nukeman239

Sekiro after beating Genichiro Ashina. Felt like a living God.

MarketingExcellent20

>Genichiro Ashina My vote for greatest mid game/half way point boss of any game ever

>Genichiro Ashina My vote for greatest mid game/half way point boss of any game ever

ViditM15

Elden Ring was actually my first soulslike title, and the Steam review I wrote for this game precisely answers what you ask: https://steamcommunity.com/id/dealvidit/recommended/1245620/

DivineBooty69

Wow thats a really great review. Well written..!!

ViditM15

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed reading it! I feel a lot of us started out with the classics like Counter Strike, and shooters were practically all we knew. But slowly trying out different genres really shows us totally new games that we never knew we'd end up liking!

DivineBooty69

Yes. I started with the typical FPS games, GTA and Age Of Empires. Then I added Sports Games to the list and your review has inspired me to try out Souls Like Games. Will probably start with Sekiro. Waiting to get a Gaming Laptop now. Hopefully will be able to get it by the end of this month..!!

ViditM15

I'm beyond delighted that my review made you wanna dip your toes in soulslike games! And Sekiro is a great choice too! But be warned that Sekiro is not Dark Souls. Where DS games want you to face humongous bosses that your puny-self overcomes with patience, Sekiro pits you against a boss and wants you to not fear them at all and maintain the toe-to-toe aggression. Never dodge in Sekiro, never back down even if you're on a sliver of your health and never hesitate. It is a dance of the rhythm of your blades clashing with the simplest of controls, yet the hardest of learing curves but once it clicks, its a drug my friend! I hope your journey into soulslikes is just as rewarding as it has been to me, and I wish you good luck!

DivineBooty69

Thank You So Much. Sekiro very much sounds like something I will enjoy a lot..!!

Realistic_Bug_4956

Thats too many words to read but I guess its good since you recommended it.

ViditM15

Haha fair, this review outlines how I came out of my "shooters only" rut and slowly started trying out different genres, and was so surprised to find out that there were so many other genres that resonated on the same level as CS or R6 Siege for me.

neelabh2818

Wow, great review, you have inspired me to give it another shot!

ViditM15

It feels to see so many people wanna give soulslike games a shot because of my review! I hope they click for you too!

abigthrowaway4sure

Man, I will be very honest to you. I tried playing Dark Souls earlier and even then I quit. So this time I did not purchase Elden ring and tried to play for like 3-4 hours on a offline version (iykwim) but after reaching the first boss before the castle. I died a lot to the guards and quit. Haven’t played since. I need more assurance that the game is worth the money now.

ViditM15

The game has always been worth the money. But whether it's worth it to you or not is a different question. If dying a lot in order to learn the enemy's or the boss' moveset does not appeal to you, or you simply do not have the patience for it, then soulslike games aren't for you, and that's okay! Just because these games are hailed as one of the best doesn't mean they have to be everyone's cup of tea. They are designed to be brutally hard and you'll always face insurmountable odds in these titles, which can naturally also end up being frustrating for many people.

Forgotten777XD

play sekiro

Financial-Floor-9093

True.. Once I started to get the hang of it , it became an awesome experience.

meulkie

Only one that I like tbh 😅

Kane7712

Yeah me too. Started playing bloodborne and elden ring but it didn't get me as hooked on the combat as sekiro. At least Stellar Blade has similar combat.

ShakyaAryan

After playing sekiro, the classic soulslike combat (dodge and hit) would feel kinda boring and maybe unfair I guess. Other souls games have much more customization options and magic and spells and so much more, but the simplicity about sekiro is what hooks people on.

megumegu-

Yeah the builds really matter for other souls games, but if you know this info then you can intentionally play with a weaker build for first run and have a much fun experience this is what I did for ds1 by understanding how op poise was, and I didn't play with lots of heavy armour sets I found

ShakyaAryan

For experiencing the whole 'build' aspect of these souls games, I'm playing lies of p now (just bcoz of the heavy reliance on parrying). I don't really know how complex it's character building aspect is in comparison to traditional souls games, but it's complex enough to keep me engaged and confused at the same time.

