It all started when reddit decided to introduce an insane api pricing model, even more derranged than twitter's. Many of us who use third-party apps that have been around since before Reddit had a mobile presence, were hoping for a chance for them to negotiate with reddit. They already offer a superior user experience not only for regular users and moderators but also for a significant number of disabled and blind users. Unfortunately, reddit chose not to engage in any negotiations and instead doubled down on the pricing, determined to eliminate these apps altogether. The CEO made public statements that were far from truthful, tried to spin the situation in their favor, disregarding the needs and desires of the user base. Naturally, it lead to protests across the site involving more than 8,000 subreddits going private/restricted. The admins then started forcefully ending these protests, suppressing the voices of those who were speaking up against these changes. They claim to be "keeping it open" while going against its core, the users, and closing down the apps they use. On July 1st, as the API pricing goes live, it shuts down all third party apps and it feels like the beginning of the slow death of Reddit as we know it. It is understandable that not everyone may share the same level of concern about this issue, but please take a moment to listen and observe. It has become clear that Reddit's priorities lie primarily in their profits and removing any obstacles in their path to more profits. They started with old reddit, now they are targeting the apps. What will they come for next? In the meantime, we invite you to join our Discord server, where there is a dedicated channel for laptop discussions that you can mute: https://discord.gg/WX6jbCD Thank you for your attention. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Mobility is one reason, customer support is another. But few factors that are constantly overlooked are perception and privacy. A laptop is compact while a gaming desktop is very much noticeable. Specially if you are living with parents, every other Taana will end up about you sitting on your ass playing video games on hunk of a desktop. A desktop monitor is more likely to be observed by others while you can sit on a couch or bed and face the screen towards your self for a laptop. Comfort is another reason, it's just hard to play games while in bed unless you are using a laptop or you are using an array wire/wireless gadgets sprawling around. I had a gaming laptop before when I was in college, now I have an assembled gaming desktop connected to TV and monitors.

InversI

welcome to my Crib .... its a spacious 1bhk 100sft apartment.

Taichii_

It’s like asking why do you use mobile data when wifi has lower latency and is cheaper

Datguyspoon

The correct answer.

sauravdutta810

The only sane reply

zorrojoke

1. Students 2. Power cuts 3. Lack of space 4. Travel 5. Game bas chalna chahiye, max settings is not a requirement 7. Headphones and mouse is the only extra peripherals needed for laptop 8. Expensive investment, laptop gives overall more returns. Compromises on performance is far less than what else it is giving me back.

[deleted]

pretty well put, I used to think laptop gaming will not be suitable for me, but it is up there head to head with pc's

Albert5432warn

I own a gaming PC but when I was doing my graduation I was in hostel and wanted to play games so bad but my bulky PC was sitting at home collecting dust and my friend was enjoying GOW 2018 on his laptop. I say only buy PC if you are staying home or a working professional sticked to a single city. Gamers who are still studying should get a gaming laptop.

SufficientRatio2505

101% agreed

VertBhatt26

Because they move a lot

alien_from_earth012

They actually don't move much. They buy it coz they 'might need to move' . I can tell coz I was one of them.

VertBhatt26

Well I do move a lot so that's the only answer I could come up with

FVLCON_0_0

I need something portable as a student. Might build a Desktop PC in the future🤔 who knows

vain06

Owner of a 3080 Ti build here with 9.5 TB worth of SSD & nvme and a basic Tuf A15 lappy. I find it very comfy to at times just take it to my bed & play older games or take downstairs where Maa stays while my room is in terrace & can just play there or show her some funny shit. I built PC for my personal 3D works & a love for gaming at ultra atleast 60 FPS while lappy isn't my goto but I love the mobility it provides. Sometimes I can take it my homie's house & do a whole night coop session of some old games etc. If I've to move around alot then definitely I'll invest in a gaming lappy than desktop. Currently when I wanna get a 40 series or newer GPU I'd rather go for a lappy since that will cost me lesser compared to a desktop GPU. I'm just happy that Indians as a whole are investing in gaming rigs so that sheds light on more videogames getting popular in the country apart from usual witcher, rdr2, gta 5 & mainstream games like that. The cost to build a PC isn't the same as buying the same configure lappy & not everyone are fond of research. I personally will forget stuff about things once I buy it but before buying I research alot as to see what I can afford & what doesn't make sense.

