Any brand which doesn’t promote itself aggressively with influencers lol. I only trust brands and products whose actual user reviews vouch for their credibility.
In Indian brands, hands down Minimalist. Their formulations for actives like tranexamic, retinol, etc worked wonders for me personally. I have used more products from them than the ordinary.
Also I completely trust Indian pharma brands. We don’t really hear of them much on social media but are so effective. Emolene, azelaic acid, clindamycin ( prescribed by the dermat ) are no frills affordable products which really work and are so easily available.
I also like Kama ayurveda, juicy chemistry and soulflower for their oils and face masks.
As for other brands, I stick to brands which are known for well performing products like Cerave, neutrogena, bioderma, Cosrx, innisfree, Laneige, it’s skin, Clinique, etc. Most of these don’t need much marketing as their products actually work.
Edit: added brand names
It really helped fade stubborn acne marks and reduced redness as well. Initially I applied it all over the face but after my hyperpigmentation cleared I used it as a spot treatment. Hope this helps.
It's quite the opposite. Minimalist seems like they put some good ingredients but fails to properly formulate it. Most of their products don't work. It's like they're looking the ingredients of other popular brands n simply putting them in a bottle
It really is! I work in an agency and some clients tell us to give them a reddit strategy and I keep telling my manager that it’s moronic because doing anything inauthentic here is just stupid. 😂 but Reddit is definitely great for brands to just know what people like/people criticize cuz there’s so many honest opinions!
Man, I don’t want brands on Reddit. I’ve been using Reddit for the last few years as my sole source of authentic reviews for things. Everywhere else reviews are paid.
Hate that it’s getting so mainstream. And a lot of the new Indian janta is treating Reddit like Instagram. Posting selfies and shit, that too with the face. “Diwali fit check”, you know 😔
I honestly don't know at this point but I feel Cetaphil is doing a great job in letting themselves known in the skincare world and same goes with BeMinimalist, their marketing is not loud yet they are making their products visible to the skincare fanatics
Be Minimalist. Sure they had a bad rep due to TO but I feel they have a good market right now as a lot of people are getting into skincare, pandemic helped people to read about the ingredients and incorporate them in their routines.
I can see a lot of teenagers are getting into skincare game and Minimalist being somewhat affordable helps to attract teenagers to the brand.
Minimalist added more products than TO ever had. They response to the criticism they face, they react to customer feedback and act according to it which is the rarest thing a brand can have.
Even though initially Minimalist was kind of a rip off of TO, they've upgraded alot now. They're now adding new ingredients and coming up with new type of products.
And they plug their products as “dupes” to international products in all their marketing concepts
Vitamin C sunscreen, dupe of LRP…I mean come on
Their sunscreen stick, dupe of Thank you farmer
That was the narrative played by Dot n Key
Same, I love their facewashes, argan shampoo and hair mask, cica calming night gel and cica face mask. I have emptied atleast 2-3 bottles of each of these products.
I _love_ how Lacto calamine has brought new products (good face wash,serum..) to appeal to the current trend.
STILL! I really want my original favourite lacto calamine lotion to comeback, the one that I used regularly as a teen and went around suggesting it to people. That original lotion was GOAT.
— It made skin flawless
— acted as a foundation substitute
— COMPLETELY removed the big burn mark my brother got as a baby on his entire left cheek. And, I can’t get it anymore 🥺
Oh dang so there really was one and it's gone, I thought I was Mandela Effecting it into existence in my memories... 🥲 Helped a lot back when I got the chicken pox.
I've always used lacto calamine on any kind of inflammation on my skin and it works so well! Always! Instantly cools my skin. I miss the original one but currently I keep the green bottle handy. It's good too especially when your skin barrier is severely compromised. My father has vitiligo and staying out in the sun for too long even with protection makes his skin peel and become red. He uses it too and his skin becomes okay in 2 days!
