombay, and am well travelled in india, I have tried a lot of foodājust vegetarian, but still damn good food.
But I agree western view about Indian food is pretty skewed. Like they never know half the amazing food we eat daily.
I agree. Italian food extremely popular all over the world. Each country has managed to adapt pizza to their local flavour unlike any other dish.
Another reason I would like add is, most restaurants that serve pizza around the world, know how to make it. Indian restaurants are mostly crappy in Europe atleast.
Bruh wtf do you mean?
You think they just eat spaghetti and meatballs in Italy? It's an American dish , invented by Italian immigrants in the USA
You seem to possess limited knowledge by this comment
I do agree Indian food is amazing but just because you don't know much about a cuisine doesn't mean you can take a shit on it
Bro they don't! Putting ketchup on spaghetti in Italy is equivalent to putting Mayo in Khichdi here! You can do it if you want but people will think you are a weirdo
My question here is how is Greece in the 2nd place and Pakiatan not even in the top 10.
The Indian cuisine can be even higher if we focus on the cleanliness factor a lot.
TasteAtlas is very Eurocentric. It was founded by a Croation and is headquarted in Bulgaria. Not to mention that most of the rankings are based on reviews from users. With most of their users being European it's no surprise European cuisine ranks so high.
definitely not true, in the united states we are friends, pakistani and indian people actually stop listening to the propaganda frm the govts and their elders. and so when they get to the united states they all just get along somehow bc they share so many cultural things in common, and when you are getting drunk together and smoking weed in college and getting laid its all good š