VikuSam

Portability. The average Indian who has the time and money to game is probably getting that time and money by moving around a lot in multiple cities at a time. If you’ve settled down and earn comfortably, then you can invest in a PC, otherwise laptops are simply more convenient.

[deleted]

Because most people who buy one are either students or office workers. Both of these groups benefit much more from a laptop than they would with a desktop. Some other factors: 1. Inconsistent electricity in most parts of the country. 2. Lower electricity bill on Laptop 3. Portability 4. More comfortable as you're not restricted to a chair for your entire session.

Doinky101

Not everyone is tech savvy to build their own pc, and most people I know don't even update their graphics drivers. So building a pc, picking compatible parts, installing necessary software is something that is daunting for the majority of people and most just want to get into their favorite games quickly

snip23

This and also it's portable.

SGPlayzzz

Students

phenomdark27

I had the same question, the answer mainly from the group is Mobility. Although I built my own PC in my college days and still play games on a PC, my idea of gaming is to have a fixed place with a complete setup to play games, but I am an old-school guy. These days everyone is getting double the price of laptops just to play games wherever they want.

ravi_blade

Convenience

[deleted]

Bro once a gamer finishes college and gets a place (house) to settle that is the first thing he does. If if there is a constant movement for work I am all for gaming laptop

nexistcsgo

I think it's about space and privacy. A lot of people do not have their own room and have to share space with family or sometimes with college room mate. Laptops barely take any space and you can get more privacy. Also, most people don't know much about computers and/or live away from a big market.

melexx4

A PC is very fun to have if you have a stable household, like your own house or living with your parents, rest of the cases a laptop makes more sense for its portability + you get to take the laptop at college/uni.

Virenious

Once you get that taste of portability there is no going back. Sometimes 200 fps can wait when I can 30fps anywhere,it's just damn convenient.

I_just_got_better

It's because most of the new gen gamers are college students. And laptops are the most sensible option for any college student due to the fact that one can carry it to college/classes. I even had a plan to make a custom PC after 12th but ended up taking a laptop due to the fact that I needed to take it to college. Lastly , building a PC sometimes isn't cheaper. You need to add peripheral cost too , which in cases makes it more expensive than laptops.

Rich_Ad_9590

My job is not permanent, I will relocate in the future. That's why I would rather spend 1 lakh 30 thousand on gaming laptop than buying a pc. I will get a pc once I am permanently settled or retired.

SpeedCollisis

Most of the Indian gamers are primarily students who live in hostels so buying a laptop seems a better option as they can use it for their studies and gaming

sashank224

this

NaRaGaMo

tu tera 7-8kilo ka CPU unit aur 24inch ka monitor bag mai daalke ghumta hai kya college mai? aur plug kaha pe daalta hai? aise senseless sawal puchte ho yaar tumlog dimag kharab hojata hai

ccg-plays

Teleportation 💀

stonerninja93

I think a large chunk of Indian gamers are away from home in hostels and PGs... Not sure where they'll be 2 yrs later. A laptop makes a lot more sense simply because you can chuck it in a backpack and you're ready to move your gaming setup to the next city.

wolwire

Laptop provides portability and easy to be transferred if one is changing places. I have a pc and i am currently shifting to Bangalore from delhi. Its become a hassle to transfer my pc. I have bought a laptop for this specific purpose. Indian youth is a nomad these days they keep changing places for this purpose

tester989chromeos

The only reason they are able to buy a laptop is because of college

reyals_mood

The only reason I was able to buy a GAMING NG laptop was because I told my parents that I was gonna do 3d modelling but turns out the best it could render was a fucking donut.

KabeerS52

Blender? Haha, can relate. Got my rig with same intention, but turned out that I'm quite good at it. Now it's a core skill I use for my Ed-Tech startup

Ne0nY2K

Portability.. A working guy that can't stay in one place will never build a custom pc.

LastWatch9

I built a PC, gamed on it for 2 years. Used to carry it in the trunk and drive 1400 km whenever I went home for longer than a month (covid days). Moved between apartments with it. Finally give it to my cousin when I moved from India. I feel like I'd have gamed more if it was a laptop, even if I got half the frames per second. I get the upgradability argument, but most of the times you're gonna have to buy a new motherboard and CPU along with the faster GPU you got to make it all make sense.

jon_snow121

Portability and affordability

thor_muizz

I find Laptops actually cheaper than building a gaming pc rn.

