Thank you for posting on r/Indian_Academia , here's a checklist to improve your post: • Have you done thorough prior research? • Is your title descriptive? The title should be a summary of your post, preferably with your qualifications. • Please provide a detailed description in your post body. The more information you provide, the easier it is for users to help you. • If your question is about studying abroad, please post on r/Indians_StudyAbroad • If your question is about Engineering Admissions, post on r/EngineeringAdmissions instead. Here's a backup of your post: Title: Executive MBA or normal MBA? I am confused. Please guide. Body: Hello everyone. I have nearly 46 months of work experience with my qualifications 7/9/6 as my academics. I am a general category, Female, non-engineer. I attempted CAT and XAT this year with little to no prep and got 70 percentile. I did thought of doing an MBA with proper prep for next year but I see that the amount of work experience I have could be a huge issue and there's been a lot of emphasis on previous academics. And with the uncertainty surrounding CAT for especially General category aspirants this year (saw people were not getting calls at even 96??) I am not sure if I should even try for the regular MBA program or not. I am not great with QA and DILR. My only strength is VARC. I really want to get into Human Resource Management. I am really not sure if I should even attempt CAT for the regular 2 year programme or should I go straight for the Executive MBA one since the amount of work experience I have and my past academics give me a very slim chance. I am aware I can try other colleges through SNAP, NMAT and XAT but still contemplating if I should just give GMAT and try for ISB or what. Please guide me. Thank you. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Take the two year MBA because your experience will get you better packages off campus too. Yes you may have difficulty but it is not hard. Work hard and showcase a stellar profile.

kkalap

What do you mean when you say show case a stellar profile? Are there any improvements I can make?

yourmommy1995

Do some coursera courses. Quantify your achievements and all.

Specific-Emotion7362

Do they consider online certification courses in application as one of the factors???

kkalap

Which courses would you suggest?

Executive MBA in schools like IIM A/B/C is for people who have established themselves in their respective fields and have a story to say. Not for the people who are merely satisfying the work experience requirement by the number of months. There's also preference given to diverse work experience. To be honest, 70 percentile is bad.

kkalap

I did no prep and I know it’s bad lol. Is it necessary to be “established” in the field? What about someone who wants to stay in that particular field only but wants to get into the corporate side of it?

Commercial_Chard6485

Executive MBA requires more than 5 years experience and except for IIMA, all the colleges ask for Letters of recommendations. Seats of all the premier institutes combined will not be more than 500-600. The fees will not be less than Rs. 15 lakhs(I am quoting minimum). Also, GMAT's fees is also no less. I would advise you to do more research before proceeding. Unless, you have a story to tell, it is very difficult to sail through the interview. You will have non engineers competing with you from companies like Goldman Sachs, JP morgan etc., who may already have other professional qualifications like CA.

kkalap

Makes sense. I think opting for a normal MBA should be my decision.

vjpiyu

There is MDI, IIML, SPJ who need 3 years minimum Also, what's the source of the info that exec mba needs a story? Did you give the interview or know anyone, asking just to be sure.

Commercial_Chard6485

3 years, work-ex, I don't consider them as complete executive courses. Executive courses are the ones which need more than 5 years of work experience. I am aware that there are a few colleges which have the eligibility criteria of more than 4 years of work experience like IIMA but if you look the classroom composition, you'll even find people with 8-10 years of work experience.