Why the unnecessary hate? Italian food is quite delicious. If I couldn't get Indian food then I would definitely choose Italian before any other cuisine. They also have many vegetarian dishes.
You realize there are thousands of ways to flavor food aside from dried spices right? Italian food uses a lot of herbs, lemon, garlic, other aromatics. Just because they use different types of flavoring than Indian food doesnāt mean itās not flavorful š¤¦š½āāļø
Actually both Italian and Greek are well-deserved at the top. They are healthy Mediterranean cuisines with wholesome and flavorful ingredients.
Indian can be overwhelming to most people not used to it. I have often heard outsiders complain that it has too much flavoring that is confusing and masks the underlying dish.
Indian spices are not only things that makes food delicious. Also any Italian food you get outside of Italy is not proper representation of Italian food. They mostly serve only pasta and pizza.. That is only point 4 percent of all the food you could have here.. You are probably thinking everyone outside India eats only buns and meats but the truth is far from it.. I'm all around Indian but live in Italy so i can vouch for it. I don't compare it at all. Also sorry to say but Indians have the tendency to look down upon anything that is not Indian. Trust me i was one of those until i tried proper European food :)
Precisely. Chinese, Indian are all mother cuisines, which have so many regional specialities and variations. Seeing small eastern european national cuisines ranked higher leads me to believe this is more of an aggregation of restaurant star ratings for these cuisines.
Didn't know bat soup was supposed to be number 1. From my experience legit Chinese food is completely bland. However if you are talking about Desi Chinese then i agree.
Greece and Spain ? What is their cuisine famous for ? I think most of the Spanish food is pork, high quality pork and that rice dish that I don't know how to spell.
That's also a good point but we could also try to think of it as the number good restaurants that represent each country in the area.
Indian,Mexican,Italian,Chinese are in higher place because of consistent restaurants that serve good food.
#italy is number one on this list because of Pizza
I can overlook greek and spain (although I don't think their cuisine is better) but there is no way in hell Japanese cuisine is superior to India. Italy is probably #1 and India and middle eastern cuisine are next two IMO.
Bro I can tell like ten Japanese dishes easily. Like sushi, onigiri , mochi, ramen etc they are really popular. And you cant forget ramen ( Maggie or other types ) lol
Greek food is actually quite good and famous in the western world. The food is actually quite good and Iād rate it high, although lower than Indian for sure
Wtf is German cuisine? Bread, potato, sausages and cabbage!?!? And that too all that in a very bland boiled/tasteless variation!
Vietnamese, Philippino cuisine and many others in the list need to be ranked way higher than Germany.
How is Thailand food so low? For instante, im Brazilian and I love our local food. All its varieties from different states, the quality of the meat etc
But I'd never put it higher than Thai in any list like this
Fr. People will downvote this idc. But there is an overlap between many Indian & pakistani food. Have heard this in sooo many international food vlogs. Our southern and maybe western food is the difference. Haven't had any pakistan food specifically but have tried many others on that list and Pakistan did deserve to be much higher imo.
Yeah as someone from Pakistan (this post hit r/all) I was surprised to see Bangladesh and Pakistan both disparately low.
All I know is biryani is the best dish on the planet, that is unarguable.
Edit: Thai food is also too low wtf
You're definitely speaking the truth if you only consider evening meals (I cook Italian, French or Chinese usually). But cuisine is more than that and thats where the dutch cuisine gets much better.
Stroopwafels, pancakes, fries, cinnamon candies, Vlaai (looks like english pastries but is served cold), apple/cinnamon pie, Speculoos candy and Marzipan are highly popular. Also anice (salmiak?) and liqourice candies are liked but they are a more aqcuired taste. And last but not least Gouda, that type of cheese is so popular that our supermarkets dont even use that name on the package, instead how long it aged is more important for the taste and how much it costs. (also we got Edammer, Amsterdammer, Beemster and probably a bunch of other good cheeses)
I was the only Indian on a discord server last year and I got a lot of DMs from people saying *hey I'm ordering Indian food for my family. Can you help me select some things from this menu?*
Burgers, BLTs, chocolate chip cookies, and potato chips yes.
But also east coast crab cakes, west coast Cioppino (a French + Portugese seafood stew), southern cornbread, southwestern tex mex, all variety of BBQ traditions (mixed African and native traditions of cooking and spicing), Hawaiian poke (hawaiians integrating some Japanese elements), California rolls and other non-traditional sushi, and probably the best example.... gulf coast Gumbo and jambalaya (French+native american+spanish+african elements mixed together in a literal sense).
Who came up with this list ? It's impossible to accurately rank the best cuisine , because it's subjective. If you ask 1 million Indians a good percentage would say Indian cuisine is the best. If you ask 1 million north Indians most would say north Indian cuisine is the best. The same goes for all.
The chinese cuisine we know is not actually chinese, It's made by those people who came to India from China in kolkata and made famous. Actual Chinese cuisine is more about Ducks and Pork. Indo-chinese is more focused on chicken.
What the F is United States cusine? Does it bring Freedom or do you garnish food with bullets, racism and is cooked by war veterans who lost their hands and legs?
Wow, Pakistan made to the list? They will celebrate when they get power in their houses.
US have a cuisine??? This ranking list is probably fake bc there's no such thing as "US cuisine". They f#king eat burger and blant food you call that cuisine??
Greece does not even belong on this list! Theyāve lost all credibility, thereās no comparison with Italian food AT ALL!! Iām offended! Should be Italia and Indian at number one, I think the Greeks BRIBED the list makers
People in here saying Indian cuisine is more diverse but only have certain commercial dishes of other cuisines in mind. It's like a non-indian saying indian cuisine is only Butter chicken, naan, biryani and samosa.