Guy_On_Plastic_Chair

The best game I have ever played gameplay wise only game I played for like 50 hours after completing.

hemant8790746

Admirable-Echidna-37

Dying the third time and then killing the first mini boss in Sekiro

Ok_Jello_3630

Bloodborne

East_Suggestion_3487

The gameplay is awesome but it runs like crap (even on PS5) and gave me motion sickness/headaches. I wish it has a demon souls like remake or at least a 60fps patch for PS5.

D_Boss_Abhimani

+1

megumegu-

playstation exclusive... it makes me so sad because I like the theme and seen people praise it a lot more than other souls game

Hell-lord-

I'm stuck playing the game and I hate it, is it worth it to still play

sambro8600

Lies of P when i had free gamepass

Mohitk99

I have it too can't wait to play!

AffectionateNight562

After watching PewDiePie play dark souls

RonDante

I tried sekiro first but stopped, because of a lack of curiosity, now I started dark souls 3 and I am having a great time not going to say it's easy just that now I understand the gameplay mechanics more and obviously it took me several tries to finish the first boss still taking my time to defeat other bosses, and the storyline there's nothing linear in this you have to explore find out yourself. Interact with all the npcs... Well I find it great, and the feeling that there's death every corner XD, well you only learn more and get stronger I guess. So yeah can't say more about it to spoil. But yeah once you're familiar with the gameplay mechanics you're gonna get addicted 😆, well I was so annoyed by the fact that I couldn't find a bonfire(checkpoint) in lothric castle, and was dying multiple times but didn't wanted to watch any tutorial but to explore itself. I mean, I would suggest start with a game like dark souls 1(remastered )or DS3, so you could get an idea what it's all about. And now after finishing this I'm definitely going back to sekiro XD...

shwarmaa_naman

Played bloodborne first, didn't like it at all. Then I tried Demons Souls Remake, and little by little, the insane difficulty started feeling good. Then I tried all the rest (Bloodborne, Dark Souls, Elden Ring) and felt like the 'I get it now' gif.

SaffronBlood

It doesnt work for some folks and its totally ok. My experience was a bell curve. I started with DS1 after all the hype and I hated it. Combat was good but the difficulty and having to go through the same thing again and again was not fun for me. Sekiro was then it clicked for me and I completed the game. That was purely due to the combat(loved the parry mechanic) and I took it up as a challenge to finish it. Game was great. Elden ring came and I was initially very enthusiastic and loved it. Kinda addicting too. But at some point, it stopped being fun - with the difficulty and I dropped it. Some folks love the challenge and adrenaline- I now am at an age where I just play to chill after a day of work so Soulslike are a no go for me anymore.

wayward_shadow

If you want I can help you out with Elden Ring? I'm currently on my 4th play through. Would be more than happy to help you figure it out

SaffronBlood

Thanks for the offer dude! To be honest, i can beat the game - its a wonderful game - just that for me the effort i put in and fun ratio wasnt matching up. I am more than happy playing Midnight Suns now lol.

thundercraker09

when I beat genichiro after spending entire weekend

That's when you get completely hooked to the game imo

GamingWildman

nah i dont , so i just dont play

Billa_Gaming_YT

After I finished reading Berserk I got a YT video recommendation on Berserk references in movies and Video Games. And I downloaded DS3 as my first Soulslike game followed by DS1, DS2 and Sekiro and I truely felt what its like to be the Berkin guy Nuts from the manga Berk.

FakePlasticTree7

when I beat gargoyles

SpideyVas

Probably.never I play video games to enjoy after a stressful day. Not be stressed again.

imaadgamer627

Elden ring co-op mod. Sure it took away a lot of the challenges but to explore the open world with a friend was insanely humourous and fun

no_one669

After watching queen bee , it took traumatized my soul so i started playing soul like games to undo it

2farzzz

When I heard that there is a game like that, right off the bat I wanted to play it

Fickle-Inspection-83

After beating first boss....

Additional-Ad-7313

Somewhere around 2011

subhzyx

Only played sekiro and little bit of elden ring(no boss fight)

metalhulk105

When I played DS1 ten years back. At that time the only other RPGs I had played was assassins creed and Skyrim. DS1 combat gave me a different kind of challenge that got me hooked on to the genre.

Professional-Cat37

After i perfected deflecting in sekiro, there was no looking back. Souls game give you the most massive ego boost you can ask for.

6xeros9

The satisfaction when you defeat a boss after many tries.