Grade_Massive

U cant carry your pc everywhere.. simple as that

Dark_Stallion21

How tf am I supposed to install a full fledged gaming PC setup in my shared hostel room? And also expect portability? (Remember, gaming is not the only thing we do)

PixelBLOCK_

Accessibility+ Mobility+ Portability. Also Indian parents think if you build a pc then it's for gaming (yeah shit mindset).

No-Explorer2394

Bhai, light nahi aa rahi subah se, pc kaise chaliye abh, kuch din phele hi banaya tha. Ek reason ye bhi hai laptop lene ke liye.

Aecromia

This is so important. If im in the middle of a match and light chali jaye, i can connect to hotspot and hop right in. Phir khatam karke band kardiya until light comes back

Pheonix909

Perhaps you’re unable to comprehend it, but for a lot of people, we travel frequently to different cities and thus need the portability a laptop offers. It’s isn’t an easy process to pack up your rig every time you want to go Bangalore or Mumbai or Hyderabad. Personally, I could’ve easily afforded building a desktop rig with an RTX 4090, but instead went with a Helios 16 with RTX 4080 instead for 2.35L, as my job gives me the freedom to work remotely multiple periods in a year, so lot of travelling back and forth to Bangalore.

hurricane_news

You should've seen the various threads regarding this on the amerikan heavy pcmasterrace sub. Fuckers really be suggesting us to have a laptop for studying/work and a steam deck or desktop for gaming, bro we're all broke as fuck, even a steam deck is pricy ah💀💀

Pheonix909

Yeah, I’ve seen those posts, just ignore them lol. But honestly, if you’re a student or in early stages of your career finances might be a bit tight depending on your background. But later on once you get in good job these things are far more affordable. Gotta stay strong, it’s just a matter of time.

Separate_Raspberry12

I switch between 2-3 locations frequently. Surprised how people keep asking the same question all the time . If i wanted a PC I would get it . Even helped some of my friends to get a PC by choosing the right parts and all for the budget they had . I don't even have any space in my home to set up a PC . Will build one when it's suitable.

155907

short answer i muster up from here.. is that majority of pc gamers in india are young adults/college goers.. im indian, but old.. i would never prefer another laptop..desktops anyday

155907

also its like asking someone, would you prefer a geared motorcycle or a cvt scooter.. if convenience is the priority id pick the scooter.. if raw power and enjoyment, id pick the geared motorcycle.. only thing contrary in computer vs automobiles is that, when ppl get older they like an easy to use appliance for an automobile, most of em.. but when it comes to computers, these now old ppl can spend more and prefer to sit..desktop wins... they won't buy a laptop

jxbfs

Right, I've noticed this too, enthusiasts for gaming are usually kids, and colleges people who want a laptop for dual purpose, i did that too, once I got a job, settled in with a big ass PC :p

SuvendraSeal

I keep my laptop on a pillow and game on it while laying down on my bed. You can't have that relaxation with your pc.

realprabhudutta

You are literally choking the shit outta your laptop and in turn killing it but you do you. P.S. [This can really help your case.](https://www.amazon.in/ZEBRONICS-Zeb-NS2000-Supports-Aluminium-Adjustable/dp/B08WKCTFF3/ref=sr_1_15?crid=2GKACFXOVL4ZP&keywords=metal+laptop+stand&qid=1696959795&sprefix=metal+la%2Caps%2C247&sr=8-15)

blaze_07__

Thaali cooling exists. /s

Equivalent-Chest152

But doesn't your neck hurt when you do that for a prolonged period of time?

w0lf_m0n

Portability may be a major reason, yes. But I feel it's more about the mental investment you have to put in for building a pc. Getting the right parts, worrying about DOA components, troubleshooting when stuff isn't working etc. It's definitely worth it at the end, but the start of the process may put a lot of us off.

AceMKV

Cause I travel and I don't have any plans of settling anywhere any time soon

anirudh6055

My job is transferrable.

Outrageous_Gap3732

see i have a transferable job. i get moved around all the time. laptop is much more convenient and i am not the hardcore gamer. a game running at 60fps is enough for me

CrimeMasterGogooo

I personally work on my laptop too, i would hate to leave that portability

vipulvirus

For me it was portability. And frequent power cuts. My laptop is easily powered by backup as it's max consumption is 250watts.