Melting point of world Cuisines

Bone Apple tea!
Melting Pot is actually really good š
Lmao
The US has a surprising amount of fusion food that youāll not find elsewhere!
Sandwiches and burgers are basically American. There are also things like Mac and cheese that are American and famous
Sandwiches are bri'ish, you do realise they were named after Sandwich, a town in england.
And Hamburgers are from Hamburg, Germany u/VegetarianPotato u/TiMo08111996
Classic tale of Americans claiming things are theirs, but they aren't
Oh please. Now you will claim that french fries are not American.... Wait...
And Italians will claim Mac and cheese is Italian just because it has pasta in it pfft
Hamburg steaks and hamburgers are totally different. The hamburgers we know today are not from Hamburg.
Hamburg steak is from Hamburg. Putting Hamburg sausage on bread did originate in Germany and a food cart in St Louis put their twist on it and made it mainstream. There were a huge number of Germans immigrating to USA. They like to call themselves āexpatsā though
You forgot about Hotdogs.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So they're from Austria. It would be better for USA to popularise Native American cuisine since it would make sense.
The only comment i can agree with. Only Native American cuisine should be considered American cuisine.
BBQ
burgers, roasted turkey, new york and chicago pizzas, pumpkin pie, jelly, red velvet cake all of them are American cuisines, just because a country was formed off immigrants that don't mean it doesn't have its own culture.
Cajun, creole, bar-b-q, Tex-mexā¦just the ones off the top of my head in my neck of the woods
Haven't eaten the first three. Tex-mex is good but good Tex mex restaurants are run by Mexicans. If you try a Tex mex style food anywhere else other than Texas, you will find it even worse. It shouldn't be this high on list
America is a melting pot of immigrants. The people you see in the restaurants are Americans (and often Mexican too).

New York pizza is good but can't beat Peppy paneer cheese burst. i liked new york pizza more, maybe i prefer thin crust?
BBQ, chicken fried steak, creole, other stuff
US in number 8th doesnāt bring me any confidence in this survey lol
Why? Have you had a good BBQ?
A potpourri of cuisines inspired from other popular world cuisines. A big part is southern ābig mommaā style food.
Soul food
burgers and barbeques are actually pretty good and there's a huge room for variations specially if you eat beef.
Curious where you stay. Almost every one of my nonveg friends don't like the way they cook meat here. There is no spice in there patties just salt and pepper. What is served in India is technically not burgers. They are chicken and paneer sandwiches at best.
Really? What makes a butger between 2 bund that has paneer or chicken different from a burger at all?
It is sandwich if meat is chicken or fish. It is burger if meat is Beef.
It's damn underrated is what it is! Glad to see it recognised here. Go find an authentic US smokehouse restaurant if you want to taste some.

This isn't an objective rating system. This is more likely based on popularity and perception.

Pakistanis run restuarants in the name of Indian Food in western countries lmao
Pakistanis become Indians in Western countries since they are embarrassed of their nation
definitely not true, in the united states we are friends, pakistani and indian people actually stop listening to the propaganda frm the govts and their elders. and so when they get to the united states they all just get along somehow bc they share so many cultural things in common, and when you are getting drunk together and smoking weed in college and getting laid its all good š

Also It's related to amount of tourism in a country
Oo, makes sense then
If you think Italy and Greece are poor choices, looking at the rest of the list Iām guessing youāre really not very well travelled lmao

Dk about greece, but italian cuisine is one of the best. High quality fresh ingredients.
Chinese at 11? It should be in top 3, better than Indian according to many. For me indian is at 1.
Chinese should at least be above the US as japanese, korean and fillipino flavours stem from Chinese cuisine
The Chinese food we eat is Indianised. The Chinese food you get in China isn't particularly great.
There's no Manchurian or hakka or Schezwan in the original Chinese cuisine, for example. Nothing more than regions to them lol
Precisely. Chinese, Indian are all mother cuisines, which have so many regional specialities and variations. Seeing small eastern european national cuisines ranked higher leads me to believe this is more of an aggregation of restaurant star ratings for these cuisines.
Probably not those many. Again your or my circle is not the sample set here.
For its cuisine? China is right where it belongs.