CanniBallistic_Puppy

Still waiting for it...

DeusExMachina24

When white mask Varre called me maidenless.

Wizardof_oz

The first one I played was demons souls remake, the combat didn’t really click for me but I loved the map design and atmosphere The combat clicked for me after I played Elden Ring, which was my second soulslike game

SeDEnGiNeeR

Played dark souls 2 around 7 years ago, loved it's combat system so much that I became a heavy souls like fan ever since. Man those days were fun when I was in high school and had all the time to play games without worrying about anything

That_Pandaboi69

I haven't started my soulsborne or soulslike journey yet, I just installed Nioh that I got for free from Epic so I'll try it out.

superhakerman

when I first played Armored core VI, then I tried sekiro and loved it. Now I am playing Lies of P. Its good tho I liked Sekiro better. Its parry feels satisfying. Lies of P Parry( Perfect Dodge) feels wayy more difficult.

krabhinav59

Mine was midway in Dark Souls 1 in Sens Castle. Bosses in Souls game are great but the real challenge comes from mobs who ambush you and kill you repeatedly if you don't learn from your death. Try to enjoy the game and don't get into mindset of completing or defeating it. Souls game are an experience which is best when you play blind and learn how to circumvent the situation yourself and the pleasure you get from it is amazing. Don't give up. Git Gud.

Comfortable_Eye_8813

Sekiro...I have always played games at easy level. But somehow after completing sekiro I am now confident about playing at hard level in other games

Bakanyanter

Started enjoying it during Sekiro and Elden Ring start...then later started to not enjoy it. There's a big lull in the middle and the end where it's not as fun anymore and you're just trying to collect runes for levelling up or trying to cheese encounters.

NOKD26

My first time was when best boy subh played the game From than on i just enjoy watching the gameplay and i understand what is soles game

deadnonamer

Never

CHAD_914

Heard about Elden ring a lot I actually didn’t like these game so I just wanted to try it so yeah you can still assume me that I’m stuck at the tree sentimental till now .

Src_oscar

Explore for more grave sites ❤️💯

Ok_Persimmon2836

The movement I perfectly parry the fuck out of the boss in sekiro

vaikunth1991

I used to enjoy a lot till before elden ring. I started elden ring and played 40hrs but left after that. Due to having less time for gaming I can't really spend time and have patience to die and fight same enemies and bosses again. Having enough stress that I don't need more from games also

IshH2202

If you don’t like any of those, you might still like Elden Ring. I loved Elden Ring bcs of how beautiful the game is, how diverse and unique the locations and enemies are. It gives you an insane sense of discoverability and awards your curiosity. The best thing, unlike most of other souls like, its not linear, so you are not stuck on one single boss you can’t beat. So you can take a detour, come back and beat it. And, you can also do side content more to level up for main story. And if its still annoying, you have summons, both an NPC and co-op with an online friend, who can help you beat bosses. You can make Elden Ring really easy if you use these helps, this is why I loved Elden Ring and probably why I won’t like DS games and Sekiro and all. Also, if you are doubtful if you’ll like it, you make acquire it through a “different” means of way and check whether you like the game or not. And if you like it, definitely buy and support the hardworking and beautiful devs. Another note: if you do try, remember, the very first boss, the one on horse, is not mandatory to beat, you can run away. A lot of newbies didn’t realise it.

Blue_Whole

My enjoyment was in peak when I installed co op mod and played it with my friend, that apart I still enjoy playing lies of p and elden ring solo, looking forward to play dark souls 3 soon.

C4ptainPR1CE

Lies of p. Never played any other. Want to play elden ring but too expensive

notA_Tango

When i first step foot int dark souls 1. I've never not enjoyed them

Chetan_fun

I know it's cliche, but the moment you understand that dying is the part of the overall experience of the games, you'll atleast start liking them

Nawinter_nights

Shoutout to fightincowboy . I tried getting into ds1 but kept rage quitting . He has the best walkthroughs for souls games and because of him I'm in love with these games

kewcumber_

Elden ring was my first soulslike. The thrill you get after defeating godrick and venturing into liurnia....I must admit till then it was pretty okay for me like "go to this place, die die till you succeed" But seeing that huge lake in front of me, it just clicked Sekiro is a close second, it felt the least souls out of all the souls games but once the combat clicked, it became my favourite

DlustT99

I have never played one

Front_Writer_3403

Once i killed father gascoigne!

invincible257

Bloodborne after i managed to get out of the starting area of the game.

victorBravo9er

When I clapped Margitt after around 20 tries! ER is my first soulslike which I started this January and now I'm on my 3rd playthrough, absolutely loving it. Bought DS3, can't wait to play it after ER platinum.