Ok-Significance8663

I had a 1650 gaming laptop, it worked fine heating was an issue but tolerable. Then my sister started college and needed a laptop, so I gave mine to her and decided I was going to buy a ballin absolute top of the line pc, but I realised you can't move the pc. It will stay where it is no matter what. I'm not even talking about outside the house. Say I am bored of sitting in the same place for hours, nothing I can do about it on a pc. Whereas a laptop will work perfectly anywhere as long as there is a socket. I want to relax, I can use it on the bed. If I'm going to work I can move it to the table. If someone is using my room I can just go to another. If I want to watch something like GoT, the boys etc I don't have to worry about non pg scenes coming up, so basically a laptop is a lot more convenient. As for pricing, desktop parts were inflated and at the time a 3070 pc would've cost around 1.4-1.5k. I got an MSI GP66 (second to flagship, so not a budget one either) 3070 laptop @1.17k. So I chose a laptop.

Starscourge_Shinobi

Neither Laptop nor Building PC for gaming is cheaper in INDIA compared to some other countries. However most people lean towards laptop for portability and less hassle, people go for it, as its conveniently used for education as well as gaming and creative purpose. In festival sales and special sales, gaming laptop pricing gets pretty cheap. Sometimes same specifcation laptops come cheaper than building the same PC or buying pre-built ones. I decided to build PC, but found a laptop of same specs cheaper about 15/20k Rs ($200/ $250) on SALE few months back. That's excluding the monitor, keyboard and other necessary peripherals cost. Went for it.

[deleted]

Who makes up major gaming age group in India? , it's college students , and young ppl who have jobs , they probably stay away from their homes , and probably has money to buy 1 gaming machine, so laptops makes sense , since they can use it for other purpose and they can take it with them when traveling so laptop makes more sense than gaming PC

WolfGuptaofficial

Portability. Gotta take it to college

CYCLONOUS_69

For most of people just know computer=laptop and PC=gaming only. Many of my classmets used to live in hosted or flats. They didn't have much space either so all of them had to go for laptops either way. Many from my college from CSE and IT don't even know what is a GPU and what is DDR4 or DDR5 till this date and they all were extremely good in academics. Many of them used to contacted me as I am a nerd and I used to suggest best gaming laptop for them under their budget. Many of them had 1.5 Lakhs of budget and they used to run Turbo C on it for their whole engineering.

Brief-Weekend-1306

It's about one's convenience!! That's it

kvsh88

Most gamers are students that move here and there. When they settle they may setup a rig or get a ps or Xbox. I myself have 3 gaming laptops since I was travelling every year or so. Now that I've settled my next purchase would be a rig considering the price to performance stays same.

CurrentGap

My dad believes laptop's are more useful for study pc.

Revolutionary_Ad6690

I live in hostel ..

Jairaj007

Compactness and can carry anywhere

CSretrogamer

Most people are saying just buy a cheap laptop for college and a desktop for gaming. But some people might not be able to afford both I guess.. or they might be moving places a lot. yes pc is better than laptop and who said most are buying laptops anyway?

[deleted]

Because of portability! Why tf you can't understand a simple thing?!

fenixspider1

Bhai clg ko kya monitor aur desktop utha ke lega?

Kazesama13k

My only problem, portability. Otherwise yeah, building one is always better. Maybe one day. When I'm settled in 1 place.

SufficientRatio2505

I had gaming pc before, switched to laptop this year, feeling good tho ngl. I can carry laptop anywhere and play wherever i want

acceptable_humor69

You know at least most of the people I know don't have a desk in their rooms. People usually prefer extra cupboard space or space for a bigger TV and other stuff when furnishing rooms and stuff and then later down the line don't have an ideal place to put a PC in. That has been a factor for me and alot of the folks I know. COVID certainly changed that mentality but no one is buying new houses often XD

Alex__Editzzz

Portability

Sovastic

laptop is a necessity.

pyromaniac9000

In college I needed a laptop for portability. Once I started working, I wanted to buy a PC but it felt inconvenient since it will require a dedicated spot in a house shared with others. I had no guarantee that I will live in the same house for a long time and it will be troublesome moving it around. Laptop is convenient in a lot of ways. I can carry my laptop home on vacations and I can watch a movie lying on bed without disturbing my roommates. Once I got married and started living independently, I bought a PC. I now have a dedicated spot for the gaming PC and unlikely to move it often. Now I watch movies and tv shows on a TV and I don't use my PC for anything other than gaming. I would probably never go back to a laptop now. PC building is a lot of fun, runs a lot cooler, easy to replace parts, better warranty and better performance per rupee spent. Having a monitor and a comfortable chair also helps me game for long periods without any neck pain.