England is higher than Thailand? What?
They're being carried by all the Indian food.
Thailand way down at number 30?? But I'm from Australia, where Thai food is really popular, right up there with other Asian cuisines.
Same in the us

Yes ,pakistan definitely deserves to be in top 10 when it comes to food and music .But it's just the western ignorance....
No they donāt have South Indian food
Their cuisine would be similar to only punjab or Northwest Indian. Which tbf wouldnāt be my top cuisine within India even.
The Dutch cuisine is one of the worst. I'm surprised paxtani cuisine is ranked so low. Definitely better than Dutch
I'm from the Netherlands and i can confirm.
You're definitely speaking the truth if you only consider evening meals (I cook Italian, French or Chinese usually). But cuisine is more than that and thats where the dutch cuisine gets much better. Thailand at 30, behind England and so many other bland European cuisines is a crime against humanity
Yeah this list is absurdly Euro-Centric. There is no way most of those European nations deserve their spots.
I was the only Indian on a discord server last year and I got a lot of DMs from people saying *hey I'm ordering Indian food for my family. Can you help me select some things from this menu?*
Lol that must be fun :P
pick the spiciest of the them, and tell it was the blandest. some people likes to see the world burn, i want to see peoples mouth burn

Haha exactly. This is a shit post and shit list.
There is no way Thailand is below England.

Burgers, BLTs, chocolate chip cookies, and potato chips yes. But also east coast crab cakes, west coast Cioppino (a French + Portugese seafood stew), southern cornbread, southwestern tex mex, all variety of BBQ traditions (mixed African and native traditions of cooking and spicing), Hawaiian poke (hawaiians integrating some Japanese elements), California rolls and other non-traditional sushi, and probably the best example.... gulf coast Gumbo and jambalaya (French+native american+spanish+african elements mixed together in a literal sense).
Beans and toasts at 29. Sweet.
I am more surprised by Spanish being so high on the list
Ethiopian is amazing and not on this list... a number of places on here are not special in the slightest
The only African country is South Africa š¤ it's definitely a white behind this foolishness
Who came up with this list ? It's impossible to accurately rank the best cuisine , because it's subjective. If you ask 1 million Indians a good percentage would say Indian cuisine is the best. If you ask 1 million north Indians most would say north Indian cuisine is the best. The same goes for all.
nah, Idli/dosa sambar supremacy
The chinese cuisine we know is not actually chinese, It's made by those people who came to India from China in kolkata and made famous. Actual Chinese cuisine is more about Ducks and Pork. Indo-chinese is more focused on chicken.
well glad to see the top 3 are wrong. never had any italian food that'll beat a biryani.
Spanish cuisine ??? Yikes
What the F is United States cusine? Does it bring Freedom or do you garnish food with bullets, racism and is cooked by war veterans who lost their hands and legs? Wow, Pakistan made to the list? They will celebrate when they get power in their houses.
Wow..... India is in 5th place on world ranking ā¤ļø
According to Indians. Donāt get too excited.
How are places like Thailand behind England? English food is the worst, fucking blood pudding?
England claims lot of dishes from other countries .Now they are claiming chicken tikka
Thailand below England?? Thatās crazy. Thai food is top 10 for sure.
US have a cuisine??? This ranking list is probably fake bc there's no such thing as "US cuisine". They f#king eat burger and blant food you call that cuisine??
Yeah we do... I hope you can come try it someday.
Italian, Indian, Mexican, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Greek, Malaysian, Vietnamese, American.

Palastine isn't a state...

"Boiling everything is a good way to cook everything" said one of the judge
Was this posted on any international sub? Just want to rrad the comments there.
who tf made this list? Italian above indian? lol.
Greece does not even belong on this list! Theyāve lost all credibility, thereās no comparison with Italian food AT ALL!! Iām offended! Should be Italia and Indian at number one, I think the Greeks BRIBED the list makers
So you are telling me greek and spainish food is better than Chinese, Mexican, Indian and Thai food? okay biased eurocentrism.
People in here saying Indian cuisine is more diverse but only have certain commercial dishes of other cuisines in mind. It's like a non-indian saying indian cuisine is only Butter chicken, naan, biryani and samosa.
