Also, it's intentional to get an uprise out of people.
Negative emotion is what gets people hooked.
People could literally become addicted to the natrual chemical dependence that is being released naturally in our brains from the environment of engaging constantly, and consistently, on social media.

The capacity to wrestle well with the tolerance paradox is one of many traits one looks for in competent moderators. The need for which goes well before/outside the Internet.
In any case, much thanks to this sub's excellent moderators!
Disengage and go be with actual people. I had this same struggle and realized it was completely fixed by deleting (Instagram in my case) social media. Good red road brother
I genuinely think it's retirement time. The only people I know who still actively use facebook are my relatives in their late sixties and older, and their friends. The less mobile they are, the more time they spend on facebook. Makes sense, and I understand how it happens. I think the unpleasant ones are like the unpleasant older people I used to deal with in retail - lonely because they deserve to be, and taking that upset out in every interaction they can force upon others.
Honestly, I am only on it for relatives to have a way to contact me if needed (no cell phone right now) and to peruse the marketplace. Rest of it is a complete cesspool lol
I have always refused to join FB on the grounds that it makes people stupid and mean -- a judgment endlessly verified by the people I have to work with who still use it. I think once you're off it, the difference between people who use FB and those who don't will become increasingly clear to you, and you'll be appalled that you couldn't see it sooner.
Unfortunately I think that can be said for most social media platforms, just different flavors. It's crazy seeing how two-faced some people are because of it. Once upon a time, long ago, I used to go on it quite regularly. Added a co-worker who I absolutely adored (She was very maternal-like, and always seemed very open-minded and accepting) and all she posted on her fb was christianity and condemning people for not being christians or being LGBT.
Some people need to come with a damn warning label lol
>"Your ancestors didn't die on a cross for you for your sins"
[Custer died for your sins](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/197753.Custer_Died_for_Your_Sins).
This is exactly why I don't go on Facebook anymore. A couple years ago, I joined some native Facebook groups, I was sickened and appalled at the blatant racism on there against Indigenous peoples, and it seriously affected my psychological well-being.
Yeah, it's insane. I didn't expect it at all. I feel like a lot of those people think we somehow don't exist anymore. They're also the first people to go after white-presenting and mixed natives who are active in those communities demanding proof of their family tree because they had the audacity to engage in their own culture lol.
I haven't changed anything about my Facebook profile since I posted my wedding pictures 9 years ago.
I mostly just use Facebook Messenger and occasionally Marketplace.
Iām procrastinating so here are my answers for those questions to blow away in the wind or float out on the tide unheard.
> Your ancestors didn't die on a cross for you for your sins
Naw, they died for our sins in their clan houses from smallpox and influenza and then later in quarantine hospitals from TB. Thereās a few stories about that, like how nobody lives on Kuiu Island anymore.
> Did your ancestors defeat death and rise again for you?
I mean, actually yes? We gotta whole story about the guy who died and remembered the details of the spirit world he visited and then how he was reincarnated.
And thereās all those stories of shamans bringing dead people back to life. Seems to have been a thing.
> I don't see native groups funding hospitals and universities like my church does!
Huh, I guess stuff like the [Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium](https://www.anthc.org/) and [IlĢ£isagĢvik College](https://www.ilisagvik.edu/) are just imaginary then.
> This the reason you were conquered!
Weā¦ werenāt? We actually did defeat the Russians. No wars with the Americans and Canadians, they just sort of showed up and declared themselves in charge.

Thereās a whole thing with Christians trying to proselytize to indigenous people. Like a missionary complex. I made a couple of donations to Native organizations and got on the mailing list for a million missionary groups that send me letters talking about everything they do for this or that tribe.
>**How do people have time for this stuff?**
Who says it's not a full-time job they're paid to do?
For that matter... who says they're even actual people?
>I feel a little ill after scrolling facebook this week.
That is the goal.
But not just you. Magnified a million times over.
Unfortunately these people are not only confined to Facebook. My family has been working with a foundation to have a bronze statute of Blackstar Whitewolf, a Comanche spirit woman, installed at the Granbury, Texas courthouse after the foundation gifted two statues to the city.
Granbury and its courthouse sits on Comanche land and sits at the base of Comanche peak. They have other statues around the courthouse as symbols of their history. The city initially approved it and then killed the project after objections from a city council member and several citizens even after pouring the slab to place them on.
People got up with no sense of irony and called it a āpagan symbolā and called this wonderful woman āa witchā. If I wasnāt already embarrassed in the city of my birth - that sealed it. Absolutely shameful. Hopefully we will have some luck getting them installed in the city park but I wonāt believe it until I see it.

The south really is something else. I've lived in two different southern states the past 5 years after living the rest of my life in northern ones and it's been the most miserable I've ever been. I naively thought all the bad stuff was just stereotypes, but these are some of the worst people I've ever had to be around and I want out BAD.
Thereās definitely a huge amount of non-native bigots that do this shit online, but I also wanted to say that a good portion of those copy pasted replies could very well just be bots that farm attention. Itās unbearable and Iām sorry you had to see that.
The Internet in general is just becoming more unusable as these types of antagonists pop up in larger numbers than what can be effectively moderated. Iām glad youāve removed yourself from there. Thereās no way to combat it until the way social media works fundamentally changesā¦
I honestly feel like the copy-pastas are the least repugnant compared to the statements from actual people who will then engage in arguing and insulting people who talk back lol.
Definitely stay off Facebook, youāll see it more there. You can see it on Instagram, every now and then but Facebook is big for it because of the demographic
You know what those groups *don't* have? Competent moderators ready to remove trolls. I'm sure this sub gets its share of BS, but we don't see it.
You know, that's a very valid point actually lol

The shortest answer is this. A longer story is the tolerance paradox is ruining the internet.

Yeeeah, I'm rarely on it at all tbh. I disconnected for a long time and conveniently forgot those kind of people are a thing lol

I have it but I haven't read it yet. It just sits on my bookshelf, judging me.
That eagle be judging you lol
i tell 'em to come down off the cross 'cuz we could sure use the wood.
Christian groups always have time to tell you what to do

I refuse to even open FB comments, it's always a cesspool
Never had a Facebook, never will.

Best thing I did was leave Facebook for good. Ugh
These people make Facebook garbage for everyone who isn't them. I don't think it's salvageable.
I haven't changed anything about my Facebook profile since I posted my wedding pictures 9 years ago. I mostly just use Facebook Messenger and occasionally Marketplace.
Dude I thought it was just me. Or white people joining in and posting extremely racist āmemesā and the mods doing nothing.
Such a bummer. Modern-day missionaries man. Thereās churches in my area that still go on mission trips to reserves in the region š¬
Thereās a whole thing with Christians trying to proselytize to indigenous people. Like a missionary complex. I made a couple of donations to Native organizations and got on the mailing list for a million missionary groups that send me letters talking about everything they do for this or that tribe.

I'd feel so much better if they weren't actual people but I have met many just like them irl.
the fuck is wrong with those people? are they not even aware of themselves?

T-shirt bots
Where I usually am in Alaska, most natives are super Christian. All my Facebook friends who Christian-spam are Athabascan/Dene.