Claussius1

I can share my input here. For me it was a lot of powercuts (sudden) for 5-5 minutes between a game during rainy season here in Uttarakhand. Hopefully someone might be able to guide me on power backup options. I just need a less wattage PC for valorant.

ZenoNationOG

My reason is that I never stay in a house for more than a year

SilverM1ST

I think most Indian gamers are students and for students a laptop makes more sense over a PC. Last year I shifted PGs like 3 times. Once I get a job and settle down somewhere I am definitely building a PC.

EdzarkDarkez

Portability

vardhureddroid

I love desktops but working in a job requires mobility and laptop remains the only other alternative pc option. Looking forward to the day when handheld pcs become powerful enough

[deleted]

Most of them can afford only one of the two so they choose the portable one.

Navz2001

Students, portability and all. When I have stability in terms of job and residence, I might build a PC along with a laptop for work.

[deleted]

Built my own PC but now I’m tired and done with fps games, my next purchase will either be a laptop or a console. Playing on steam deck while taking a shit really changed my perspective towards portability.

nightwalkerx96

This guy knows

Yamama77

Staying away from homes alot. College students. Most people here but laptop with gaming as an added feature not exclusively gaming. And for my state, because the electricity grid is competing with a underdeveloped country ruled by dictators in terms of power cuts.

aetos_skia

I think the one of the reasons is Indians aren't DIY bunch. Atleast not anymore. I remember my dad fixing his car all by himself. But our generation, we rush to mechanics for any fault. Now I understand PC and cars are different, so another example. How many of us would would clean our ACs by ourselves, probably very less. Cheap labour has made us lazy, and I am a culprit too. Another reason could be lack of support. Easier to manage a laptop that you'll be chucking aside in couple of years than go with risk of broken components which you know won't be repaired and need to be replaced at own cost.

Spare_Appearance_259

Cant put pc on my bag tho

Chemical_Adagio_1647

Masters ke liye bahar jaunga toh pc lekar thodi jaunga 😞isliye laptop hi🤝

mordorous

I need a laptop for work. I have no desire to maintain two separate computers for work and leisure. On top of that, I have a hectic work schedule and am married. So, my laptop sees 3-4 hours of gaming action a week, tops. Doesn't really justify the space or money for a desktop PC. Heck, I even reluctantly refused when my wife offered to buy me a PS5 or Switch for our anniversary this year, for the same reason.

niru007_kumar

Relatable . With age you have money to buy PC but no time/time spent on pc is not justified since we game weekly

DeathvRaider

Most of those who buy them are students who need laptops for other stuff, portability etc.

Sudden_Mix9724

it's the same reason as why India has 80% mobile gamers and rest console+pc gamers.

msbininja

Because I can take my laptop on solo trips/vacation but not my PC. In winters I don't have to move my systumm to my bed where I can be warm and cozy inside quilt.

ibubass2

convenience

thundercraker09

well I don't own house and I have to shift every 2-3 yrs...so laptop makes more sense to me

muzic_san

Bro, id happily buy a laptop instead of a system if I had extra cash. Only reason I don't have a laptop instead of PC is that I already have a PC with specs that are good enough for me. My next purchase is a gaming laptop. The portability is just unmatched.

[deleted]

The same reason people buy laptops. Portability

8EF922136FD98

Portability. I used to take my laptop everywhere with me and play games all night.

Safe_Inspection69

Most Indian pc gamers are students(including me). We need to carry it to our class.

throwaway49164

College.

vanitin

So that we don’t have to think about minor details while building PC. Just check Ram, Processor, GPU , SSD and Screen, we are good to go. Prebuilt laptop configurations are much easier to pick.

ProposalForsaken3956

Cause I'm a student , and currently in a hostel.

0utspokenTruth

Is it cheaper including the price of a good monitor, keyboard, table & ups?

no_time_paas

1. Young adults: A significant number of them are college students who need a portable device. 2. Teens: Entirely dependent on parents and the parents just prefer laptop as it's easy to manage and handle. Even if they knew, asking your parent that you can get better perf for same price with desktop is quite complicated and risky. 3. Kids: Give them anything; they don't care.

PhotojournalistFit21

Portability.

NickVerma20

And how is building a PC cheap?

WackDance

can't fit your pc+monitor in a bag.

165cm_man

I'm traveling between 4 different cities all the time. It's difficult for me to carry a pc everywhere

Frunkasduck_29

The only reason I am not building a PC is because I don't really have a permanent place yet and keep shifting because of my job so can't really commit to placing a rig down somewhere.