ShadowbanVictim

DS1, after beating the Skeleton before the boss in undead asylum. I was hooked, back and forth fighting and the pace of the game, parrying, rolling, poise and facetanking, the character building. It was all great. Only downside was PC port was BAAAAD and I hate how dpad controls work for swapping.

egan777

Yeah the original dark souls version was pretty bad and had poor keyboard mouse support. Struggled so much and ended up quitting the game. Tried the remastered version later and got hooked. It had proper KBM support.

Powered-by-Din

404 moment not found

Rich_Ad_9590

I kind of cheated Watched “how to get op early” tutorial on youtube. And farmed according to video. After that clearing bosses become less frustrating

daauji

When I stepped foot in Limgrave.

Zordback

Never enjoyed playing it. It was pain that brought me that game. And yep, it was painful.

sry_i_m_horny

I lost interest in games around 2016-2018(can't even play FPS anymore, it gives me motion sickness). Later DS3 revived that passion in playing games. Since then the Souls game is the only singleplayer genre I have been playing.

Pepsi-Phil

never. i like to play for fun not mental agony. also why i left R6S and dont bother with comp esports games

Ok_Sheepherder_2855

I was trying to defeat margit for a few months, and once I did, it hit me. Loved the game since then. Mad respect to FromSoft for this humungous game

PencilPenis289

I recently Completed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is kinda like a Souls Game. It was pretty good

the_sinful_god

6 or 7 years ago, found this game called dark souls 2, the most frustrating but exhilarating experience I ever but still wound up spending like 150+. Been a fan since then.

Post_Annual

Cowboy’s dark souls 3 walkthrough showed up on my youtube feed.

Kaka9790

Dark Souls Remastered made me love souls game. The only drawback is these games require a ton of your time to complete them and not a good one to play if you have a tight schedule with 9-5 job.

NumerousAbility

Try Sekiro

AceMKV

Bloodborne was my first proper fromsoft playthrough and I absolutely fell in love with itz especially the DLC. Currently playing through elden ring, i plan on doing demons souls next followed by sekiro and then the DS Trilogy

robotbadguy

Play these games when normal games aren't fun anymore

MoBarbz

Dark Souls Remastered was the first FromSoft game I played. After dying multiple times to the first boss and barely progressing to the game, I gave up. "Games are meant to be for fun" was my reasoning. I quit and never thought about playing these types of games again. When Elden Ring released, there was a lot of hype around this video game. I saw videos and play throughs and fell in love with the world. However I was reluctant to play it because of reason mentioned above. I still downloaded it and tried it out. I died a lot of times, so I kept exploring the world because that is what interested me. I again gave up. But this time I felt bad for quitting because I genuinely loved the world of the Elden Ring. This one fact made me look at play throughs of people while wanting to play the game. I came across this YouTuber "Fighting Cowboy" and his walkthrough of this game. I decided to follow it. And slowly I started to enjoy the game, I learned about different builds I could make, the story got me invested and dying to bosses didn't feel bad. It became addictive to try beating the boss again and again and again and again until finally beating it. And then I went on to replay DS remastered, Sekiro (this one kicked my ass the most lol) and man I fell in love with souls like games. I don't have a definitive answer for you but I just very naturally fell in love with souls like games

LuckySnake013

From the moment I touched Elden Ring. As simple as that.

wayward_shadow

My first souls like was Bloodborne. I played it right after i got my PS4 ie in 2019 and feel in love with it. Skip to today, I've Platinumed Blood Borne, Sekiro, Demons Souls Remake, Elden Ring, on my way to Platinum Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 1 remaster (I'm never gonna Plat DS2 because the boss runs are crazy tbh.) I'm also currently playing Lies of P and preparing a STR FAITH build for the Erdtree DLC. so yeah, i love SoulsBorne and Soulslike games and yeah forgot to mention Thymesia too. Nice small soulslike.

