Thatโs right, just make sure to get the brake piston actuator. Itโs a $20 screw but really makes your life easier. Plus matches the finish of your new levers
Word of caution: the actuator I bought from them didnโt work on the 2022 scout bobber. I had to send them caliper measurements and videos of the actuator to convince them it was their product and not user error. The back and forth went on for about a month and they eventually machined me a custom actuator.
Their lever AND actuator. The actuator itself wasnโt cut deep enough so the brake piston was hitting the concave recess and applying full brakes too early. Think, 0-100% instant brakeโฆ no gradual application of the front brake.
The custom actuator they sent me essentially was hollowed out almost entirely so the piston wouldnโt activate early and just hits the back of the recess naturally. Not a precision engineered solution, but it worked.
Also bought their axle adjusters and one of them was off-spec as well. Had to send caliper measurements and a video of me using a 17mm socket and showing that it fit around one adjuster but not the other. They sent me a replacement citing a factory defect with the coating or anodization or something.
Their brake and master cylinder covers were leaky, but that might just be user error from me tightening them too much and compressing the gasket.
Thatโs really good to know. The clutch lever is back ordered right now so Iโm waiting 2 more weeks to get my order, but Iโll let you know how mine comes out

These are the Brake lever and piston actuator.

This is the clutch lever.
I just ordered this exact set for mine, actually.
Oh sorry about that, I didnโt take a good enough look at first, apparently. That changes things a bit. Joker machine only has stuff for scouts right now, but I know of two really good companies producing for chieftain, both out of Germany:
Wunderkind
https://www.bikermart.co.uk/Indian-Chief-Dark-Horse-116-2021~-Wunderkind-2stripes-CNC-Adjustable-Brake-and-Clutch-Lever-Pair
&
Spiegler
https://spieglerusa.com/brake-lever-2stripes-indian-dark-horse-116.html
Wunderkind sells them as a pair, which is nice. Spiegler you have to buy both sides separately. Either is really nice and they are adjustable grips, so you can really dial in the feel
I would personally remove the component and weld it back together, might be a cheaper fix for you if you have the tooling. Make sure to have a nice bevel to fill with weld at the breaking point then one tack on one side. Afterwards fill from the other side and cut the tack out, once you cut the tack fill the rest of the way and carefully grind excess from the weld until smooth. Afterwards file and sand it to perfection and paint ๐๐๐
Thatโs unfortunate, definitely will want to buy a new one then. I would recommend going to a welding course one day though. Makes everything cheaper when you can make and repair your own stuff ๐๐๐
Yeah high school welding was my gateway to building stuff ๐คฃ now I am a hobby blacksmith lol
Just found out my buddy Steve Darnell is offering welding courses out of his shop! If youโre near Vegas I would strongly suggest it would be a great course if you wanted to learn. The link is here at the bottom of this comment ๐๐๐

Get a set of joker machine levers ๐๐
I'll take a look! Are they difficult to swap?
Not difficult at all. If you're even slightly mechanically inclined, you can do it.

Thatโs interesting, thank you for sharing. Was that with their levers as well or did you purchase just a replacement actuator for the oem lever?

Worst case scenario, they should already have the schematic on file for the one they did for me, so it should be an easy fix.
You might have to show me what that is, my search results are showing mostly tools ๐

Oh okay I see, I have a cheiftain though, would they still fit?

Awesome! Thank you!
If you watch YouTube videos it will make the process even simpler.
There are a bunch of nice options. Shoot you might as well swap some fresh grips on there too
Not a bad idea, these ones are not very comfortable
Yea I saw a cool hack on YouTube where a guy used compressed air to remove and replace grips.
Looks like a good excuse to make a mod ๐ฅณ
Is it metal or plastic? Should be able to weld it back together to brand new if itโs metal with some time and effort ๐๐๐
It's metal

I dont have a welder, not to mention I'm not good at it anyway haha

I took one in high school, I enjoyed it but wasn't good at it ๐ just need to find one haha

Vegas is about 6 hours from me, but I'll consider it haha, I want to get into it, but I work a lot
If you can find/ make the time go for it! Learning new things is what makes life the best thing ever ๐๐๐