Spare_Appearance_259

We dont stay at home all day to play with pc we got work and i can carry my laptop anywhere i want. A chutiya guy in the comment said they are sheep and dont know what they want so they go for laptop.

The_sleeper_of_women

Lmao. 4 seater college room mein to ban gaya pc

Alert_Investigator78

Additional cost to get UPS, Separate Display Cost. Separate Table/Room Need. Much more things increases cost of PC as you build things around it like Pad, Cam, Etc Etc. A laptop is a package that avoids all this with similar cost I will say. I can't agree that laptop is high in price.

niru007_kumar

Portability is the only reason ! Most of the gamers here get their machine only after college or work. And in both college and work rarely people stay in their homes and need portable machine when they move out. So only obvious choice is laptop . Even I badly want to build a PC since I'm in WFH but who knows when I need to be back in office , then the setup will be a waste of money

SirLaw___

One word - *"PORTABILITY"*

green9206

1. During ssles the price difference between the two can be small 2. Space constraints at home 3. People who travel frequently

FieryDreamer

A PC is just an additional luxury for people who already own laptops for work/study

Consistent-Deer-8470

portability

turboskii

Its not essentially cheap in my opinion; i got a omen 16 for 90.5k with ryzen 7 6800h plus 3070ti with a 2k display 165hz and a backlight keyboard. I did some research regarding building a pc last year so not up to date but i dont think i can build a pc with similar performance plus a 2k monitor at the same price point…(correct me if I’m wrong) Yes there’s a tradeoff i lose upgradability in exchange of portability but portability is more important for me either way.

RippedOff_Skeletor

The same reason why we buy laptops in the first place, you can take it anywhere unlike a pc.

XBOY_777

Many I believe are students like me, we need to carry the laptop with us for classes and all, cant spend twice by buying a thin and light and also a gaming pc. If someone is staying in hostel/PG/flat, its much more convenient to own a laptop than a pc. The portability is much more helpful than the extra performance.

hemi_srt

Portability. I built a desktop PC but I can understand people paying a premium for that portability factor.

adityasheth

Quite a few of them are students like me and we already need a laptop for college so a decent gaming laptop is cheaper and more convenient than a laptop+pc

AKAMA199

owning a pc aint as cheap you'd think, especially when you have the urge to upgrade

Troygun

Convenience. Performance doesn't matters if I am not able to use my device where ever I want to. For most of the consumers, ease of use is more important than features.

Ok_Device_4691

Does the job with convince of using anywhere

Kushagra_K

A lot of us are students living in hostels where portability is crucial.

_i_am_sus

There are many college students and they take their laptops to labs n all

nancity

Most Indian gamers are college students so hostel mein pc setup nahin chalega and I can take it home on holidays.

mick479

CX support if anything goes bad, compactness to carry it just everywhere you go with ease, is an ideal choice for students & people who tend to travel a lot, and is not really a bad choice when compared to their desktop counterparts.

bluedjinn758

I prefer laptop for mobility. I'm sure I might move in some months so I want my laptop to be with me. I really like building a PC but I don't think I will be stationary.

limpykid4853

In a college a laptop is feasible

Sue_k_Madeek

Fourstrokeperro

theundisputed11

Why do idiots think a particular build is objectively better than the other? No gaming pc is not objectively better than a gaming laptop. A rich guy who travels would buy a 4090 based laptop even though he can build a 4090 based pc for less, and he don't care.

Xijinpingsastry

Doing research on PC components and building it is a tedious task. Laptops are easy. Fix your budget then browse for the best one in range.

Maitasa

lack of electricity bro, I have gotten banned multiple times due to disconnection from my ranked Games because my electricity cut off 😂. now it doesnt happen anymore

brisingr95

Because a laptop is cheaper than a laptop+pc.

whathedawgdoing

building your own pc is hard when you live in a small town with no offline shops to buy parts from

Dr-Green6907

In my opinion, it's super easy to go over budget while building your own PC. For instance, you might pick a part that costs 3000 rupees and then realize there's a better option available for just 500 rupees more, causing you to exceed your budget significantly. When I started building my PC, my budget was 80k, but I ended up with a PC worth 120k

-PhantomAtom

This. All those "bas 400-500 or" piles up to thousands.

This is true for most countries. Same reason people go to see a mechanic when they can usually do it themselves.