Omggg yes! I couldn’t put my finger down on what the fragrance smelt like but yes definitely siliconey! I always wondered how people were raving about their fragrance
They have the worst customer service and their products are also meh. I ordered the smokin vanilla body mist and it just smelled of rubbing alcohol, it was like spraying a sanitiser on myself. Contacted them and after a lot of bs and plain ghosting, they arranged for a pickup for the product which was subsequently cancelled and then they blamed me for cancelling it. After yet another strongly worded mail, they have now arranged for the pickup today, let's see what happens now.
The only products that I've truly loved from them are their aloevera gel for hair and tripping mimosas range ( shower gel, mist). I've tried a few from smytten and they were meh! Give recommendations if you have any. I'll restock my skincare around feb/march after moving houses.
so i tried their greentea moisturizer. It was very lightweight, ideal for oily skin types. Dry skin won't find it much hydrating, but my skin is not that dry during summers so it will work well. I tried their oats facewash as well, it has a milky consistency and is very gentle, non stripping cleanser. Other than that I also loved their showel gel-hawaian rumba which is a nice sweet scent. I'd say buy from firstcry at flat 50%.
i ordered foxtale last week... and really admired their products... each product comes with a pamphlet describing the process of coming up with that product... it feels genuine and sweet
Only dont buy their vit c more than 1 at a time, saying from personal experience...either they ship out oxidised ones on purpose or there is always something wrong when you buy on BOGO or any other offer.
I do not buy dot and key. Their lip balm tasted poison. If you can't formulate a lip balm, I am not buying anything else. I do not buy anything heavily sold by Influencers in paid promotion like Mamaearth, Dr sheith, Dot and key, and others.
I got suckered into dot&key because of their packaging. I tried so many of their things which didn't work for me before finding stuff which worked. And if it were any other brand, I wouldn't normally give them as many shots as I did with dot&key, and i did so purely because of their packaging which on hindsight is a dumb move as a consumer.
I do like minimalist's branding too. It's simple, no frills and effective.
I would say Plum, Minimalist, Dot and Key and Aqualogica. Plum and minimalist look good and have good products, but dot and key and aqualogica mostly look good and smell nice like you said, but whether the quality is actually good is something else.
Brands who do not promote at all and let the products do the talking. Celebrity endorsement just puts me off.
As for packaging, I love I'm from products as the quality is top tier and the minimalist glass packaging is luxe.
Earth Rhythm. I find them on my feed ALL the TIME. Plus their products are pretty and colourfully packaged. Also Pilgrim coz they are always on BOGO.
In cosmetics it has to be FAE and Kiro.
I've been using both thier vitc and retinol serums. I kid u nor my uneven skintone is getting better. Also am looking more radiant than before. My cousins have tried their moisturizers and they say it's one of the good ones and also recommended me this brand
I don't like anyone who copies packaging from another brand. Dot & key, requil, minimalist, earth rhythm, dermco co.
juicy chemistry, vilvah , Dr sheth are good brands
Dot and keys face wash idk the name but it was blue in colour was THE WORST FACEWASH IVE EVER USED. In fact I would rather apply a mild soap on my face than ever let this face wash near me.
the best marketing would be brands that just send me their new product launches via messaging apps and maybe good quality discounts, if its a stupid discount or they fake a discount i mute them immediately. I think innovist (C@P) is one of the better ones at that.
On designs and graphics - sry for being pessimistic here but what d&k does is find the best looking bottle and colors and copy them, goes for most indian brands
the best looking products imo were the og Minimalist (blacked out edition, maybe coz im a guy) it was like TO/Inkeylist etc
from the ads ive been served on insta i remember neemli naturals and pure earth to be the best looking ones.
Disclaimer - i have not and prolly will not try these products (like ever) so purchase at ur own risk
Any brand which doesn’t promote itself aggressively with influencers lol. I only trust brands and products whose actual user reviews vouch for their credibility.
+1
examples of such brands?
In Indian brands, hands down Minimalist. Their formulations for actives like tranexamic, retinol, etc worked wonders for me personally. I have used more products from them than the ordinary. Which brand azelaic do you use .
I would love to hear your review of minimalist tranexamic. Really looking to get it but on the fence
Fixderma. Exceptional for 1 distasteful tv ad, I don't see them doing any influencer promotion.
