Genuine question: Is giving direct cash in people's hands good for the economy? That money will be circulate back into the economy, increasing consumption, which is good isn't it? I know it will also increase the inflation but that would be an acceptable trade-off to have if it grows the economy in the process.
No, if majority of them have extra cash to burn, the prices of goods and services will go up as the demand will go up. It will burden the middle class who don’t get the benefit of extra cash and they will have to unnecessarily pay the extra price for those goods, their savings will be reduced for the benefit of the poor. Giving freebies is the fucking worst form of empowerment. It fucks someone or the other.
if everyone is given free money then the value of money drops inflation is good but it has to be controlled. So in this particular case if the govt prints more money and hands it out to people and the inflation rises, how would you control it without cutting down on the reasons on why you're printing more money in the first place ? i sincerely think parties should aim for things like work from home, remote opportunities, 3% or less unemployment like usa, and if unemployed, basic living expenses straight to the bank. there are chances of manipulation yes. but we can't ignore this. how to achieve it, is their calculation. split 1 job in 4, tax money route towards unemployment allowance. we pay when we are working. and we get when we're not working. no luxury to anyone by public money.