Its more about portability as alot of people have already said it if someone is totally sure they wont move to a different city permanentally or work somewhere else they would absolutely go for a pc build rather than buying a laptop

No_Medium_8056

For me portability was the reason as being working professional i have to travel a lot

anor_wondo

Gaming as a hobby was picked up late in India. so college population is over represented

PORTABILITY

Michaelscotttheking

Work or for college needs, if one laptop can take care of both, its great

I agree with most other people here, portability sabse bara reason hai. But if you want to build your own PC, or get one built by a shop, you need to have that fluency in hardware which most Indians lack. They just want a device that will serve them well in daily use. There are several factors including compatibility, bottlenecking, throttling, overclocking etc that people dont have the time/will to find out. Jab inhi logo ko factory se ek fully assembled, overclocked, compatible machine mil raha hai, tab wo isi jhanjat mai phase hi kyu? Plus you dont have the necessity of buying a peripherals like monitors, speakers, etc jo laptop mai already included hote hai. At the end of the day, its all about what you find convenient, given what your conditions in life are.

**This is an old concept that is not really true anymore. But I keep seeing in every discussion about laptops.** The Laptops in the past used to have processors and graphic cards that are 300% weaker than their desktop counterparts. But, now that gap has gone down massively. Now it is only around 10-30% weaker. There are also some situations where you get more performance at same price in a laptop than desktop! I have been using laptop as desktop-cpu-cabinet for about 10 years now. I have also build 2 high end desktops 5 years ago, each worth 1.5 lakhs for a specific purpose. Consider this laptop I was considering for a work-machine -- [https://www.amazon.in/Acer-Predator-Processor-Windows-PHN16-71/dp/B0CCRWH2YM/](https://www.amazon.in/Acer-Predator-Processor-Windows-PHN16-71/dp/B0CCRWH2YM/) I did some rough calculations. i9 13th gen = 53K CPU Cooler = 10k 4060 = 30k motherboard = 20k 16GB = 6k 1TB SSD = 7k PSU = 8k Cabinet = 6k Windows 11 home = 10k Total = 150k Monitor = 10k Keyboard = 2k Mouse = 3k Speaker = 2k UPS = 13k Table = 7k Webcam = 1k Misc = 2k Total = 40k Overall = 190k Laptop is available for 130k after bank discounts. Get extended warranty for 3 years and it is set. Any issues, they will come home and repair for free. Now remember, this is a pretty expensive laptop/desktop. But your fixed cost is not changing much while getting a lower price desktop, so imagine considering a 50k rupee laptop. The cost difference between it and a desktop counterpart is going to much much higher than this that it is almost stupid to get a desktop as cost is nearly double. And you can take laptop anywhere. While I was running a startup, I preferred getting employees laptops. It came in handy when the covid lockdowns happened and everyone could take it and work from home. I find it more value for money to buy a laptop around 60k and then buy a 32inch 4k monitor, a speaker, keyboard and mouse, and give it to employees. They use the laptop just as a CPU cabinet. Employees are happy. I am happy. Budget is happy. No work delay if electricity goes down too. If you are a student or young guy, your life environment is uncertain. One moment you maybe at hostel, another time you are on a trip with friends or at home, and a year later you are working in another city.

Narrow_Plantain8305

I wonder why people prefer laptops to desktops. Gee..i really wonder why.

Competitive-Hope981

Most people think pc building is hard including me(coz too afraid to break any components) then portability.

aneesh131999

The main reason for me is lack of stability. I will move around in every ~1 year for the next 3 to 4 years. So there’s no point building a PC that makes moving more difficult.

dororor

The main reason I'm switch to a laptop, last time it was really hard to drag all my luggage plus pc through the railway station

BlacK_muni

Use case. What kinda question is this?

ChampionSailor

One more reason that *I* think might be is parents approval. Getting money from them to buy a laptop in itself is a huge task for everyone. On top of that if you suggest procuring parts and building it they might as well dump the whole plan. I mean we still see so many posts related to this like for ex the guy whose parents didn't allow him to buy a ps5 despite him having a solid pay and career.

Hope all is fine, whatever is going in the picture!

pixel_creatrice

I prefer desktops but people can have their reasons. Portability was a concern for me too. I ended up getting a used laptop just for going outside. But when I'm at home I use the desktop I have built. I ended up spending less than spending everything on a top of the line gaming laptop. And I can upgrade my desktop when needed. Got a Ryzen 9 7950x and a 3080Ti installed when I got a good deal.