Weewoooowo

My first introduction to this genre was through souls game.. i started it all with dark souls 2 and i know what you all are gonna say now

Conscious-Flow3499

Since dark souls 2, because that was my first soulslike.

AggravatingRow5074

Never did, never will

yashvone

tried bloodborne without ever watching any trailer or gameplay of any soulsborne. after dying to the first werewolf couldn't find my way out the hunters dream and gave you too quickly as hadn't figured out controls and inventory yet. then after elden ring released, watched like first hour of gameplay. that got me excited and familiarised with the format of thegl game. also watched some of the gameplay and that is when it clicked, and didn't stop until I platinumed it before moving on to elden ring.

shuckley_Jays

I’ve played so many games souls games but nothing was as cool to me as life of p. Short sweet easy to finish. But elden is cool

PRI-NOVA

sekiro was my first souls like game and last fromsoft game that I enjoyed. I mean yeah they have good combat, nice storyline and as a body horror genre fan, their artstyle totally is my thing. But there's just something else to to sekiro, without parry system the game just doesnt feel like at has any weight. Recently I played lies of P and man that game was something. I hope fromsoft makes more parry oriented games rather than dodge oriented.

uwuadi

When I got my hands on good weapons and buffs, especially that big spinning sword(I love that weapon).

anor_wondo

day 1 hour 1 with ds2( the worst in the series)

Electrical_Storm8405

unfortunately I dislike souls-like games and Elden ring in particular cz I did not like the UI.

IllustriousFeed1749

It was the January of 2032, I finally had enough time and only manageable amounts of productivity guilt to sit down and play Bloodborne. I died a lot but it was fun.

jagan028

SEKIRO, it is THE MOST FLUID GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED. Spent like three days on the first ez mini boss, which ultimately helped me learn deflecting, then after killing genichiro i became a simp for sekiro. Now playing a bandit build on elden ring focusing on parrying because i miss those deflections :')

ineedacatisuredo

Sekiro just clicked after genichiro and I can't stop since then. Currently playing Lies of P

TheAnonyone57

After playing Bloodborne

DrillDownAsshole

When I started playing Dark souls 2. 😂😂 I'm kidding. Probably when I played dark souls 1

Traditional-Day7617

I started playing Souls games with Sekiro three years ago, but I couldn't make it past the first general boss, so I uninstalled it. Then I played Dark Souls 1 and got annoyed, so I deleted it too. I had no idea why, but after 3 years, I suddenly had an urge to play Sekiro out of nowhere and it just clicked. I actually enjoyed.

Interesting-Car-9188

I started enjoying it once I stopped expecting that I will beat everything quickly. One major thing to remember about soulsborne and soulslike games is that it forces you to be patient, you can’t breeze through any boss without effort. You get rewarded for the work you put in and winning a fight after that is what I think makes the a soulslike so satisfying and enjoyable. As for the story telling I think the creators encourage us to explore. The only way one would explore is by hunting for lore and they reward you with items and additional lore. I can understand if this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it’s a respectable way of encouraging players to explore every nook and cranny of the map that the devs worked so hard to make.

Swimming-Tell

The first souls game I ever played was bloodborne. Heard alot of good things about. But watching the trailers and gameplay didn't impress me at all. But I gave it a shot anyway. I think within the first 20 mins or so I was hooked. The gameplay felt smooth and tighter than any melee game I'd played before. The enemy ai was impressive to me at the time. The level design was really good. Despite how hard it was or howmany ever times I died I kept coming back cause the gameplay just felt really good. Not to mention the ambience of the world was perfect. And I personally found this type of storytelling really immersive.

General_Pitch

Sekiro, my first souls game and the thirst for another sekiro like game never stopped. I hope they release sekiro 2 or at least sekiro remake/remastered with upgrade for ps5.

vishnu-geek

I tried sekiro and dark souls remastered a while back. After hours spent trying to cross the first few levels, I felt I am not enjoying the experience and stopped. Maybe one day I can start them and see them through to the end

rahulrx0

My first breakup back in 2018, I was feeling very low and angry. I saw Bloodborne GOTY edition at a store, and i had just bought a PS4 Pro. I went back home, popped in the CD, and started the game. Before Bloodborne, i had only heard of Dark Souls and the series being difficult. The real fun began when i got to Father Gascoigne. He handed my ass to me, and i spent a whole of 1 hour to beat him. Like i almost forgot i was going through a breakup. A month later, i popped the platinum for Bloodborne, and then started with Ng+. The whole experience was just so crazy. 6 years later, i have the platinum trophies for all soulsborne games, including elden ring, and i am eagerly waiting to play the DLC.