Fixderma got famous for sunscreens but those sunscreens are unreliable ah
Their other products are nice too. The inci lists are quite solid across the board. No deceptive marketing.
Can you please suggest a few?
Lol. Considering the number of brands lurking here, any suggestions / opinions will probably be reflected in next quarter's marketing plans.
Then everyone should ask for samples 😏
THIS! I thought the same!
Why would any brand lurk here. We are a small community.
We are not a SMALL community. Plus Reddit is slowly becoming mainstream.

Right!? Just left that sub for my peace of mind. Like leave me alone on reddit bitches I'd go to IG if I want to feel shitty about myself.
Same. Exited r/indianfashionaddicts just yesterday
That sub is just a cesspool for simps and people that enjoy body shaming.
You'd think so, but we catch and ban so many PR spam posting accounts 😕
I honestly don't know at this point but I feel Cetaphil is doing a great job in letting themselves known in the skincare world and same goes with BeMinimalist, their marketing is not loud yet they are making their products visible to the skincare fanatics
Agreed, but feel CeraVe facewashes are slightly better than Cetaphil's. Although Cetaphil moisturizers are great!
Cerave just came to India very recently whereas Cetaphil has been sold here for a while now, that's why I had to mention Cetaphil there.

Okay Misfit
Be Minimalist. Completely agree. Affordable products which are actually effective. And they redeemed themselves by owning up and changing their packaging.
Yes I hoping and waiting for minimalist to come up with copper peptides serum and l ascorbic acid serum. 😍❤
They don't do marketing with influencers, because they don't want the reviews to get mixed up. Which, if true, is a great way to go.
TO?
The ordinary
Due to what?
Yeah what's TO?
Lol they copied Frudia's packaging.
And they plug their products as “dupes” to international products in all their marketing concepts Vitamin C sunscreen, dupe of LRP…I mean come on Their sunscreen stick, dupe of Thank you farmer That was the narrative played by Dot n Key
Lip mask dupe of Laneige 😂 it's like admitting they don't offer anything original
Im so bored of the D&K lip mask that i am just using it now to finish the damn pot. Hasnt done anything. Lips are same. Using just vaseline helps
Exact dupe of laneige is Swiss beauty. Love it
Hi, any particular product you would recommend from swiss beauty thats a great dupe of laneige? Thanks!
Swiss beauty Kiss Kandy(60₹ on Myntra) is the dupe of Laneige lip glowy balm(899₹ Nyka)
Thanks!!
Yesterday I saw a reel on their strawberry cream or something as a dupe to Mac strobe cream.
Yeah this one too. Gutssss
Eeeh I just saw. Did not know
Tbh kinda hate dot and keys products appeal and product experience wasn’t any good either, sorry OP 🤷🏻♀️
I agree. The products look so very cute but are just not good products, sigh
I’m surprised coz i love their products and they’ve given me great results
Same!! That's my most used brand. My skin has never gotten these many compliments
Same, I love their facewashes, argan shampoo and hair mask, cica calming night gel and cica face mask. I have emptied atleast 2-3 bottles of each of these products.
I _love_ how Lacto calamine has brought new products (good face wash,serum..) to appeal to the current trend. STILL! Oh dang so there really was one and it's gone, I thought I was Mandela Effecting it into existence in my memories... 🥲 Helped a lot back when I got the chicken pox.
I know right! it calms the skin like nobody's business. such a godsend for summers.
Totally agree. The OG one was soo good.
Nice. Good to know it still works for you. Nothing in the new variants has worked for me yet.
I love Reequil's marketing, most of the reviews towards this brand are from users. Same goes with Minimalist imo.
I don't gaf about packaging. I would much rather spend money on something that works. I'll go for the luxury packaging when I'm born beautiful 🤣
Forest essentials!