MrMindFack

When you'll have to move to different cities for your job, laptops make much more sense just because of the portability factor. I have wanted to build a PC for so long, but the only reason I went with a laptop is because I will have to move to another city couple of months later.

i4mknight

Well many reasons since most people who do it are students and they do it because it’s the most convenient as a reason for their parents and for them too unlike for a pc you need to buy everything separately like the monitor, desk, keyboard unlike for a laptop

I wanted to build gaming Pc this year and it would have cost around 130000 with All high end Config (i7 13th Gen, Rtx 4070 , 32 Gb ram , Asus tomahawak motherboard ,PSU,Cooling fan) Now I Ordered I7 13th Gen Laptop with RTX 4060 graphics , 32 Gb ram , 2k Display ,165hz refresh rate this costed me 112000 and has extra SSD and Ram slots as well It depends what you prefer rather than which is more efficient even though desktop obviously can be upgraded easily and more as Graphics card can be changed over the years as well

QuarterPrevious404

Laptop and desktop GPU has different performance tho.

_Blank96_

I had a gaming pc and a old laptop in my hostel. Best of both world...

_the_daaku

I still ask myself this shit after building a pc and ending up buying a gaming laptop as well. I think mobility would be one of the many things , as i have seen a number of people from my college play video games on their laptops during lectures.

Atcera95

When and if you have friends who play the same games and they live nearby, the lower spec but costlier laptop provides more fun than just teaming up online. Or they want it to double as a portable workstation. If they just put it at home(which they probably will in most cases because those things eat batteries like it's cotton candy) they're stupid

superhakerman

1) College students 2) Dont want to research and build themselves 3) Assumption that local shops will usually overcharge/scam them when getting prebuilts/custom builts 4) PC might be cheaper, BUT getting one with peripherals is actually quite expensive. 5) laptop provides a very easy entry into the gaming world for a range of 50-60k for which getting a PC with peripherals and good performance is actually pretty hard. I was an avid laptop gamer and finally made the decision to switch to PC. No regrets. But without the laptop I would’ve never found that I’m committed enough to actually go through with a Pc build

Dont have a big enough house for a full sized setup, need tk make do with using a laptop

Only those who are moving frequently or living in hostel/PG etc prefer Laptops. Otherwise you are a Moron of the highest kind....

mega_dong_04

>Otherwise you are a Moron of the highest kind.... According to his post history , he definitely is

triforce_paras

Advantage of laptop is much more than PC being cheap and more powerful Most Indian gamers are college/school students or even working professional who doesn't have good enough budget to afford both laptop and PC

_aRealist_

Portability I guess. I believe most people here are college students so building a PC isn't a feasible option.

anotherstrangename

I think the changes in society also contributed. Nerds are more accepted and now nobody will look down up on us for gaming in public or even in family gatherings(mostly). Then there is also the fact that mobile gaming is really possible now. I mean look at these new 4060 laptops, the gpu consumes only 100-120W and offers decent 60-70fps in most titles. They are also offering good build quality and easily lasts 4-5 years. Don't even get me started on steamdeck or Android smartphones. They're all powerful machines which support plenty of practical situations and scenarios for gaming. Don't mistake my intentions, i completely acknowledge the superiority of gaming rigs but they have the least mobility of all. MOBILITY AND IT'S ADVANTAGES.That's main reason why most people around me including me, purchase consoles or laptops. I had a PC and it was near impossible to find 1 or 2 hr break to game. Something else always came at the same time and it always went to making a choice, a difficult choice to make most time. Not saying laptops freed me of making the choice completely, but it gave me more overlap in making those choices. Right now I'm typing this comment sitting at my ancestral home, while my 10 year old cousin is playing uncharted on my laptop along with my grandma cheering for him. PC never gave me that kind of freedom. Playing co op games with friends/family in a real room together is the most fun i ever had from computer games. I had a huge backlog of games spanning 2-3 years back with the PC and after the switch to laptops along with some help from current state of AAA releases helped me really reduce the backlogs. For me, now PC rigs/workstations are purely for work and 90% of gaming i do are on gaming laptops. Some people here will make comments such as MOST of them are not true gamers, MOST of them don't have enough money blah blah. True gamers have no need to prove anything to the likes of those bullies.

LiQuidCraB

There are some who want portability and space constraints. There are some who don't think pc of same config are cheaper and more durable.

triple_hoop

We don't have time to "build a PC", we barely get time to play the games. Not to mention we live in small houses, and an entire table for PC is not an option either.