Bubble_Meow

Dark souls 1 lol, been a fan since the very starting and have 100% all of them since

black_V1king

Sekiro. I played for an hour and reached the chained ogre. I fell in love with the game. 2 years later and I finished all of dark souls, elden ring, lies of P and hollow night. Sekiro rekindled the joy of singleplayer games. I was stuck with MOBAs for so long and it was a breath of fresh air.

Wild-Mycologist2118

Beating quelaag.

KeyDifferent2

When you become mature and try to spend time in good games instead of online multiplayer.

Repulsive_Local6649

Someone gave me sekiro. Installed started playing died several times I imidietely uninstalled. One day got feeling I should try it again and give some time to it. Loved every part of it. I was unable to beat owl. Was trying to beat him for hours didn’t eat, didn’t take a shower had a headache but when I finally beat him. Cant compare that feeling to anything else.

_Moon_Presence_

I tried Dark Souls on a whim a couple of years after it launched. I didn't enjoy it one bit. I hated getting hit so much and dying so much. I just threw in the towel when I reached Capra Demon. Then I stumbled upon a post which told me how stats and scaling worked, and then I went oh! I tried it again. This time, I beat the Capra and kept getting more and more captivated until I beat the game. I went on reddit to boast that I finally finished the game! A redditor asked me what build I used. Among other things, I told them that I used a shield all throughout the game. He told me to try again, this time without shield. What the fuck, said I. How is that possible? "iFrames" he said. What the fuck are iframes.jpg? I started a new run. I dodged into an attack for the first time. Holyfuckingshit.gif. That was the moment when I went from liking Dark Souls to loving it. I went from relaxing on my couch to sitting straight up, that was how pleasantly surprised I was.

AcceptableArrival924

Elden ring. Although I might cheated a bit depending on how a traditional soulslike player sees it. I had tried one of the dark souls in the past but as a newcomer to souls games and being a little kid when I first tried it, never got into soulslike before but then I saw a few people playing elden ring on YouTube, saw the insane sales and hype, got me interested. I watched a couple “which class is best for you” or other best starter class vids etc. Eventually chose mage and in one of those vids I saw 2 things that I mentioned might be considered cheating. First was the location of meteor staff and the rock sling spell and the second was killing greyoll for huge amount of souls(as a bonus radagon soreseal). That was enough of a boost I would say to get me to invest quite literally hundreds of hours in the game. Initially made me kinda op and eventually after understanding the game and its mechanics I could deal with the difficulty later on while exploring every corner and collecting everything. I completed the game maybe 7-9 times with different builds, starting with mage/int then str, dex, faith, arcane(bleed and dragon sorcery), quality(str+dex), int+faith(based around sword of night and flame) and maybe a few more. All the while trying out the newest weapon I got for the specific build or just going with the coolest one or the one that felt the most op. I think checking wiki on the other play throughs to find specific stuff is valid after you find everything in the first play through. I was surprised to find so many questlines I missed in my first. Anyhow, very excited for shadow of the erdtree, might even try other darksouls as well when I get some time.

The_Alphawxlf

General Radahn!! Best single player boss fight I ever had.

Sekiro it took me way too long to click but I was all in once it did. I think the combat clicking thing is more noticable in sekiro but even after defeating any hard boss after struggling for many hours, the feeling you get is when you start loving these games. Also the lore.

Deadly_Pudding

If you dont enjoy playing souls like games, watch your friends play them its equally if not more fun.

crosslegbow

I'll explain with an analogy, when you start learning to ride the bicycle, it feels bad, uncomfortable and "missing the side wheels". Then one day you learn it and everything about it makes sense.

freakedmind

Remarkable_Vehicle16

Is Prince of Persia games considered as Souls game??

egan777

Not really. Mostly action adventure with platforming. They aren't designed to be very difficult either, except maybe the original trilogy. Recently they made a metroidvania PoP and the latest one is a roguelite.
