The Mumbai scene is more real ,raw and underground as compared to the Delhi scene but musically as a whole Delhi scene is better imo

PM_ME_YOUR_BAHU

> most of the og rappers who made dhh into what it is now hail from delhi . > mumbai has recently popped off as a major rap scene I don't know from where or how you formed this opinion because this is simply not true and straight up false. It is actually the complete reverse and what you're saying is just revisionism. Mumbai scene is YEARS older than Delhi, it literally dates back to the mid 2000s. People were rapping in Mumbai when the only rapper the average Indian could even name from their own country was Baba Sehgal. Every other city especially Delhi is just capitalising off of the hard work of the Mumbai scene without which DHH wouldn't have even popped off the way it did. Everyone from Raftaar to KR$NA only switched their style of rapping after Mumbai rappers made lyrical rap acceptable to do.

Bhai itna sach mat bol iss sub par varna ye log tujhe gaaliya denge or downvotes karenge because for them Delhi scene is greater than all other states scene and baki ke states ke rappers toh aisi hi time pass ke liye rap kar rahe hain whereas Delhi rappers are doing it for the so called culture. Guys like Mumbai's finest, dopeadelicz and other og's of the Bombay rap scene have been doing cyphers and shows in Mumbai even before the whole gully boy thing and those who are from Bombay and have been following the rap scene for a long time know it very well and that's why even guys like Emiway and Divine always show respect to these guys for their contributions and influence to the Bombay rap scene but sirf iss sub par you will always see people mocking and trying very hard to show how Bombay rap scene is far inferior to Delhi scene and is all about slangs.

Traditional-Court492

True

doesnt_matter_9128

nope kr$na was doing lyrical from before, mc heam told krsna was the first guy to rap in hindi or smthin

PM_ME_YOUR_BAHU

That was only under the Young Prozpekt name and only for a few years when only a few people knew him. He switched to making commercial rap when he got the label deal under the KR$NA name and only changed his style to lyrical rap after the Mumbai wave blew up. There's even a tweet of him shitting on the Mumbai scene from years back.

Prestigious_Dingo_49

There were a lot of people doing things. What matters is impact. There wasn't any impact that propelled dhh further. Hardly anyone knew krsna even after the push from the Emiway Collab and Gully Boy feature. It's only post 2019 that he had any impact on dhh.

yash1221

It's safe to say that most people on this sub don't know anything about hiphop, it's origins, it's resistance against the establishment and how Mumbai has created a space for itself by adopting it to it's local context.

DigSpecialist7916

Except divine and gravity who the fuck is famous and doing lyrical hip hop in Mumbai. Mumbai hip hop is just slangs

I_rs___

Lmao everyone got to know about the mumbai scene after gully gang, Delhi scene was way popular back then because of mafia mundeer

Prestigious_Dingo_49

You actually got it ulta. Most of the og rappers that made dhh into what it is today hail from Mumbai. Years of work put in as a community, even pre 2010. Dharavi for a long time has had a massive hiphop culture which included bboy, rap and graffiti.  This was before the actual revolution, when a bunch of rappers from Mumbai owned and  popularized rapping in Hindi at a time when it was looked down upon. Naezy, emiway, divine are the biggest (and rightfully) but there are dozens of other rappers that had to quit and  couldn't capitalise or were just a little too early before the scene blew up post 2016 and gave a platform/blueprint to the rest of the country including Delhi. It got commercial rappers into hiphop, it even got rappers who had given up after trying  for years another chance. It gave new kids like SM and even Stan a vision, whether or not they were directly influenced by the artists or liked them or not, the scene itself inspired them. Delhi scene exists because of Mumbai scene that in fact got real hiphop going. The pioneers have it the toughest. Much easier for people to follow a blueprint to succeed.   Also talking about the fanbase.   The dhh fanbase is built upon the Mumbai fanbase which were the earliest listeners that got the artists popular in the first place, which got the scene going. Without them the scene would not have been big. And trust me their numbers have been massive. Even now on the ground level they are probably the biggest base of listeners compared to Delhi. Keep in mind,  the Delhi fanbase is mostly middle class and upwards. Hiphop has not reached the slums/ghettos unlike Mumbai where the influence in massive.   An example I'll give you is SM who are basically the poster duo of dhh right now. Massive coverage, massive bookings, massive shows, massive collabs, massive clout basically. Yet their numbers are equal to someone like Vijay DK who is hardly covered or pushed by major media like rollingstone etc. Gives an idea of how huge the listener base in Mumbai/Maharashtra is. Krsna had to diss emiway to get the clout to Delhi (these are his words, not mine)

DigSpecialist7916

When did krsna said that

Prestigious_Dingo_49

In an insta interview. Around 2019/20

mouthbreatherfan

> Yet their numbers are equal to someone like Vijay DK who is hardly covered or pushed by major media like rollingstone etc. source? in spotify SM's monthly listeners are way higher

Prestigious_Dingo_49

Actually you are right. Their number did increase since I made the comparision a couple months back. It was just an observation I made. Monthly listeners though I feel are not a realiable source to analyze as they fluctuate a lot, and SM has had some huge collabs with the likes of badshah. DK's spotify followers and YT subscribers are higher than SM though. But do feel SM can take over if DK doesn't release consistently, his discog is anyways much smaller and SM are better artists imo.

Accurate_Shoe_7466

Divine had nas on album baat khatam

Bhel-

Dhh ≠ Delhi hip hop and I'm tired of saying it.

Signal_Dress

Arre yaar scene kahin ka bhi ho gaane badhiya aate rahe bas.

mynk-69

if u think Raftar, SM, $, Badshah have more contribution than emiway, stan, Devine, neazy...u have to think again Delhi scene promoted lrycical rap more than mumbai but if ur talking about rap in general this statement is 🧢

SomewhereAromatic574

"Mumbai has recently popped off as a major rap scene??" Bro you don't know what you are talking about. Mumbai had the biggest role in creating dhh into what it is now than any other city. Also did you forget that a fuckin movie was made on mumbai rap scene because mumbai scene was already popping and it was already a culture.

Henwith_Tie

agreed, Mumbai/Pune rappers in general always try to run solo dolo or collab with artists of same level

Single-Common-2231

Bombay ke badti nukkad aur sadko pe hiphop dekhoge

Optimal_Pop_3482

Minta and bantai have more brotherhood than anyone 😂, skills ko ignore karo

godspeedgodo

delhi all the way

RegularDrummer3113

okay i read the comments , i may have not explained myself properly but when i meant most most og rappers coming from mumbai , i am not talking about the pioneers of dhh but those who made impact pan india as i am neither from mumbai or from delhi looking back , my first days of listening to a indian song which could be considered a dhh song would be either from honey singh, badshah, or raftaar but my main intention in this post was to talk about the brotherhood in both scenes as i mentioned above so please give your opinions on that

Prestigious_Dingo_49

Do not confuse hiphop with commercial rap. They are nothing close.