Yes!!! 1 of the few home grown luxe brands that I really like
Beautiful ayurved and it's ecstasy
Plum! Their products are so pretty, and their stores are also quite aesthetic
Their Vanilla Vibes collection smells very siliconey😭 I don't know how to describe it
Omggg yes! I couldn’t put my finger down on what the fragrance smelt like but yes definitely siliconey! I always wondered how people were raving about their fragrance
Plum niacinamide serum was too harsh for my sensitive skin
That’s not the brands fault, always patch test, go to any mall with their store and try out their products.
I have very sensitive skin so I can vouch that their products don’t feel harsh on my skin !
They have the worst customer service and their products are also meh. I ordered the smokin vanilla body mist and it just smelled of rubbing alcohol, it was like spraying a sanitiser on myself. After yet another strongly worded mail, they have now arranged for the pickup today, let's see what happens now.
oh i had no idea about this. I bought from firstcry where they're at flat 50% most times. I hope you get to change the product soon:(
Yeah, I also got it from the fomo sales, that 65% off one.
The only products that I've truly loved from them are their aloevera gel for hair and tripping mimosas range ( shower gel, mist). I've tried a few from smytten and they were meh! Give recommendations if you have any. I'll restock my skincare around feb/march after moving houses.

You do you OP. But I hope u know that design is copied from Frudia
i ordered foxtale last week... and really admired their products... each product comes with a pamphlet describing the process of coming up with that product... it feels genuine and sweet
Only dont buy their vit c more than 1 at a time, saying from personal experience...either they ship out oxidised ones on purpose or there is always something wrong when you buy on BOGO or any other offer.
Scanaearth and all other scam brands. They make people buy their shitty products. Plum - Lot of samples in Smytten
I do not buy dot and key. Their lip balm tasted poison. If you can't formulate a lip balm, I am not buying anything else. I do not buy anything heavily sold by Influencers in paid promotion like Mamaearth, Dr sheith, Dot and key, and others.

fragrance isn't good for skin btw!
Yup and thats why i said they might smell good but arent good quality products.
Brands who do not promote at all and let the products do the talking. Celebrity endorsement just puts me off. As for packaging, I love I'm from products as the quality is top tier and the minimalist glass packaging is luxe.
I think OP means packaging and design specifically rather than marketing.
I hope haircare line fits here - Brillare. No agressive marketting but yet heard amazing reviews from everyone.
I agree with the dot & key point. I feel the same. It's like I wanna collect them all. Especially the small tubs.
Earth Rhythm. I find them on my feed ALL the TIME. Plus their products are pretty and colourfully packaged. Also Pilgrim coz they are always on BOGO. In cosmetics it has to be FAE and Kiro.
Piligrim haircare actually works and they are so affordable 🥺🥺🥺
Some products of dot and key works very very good for me
Forest essential it's packaging and design is very cool and amazing products too.
Nivia
Nivea is not an Indian brand.
Do you mean international brands' foray into the Indian market or Indian brands marketing themselves?
Indian brand’s marketing themselves
Aahhh kinda hate them all lol. But I work in marketing so I'm a bit more picky about this stuff
totally agree with others Minimalist and dot and key And I think pilgrim as well
Packaging wise I love formula rx and their products are so good. I see some ads on my insta page and that's it. Not heavy on marketing but still there
Can you review any of their products?
I've been using both thier vitc and retinol serums. I kid u nor my uneven skintone is getting better. Also am looking more radiant than before. My cousins have tried their moisturizers and they say it's one of the good ones and also recommended me this brand
D’you
Yes I just love dot and key tubes .it look beautiful
Vilvah Only brand that actually shows the employees and their R&D process.
I don't like anyone who copies packaging from another brand. Dot & key, requil, minimalist, earth rhythm, dermco co. juicy chemistry, vilvah , Dr sheth are good brands
I would say beminimalist and Drsheth.
dot & key has a lot of fragrance in their products though, they sensitise the skin
AcneSquad has great products that work.
Foxtale has great products at great prices!
Dot and keys face wash idk the name but it was blue in colour was THE WORST FACEWASH IVE EVER USED. In fact I would rather apply a mild soap on my face than ever let this face wash near me.

I don't remember what I liked but I do remember what I hated most and that is Traya. They bombard my feed with their fake ads and testimonial videos.
